Daphne was having one of the most bizarre weeks she'd had since reforming her life and becoming Daphne Proudmoore, which was a feat in and of itself. Kess had been spending almost every spare moment she could find texting the bluenette, calling her, spending time at the house, sleeping over almost every night. The beach! Oh boy the beach had been...well it had been fabulous but there had been something there. Now they were going out to what was supposedly a very nice dinner at once of those places she'd only previously been to with Elzo, which meant it was probably ridiculously expensive per plate. So she'd been urged, well told, to dress pretty and fancy. What had the girl standing in front of her mirror, eying her reflecting, and chewing nervously on one of her growing blue curls was that there were several kinds of fancy. There was the kind of fancy that said this was a Major Occasion and then there was the kind of fancy that said they were Just Friends Out Having Fun, but the dress she'd pulled out was on the border of the two. It basically screamed Serious Relationship. Of course it had also been six months to the day since they'd started hooking up which might not have meant much to Kess (conjecture and supposition on Daphne's part) but it meant quite a bit to her. Oh sure she played it cool, pretended it was nothing to just throw down because the freckles were hypnotizing, but for her to be hooking up at all was pretty serious for her. Eventually, disgusted with herself and the fact that she was going to have to get a ******** microscope soon to dig any deeper into the whole issue, she stomped downstairs with shoes in hand to wait.

Kess didn't usually notice, subconsciously or otherwise, 'anniversaries' of her hook-ups, and tonight was no exception. Or, that's what she confirmed with herself in mirror as she knotted her tie. If anything, it was just because of what had happened in the past week. After all, nothing lasted forever, right? Kess lived by that, and it was getting close to the time to prove her dedication to the motto.
But it was Saturday night, and she was going the ******** out, alright? And if Daphne just so happened to be coming with her, that was great, too. That didn't make it a big deal for either of them. The blonde leaned toward the mirror, running a hand through her hair, and shifted back. The vest was buttoned and she snagged her jacket off the back of a chair.
Frowning, Kess glanced at her watch. She was running late. Why did she care? She didn't. It was only a few minutes, anyway.
Daphne's bell rang twenty-seven minutes later, and the blonde rocked back on her heels, hands shoved deep into the pockets of her leather jacket as she contemplated the cloudy night sky.

Usually she waited out on the front porch for Kess if they were going to go out because, lets face it, she was the kinda girl who didn't go out alone. So if she wanted to go out she had to rely on Jada, who was firmly out of town yet again or the freckled jack-of-all-trades. This made her eager to get out when she was able to wrangle an outing together though oddly enough, that had been becoming more and more easy over the past week or two. So odd but not at all in a bad way.
Today though, Daphne stood in her Serious Relationship dress ready to throw two pairs of shoes through the front window. There were the heels which were definitely Sexy Sexy Ready To Go and then there were the flats that said Hey, I'm Adorable and Charming but at the same time Totally Immature. Which meant she wasn't taking things as seriously as the dress would have suggested whereas the heels sorta went with the whole Welcome to a New Level of Awkward.
Flats it was.
The doorbell surprised her a bit. Kess had a key didn't she? Or at least the bluenette had assumed that she'd taken the one from behind the back door where the spare was, there was still one out front because well...you didn't tell everyone where your single spare was. That was stupid. Snagging the thin white cardigan that was more for the bike and so she didn't get those awkward scar questions, she pulled the unlocked front door wide open without even bothering to check the overall look. Progress!
Daphne stopped, blinked a bit, then grinned while resisting an urge to just pull her into the house by her tie. Dinner could always come later. But no she wanted to go out so they were going to go out. Daph would be damned if she spent an hour agonizing over outfit symbolism for nothing. "Well well. Good evening."

