Riyo was...
Well...
Riyo wasn't sure what to do with herself.
She'd never had so much free time on her hands. Never. Ever. It was both wonderful and frightening at the same time. Even with homework and classes, the feline still didn't know what to do with herself half the time. Almost every morning she woke up, Riyo felt like there was something she was forgetting. Something important. Suddenly going to zero responsibility might take some getting used to. Oh, and the fact that she was poor. Yeah. That would take a LOT of getting used to.
There was also the matter of people walking into her dorm rooms after she'd specifically told them not to. Fresh air was looking pretty good right now. Fresh air and an area with some height to it.
Trees were good for that. Up on one of the tallest trees the cat demon perched, her back resting against the trunk. Legs folded, one hand contained a... ball in a cup? Yes. Ball in a cup. The goal was to get the ball in the cup, but if you didn't it was okay because of the string. It was so simple. So mindless, but it kept half of her occupied... While the other was busy reading a book. 39 Shades of Orange? Oh Jack no wonder she was hiding up in a tree.

Roch was heading through the woods with a pair of binoculars. He stopped at the base of a tall tree, looking up it for a long moment before he started climbing. There were things to see, man, things to see!! And he needed something to distract him--
But the sight of Riyo reading a book probably wasn't what he'd been planning on, he thought as he got high enough to see her. "Yo," he said. "We need to get a fire truck or somethin?"
Cuz she was a cat stuck up in a tree, obviously.

It had been so peaceful. So quiet when she read the line about Mr. Sherbert about to take off his button up shirt and show off his galloping abs. Yeaaaaaah. It was still embarrassing to be reading something like this but she was starting to enjoy it and then-
"HOLY ********... a** CRACKERS!" The feline screeched, her book flying up in the air along with the ball from the ball in a cup. Oh, luckily it wasn't going anywhere. Thank you again string.
"No, you a*****e! I'm a big ghoul, I can climb down by myself!" Her cheeks were a furious red. More from the fact that she'd been caught reading a dirty book than the fact that she was angry.
Fumbling with the book before it fell to the earth, Riyo clung to it and tucked it into her jacket, whistling as if she had just innocently been playing with her ball in a cup all this time. "What do you want?" She asked in between tunes.

"I'm spying on the horsemen," Roch said after looking at her strangely for a long moment. "They're up to something," he told her, holding up his binoculars and looking through the trees with them. "But I can't be gone long, I got a battle of the bands to plan and a ghoulfriend to deal with," he told her, still searching.
"What's the book about?" he asked without looking at her. "Seems a strange place to be reading."

... That was it? He was spying on the horsemen? Not on her.
Phew. Crisis averted. "Yeah, well when is everyone on this campus not up to something?" The ghoul scoffed and started to bounce the ball again, a bored expression washing over her face.
Huh. Roch had a ghoulfriend now. It didn't really surprise her, she supposed. "Yeah, good luck with that." Everyone seemed to be falling into that pattern. Finding significant others now. It was stupid. Like some kind of fashion trend. You just had to have someone hanging on your arm, right? Riyo might've been just a little bitter over the whole subject.
And then... He brought up the book.
Suddenly the ball landed in the cup.
"Oh, uh-" Time to do one of the things she did best. Lie. "It's about a guy. He uh. He likes the color orange. That's about it in a nutshell. Not a very interesting read. Gee Roch. You should really be looking into those crazy horseman and their devious schemes. Don't let my strange reading habits stop you."

"Ooooh?" he asked, his curiosity kicking into high gear as she blustered like that. "Is it a dirty magazine hidden in the book?" he asked. "Y'like lookin' at certain... things, or somethin?" he teased. "You and Nahm might have somethin' in common after all!" he hooted, the idea of her looking at girly magazines more amusing to him than most things.
"Oh, or maybe it's a catnip magazine," he decided. "New flavor of the month or something."

