 Zinnia yawned widely into the chilly morning breeze, stomping out the embers that were all that remained of the night's campfire. She turned around then, grabbing the broken branches and pulled up shrubs that she had used as a scraggly tepee that night. She tried to toss them around so that they looked natural, but it was still pretty obvious that someone had been there to cause the destruction of nature. She scratched her tangled head of hair and gave up with a sigh. Probably Team Rocket would be able to track her by scent anyway, so there was no point in trying to cover her tracks.
The others were already awake. Zinnia couldn't remember a time seeing Shadow Mew asleep, and she was used to Dreydonna's odd hours, but she was starting to get worried about Zyk. The zubat was nocturnal naturally, but Zyk had switched to being diurnal since joining Zinnia's team. But now he seemed to be taking it upon himself to be aware at all hours of day and night to make sure that Zinnia wouldn't be ambushed. It was touching, really, but it was starting to affect his health. Zinnia had thought about traveling at night to make her own pokemon more comfortable by allowing them to sleep during the day, but it simply got too dark for her to travel safely out in the wilderness at such hours.
"Hey, Zyk," she said quietly when the zubat winged his way over and landed on her shoulder. She petted his head softly, then took a deep breath for another long day of walking. Her ankles hurt and her legs were sore, but she wouldn't complain; her pokemon never did, and so she had no right to. She did wish that she knew where she was, though, and how far she would have to keep going. And more importantly, where she would find today's breakfast.

Satori watched the trainer and her three pokemon from atop a tree nearby. The liepard gave a cold smile as she vanished, the tree giving a slight way under her movement.

Satori reappeared next to a rattata and a masked man wearing a trench coat. The rattata chattered a greeting, and the masked man looked up at the liepard. Satori tilted her head off in the direction of where she had come from, and Walpurgis stood up. He recalled both his pokemon to their pokeballs, and began walking stealthily to his target's location.

"Hmm, hmm," Zinnia hummed tunelessly to herself. She kicked a little bit more dirt on top of the dead campfire to make sure it was completely out before she started off, going slowly and stopping every now and then to check if a bush had berries on it that would be good to eat.
Shadow Mew stayed close to Zinnia, looking very wary. Her ears flicked at every sound and her eyes continued to scan the area fruitlessly. But she had the lingering feeling that they were being watched, and being a psychic pokemon, she knew better than to ignore such feelings.
Zyk, with his excellent ears, might have been able to hear Walpurgis coming if he had been listening. But he, like Zinnia, was at that moment more concerned about finding berries. He was drooping right off of his trainer's shoulder from drowsiness, so some energy in the form of food would have been nice. It seemed like only Dreydonna was completely unconcerned as she floated along; she was able to eat her fill of Zinnia's nightmares every night and delighted in disaster.

Walpurgis stepped out into the clearing, knives drawn. "Hey, there. Been a while." His mask hid any emotion he might have displayed. "I'd like to get this over with quickly, so I'll be frank - I'm here to bring back that Mew. The higher-ups said I could do whatever I like with you and your other pokemon, so I'd like to propose a deal - you take your gengar and your zubat, and leave the mew with me. Of course, it will be placed into a special pokeball so it won't teleport away. Once the mew is within the pokeball, I let you go on your way, and you never hear from me again if you don't betray my trust. Of course, the offer is merely an escape route for you. If you choose to ignore my offer, I will have to take the mew with force, and to be fully honest, I'd like to avoid an altercation. What do you say?"

Zinnia whirled around at the sound of a familiar voice, and though she had been truly startled, she quickly became angry and defiant. "Her name is Shadow Mew," Zinnia said, "And she doesn't belong to me. We're friends. She can go wherever she wants! And I won't let you take her!" She glared at Walpurgis, being either too brave or too stupid to even consider him as a threat. He obviously knew how to use those knives, but Zinnia simply couldn't believe that they would ever be used against her, or anyone else for that matter. They were just for show, right?
Zinnia's pokemon, however, quite obviously took his unspoken threat seriously. Shadow floated so that she directly blocked Walpurgis's path to the blue-haired girl, and Dreydonna floated right up to her side, cracking her horny knuckles and grinning menacingly.
Shadow said, speaking telepathically only in the mind of the zubat. She knew that he would be disappointed to be left out of yet another fight, but he was in no condition to do anything but rest.
"Go away now or we'll have to hurt your pokemon," Zinnia threatened.

Walpurgis sighed. "A pity. While I applaud you for not treating your pokemon like simple tools like everyone else, I must express disappointment in your ability to accurately assess the situation." To his side, Satori walked into view, Gangrel upon her head. "Gangrel, Satori - prepare for combat. Reason will not suffice here."
Gangrel hopped off the liepard's head as Satori grinned maliciously. The rattata looked calmly toward the gengar and mew, quietly assessing their weak points.

"The mew is the primary objective - take out the gengar first! Gangrel, disable the mew with ice beam, Satori use Yawn on the gengar."
The rattata's eyes turned a faint blue as he launched a blast of ice at the mew while Satori yawned, her tail swishing slightly.

"Ah--!" Zinnia exclaimed in surprise as Shadow quite suddenly froze in midair, and Dreydonna let out a huge yawn and drifted to the ground, fast asleep. Walpurgis was a much more efficient battler than Clyde had been. She bit her lip, a bit worried.
Zyk brandished his fangs, puffing up his fur and half-lifting his wings. If Walpurgis or either of his pokemon tried to attack Zinnia while Dreydonna and Shadow were out of commission...

"Alright, Gangrel - Shadow Ball, Satori - Night Slash!"
Gangrel's eyes shifted to purple as he opened his mouth, and an orb of shadow fired from within at the gengar. Meanwhile, Satori vanished and reappeared behind the sleeping ghost pokemon, bringing her paw down with bad intentions.

"Come on, guys!" Zinnia shouted, but the gengar continued to snooze on peacefully, despite the beating that had begun on her.
Shadow, who rarely betrayed emotion, was looking very frightening. Though she couldn't move her body, her expression had become murderously angry. A faint purple glow was beginning to form around her body as she concentrated with all her might on breaking out of her icy prison.

"Come on..." Zinnia repeated, this time much more quietly. She was starting to get nervous; what if she lost the battle?
Shadow was starting to be able to regain control of her body; just a few more seconds... How frustrating that the ghost was simply sleeping through all this.

As Satori pranced around the sleeping gengar, Gangrel turned to the defrosting mew with again blue eyes and sent another blast of ice.
