It'd been a while since she'd henshined.

Okay, scratch that, it'd been years since she henshined. She hadn't really been sure she could still do it (did being a senshi come with an expiration date?), but as it happened, she could. She'd spent nearly half an hour just admiring her outfit - she'd totally forgotten how cool it was! - and then testing out her limits as a senshi. As she'd remembered, they were significantly different from that of a civilian (which was also totally cool and seriously, how had she lived without doing this for two years?) and so she'd jumped around a bit, feeling halfway between a kangaroo and Superwoman. It was an odd feeling.

But eventually she'd gotten bored of that. If she remembered correctly... yeah, she was supposed to protect the citizens of DC from the bad guys! She'd done patrols before her move, she recalled, so maybe she ought to do that again?

In any case, Vanadis decided, it totally couldn't hurt to go see how things were in night-time DC these days. Totally.

So she'd done that for a bit, roamed around and feeling a bit like a creepy stalker just looking for his next victim, but yeah, everything had been nice and quiet. She'd almost convinced herself that there really was no reason to come back here, Destiny City was fine, didn't need another senshi, when she came across It.

It being a fairly large (humongous, Vanadis thought) youma currently harrassing a civilian. Okay, so it was less 'harrassing' and more 'attacking', but whatever. It would obviously be The Senshi Thing To Do here to defend the victim and defeat the youma.

And she was a senshi. Right. So, uh, it'd been a while since she'd last done battle (and if she remembered, she hadn't really been all that good even then), but obviously this was a situation that needed her senshi-ly interference. So here it went.

"Halt!" Too many police movies, argh. "I mean uh, stop! I've come to stop your evil deeds and-- ah bugger it, I can't remember how t-this is supposed to go." The youma stopped its arm in mid-air, distracted from its swing at the civilian.

"Blghrrrr." That... was not the reply she'd expected. To be honest, she had sort of forgotten that these things could make noises. Right, back on track. The youma was lowering its arm, turning from the cowering civilian to look at Vanadis.

And this was an excellent opportunity. "You there, run! G-get out of here!" The civilian looked up briefly but seemed too terrified to really take her in, before getting on his feet and staggering out of there. Not exactly the sprint she'd imagined he'd go for in this situation, but each to their own.

Well. One thing down - she'd managed to save a civilian! More pressingly than that, though, she had a great big youma hulking towards her. Yikes. This was so not going to be pretty.

Eternal Sailor Chaonis was doing his usual patrol routine. Which was mostly just goofing off, and if he happened to see something bad going down, or an interesting prospect for a fight, he'd drop in and check it out. For now, though, he was leaping from roof top to roof top. It was a skill he had mastered, and he was expanding his athletic abilities.

The whole idea of parkour had appealed to him for a while now, and he'd been working on it as diligently as a guy with no work ethic could work on something.

He paused in his leaping when he felt a senshi aura rising up to him. It was base level, he could tell that much, and when he got closer he could see a girl senshi fighting a youma. Well. Talking to it. She did know they were made of stupid, right?

He bounced down from the roof, landing heavily, and loudly, on top of a dumpster nearby. The slamming sound of his feet hitting the metal cover almost shook the whole street. He grinned, arms folded over his chest as he regarded her.

"No time for a victory lap yet," he said, noting her (almost surprised?) look of triumph, "there's still a monster you gotta take care of." He did not indicate, by any means, that he would be helping.

There was a boy on the dumpster. Well, there was a senshi boy on the dumpster - she was pretty sure he was a senshi, anyhow. His uniform looked very different from hers, but then again, all of the senshi uniforms she'd seen so far had looked very unique, so that probably wasn't anything to go off of. He did seem to have what looked like... butt-wings, seriously? That was kind of weird, but he did make it seem not as feminine as she'd have thought it'd be. Kudos to him for being able to pull that off, she thought.

Less kudos to him for not helping with the youma that was now taking a swing at her, though. She clumsily dodged to the left, skittering out of the creature's reach. "Um, yeah, uh, about that..." Was it OK to just leave a youma and go on her merry way? She wasn't quite sure how else she was going to handle this. "Could you h-help? Please?" She added, voice a bit desperate as she dodged another swing, this one nearly grazing her head.

Chaonis had it up to his ears with hearing about his butt wings. Yes, he had them, and they meant he was a bad a**. They were awesome, and anyone who didn't think so could shove it. Unless they had butt wings too, and then he would just tease them for not being as cool as his.

He knew he had just distracted the senshi, and that was not really fair of him, but he was never good at playing fair. Even with his own team. He wanted to see what she could do, so why not deal with a bad situation made worse?

Chaonis prided himself on his ability to make things worse.

"What do you want me to do? You're the one that started the fight. You finish it. Don't you have any magic?" He watched her, not moving from his place atop the dumpster, and not even unfolding his arms from his chest. He had his eyes on the fight, though, watching with a keen intensity as she dodged and ducked the youma.

