Who: Iorek / Lillian / Tyson and Anita / Cruz
Where: Barton Town Cafe
When: Early afternoon

"Here we are! Come on boys!" Lillian called as she hopped out of the jeep. With hands on her hips she turned to look back where she came. A few moments after, like little ducklings, Iorek and Tyson got out of the vehicle and trailed after Lillian.

Lil wore a wide smile as she looked them over. "Good. Very good. Oh Reks, here, come closer." She gestured at the hunk of stone.

The raevan drifted close and leaned over. Lillian ran her fingers through his hair and worked to flatten the spiky hair in hopes that it wouldn't resemble a mangy lion mane. "There. Much better!" She stepped away from her work with a look of pride. "Now we're ready."

The trio made their way into the cafe, spoke with the hostess, and were seated outside. It was the perfect place to wait for Anita and her raevan's arrival.

"We're waiting for someone but I'd like to order an ice tea and a lemonade. Thank you." Lillian told the waiter. As the woman walked away she sat back in her chair and looked out at the beautiful park. Yep. This cafe was her favorite.

Hopefully Anitaa would be able to find it. She had called Lillian a few days ago after getting her number on a guardian phone list from the Lab. At the sound of the phone's chimes Lillian had dived upon the device. When the zipcode proved it belonged to a Gaia area and not that of another country, Lillian almost didn't answer the rings. But picking up the phone even when bummed turned out to be a good action.

Anita had called them asking to set up what you would call a 'play date' for the raevan in her care and Iorek. With socializing on the brain Lillian was eager to have them meet. Now they waited for the two to arrive.

Iorek sighed and sunk low to match the duo's sitting level. Tyson glanced over at him and arched a brow at the raevan's sullen behavior. "What's wrong, Reks? You look bummed or something."

Reks perked up when the boy called him out on how he was acting. He fidgeted and glanced from side to side. "Oh, no, no that's not it. Just nervous I suppose. Meeting a new raevan always makes me a little anxious." Iorek smiled weakly and looked between his two guardians. "I'm excited to meet him. I look forward to it, believe me. Just can't help but feel all...weird? Does that sound right?"

Barton wasn't exactly a hop skip and a jump from Gambino but with her home being on an island the same could be said of anywhere else. Anita knew the trip would be a bit far but the weather was nice and it would be worth it to meet new people associated with the Lab -- good for she and Cruz alike since it turned out their Raevan had been around for a few years. It was a hope of Anita's that perhaps this older Raevan, much like Zul, could be something of a mentor to Cruz but with no information outside of their names, essence and soul on the call sheet (and of course knowing that Lillian, the oldest, seemed nice enough from her voice) it was going to be a surprise all around for the group of five.

"Nita," Cruz thrummed in a low voice, "What are the names?" She had mentioned before, but she couldn't blame Cruz for having a bit of trouble when she was experiencing it herself.

Pulling the sheet out with the directions and names scrawled quickly in a corner, she looked over it and bit her lip. "Lillian's the one I spoke to on the phone, Tyson's her younger brother, and um... Ee-or-ek, Eye-or-- hm... He's the Raevan. I guess we'll figure out how to say it once we meet up."

This reminder came after they had parked and were getting ready to exit the car. The trip had been fairly simple; a ferry ride from Gambino, Anita checking what came next at each stop and repeating it to Cruz so he could remind her. It was a silver SUV, fairly bulky and high off the ground but easy to handle. As usual, she borrowed it from her mom since she didn't have a vehicle of her own yet aside from the bike but it was no trouble on a Saturday afternoon like today.

"Alright, you ready?" Anita grinned, rolling the paper up and stuffing it into the glove compartment.

Cruz let out a throaty rumble when he grinned back, all teeth.

Their attire was casual. Cruz hadn't deviated from his typical ensemble, even bringing the white hair ribbon back instead of any other color. While Anita wanted to make a good impression, she didn't feel the need to dress up either so she wore a simple baby tee, low cut caprees, and sandals as well as a pair of sunglasses. As usual, her hair was done up in two braids and they were starting to get long, reaching the middle of her back easily. Despite the Summer heat, Cruz still clung to Anita's hand happily and with her free hand tucked in a pocket the two made their way across the street to the cafe.