"A catnip magazine? Really?" She turned to give him a 'seriously?' look. "You don't TASTE books, Roch. Or maybe you do. Did your parents drop your pumpkin before you were born?" Yes, she was getting defensive now.

"Considering my mom?" he offered. "She probably watered the damn thing with vodka and used it for a pillow," he drawled, only half joking. "You don't know Nahm?" he added, curiously. "He runs around with a twin just like him, these tall guys who wear tons of robes and their faces are always in shadow--except those jackin' massive teeth when they smile," he described.
He forgot about the book for a moment. "Did you go to the island?" he asked. "The hunter island."

"No, I don't. And frankly, I don't care." Though it was apparent Roch was going to tell her anyways. Well thanks Roch, she really needed insight into someone's life that she would probably never meet. Then again, never say never. Saying never usually guaranteed something would definitely happen.
Trying to retain focus on her ball in a cup, the ghoul groaned when Roch kept pestering. Oh. Yeah. The island.
Her toy was carefully placed in her lap as she tilted her hood off. "Yeah. I was there." And she assumed with the way Roch was acting that he was too. "Why do you ask?"

"At the end, did you follow the horsemen or did y'come back here?" he asked curiously. He was still searching. Then again there was a good chance that the horsemen were going through portals he couldn't see. Well... that screwed over this plan, he thought darkly, dropping the binoculars to rest against his chest and finally looking at the cat demon.

W-why did it matter? Riyo shot him a questioning glance as he seemed dead set on quizzing her over everything. "I... Came back." She admitted reluctantly, hands grabbing the fabric of her jacket. "I could not find it in my heart to trust someone who had lead me to slaughter, nor did I have the desire to be a pawn in someone else's revenge game. I don't want to be the game piece anymore." Not that she had to explain herself. The way the boil was looking around, she assumed he had done the same thing. "If I'm going to seek out revenge and become more powerful, it will be for my own reasons."

"Yeah that's pretty much why I didn't go," Roch agreed. "That and Amphi was about to fall over. The hunters had her for a week," he said quietly. "Did you ever go see your mom?" he asked her abruptly, changing the subject again.
He looked tired, if you looked closer at him. There were shadows under his eyes and his skin was paler than usual. In fact, he even yawned and tried laying down on the tree limb he was sitting on. It looked like he was going to take a nap. Brilliant.

Amphi? Who the hell was Amphi? Well, it didn't really matter. If she asked again she'd just get yet another description of something she didn't care about. "I... Did."
Riyo was surprised he had remembered. "I ended it. I'm never going back there again. And I did it with a lie that eventually became the truth. I suppose you could consider that cheating." The feline offered, considering that's what the boil had suggested when she saw him last. "Then my cab left me and I had to walk half of the way back here. Then I stole a motorcycle and wrecked it." Figured she'd throw that in there too.
Raising an eyebrow at his yawning, the ghoul wondered if she was boring him. She'd thought stealing a vehicle had been pretty badass, honestly. "But uh. As they always do, new problems arise. To keep me on my toes, I suppose."

"You should learn to drive one, that would probably be useful if you're gonna do stuff like that," Roch said. "I can teach y'if you want, but not till after I get this jackin' battle of the bands set up."
His reply to stealing a motorcycle was... remarkably logical in its own sort of way. Then again, who knew what all the kid had learned in the past. "But I'm glad you're back," he told her. "It woulda sucked bein' stuck there. Course a lot of nasty crap coulda happened while hitchhiking too--so why didn't you call someone?" he asked her curiously.

"Well I'd managed to ride it back..." After she wrecked it. The ghoul was lucky it hadn't exploded. Ugh.
It was sorta weird hearing someone say they were glad she was back. In all honesty, Roch was probably the only one who noticed. At least, he was the only one who acknowledged it.
"Oh, uh..." Yeah... About the whole calling thing. "Well... Funny thing. I had uh. Broken my phone against a boil's skull the day before." The ghoul just... Tossed that out there. It was a good reason! Totally.
