Lifen was out of ink.

It seemed remarkable how someone could go through so much ink in such a short time - all the working and writing the last few days had just about stained the horsewoman's fingers black. Which was usually the beginning of interesting question - the nobles had never really seen someone with fingers blackened, and most of the clansmen out of the Conquest clan were physical, not mental.

Regardless, she hoped that someone at the school could help her locate a bit of ink until she was able to procure her own - deadlines fraying to the point where somedays she had to make sure that the white streaks in her hair were the same length. The sheer black colour of the strands were stressed enough as is, and she was only starting to comfort to the lines already in her hair.

Turning down a corridor, she looked in to a classroom, mouth frozen in a frown as she peered around, hoping to find anyone. Even if she knew it was futile, she let a small "Hello?" out, wondering if anyone would answer.

Blackened fingers was something Uller was used to. No matter how neat he tried to be, the stag had always managed to get smudge ink on his sleeves, clothes, hands and sometimes his face if he wasn't paying that much attention.

Today, he was wandering in and out of classrooms, trying to get a feel for the school. It was warmer than he would have liked it, but tolerable. Perhaps if he got in the same classes as Tahki he could use her to help keep them both cool. His black eyes narrowed as he sat in one of the seats, drumming his blue fingers against the wood of the desk. His hair was down about his shoulders today and was unmoving, because who believed in cooling down the rooms if there were no classes?

Still, he was trying to see how long it would take to chill the room to a comfortable temperature by himself. Honestly, he wasn't expecting anyone to come here today. Most of them seemed busy with something or other that happened before he was enrolled.

Lips pursed as he heard someone's foot steps and then a tentative 'Hello?' He turned his head, looking toward the door and sighed. "Hello?" He echoed, figuring it would be another student. Honestly, all he knew was Tahki at this point in time, so another encounter with another student seemed physically daunting to the prissy teenager.

He rose to his full height, of five-foot-four now that he was in his slightly heeled boots and weaved in and out of the desks. The temperature in the room was about three degrees cooler than out in the hallway.

Success!

She wasn't exactly sure who had answered her, but it was an answer none-the-less, she was starting there. Turning around to peer at the room behind her where the voice had come from, she almost expected Senga to be in the room - the tone of the hello a constant in the little fluffy War clansman when she saw him. Instead, she came just about face to face with what appeared to be a student. With frostbite or something.

A shiver rolled over her shoulders as she finally realized the temperature change, her normally light clothing not optimal for the cool air. She tried to look past it, watching him for a moment before deciding what she'd do. He appeared . . . disinterested, but she waved that off, hoping to score some assistance out of the journey.

"Hello." she parrotted, not entirely sure how to get the words from her head to her mouth. "Do you know where they keep supplies?" She asked a little timidly, her hands worrying softly in front of her, rubbing the ink further in to porcelain white skin.

Disinterest was right until he got a good look at whoever it was. A girl, with skin that contrasted his own, greatly and hair three times as long as his, if he had to guess by how many loops was there. Then he looked her over and stopped at her chest.

Well. Hello there, big breasts. Uller had somehow managed to keep his brows from arching and looked past the assets this girl had. Then he noticed her see through legs and he did let a brow arch. Weird. Whatever, he'd be seeing a lot of unusual things, he supposed. This was the first time he came in contact with anyone with translucent skin before. It was interesting, to see the way human legs worked. No doubt, in this shape, his own looked similar if he were to cut himself open and look.

Then his black eyes caught sight of the black ink on her hands. Ah, she must be a teacher making tests. But then why wouldn't she know where they kept the supplies? He let out a sigh and shrugged a little bit. "No, I don't know where they keep the supplies, but you're going to ruin those clothes if you're not more careful with them. With material and thread as fine as that it's a shame to know you're using ink around them." He let a frown pull at his lips before shrugging at sitting down on a desk, hands in his lap as he crossed his legs.

Were students always this bold?

Giving a soft scowl at the forehead of the boy as he looked her over, she folded her hands higher up, trying to buffet his glance away from her . . . assets momentarily, fabric folding across her midsection a bit. It was usually like this, but with the youths also? She gave an obvious huff softly, trying to look past it.

"Shoot." she murmured when he answered which seemed evident to her before he even opened his mouth. Why would allow students near supplies. Walking past him a bit she looked at the classroom, hoping to find something to snatch away for the moment, they wouldn't miss it, right?

"Such is life, always when you need ink the most, you run out. I will never get this bloody work done back . . . home." She hesitated, before turning to him again, frown obvious on her face now. She didn't even want to be here long, and his statements were sharp. Shoot, again.

"Not everyone has an option when it comes to clothing." She snipped softly. "I am low on clothing and we have been told that it is easier to work with what we have than use our meager savings on personal affections." It felt rehearsed. It also felt like something Mengyao would whine about. Poor noble-boy.

"Well, have you seen any teachers, then?" She tried to reason, hoping he'd be useful for something.

Poor peasant girl. It would seem she said this rehearsed, like she'd done this so many times before. He was focusing on her face and hands right now, rather than her well endowed frame. They just took him by surprise, how big they were. Certainly, it caught his interest. He was a teenage boy, how could it not? But still, she was displeased with this and he could honestly care less about it. He would be displeasing a lot of people, it seemed. Instead, he watched her look around and got off the desk to wander through the desks again. His heeled boots clicking on the floor lightly as he bent over and peered it.