Though she had no idea what any of them looked like, with two floating torsos it wouldn't be hard for them to spot one another. As they rounded the corner to the outdoor seats, she paused and grinned. What a sight! The gargoyle frei's arms were gigantic, curled horns matching his long pointed ears, and oh his wings. If he weren't looking so nervously at the ground and floating at such a low height, she might have been intimidated by him but the poor boy was taking such a submissive posture that she couldn't help but smile.

"Hey guys," she called before making her way over, tugging Cruz in tow, "Found you easy enough. How's your day been so far?"

Cruz smiled softly, content with the weather and temperature today as well as the prospect of meeting others in the "family". Though he wasn't as nervous as Iorek in regards to the meeting, nor even as uncertain as Anita despite her friendly greeting, there was still some concern that began to surface when he saw the body language Iorek was putting off. Everything about it read discomfort and it made Cruz's cheerful smile falter. He backed up slightly, which made Anita pause and look back, their hands still holding one another.

Blinking behind her sunglasses, she gave his hand a light squeeze. "You okay, bud?"

He paused, looking the monstrous frei up and down with an uneasy pout. With the stony frei fidgeting anxiously, Cruz didn't want to accidentally put him off even more. As he read the other's outward appearance, he felt the need to tread lightly and not invade his personal space. All he could think to do in response to his guardian's question was turn it around.

"Is he?"

The trio looked up from chatting amongst themselves when they heard someone shout, 'Hey guys!'.

Lillian smiled and pushed out of her chair to walk over and meet Anita and Cruz. Anita was pretty gal and her raevan was very striking. His green hues were eye-catching and for a brief moment, Lil feared she may have been staring, "Heh, hello you two! I'm so glad you could come over and meet us. I know you guys live a ways away but I hope the travel was good. We've just been hanging around so our day as been go--"

"Very good." Tyson finished for her as he and Iorek got up and moved over to the little group. The lad grinned and looked between the two newcomers. Just like Lillian he thought Cruz was a very interesting raevan. His colors were vibrant and the sun just brought further life to his appearance.

"Wow, you're a pretty neat raevan. I um...I like your jewelry." Tyson motioned at the necklace and the golden piece Cruz wore. "Has anyone told you it looks like six eyes and a mouth? Kind of like you have a monster or something. It's so cool!" He grinned until he realized, "Uh...that's weird...sorry..." The boy laughed and looked away as his cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

Although he had grown older he could still be a rambling chatterbox around raevans. No matter how old he became the fascination for them was still there. "I'm Tyson." The boy remembered to add.

"And I'm Lillian." Lil laughed and gave a small shrug. She patted her brother's shoulder and scooched them over just a tad to give Iorek more room.

The gargoyle had just been quiet up until now. He'd been looking over Anita and Cruz from where he hovered. They looked nice. He wondered how old the other frei was. Perhaps he was really young? The green raevan was holding his guardian's hand so maybe he sought comfort? Or she was just afraid of him wandering off somewhere?

When the group's attention rested on him Iorek's long ears gave a twitch and he straightened his back. He was supposed to be making a good first impression. They must think he's odd by the way he's been behaving. Or maybe they could tell he was just nervous?

"Oh! Um..." He flushed when it came to his introduction. "I'm Iorek. It's so nice to meet you. How are you doing? Enjoying Gambino?"

Iorek smiled politely but he wondered if that was too formal? He didn't want to come off as a snob. Or was it too scripted? Did he sound like a robot? There really shouldn't be this much thinking into meeting new people. What he needed to do was just relax.

"I'm very happy to meet you both." He quickly added, looking to Cruz, "Especially you. It's really nice to meet other raevans."

The reception from the two guardians was warm and Anita couldn't help but smile. Lillian seemed about her age while Tyson was quite a bit younger but not enough that she would say childish. Any nervousness about making a good impression lifted off her shoulders as the two eased up themselves. Tucking her free hand in a pocket, Anita grinned and looked over to Cruz. While he quickly picked up on the nervous demeanor and body language from the other frei, the sudden compliment and attention from Tyson distracted him enough that he rose an inch or two higher and his wings twitched pridefully.

