Clutching the ad from the convenience store window, Naomi entered the coffee shop with wide, expectant eyes. She'd seen the ad the weekend before and had spent the day studying it, consulting with Chase to ensure that he agreed that it didn't look like a serial murderer/rapist/****** before dialling the number. A fairly normal-sounding girl had picked up, and after a quick conversation they'd agreed to meet up.

She felt bad leeching off of Chase. He'd been wonderful to her, and she was immensely grateful to him for everything he'd done to help her re-integrate. But the next step was getting her own place, her own job. She'd forever be in Chase's debt, but to be perfectly honest she'd had to feeling that Samuel Black had been waiting for her to leave ever since she'd move in. As far as he was concerned she'd far outstayed her welcome, and it was starting to get to the point where it was awkward. Naomi had flicked through newspapers and looked in shop windows for ads, and out of the few she'd noted down in the past week, Tova's had seemed the most promising.

A quick glance around the coffee shop confirmed the girl wasn't there yet - she'd let Naomi know what she'd be wearing, and vice versa - and so the blonde made her way to the counter and ordered herself a caramel latte. While she waited, she dusted off the black skirt she'd chosen, readjusting the loose-fitting red-and-white striped jumper she'd thrown on the top. She'd been going for a smart-casual look, not wanting to seem boring but at the same time not wanted to seem like a snob. The bronze ballet pumps and jewellery were designed to add to the look. Sighing, Naomi took her coffee as it was delivered and found a nice table by the window with two comfy sofa-chairs.

Why did this feel like a job interview?

Tova arrived only a few moments late - wearing the purple shirt she had mentioned she'd have on - and quickly scanned the room for her target next victim potential new roommate. Aha - the blonde by the window seemed to match the description. Without very much of a smile - she had been told she had "an ugly smile" and to not smile when making a first impression "because its creepy" - she gave the world's faintest wave before taking her seat in the opposite sofa chair.

"I'm Tova. You must be Selena," she said flatly, leaning back in her seat. She paused for a brief, awkward amount of time as she just stared intensely at the blonde before her. Eh, she didn't look like the kind of b***h she'd have to kill again. Granted, she was a blonde, so it might happen. "You'll do. Can you pay the rent that was listed on the ad?"

She realized immediately she had cut straight to the chase, and may have come on a bit too strong.

"I'm sorry, where are my manners?" she teased with an unconvincing laugh. "We should get to know each other. Is there anything you'd like to know about me?"

Naomi had been watching the door, and her lips stretched into a welcoming smile as she returned the very faint wave she was given. At least...she thought it was a wave. Maybe it was just a twitch. Either way, she wanted to appear friendly, and a wave did that...right? Oh god, it would be just like her to seem insanely keen.

The blonde was surprised by the bluntness the brunette used - did she not want to know more about her? As much as Chase had been adamant that she had to make sure she wasn't shacking up with a serial killer, she'd expected the girl to have a similar thought towards her. "Nice to meet you, Tova." She kept smiling regardless, convincing herself that she was over-thinking this. Perhaps the girl had just had a bad day? "I can pay it, and I assume we'll split bills and things too?"

The laugh seemed strange, but Naomi didn't like making immediate first impressions so allowed her smile to naturally stretch into a smile, "Uhm, well, I don't know. Is there anything I should know? You're not a serial killer are you?" She laughed a little awkwardly, embarrassed at her own bad joke, "What do you do for a living, Tova?"

Sorry for the delay!

Well this certainly put Tova in an awkward position. She did want a roommate, yes? She supposed some lies or stretching of the truth couldn’t hurt too much.

“No, not a serial killer,” Tova said, actually addressing what could have been a tossaway comment. She put a slight inflection on the word serial, as if to imply that any killings she has done weren’t of the serial nature. That wasn’t even exactly true – but her targets were typically Order-aligned folk, especially Knights. And they were targets of war, not innocents. She paused to dodge yet another question “I do make money for a living so you won’t need to worry about me paying the rent.”

To be honest and outwardly say that she loots money from energy-drained victims would just make her sound mean.

This wasn’t going well and Tova knew it. She needed to take action. Maybe threaten to kill the girl unless she lives with her. Wait. No. There was something wrong with that plan – she just couldn’t place her finger on it. Maybe bribery!

“Also I like to bake cookies or brownies every night and you can have those whenever you want,” she added.

As strange as it was, the confirmation that Tova wasn't a serial killer was met with a nod and a smile. Well, that was one of Chase' requirements met! She went on to assure a worry that Naomi hadn't actually had, and the blonde frowned as she gave a slow, confused nod. "Oh, um, okay." Whilst it was good to know, the fact that Tova had pointed it out now made her seem as if she was hiding something. Naomi was confused, but didn't want to push it further - after all, she herself was hiding a pretty big secret. Did the Negaverse have their own bank account from which they were going to pay her rent, or what?

