He walked and he watched. Most days he saw nothing at all. Sometimes he was able to observe other creatures at work, at play and everything in between. He never ceased to watch them while he could, always seeking to understand why they did the strange things they did.

Even so, it never made sense to the black lion with the green mane. So he continued watching in hopes that it would.

Dath scowled as he stalked the land. His heavy black paws were not kind to the earth, and he smashed anything that came in contact with him. The weight of his large frame certainly made an impression on the earth. Vast black wings were loosely folded across his back, and the sun's ray's loved to dance across the gold and blood red rubies that hung from his ear and neck.

Here he was, and yet he was bored. It certainly put the god of chaos in a foul mood.

At least he hadn't run into his sister. Nothing pissed him off further than running into her, or one of her wretched children. She was one of the few things that always seemed to have power over him, and he hated it.

"Blastest mortal realm," he grumbled under his breath. Too many little playthings here, but nothing interested him. Not yet.

There was a noise. It had the rhythm of footsteps, but very heavy ones. Meramo looked around, searching for the origin of the sound. It was, oddly enough, not a very difficult search. Most creatures the lion encountered seemed to be trying to hide, though most of the time he could not understand their reasons why.

This one was different. And in more ways than the fact that it was not trying to conceal itself. Intensely red, well, that was nothing new, he'd seen creatures of all types come in all colors. But the big black feathery things on the other's back, those were different. Without them, he would have said the other was a lion, male, like himself. Beyond that...he could not say. The feathers were something he'd only seen on avians until now.

Daths' gold eyes shot around, noticing that there was a freakin' weird looking lion that noticed him. Granted, Dath thought that anything with a full mane was weird, ugly, not worth his time....he liked his females. It didn't mean that he couldn't be worth a little amusement, however.

The god suddenly stopped, though his wings were still folded on his back. It was a bit of a pain to stretch them out when he wasn't getting ready to fly, but they were really good at intimidating others when he caught them by surprise. This green maned lion didn't seem that surprised, though.

"Hmph," Dath grunted, realizing that he was confused. Were the gods really not doing their work, and showing that they were superior to the mortals? Were they not instilling fear and respect? What a disgrace. Dath clearly needed to get back to work and fuel the respect and worship needed to feed him power.

"Mortal," he grumbled.

The red lion had stopped and was looking at him. Perhaps this other would answer some of his questions. Namely, why did he have feathers when he was not a bird? This was the most pressing and perplexing of the questions churning through Meramo's mind.

Then the other spoke. A single word. Mortal. It was not something that he had encountered in most conversations overheard. It meant, from what the black lion could tell, one who died. Died, in the future tense, not the past. Why such a word should be necessary, he could not say.

But, as one who would one day die, the word did apply to Meramo himself. At least, that was his understanding.

So..."Yes," he replied.

Dath's eyes narrowed. He hadn't quite been expecting to hear something like that out of him, but it would do.

For a long while, he just sat there and stared back. It was interesting, as he was used to either being bombarded with explitives, demanding questions, or the other would just run away from him. He liked a good chase, but it seemed this male wasn't going to run.

"Well? The mortal realm sure has forgotten its duty," he said dramatically, shaking his head. "Such a pity."

There was a change in the other's expression. Meramo couldn't fathom what it was. This lion was not as expressive as others he had encountered in the past...not that it would have truly helped the black lion to understand what was going through the other's head.

Then the red lion spoke again. About a mortal realm forgetting its duty. And this lapse being a pity. Realm was...a place. So, a place of mortals. The world, as far as Meramo knew. But what duty a world could have, the lion was clueless when it came to imagining such a thing.

"I was unaware the world had such a thing as a duty," he said at last.

Ugh. It almost didn't seem worth it. Clearly this lion was too dense to use a little imagination to help himself. It was so tempting to just kill him to vent out his own frustrations. The only problem with that was Sei would certainly know. Somehow. Call him paranoid, but he always felt like she just knew when he did something bad, and Dath would trip across her or one of her servants.