"Really?" he rumbled in response, looking down at his collar bone and using his free hand to touch the golden plates, tracing a claw along the emerald stones. It took him a few seconds but eventually the image became clear to him. With a throaty, reptilian grumble, Cruz smiled at Tyson, flashing his crocodile teeth. "Thank you."

Anita chuckled, swinging their held hands lightly. "The trip wasn't so bad. Once you get past the ferry from Gambino, it's pretty easy to navigate and Barton's always been a straight forward place. But yeah, hey, it's great to meet you guys. We don't normally get to meet up with new people with Lab except at the social functions. The parties and fundraisers, you know." When it was turn for the other frei of the group to make his introduction, she offered him a friendly smile but the smile of her eyes was hidden behind darkened shades. Beside her, Cruz's smile faltered once everyone's attention was back to the low floating gargoyle and he crooked his neck, eyes moving quickly with scrutiny. He didn't understand why this one seemed to be so uncomfortable but there was some relief felt when he managed to speak and didn't seem standoffish.

"Good, thanks," Anita smiled while giving Cruz's hand a reassuring squeeze, "Gambino's nice. I'm liking the scenery more than Durem and the atmosphere seems better for him anyway."

She nodded her head in Cruz's direction with that comment, to which the crocodile allowed himself to open up a bit more with the anxious raevan, "It is nice and warm." He followed up with a smile of his own, one which brightened considerably when Iorek continued speaking. Bright green eyes lit with excitement when Iorek's attention was placed solely on him. "Good to meet you, Eeyorek," Cruz sounded the name out as best he could, though it may not have been correctly mimicked, "I am Cruz and this is Nita."

"Anita," she laughed, offering her free hand to the gargoyle to shake, "Did you guys find a seat already or were you just waiting? I'm gettin' kinda hungry."

Tyson's eyes sparkled when he saw those lovely crocodile teeth. "Aw dude, your teeth are awesome!" He leaned forward to get a better look and grinned widely. "Wish mine were that neat." The lad flopped back in his chair and tugged at a tooth. "Maybe I'll get mine sharpened when I'm older."

"Never." Lillian piped in before looking back to Anita. "Ah yeah, the ferry. I totally understand." She played with the straw to her drink and nodded, "Yeah, that's usually us too. We kind of got involved in the Lab after going to one of their events. Oh what was it...Valentine's day! That was it." She laughed at the memory. "But it's totally nice to meet with you outside one of those. Kind of hard to get to know anyone with all the stuff going on during a party."

"Oh yeah! You're from Durem? We know a few people from around there. So many fancy buildings in the city. There's a lot of hustle and bustle compared to Gambino." Tyson added before taking a sip of his lemonade.

Iorek smiled and nodded as a warm breeze blew by them as if to prove a point. "Heh, good job pronouncing my name. It's usually a toughie. You can call me Reks too if you'd like."

"Or All-star Captain Reks as he likes his action figures to call him." Tyson mumbled from between his straw.

Reks groaned and quickly shook his head. "Ah...p-please don't. I-It's just a joke." He lightly chuckled as he slowly drew his hands out from underneath the table. Since their arrival his massive paws had been hidden and he'd hate to frighten the girl with a surprise. When she didn't retract her hand he happily (and gently) shook hers.

Afterwards the gargoyle motioned for them to take a seat. "Come! Sit down! We made sure there's enough room. Sorry we didn't tell you to earlier. Kind of got caught up in the moment." He flushed in embarrassment and gave a little shrug. It didn't seem like Anita minded though. "I haven't met another raevan in quite sometime. How are you, Cruz? Having fun with Anita?"

The younger's compliments to the croc seemed unending. His words were so enthusiastic that they easily bled over onto the croc's demeanor. Cruz's wings flared, green eyes alight with pride, and his smile grew. He didn't see why getting one's teeth sharpened would be a problem but the human sister certainly did and nipped that idea in the bud with precision. A low rumble of amusement curled from his throat and Cruz glanced back to Tyson in response, giving a subtle chomp of the air in lieu of a playful wink.

At the mention of Valentine's Day, Cruz practically melted. His eyes closed and let out a grumble of a purr. Anita chuckled at Lillian, as well as her charge's theatrics. "It was a beach party for me, years ago." It was honestly hard to believe her first introduction to Lab 305 and the creatures it bore was so long ago when it only felt like yesterday since she had received the mistletoe sometimes.

