The crack of lightning across the ghastly sky causes your eyes to snap open. While confusion creeps across your consciousness like a spider scuttling towards its prey, thunder roars so loud one has a worry about losing their hearing. As you remove the mind dulling sleepiness of a faraway dream, you notice you’re lying in an area of dead grass. No trees, no shrubbery, no water….nothing…..just dead, brown, grass. Another split of lightning illuminates the one and only object within your visual: the silhouette of a building in the distance. The random lightning strikes light up the building as you stare at it; your only feelings are a sense of foreboding and growing dread. All around you more bodies appear to awake from their slumber.
Mere moments after everyone’s awakening, the people around you gather out of growing fear of sensory deprivation. You soon realize the only sounds around you are the cracks of lightning and booming of thunder. There isn’t even the sound of your own breathing, no one can scream, or even whisper. It soon became apparent to everyone that there is nothing to but make your way towards the ominous building in the distance. However, the closer you get the more terrifying the large, dead terrain becomes. With little light to fight back emptiness, shadows appear to jump out and move on their own as if needing to feed on the newcomers. What was even more frightening was there was nothing about in the terrain to create the shadows. Walking ever closer to the building you notice a haphazard graveyard off to the side that sends shivers down your spine. Through all your walking, you notice the grass never crunches beneath your feet, the wind never howls in your ears, you never hear the whimpers of your companions; only the constant crack of the lightning and boom of the thunder as you attempt to get closer to the building. Something strikes you odd as you really focus on the building before you; no matter how close you get, it never gains any more detail than it had before.
When your group finally reaches the doorstep, you get your first real look at the building before you. The walls are flat, dull brick with big cracks here and there, making you wonder if the building is structurally sound. Mist seems to pour out around the base of the building creeping and slithering around the ground. Sound suddenly reaches your ears, but as you look for the source you find nothing but silence once again. If phantom voices and ghostly mists aren't enough to tingle every hair on your body the atmosphere itself washes a sense of fear and foreboding over you. Around you are hospital beds, gurneys, and medical equipment strewn about the area, from a time that no longer exists, one can’t help but to imagine what lurks behind the closed doors before you.
You look up to see a sign, but you can’t quite make out what it says behind all the gouges and red paint…..at least you hope it is paint. Someone reaches out to knock on the door when suddenly it swings open and you are engulfed by a woooosh of cold, uninviting air.
A pair of creepy, smiling twins greet you and pull you into the building,
“Welcome to Sunny Day Asylum!!!”

ThemisThemis is the twin to Tennin. She is one of the guides to Sunny Day Asylum. While she is ever so proficient at her job, Themis can be terribly creepy when her and Tennin lock in on their "twin-ness". Other than that she is rather playful with a terribly dry sense of humor.Roleplayer BiographyHikari Aijuntani is 26 years old and has been on Gaia since 2004. Hik has been helping with the ball since Ball #8. Hik is a freelance graphic designer and a professional editor. She is one of the biggest Harry Potter nerd out there, actually knowing the cost of dragon liver and other obscure details. Oddly, Hik has an unrivaled hatred for bananas, we think from some trauma in her childhood...but we don't talk about it. TenninTennin the twin to Themis. He is one of the guides to Sunny Day Asylum. Both he and his twin are good at their jobs, but Tennin can be terribly creepy when he and Themis lock in on their "twin-ness". Tenin has a bad habit of creeping people out with his ability to be over nice and playful.Roleplayer BiographyAnonypanda plays this character and is 22. He's been on Gaia for at least 4.5 years...maybe, apparently he can't remember. Panda has been participating in the User Ball since the 6th year working his way all the way up to Room Host this year in the 10th Annual. Panda is celebrating buying a new car! His Panda powers give him a photographic memory; although he is partially blind in one eye. The AdministratorThe Administrator keeps the Asylum running smoothly for all the guests. While she seems nice enough for now, there seems to be something slightly off about her and no one seems to know what it is.Roleplayer BiographySorercessJacklyn is 22 as well, and and has been on Gaia for 4 years. She's been helping with the User Ball since the 8th year, before coming to the Nightmare room for Ball #10. While Jackie runs