"Good Eeeevening," Kess responded in an overly accented, English tone, clearly mocking Daphne's awkward greeting. Amusingly enough, seeing the girl in person removed any sort of lingering doubts, and Kess appeared to relax completely after flicking her dark eyes over the bluenette.
"You're beautiful." A leather clad forearm hit the doorframe above their heads as Kess leaned her weight against it, giving Daphne one of those intense looks that had made her squirm early on in their... Non-relationship. "Should've worn heels." The stare was broken by a wide grin and she straightened up to offer the shorter girl a gloved hand.
"Ready to get out of here, Daph?" Kess saw dancing in their future, but first, food, since the bluenette got white girl wasted awful quick without something in her belly.

Daph was never going to get the hang of stifling a blush. She could keep back homicidal rage (sort of), keep herself from crying (most times), and was at least good at not laughing at inappropriate times but she couldn't do a damn thing about blushing. "Thank you." Kess' compliment had her pinking up, enough to be seen through the color she'd gotten at the beach earlier in the week, gaze still making her squirm. There was a long moment of contemplation, biting the inside of her lower lip as if the teen were contemplating dragging the blonde inside and to hell with everything else again, but count on Kess to distract her!
She was saved by the comment about her shoes, turning the blush into spluttering quickly. "Really? Really?! Ughhh just a minute." Leaving the door swung wide open she all but stomped back into the den to the right of the foyer, dropping silver heels on the porch and stepping into them. The flats were tossed right inside the door, everything was locked up, decidedly mismatched bag slung over her shoulder. "I always meant to get one of those cutesy little evening bag things some girls have but it's always just too damn small. Plus they're just a little...cheesy." Without waiting for the arm that she was sure would have been offered anyway, the bluenette latched on and batted her eyelashes at Kess.
"Well Kess Charming, ready to sweep me off into the sunset?" Should she mention that they'd been hooked up for six months to the day? That seemed...girlfrend-y. She was not a girlfriend. They were friends with a little more, the end.
Uh-huh.

It seemed like there was going to be something, for a moment, with the way the bluenette stood there, looking up and her, and...
... Apparently not.
Kess stood there like a doofus with her hand extended for a second or two as Daphne spun and disappeared inside to, presumably, acquire heels. Had there been some drawn-out debate on the subject? Dropping her arm, she raised her brows, amused, and waited for the girl to return.
Yes, the heels were a good choice. Daphne was babbling about a bag [as if Kess cared at all], so the blonde occupied herself by tilting her head down to the attached bluenette and pressing her face into Daphne's hair. "Yeah." She always smelled good.
Minutes later, and they were off. The blonde drove fast, and she was ready to hear some bitching about ******** up Daphne's hair when they rolled to a stop. Provided that the girl wasn't too distracted by the restaurant and the fact that Kess had blown a couple of lights to make their reservation.
"Last stop, everybody off."

Maybe it was a good thing that she'd worn the heels. For various reasons that had everything to do with the fact that Daphne could kick a** and take names in heels, she was more prone to stupidly trip over her own feet while wearing flats. Instead when Kess pressed her face into the curls she was desperately trying to grow out, the bluenette only stopped walking long enough to enjoy the affection. She'd been spending so much time doing exactly what ruined all Serious Relationships that she was forgetting to enjoy what was so good about this Not At All Serious Relationship: a healthy affection that made them great friends.
Squeezing the leather-covered arm she beamed at Kess, squealing at the speed when they finally got going. Kess must've lost a few key bits of information to think that Daph would have ever bitched about mussed up hair versus speed that had her giggling like an idiot most of the way across town. Speed was fantastic and for reasons she couldn't quite understand, it removed a lot of her weird tension. It was like outrunning everything that had caused the feeling in the first place, it was all behind her now, and it was going to be a badass anniversary whether Kess knew about it or not!
Hopping off and fluffing out the back of her skirt, a brush was hauled out of the all-important bag to drag through her hair without comment. "Damn, and here I was hoping we'd just start flying soon. You were going fast enough to give me hope Kess, you cruel thing you." Eyes skimmed the fancy script on the outside of the building before she nearly choked on her tongue. "We're having dinner here?!" It was one of the nicest places in town that you usually had to do unspeakable things for to get a reservation anything less than three months in advance.
Eyes narrowed on the blonde in speculation before the thought was tossed off. Whatever! Dinner was gonna be tasty.