She'd been opening her mouth to reply when her moment of inattentiveness had cost her. The youma went in for a hit, ramming at her from the side and making her skid a good few feet back from the force of the hit. She gasped, pained, hand immediately going to her side. Was she okay? Did she have any broken ribs? Only you'd probably know if you'd broken a rib, wouldn't you? Then again, it could be shock.

It could definitely be shock, a little voice in the back of her head said as she stood there looking scared out of her mind as the youma came at her again. One giant arm to the stomach later, she actually considered what the other senshi had said. Magic. She had magic!

"Algiz Rune Warding!" As soon as the youma was out of her vicinity, Vanadis frantically started scribbling her rune on the ground. As soon as the glowing symbol was finished, a shiny blue dome erected around her, shielding her from the youma. But what now? It was only a momentary respite, and the other senshi really didn't seem to want to help her out. But she didn't know what to do! "P-please, what do I do?? I c-can't defeat it, I can't..." She dry-sobbed, almost in tears. "I don't know what to do!"

Chaonis was not impressed.

Though, as far as punching bags went, this senshi seemed to be a pretty good one. She took a hit well enough, and bounced like a champion. Not bounced back, of course. He just thought she hit the ground pretty well.

He watched as she scrambled up and shouted what had to be a magic attack from one of those Loser Club computer game things. He tilted his head and lifted his eyebrows, though, as her barrier appeared around her. That was pretty impressive, he would have to admit if he followed such rules.

it wasn't quite as much fun as she began to beg him for help. He frowned at her, grin finally fading even though it had seemed to be carved into his face and permanent.

"Alright, alright, settle down." He jumped down and landed near her, closer to the youma as it was rounding on them. It eyed its new prey keenly, but seemed aware that it was having better luck before, with Vanadis. Chaonis looked at her, outside her barrier.

"Just use your fists. Follow my lead and swing for everything you've got, alright? Stop crying and get hitting." He held up his fist, then charged toward the youma, expecting her to do the same.

She couldn't quite stop the few tears that leaked out, but if there was one thing Vanadis did well, it was take direction. Letting the dome fade away by itself, she followed his lead and leapt towards the youma with her fists out, ready to punch it.

It was admittedly a rather sad punch, and the next one wasn't much better - both were punctuated by sniffling. Even Vanadis knew she was a bit out of it, but to be fair, punching really wasn't her strong suit to begin with. "C-can I, um, kick it instead?" Her kicks weren't lethal by any means, but they were at least, on average, better than her punches. "I'm a bit better at those t-than I am at punching."

The youma had turned its attention to Chaonis, recognizing him as the greater threat - or at least the one whose hits hurt more. Once again, it prepared to ram into him like it had with Vanadis. "Watch out!" Said senshi was watching with worry, hoping dearly that he was faster at reacting than she was.

"Stop crying and hit it! I don't care if you use your fists or your feet or damn face!"

Chaonis was a drill sergeant in another life, or maybe he just really identified with those characters when he watched movies. Whatever the case, he was a tough kind of teacher that did less teaching and more bullying. He believed that the only way to do anything was the hard way, even though he was a slacker. It all made sense in his head: whatever was easiest for him, was difficult for everyone around him. And he didn't care too much about that.

But this was slightly different because, despite how he said, he did care about the others. The senshi he was trying to help and train. He didn't want them to get hurt or killed, but he didn't want to do everything for them, either. They had to learn how to take care of themselves.

He saw the youma trying to attack him, though, and grunted. He moved to swing his fist at it, to meet it at its charge. See who was packing more punch, as it were.

"Face your opponent head on, and don't let it scare you!" he said as he attacked.

Vanadis managed to stop her tears, but a bit of sniffling still crept in and her nose was feeling a bit runny by now. Maybe they wouldn't notice if she just wiped it...? But she didn't have any tissues and, uh, they were still in the middle of a battle, so that'd probably have to wait.

Instead she sniffled again, ungracefully, before charging at the youma's back with a high kick. It was what she was best at, out of all her fighting skills (non-existant as they were), and her kick connected solidly with the youma's back.

"Good!" Chaonis grunted, though when he said it, it sounded less like a compliment and more like an acknowledgement that she finally did what he wanted her to do. He was not glad she was doing well: he was just noting she was doing what she was supposed to do as a fighting.

Hit the bad guy.

The youma was taking it pretty hard now, with Chaonis not holding back and with Vanadis kicking it with skill enough to get a nod out of the Senshi of Danger, but it didn't seem to fussed. It was still trying to attack them, though it was clearly injured and ailing.

Chaonis pulled back and bounced out of the fight when he felt the youma was close enough to being dead that she couldn't possibly mess it up. Or at least close enough to -that- cut off point, which meant it might have a little strength left but she'd be fine.

If it attacked her, he'd just make sure it didn't rip her apart.

"Finish the thing off! It's almost dust anyway, give it all you got!" He knew every senshi had the ability to beat youma: he didn't think much of those monsters at all. But he did think more of his fellow senshi than he let on, and he was certain that she was no different. She just had to buck up, put on her big girl panties, and kick some face in.