"Oh, I love cookies!" The mood lightened, Naomi smiled again. She wondered briefly if she should broach about nighttime antics - she didn't want to move in only to discover that Tova was a secret nocturnal WoW player, restricting her ability to rendezvous with Labyrinthite and undertake the patrols she was soon to be assigned. How did you go about asking something like that, though? "You don't stay up late much, do you? I'm a pretty light sleeper."

"I stay up late from time to time, but if I do I'm so quiet you shouldn't be bothered. You won't even hear a door open," she assured the girl. She had to e honest that she would spend many nights out of the apartment - though couldn't share that she would be out under the guise of Sailor Requiem, of course. And she was honest that she wouldn't hear a door open - after all, no doors needed to be opened to access mirrorspace. "That said, I'm a fairly heavy sleeper so you don't need to worry about waking me up in the middle of the night."

Tova crossed her legs as she tried to think of the things that she used to talk about with other humans before her conversations all drifted toward the topic of converting Senshi, draining citizens, and murdering Knights. What did normal girls talk about?

"Do you like One Direction?" she asked. No. No that was a stupid question. "Ignore that. Do you have a boyfriend?"

Damn - Tova might well have been quiet, but Naomi wasn't sure how quiet she was sometimes. Mrs Black had never been alerted to hers and Chase's nighttime outings, but then again their house was huge. It would be a little different in a small flat.

Ohhh but she was a heavy sleeper. Naomi tried to hide the slight relief that crossed her face, instead smiling politely and nodding. "Oh, okay. I get quite a lot of work from DCU so I'll be up late finishing that a lot, but as long as there aren't house parties every night that's great." One Direction? It was a massively guilty pleasure, and she wasn't sure whether this was a test by the strange brunette - if she said yes would that then mean that she wouldn't be allowed to move in? Luckily, she was instructed to ignore the question, and the next one was a little easier to answer.

"Nope, not for a long time." For as far as she could remember at least. "You?"

"I had one but he's gay now," Tova shrugged. Small talk: she was good at it. She then actually began to show more signs of humanity as she found an in to talk about her hobbies - which she never gets to do, since she rarely speaks to others outside of the DMC. Man, she really needed a roommate. "I'm at DCU too! I'm studying film and media studies, so those nights that I am up late I am normally in my room with headphones on, watching something."

"I mean, you can watch with me if you want some nights," she added. "If you're interested in living with me, that is? What do you say?"

...Oh. Well, that was unexpected. The brunette's blunt response threw Naomi somewhat, and it took her a while to realise that her mouth was hanging open in a most unattractive manner and she really should close it. Tova then launched into talking about DCU, and the blonde was grateful for a change of subject as her lips quirked upwards in a smile as she leant forwards with interest. "Ohh that sounds really neat! I'm studying classical literature - mostly the greek stuff." She could go on about it all day, but figured that might make her seem weird. After all, a lot of the stuff she read about was far from PG-13.

"That sounds cool - what sort of stuff do you watch?" And then it was thrust on her, very suddenly - was she going to live with this girl? As strange as she'd first seemed, Tova did seem nice. And she was busy enough that she hopefully wouldn't notice if the blonde vanished a couple of nights a week... "Yeah," she smiled, nodding as she did so, "I'd like to give it a go."

Tag! Wrap in next posts?

"I mostly watch horror, a lot of foreign horror," Tova started. She was ready to continue and share all the gory - seriously, gory - details, but silenced herself with a smile at Naomi's acceptance. "Really? ******** yeah."

It was about the happiest Tova had been in her civilian life in a while. She hadn't creeped someone out and sent them running for the hills! Mental self high-five.

*mental slap sound*

"Well, you have some of my contact info," Tova said. "I should get running, but..." She took out a pen and scribbled a note with the rest of her info, including the apartment address. "We'll work things out in a bit? It was really nice meeting you, Naomi. I think we will make good roommates."

She started to reach her hand out for a handshake, but then decided she hated using handshakes or hugs or any kind of physical touching, so pulled her hand away and gave an awkward wave as she rose from her seat. "Bye!"

Horror? Naomi wrinkled her nose a little - she wasn't the biggest fan of horror. Luckily the subject soon moved on, and the smile that crept up the brunette's face was enough to put one back on Naomi's, though it was a little awkward since she wasn't sure what to go for. Was a hug too much? But then wasn't a handshake too formal? Tova was scribbled something down and then just stood up with a wave, and even though it felt wrong Naomi merely stood with her and gave another awkward wave back.

"Uh, it was nice meeting you too! I'll give you a call next week to come over and have a look?" This was good - she was getting more independent, which was what she needed. Her smile brightened as she pulled her bag onto her shoulder and gave a wave. "I'll talk to you later!"

There was a new spring in her step as she left, humming merrily to herself.