No, but it still didn't seem worth trying to educate him. "The world does not teach its inhabitants very well, then."

He stretched out one of his wings lazily, slowly blinking as he decided what the hell to do. Males were never worth the effort. At least if he seemed like a thrill, females may want to flirt with him. Bah.

He considered the words carefully. That the world did not teach those who lived in it very well. It seemed an apt statement, from what he had observed. Certainly he had not been taught that much by the world, and no one he had encountered was that interested in answering his questions in such a way that he understood.

"No, it does not," Meramo agreed. Green eyes widened in surprise as roughly half the feathers resolved themselves into a very large black wing. Lions did not normally have wings - that the black lion knew for a fact. Otherwise he himself would have them as well. That meant the red lion was not an ordinary lion. But what he was...that Meramo could not accurately know.

"Wings," he said, stating the obvious. "Lions do not normally possess such additional limbs."

Well, at least he had the sense to agree.

"No." Dath said with a gruff sound. He stretched out the other one too, making himself look much larger than he already did. "I am a god, not a mere lion." Taking on the lion shape was very easy, when most of the power that fueled him came from lions. He was a bit proud of it, as it was must more imposing than a slim cheetah.

He let his wings sit out for just a moment longer, and then folded them back up nicely along his back, letting them soak up the sun's heat. "I doubt your run into 'lions' wearing as much jewelry as I, either." His tail lashed against the ground, still dumbfounded and frustrated that this mortal didn't just know. It bothered him, a lot.

A god? Meramo had heard of such beings before, but they were mentioned in a manner that was...reverent. And seemed to imply that such powerful creatures did not walk the same earth as the rest. The "mortals," as the god had termed him. Why then did this red god walk here? The little Meramo had heard implied that they lived somewhere beyond the world.

Well, at least the revelation of the other's godhood did answer some of the black lion's earlier questions. In their place though, had risen twice as many more. Still, he could not argue with the other's statement about jewelry. It was a very useful term, seeming to relate to any and all adornment beyond fur on a lion.

"I have not," he replied.

The mortal lions near....neutral attitdue bothered Dath. Which was something easily done, as the god thrived on attention, devotion, and creating chaos. This was disappointing, but perhaps he would bring on a little more devotion towards all deities, and not just him. Having other semi-powerful gods always made things more interesting when he played with them.

"Now you know. You should be respectful if you ever cross paths with one again," he said, standing up on his feet after sitting for a bit. He was obviously tired of the conversation, though mildly pleased with himself for 'educating' this green-maned black lion.

Meramo blinked. He wasn't certain what he knew now that he hadn't before, save that gods existed in flesh and fur and feathers and walked the land. Which was something pertinent, though perhaps not relevant to daily life.

The red lion advised him to be respectful to any other gods he should meet. That was an odd term, respect. He had heard it used many times, in many different forms. It was one of those words whose meanings the black lion simply could not pin down, as the meaning seemed to vary from creature to creature and day to day. Such a strange thing to ask.

He did not know how to respond to this pair of statements. So, the lion simply said nothing, watching the god's movements.

Narrowing his eyes again, he wondered if he should say anything more. It seemed like this lion was dense (completely wrong) and clearly didn't understand anything that he was saying (partly true). Why should he bother wasting his breath on him? He was in a foul mood, and now he was interested in picking off some lonely poor mortal for fun, or find a female to flirt with and later abandon.

With a low growl, he turned to walk off, still debating if he should fly or not. It was always more fun to just go invisible and then leave, startling whoever he was talking to. He doubted that would happen this time, so instead he broke off for a run, stretching out his wings before launching himself into the air.

He was only too happy to leave, even if he left the strange black lion untouched.

Meramo watched the god take off into the bright blue sky. The wings were larger than he'd suspected, and quite powerful to lift a lion's body. This was certainly one of the strangest creatures he'd met in his life, and he wasn't entirely certain what to make of the entire encounter.

He would have to think it over in detail. For a long period of time.