"R-right!" It was, Vanadis realised, a lot easier to fight when there was someone telling you what to do. Even if he was being pretty vague, it was still better than if she'd been doing this on her own still.

She went in for another kick and then a quick punch afterwards, watching as the youma was started to slow and little flakes of its skin was starting to peel off (ew). Did this mean it was starting to go down? She seriously hoped so, because she wasn't sure how much longer her adrenaline boost would keep up for.

The youma made a lunge at her, but with the other senshi at her back Vanadis was experiencing a sudden confidence boost, and it didn't take much to dodge it, with it being as slow as it was by now.

A knee to the gut (or what she figured was the gut, anyway, with youma you never quite knew) and another high kick to its upper body later and the youma went down. Stunned, the red-head stepped back to stare at it as it died. And then looked to the senshi boy, still blinking in surprise.

Had she... had she actually managed to kill this thing? That was, that was -

"Wow! D-did you see that?! It died! I killed it - I mean, we killed it!" She jumped up and down, tottering unsteadily on her heels and doing a triumphant fist-pump into the air. "Alright! We did it!"

Chaonis grinned, watching her as she dodged the youma and he moved out of the way as well. He didn't move to counter the attack, instead letting her do it and laughed as it burst into dust. That was it, the battle was over.

He looked at her and saw the thrill of victory on her face. Even better than that, he knew she was feeling stronger.

"Of course you killed it. You're a goddamn senshi," he said, pointing his finger at her and then grinning. He folded his arms over his chest and stood proudly, bearing all of his confidence very obviously in his stance. In his head, if one knew they were strong, they were. Maybe it was a naive and simple idea, but it had certainly worked for him so far.

"You were only in trouble because you were being a chicken. Every senshi is a goddamn power house, and don't think otherwise." He could not tell her she'd done a good job, because he was terrible with compliments, but she had, and he nodded at her approvingly.

The Eternal took out his cellphone, to get her information scanned into it. He would keep an eye on her, and if she was ever in trouble, or messed up, or was looking like she was bored and could do with some hassling, Chaonis would meet up with her again

"The name's Chaonis," he said at length.

"R-right." She nodded, but still didn't entirely feel like the powerhouse he was describing. Though she certainly felt stronger now than she had three minutes ago, that was for sure!

Once he was done scanning her in, she took out her cellphone and did the same to him. That was allowed when he'd already gone and added her, right? If it wasn't, she guessed she could always just delete him or something.

"Oh, um, I'm Vanadis. Senshi of Wards." She gave a little wave with the cellphone in her hand before putting it away again. "So, er.. are you like, really powerful?"

"I like to think so," he said with a grin. "Eternal senshi of Danger. That's what the butt wings and caution tape mean, if you weren't sure." He laughed boastfully, clapping her hard on the shoulder.

"I'm what you might call a bit of a bounty hunter."

That was not true. Not yet, at least, but this was the start. If he saw someone who could help him spread his new methods around he was going to do it. He had been wondering what he could do to amused himself for a while, since the training newbie thing was good and fun, but he'd been doing it for a while. He needed something new, and this was it.

"If you're ever in trouble, you make sure you get a good look at whatever bad guy is giving it to you. If you need help, give me a call. I'm not going to let chaos get away with hurting any of us any more. They're going to see that no matter how they change their game, they're always going to lose."

Even though they had won that last fight, technically. Chaonis hadn't lost his fights, so that had to stand for something, right?

"Or if you wanna hang out, we can do that too. Though I'm more of an active guy and you look like you could do with more training." he poked her in the stomach.

Vanadis almost buckled under the weight of his hand on her shoulder. "Er, right." That wasn't exactly the signs she'd been expecting, but she made a mental note of them anyway. There was no reason to turn away good information after all, even if it didn't seem quite logical. Really, nothing about being a Sailor Scout seemed logical if you spent too long thinking about it. So she'd take what she could get.

"Really, you'd do that?" She turned puppy eyes on him, quite impressed. That meant... that meant he was still redeemable for friendship! Even if he was kind of odd and all, but having a friend in this whole senshi business would outweigh any oddness, for sure. Especially if he was willing to help her out when she got in over her head (which she had a sinking feeling was going to happen pretty often from now on). And he had helped her out with the youma, even if he'd been more interested in making her kill it rather than killing it herself. Alright, she could work with that! "Yeah! We're, um, going to win this war, for sure." And they were, surely, with awesome, powerful people like Chaonis around. And surely there were more powerful people on their side too that she just hadn't met yet!

She beamed happily, willing to ignore his poking her tummy. "Yes! I mean, er, yes, I probably c-could do with a bit more training." A lot more training, but she wasn't about to scare him away when he was making an offer like that. "And I want to train! I want to get better. No," she made a determined face, "I am going to get better." The question was just 'how', but she'd work that out as she went along.