"Next time I'll be sure to stop right quick, so you can take a short soar over the handlebars." The blonde's wicked grin as she pulled off her helmet did nothing to convince Daphne that she was 'joking'. Removing her gloves, she tucked them into a jacket pocket, dark gaze trailing from Daphne to the restaurant, and back.
"Yeah?" Kess' voice held a tinge of concern. She'd never been, since having the forethought to call for a reservation was never her stomach's forte. "S'that a problem? The yelp reviews were good..." That, and the promise of a great food by the head chef, who was a frequent requester of Kess' "courier" services.
It was a testament to Kess' reputation as a bro that she was 0% kidding when she didn't get off the bike, motor still running, seriousness written all across her freckled face. "Want to go somewhere else? Pizza?"
What a bummer. The blonde as usually so on-point when it came to surprises!

Yelp? She'd heard about the place on...oh God. Daphne couldn't help herself! There were some times when control was necessary, when it was important, and then there were times when it didn't matter how much control you had. The laughter was gonna come out and it burst from her like an explosion, sides heaving with the effort to keep her ribs from flying straight out of her chest. "Kess you're the best company in the world, good lord." Reaching up fingers wiped the tears at the corners of her eyes and gestured with one beckoning finger. "Come on, this place is one of the best that you'll get for miles around." Certainly she wasn't about to leave even if Kess roared off right now!
It had been awhile since Daphne had had a decent meal that she herself hadn't had to cook. There wasn't really anything wrong with takeout except that it left her stomach a bit uneasy at times and she didn't always have the time or the company to cook the delicious meals that her mother had left recipes for. Cooking for one was really a hindrance for good culinary exploration!
Walking in to the plush, wealthy atmosphere of the restaurant made her feel momentarily like she didn't belong, that she was too young and too poor and just too...brown-blooded? Was that the word? Of course in a previous life she'd been the wife of a prince, a knight in both lives, and she was damn important in her own mind. Plus her date was probably the most handsome guy in the entire place, and she wasn't even an actual guy!

"Well, s**t." Kess' grin was somewhat sheepish as she rubbed the back of her head with a freckled hand, and she laughed off the heat that had turned her cheeks a healthy pink. Turning off the motor, she swung off the bike and offered her arm to Daphne.
"Let's get some food in our faces, then." It took only a minute to get their seats, after she confirmed "Reever, for 2," with the maître d, and soon the blonde was glancing over a drink menu and listening to the specials.
Oy vey. This was either going to go really well, or really badly. Fortunately enough, Daphne seemed too enamored with the restaurant to be awkward, and Kess was laughing within minutes.
At least their drinks came quickly.
Kess made a mental note to give them a five for that, at least, on Yelp.

Reever? Who was Reever? Was that Kess' friend who'd told her about the place or wait...weren't reservations made traditionally in a last name? What was Kess' last name? Did she know? Hell, Daphne had no idea that she didn't know that Freckles was actually Kesslan Rae Reever she was just...well...Kess. The idea that she didn't know something so fundamental about the person she'd basically been shacked up with for a few weeks was a bit troublesome to Daphne, but she wasn't about to let it ruin her night. Let it ruin some other night when she had nothing to do but dwell on things that didn't really matter; this was date night.
The fake ID identifying her as Daphne Xanis had her birth year as 1988, four years above the actual date, and making her almost twenty-four years old. That meant that when drinks were ordered there was an interestingly tropical, almost distressingly pink concoction placed in front of her face while she tried not to order one of everything. "You're blowing my mind, Kess. I don't even know where to start. Maybe I should just let you pick or something." There were probably only two places where Daph could go wrong on the entire thing and that was because she was pretty sure they were sweetbreads.
Tapping fingers on the menu she picked up her drink, sipped, and laughed almost immediately. "Damn. Those things don't look like a punch in the face! They should come with a warning or something."