the liqueur dept at her job, she has just gained brand new mommy powers! She has a brand new beautious daughter who is now 6 mos old. Strangely enough, Jackie loves ketchup.....but hates tomatoes. Doctor SlySly is one of the doctors who previously worked in the Asylum before it was shut down. He always has had the report of being charming and almost bone-chillingly smooth with people; but his patients always seemed to get worse....or die. Now, the doctor spends his time trying to round up stray paitients....or so he says.Roleplayer BiographyRonyo is the oldest person in our room at 27, and has been on Gaia for 4.5 years too (this seems to be a pattern). His first year even participating in the User Ball was year 9! And he's already helping in a room in year 10. Ronyo is a huge Star Wars nerd. The thing he's even more nerdier about is werewolves. You can only imagine what happened when he found out that Star Wars had werewolves. Ronyo is so weird in his own way, we couldn't find one singular weird fact to share with you. DollyDolly is a patient who never left Sunny Day once it closed. Usually very friendly unless insulted or provoked; her behavior ranges from child-like playfulness to adult seductiveness. Once of her afflictions is speaking of herself in third person. Dolly has been known to wield hidden knives; usually butcher's knives or kitchen knives. Don't pull patients hair, this causes immediate provocation if subject is intercepted.Roleplayer BiographyRogue_Logan, our resident Dolly, is 21 years old. She has also been on Gaia the longest in our group at 9 years; so since the very beginning. Rogue is a hardcore cosplayer. And in an odd happenstance, she actually works at an haunted asylum in real life! Despite her creepy job, she actually has her very own MLP:FiM cutie mark! Ansen "Mad Reaper" JenkelsonReaper is another patient who never left Sunny Day. He is a patient with a "major psychosis" that causes him to snap and kill with weapons created with bones or teeth. Weapons are thought to be made for other patients who disappeared during the Asylum being open. Reaper is considered unstable but it is unknown what causes or triggers outbreaks.Roleplayer BiographyAt just barely 18 years old, Death The Kid X Liz, has been on Gaia for 5 years. Death's a real flaming ginger! Poor guy has a bad habit of falling for the wrong women, but we know he'll find the right one some day. Death does have a long standing fear of the ice cream man....so no frozen goodness for him.

   Q) What is the Annual Ball? The Annual Ball is the first and one of the largest user run events on Gaia Online. This tradition dates back to March 2003 when a user by the name of Misao decided to host a Ball for his fellow Gaians. The 1st Annual Ball was the first user run event on Gaia and received a great deal of support from the site administration. Since its conception, the Annual Ball has grown into a much larger celebration with more diversified themes each and every year. The Annual Ball has experienced many changes throughout the years, but the one thing that remains the same is the great friendly atmosphere that Gaians have come to love. The Annual Ball is considered a place where Gaians can come together to meet up with old friends and make new ones. This commemoration is deeply rooted in role play elements, but for many the Annual Ball is considered a wonderful excuse to hang out and share fond Gaia memories. Q) How does it work? This is a 3-4 day roleplaying event. There is usually a main host that oversees and coordinates the entire ball and then there are several rooms that fit under the main theme of the entire ball. Each of these rooms have their own co-hosts that run their respective rooms with their own mini themes. All main rooms will have their own thread in the ball's forum, but users are free to make their own threads in the forum, as well. These will not be official, though; the ball's official rooms will be stickied for convenience. Guests are encouraged to hang out in these rooms, but will not be limited to them. Q) Is this an official event? This isn't an official event from Gaia as it is user-run. We are merely supported by the admins (ie. giving us the forums). Also please keep in mind! This is not the anniversary ball or prom, those are Gaia run events, and we are in no way affiliated with them. Q) Will I get a free item? That is a tricky question to answer since the first two years yielded items, yet the last few years didn't. BUT it is safe to say that NO you will most likely not be getting items. The choice to give out items for this ball is purely up to the administration and we have no say in that (as far as anyone knows). The Ball has plenty of games with a ton of neat prizes though, so don't worry you will still have a chance at some prizes. Q) What is this year's Ball Theme? The 2012 Annual User-run Ball's theme is The Land of Dreams. Q) Who is running this year's ball? The Ball hosts of 2012 are Broken_Bleeding_Angel and LilChibiUsa.