"Cruz hasn't been there. S'for the best, I think. I never liked cities much. Too cramped." she stuck her tongue out at the idea, scrunching her face up.

The gargoyle frei's compliment was well received and Cruz offered a thankful smile in return. His name was certainly more syllables than he'd normally give any single word, but that wasn't particularly troubling. All the same, it was a mouthful and having to say it each time would get tiring, he knew. The offer of a nickname was appreciated, and he tested the shortened "Reks" out on his lips. "Iorek. Reks. Reks. Yorek. Hrrm," Cruz lifted a hand, lightly a nail against his lower lip in thought when Tyson piped in. The croc's face lit up at the boy and he turned to look Iorek in the eye with a genuine smile, "Captain?" As quickly as it was recognized Iorek dismissed it as a joke. Cruz shrugged, not put off in the least.

Anita took Iorek's large, rough hand eagerly with a grin that matched her Raevan's. Not a sliver of fear to be seen. At the invitation to sit, she pulled her sunglasses back finally and tucked them neatly atop her head. "Thanks," she laughed, completely understanding. The two settled comfortably in the space that was left, Cruz deciding to keep close between Iorek and Tyson. As he had learned, the women tended to keep close together, at least between humans, so this was normal regardless but these two were interesting and he was eager to hear more of their banter.

"Yes," he said pleasantly, "Nita is very fun. Reks is having fun with Tyson?" Grinning, eyes still locked with Iorek's, Cruz lifted a hand and lightly fluffed Tyson's bangs before looking at the boy. "And Tyson with Reks?"

"I hope we didn't keep you guys waiting too long," Anita laughed with a tinge of embarrassment, "I haven't come out here in a while."

The Maevin family looked very happy to be in their company. All were positively delighted, especially Iorek as he smiled brightly between Anita and Cruz. The two seemed genuinely happy to meet them and comfortable. It just made everybody relax.

Lillian laughed waved her hand, “Nah, not at all. I’m just glad you guys could make it. It’s about time we all got together.” She smiled and looked between Iorek and Cruz as she murmured to Anita, “Plus, I always feel like Reks is happier when he can hang out with other raevans. ya know?”

Tyson laughed and brushed his now-fluffy hair away from his eyes, “Yeah…” He snickered and dramatically rolled his eyes with a big huff, “I guess Iorek is pretty fun for a living rock.”

Reks smirked and shook his head at Tyson’s little teasing. He reached out and fluffed up the boy’s hair some more so it was even more amuck, “I like to think we get along good enough. Kind of like…what is that term…brothers from another mother.”
PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2015 10:38 am

“Oh, definitely,” Anita returned to Lillian with a grin. She peeked over at the green frei floating with the boys. “Cruz is the same way, he's gotta be around other folks all the time but other raevans are the best.”

The mistletoe frei smiled easier the more everyone spoke around him. With the shift in atmosphere to a more relaxed one, he afforded himself the same comfort and eased closer to Iorek and Tyson. “Brothers?” Cruz asked curiously as he glanced between the two. “Like Tango?” Cruz turned to his guardian, brows lifted curiously.

Anita laughed and nodded. “Yeah, like Tango. He's our dog but he's our brother, too.”

With that, Cruz turned back and nodded firmly. He knew what it was like to have a brother, then, specifically one from 'another mother'. “What things you like?” His diction was still clumsy, young as he was.

Lillian laughed and shrugged, “So…How are the two of you adjusting? Fairly easy or did you hit any bumps in the road? Um…if that’s not too odd to ask?” Probably wasn’t a good idea to go snooping but she was definitely curious to hear how other guardians worked with their wards.

Iorek grinned at the mention of their dog, “We have one too! He’s a big great dane called Marmaduke, or The Duke.”

“He might be big but your still bigger if you ask me.” Tyson added as he nibbled on a treat.

The two boys looked between each other as they pondered what they liked, “Comic books.” They said in unison.

“Cartoons too. We watch those a lot…and uh…” Tyson tapped his chin as he thought about what they did together.

“Training! I work out a lot.” Reks grinned and struck a muscle pose so he could show off his biceps, “I’m gonna be as strong as Superman one of these days!”
PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2015 1:46 pm

"Oh," Anita laughed a tad sheepishly, "everything is still a learning experience. It's hard to explain things sometimes. Cruz is still pretty young minded, you know." She shrugged and pushed her sunglasses to rest atop her head while offering the two freis a smile. "How about you? How were things with Reks when he was younger?"

At the mention of another dog, Cruz's eyes practically sparkled with interest. "Dooook," he rumbled happily. The two dogs absolutely had to meet one day, especially if Marmaduke was large.

"Ah, cartoons, yes," the croc nodded. He and Anita often watched cartoons together if she wasn't at work, though he was lacking exposure to comics. Cruz left that topic alone with the introduction of training to the conversation. Without hesitation, the mistletoe frei reached out and pressed his palm against Iorek's rocky forearm. He wore an intrigued smile and drew his fingers against the rough texture of the gargoyle's skin. "Already super."

Lillian grinned and nodded along with Anita. She tilted her head form side to side as she recalled Iorek’s beginning days, “Oh those days…heh, definitely a lot of adjustments. Iorek was such a different kind of guy. He was very shy, a little slow up in the cranium, and really-and I mean really- enjoyed showing affection through hugging. That would of been fine and dandy but he didn’t know his own strength.”

Lillian dramatically leans back and clenches her torso sides. “My poor ribs shiver whenever I think about those days. He was cute, especially when he was learning to write with his big pencil, but overall it was a challenge.” Of course…the Maevins were raising him on their own. Lillian was a young teen at the time and Tyson just a kid. So kids raising kids..not the most ideal of situations.

Lillian laughed and played with the straw in her drink as she looked from Cruz back to Anita. “But ya know, I’m sure you’ll have a much easier time. Looking at you, you have a lot more to offer than I did. And Cruz seems to be growing into a very nice guy.”

Iorek and Tyson laughed and nodded along as Cruz played with their dog’s name.

“Yup! He’s a mighty dog. Looks like a cow with his black spots on white fur. Plus with his size and all.” Reks said as he pictured their furry pal.

Iorek’s cheeks slightly flushed when Cruz rested his warm hand against his arm. His green eyes darted from Cruz’s face to the placement of his hand. Just a friendly tap…even if this was suddenly resembling the lovey-dovey couples in his comics. But they had just met and Cruz was only admiring him for his form. Until the hand started moving.

“Um…heh, yeah. Very super! So um, what do you like to do Cesc? Anything you really like?” Iorek asked as he did his best to ignore Tyson’s locked-on stare and Cruz’s soft fingers caressing him.
PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2015 2:02 pm

"Oh god," Anita sputtered out a sympathetic laugh, "Yeah I bet. That does sound cute, though. I think Cruz is coming along pretty similarly, especially with affection. Only... minus the rib crushing."

With a curious raise of her brows, Anita turned to face Lillian more fully. Just by looking at her? She didn't really look like much, did she? Anita gave a sheepish chuckle and rested her arms on the table. "What do you mean?"

His guardian's attention elsewhere now, she didn't notice Cruz's breach in personal space. It was relatively short-lived, just enough of an experimental stroke to enjoy the rough texture of Iorek's skin and tap his fingertips against the protruding stone before he withdrew. The croc held a pleasant smile on his face and kept contact between their green eyes, though he did glance away to smile at Tyson briefly.

"Like dogs," Cruz noted with a grin, "TV, beach, drawing..." The croc trailed off a little as he brought his hands up and began counting off of them. "Christmas!! Love Christmas. Holidays. You do Christmas?"

Lillian blinked as she realized that was probably weird thing to say to someone. Her cheeks flushed and she knew she was close to sputtering but managed to keep herself under control. It still felt odd to talk about their situation. She wasn’t dreadfully afraid to mention to people that it was just her, Tyson, and Reks anymore but she her heart still gave a nervous ha-bump, “Oh, um…I didn’t mean for that to sound…strange.”

Lillian smiled at Anita as she worked to recover from the little slippage, “I meant that, you seem to have a lot more together about you then when Iorek came into our lives. Before it was the three of us, it was the two of us. I was around fifteen…sixteen? Tyson was just a little kid.”

She laughed a little as a few memories whizzed by. Her voice dropped down little lower now to try and avoid the boys from hearing. “So we were babies trying to raise a baby. Not the best situation to be in. I don’t think we messed up too badly but ya know, I still have regrets in a few areas that I think I could of taught him better.” And there it was. Out for a nice bite to eat with someone she barely knew and Lillian was suddenly sharing something that probably was better to bring up after years of knowing each other and over lots and lots of wine.

Iorek licked his lips as he looked between Cruz’s hand and his pretty forest green eyes. His brain was suddenly running over reason as it scrambled to figure out what his stare meant. Did he have something in his eye or did Cruz get this friendly with everyone?

But as soon as it had happened, Cruz then let him go. The young Reks had wasted this nice and affectionate time trying to figure things out and had forgotten to just enjoy it! What a dope he was!

Iorek did his best to hide his disappointed face and tried to brush away his jitters. He was being ridiculous! Although looking into one’s eyes and touching were two ways people flirted…or so it said in all of Lillian’s magazines that he greatly enjoyed reading.

“Our favorite things!” Tyson grinned widely and nudged Iorek.

The boy’s contact thankfully did enough to knock Reks back into the present. He smiled at how cute Cruz was as he listed off his favorite things.

“We live on the beach so…if ever want to come over sometime…” Iorek said to quickly insert some kind of invitation.

“We definitely celebrate Christmas. It’s probably our favorite holiday.”

“Oh yeah, definitely.” Tyson agreed and nodded along with Reks. “We go all out on it!”

Reks grinned and the two boys shared a laugh as they seemed to recall the same whacky Christmas memory at the same time. “Heh, why do you love Christmas, Cruz? Any special reason?”
PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2015 3:01 pm

"No, it's okay," Anita chuckled and adjusted her arms on the table. She gave Lillian a reassuring smile and leaned in a bit to offer her attention. Through the explanation her brows raised several times. Aside from offering a nod here or there, Anita kept quiet and didn't interject until the other guardian finished. "Man, you guys had a lot on your plate."

She reached up to rub the back of her neck. "Honestly, I was kind of the same way. Well-- I was thinking about it at around the same time. I first heard about Lab when I was eighteen and I was on my own in Durem at the time. You know, fresh out. But I'm glad things panned out how they did, I do think I'm in a much better spot now for Cruz's sake. It sounds like you guys did your best, though, and he seems to have turned out fine."

Cruz couldn't help but rumble appreciatively at Tyson's exclamation. Their favorite things! The croc knew, then, these were good folks and he all but gravitated closer into Iorek's personal bubble as a result.

"Yes," Cruz purred. And ah! Christmas was their favorite too. That made his eyes brighten, along with his smile.

The gargoyle's question caused it to falter as he thought, but only for a moment before returning full force. "It's nice," he explained tentatively, "Pretty. Fun. Like being together. Friends and family."

“Wow. Something about the lab just brings everyone in. You were pretty young too to take on such a big task. It’s like raising a kid. At least they don’t come baby size, then I really would of been in trouble.” Lillian giggled to herself as she pictured Reks and Cruz as actually babies. Now that would of been weird.

“Heh, I think so? We didn’t break him so that’s pretty good. And Cruz is so sweet.” Lillian was definitely curious to know what was his soul and fel essence. Something green and exotic? But she didn’t know if it was taboo to ask others. While she and Tyson never hid it from Iorek, every guardian was different. ”Have you met a lot of other people from the Lab yet? Has he?”

“I’m gonna go see what else they have food wise. You guys want anything?” Tyson asked as he got up from the table. Lillian handed him some money and said to just buy goodies they could share.

Iorek watched Ty go before looking back to Cruz. He was such a cute raevan. There was something very charming about him. Maybe it was his smile? His personality? His curiosity? Whatever it was made Reks want to pull him into a hug and never let go.

“Mmm, you’re right. Those are great reasons to like Christmas. Too bad it doesn’t happen more than once a year.” Although if he had to buy people presents each and every time Reks would go broke. “Do you guys have a big family or is it just the you, Anita, and Tango? For us it’s Lil, Tyson, me, and our pets.” And sometimes he wished there were more but three was okay. Three was perfect.