"Seeing how I just got here, no. I haven't seen teachers yet. I have not even received a schedule, if you have them," his tone was now one of someone who was bored out of his mind. This was followed by a sigh as he pushed a hand through his hair and then peered into another desk, rustling through things.

"To sum up what you've said, you're poor and it's laundry day so you wear what you have at the time. I suggest doing laundry soon, or at least buy yourself some clothes that cover you up as well as ones that can be used for work. Though, I don't know what you do for a living, so perhaps you are dressed for work."

There were women who did unmentionable things for a living, he knew that. But Uller couldn't bring himself to outright call her something like that. So he just suggested at it, rather hard, too. "Who are you, anyway?"

This was like pulling teeth.

Giving a sharp frown for a split moment, she watched as he regalled her wording. Something felt off with how he was information gathering, and with soft mis-matched eyes, she watched his reactions, keeping them in tow. She wasn't poor, persay. Well . . . everyone was kind of even now when it came to the fall of the Isle, but those like Mengyao and Lan naturally would be considered more "Rich in essense", bloodline wise. Entitled, mostly. Whatever.

When he finally finished with what he thought, she paused for a moment, before eyes widened almost comically and she seized up, physically before deciding to refrain herself from doing anything drastic.

"No!" she chirped out loudly, looking to him. "Heavens above no! Not in the slightest bit. My parents would all out disowned me. Hell, my childhood friend would have. No, he would disowned me and killed me. Probably. Probably not. Maybe back when the Isle was still up." she rambled, a blush furiously burning on her face at the thought. How could this boy thinks so . . . no!

"I am an Artisan, I hail from the Lost Clan outside of the school." She said quickly, the panic almost gone but the speed of her wording still there. "I am Hua Lifen, who are you?" She piped up, wanting to know the name of someone so . . . bold!

An amused smirk played on his face as she recoiled from his words like that, spilling some pretty interesting information. Childhood friend, she says? Her face said otherwise. Ah, well, it was no interest of him, anyway. She clearly wasn't his type. It was a half pity, too, she was so pretty. With the mis-matched eyes and what not. However, when she stated she was from the Lost Clan and her name, he 'hm'ed, seeming very surprised at that.

Those odd eyes widened a bit and he tilted his head. "Glasere Uller, student here. Hua Lifen, was it? I've heard of the Lost Clan but never your name. Never an of their names, honestly. So you're one of them, hm?" He asked, tossing his hair out of his eyes with a flick of his head.

"I didn't mean to insult you. I was just asking without asking. An artisan you say? Oh, how clever. I truly admire them. I've watched them practice where I am from. Though the snow can be so tough. Have you ever trained in the snow? Cold climates? This one girl I know had to put her fingers in ice in the snow. She wasn't an arctic creature such as me, so it was torture for her. She had to learn to play the flute that way."

Oh, he was interested now. The insults were gone, and so was his belittling tone. He truly was interested in how she managed to get the rank of artisan. After all, it wasn't common to run into a Lost Clansmen in the school. At last, not to him. He was used to the mixture of monsters and demons, ghosts and undead.

"Uller?" She voiced out, her tone returning to the calm, somewhat stoic form it usually was held in, her eyes raising. It was a strange name to her, but it seemed fitting on the boy in front of her. Filing it in her mind for later, she lazily waved a hand in the air for a moment, mumbling "Lifen is fine. Everyone calls me Lifen." Almost. Mengyao had his pet names for her, and Soren really didn't say much at all.

"I prefer to stay obscure." She answered his query about not being known. She was already a topic of conversation, being Insanity infected, and did not feel like being a specific person of interest.

Scrinching her face up a little again - which made her look younger than she was, she tried to invision the determination one would have to stick their hands in the snow for an elongated time. It gave her a shiver, and she subconsciously started to rub her fingers, just at the thought.

Taking a seat in a desk near the boy, she lowered her hands in to her lap. "My training was not as extreme - I admit." She offered. He was interested, so why not. "My father did train me during our winters, but I doubt they are the same. It was harder for me, though, none of my other siblings took up Artistry, so I had a limited time to learn. I usually practiced with my father, and in the presence of my friend when he could. Did not want to bother my intellect seeking family, you konw?" It was an honest answer, and she felt a little self-conscious about being open with such a sharp-tongued boy.

So she preferred to stay out of the lime light? Someone of her beauty and assets; that was surprising to him. Though, Uller knew not everyone was as open as he was. Modesty wasn't something he knew when it came to the physical. Knowledge wise, yes, everything with him was modest. She wouldn't be able to get him to open up about home if she asked. He gave information freely when he wanted too. It was hardly ever, but it happened sometimes. Those odd black eyes watched her, entranced in her story telling. Was she trained with words too?

Her phrasing seemed deliberate, delicate. Nothing like he was used to. Story telling back home wasn't flowery, but more emotional; blood thirsty, even. Stories of newest kills and newest clothing, accessories, whatever.

Then she mentioned being the only one to take up this profession and it made him wonder how many siblings she had. Apparently they were all knowledge seekers. Teachers? Students? How fascinated he became with the Clan families now that he'd met one. He would definitely have to look into this later.

"I don't know, actually. In my family we have a diversity of professions. I take it the Clans aren't as diverse? You have set jobs for set classes?"

"I really cannot talk on behalf of the other clan houses such as Famine or War. . ." She answered, trailing a bit. "Conquest is very blood-line revolved. As I am not related to the royalty, I am a middle-caste, so there are things I am unable to do. My childhood-friend is a cousin of the king and heir, somehow, so he is high-caste, and thus, a Lord of our people." she stated, scrinching up her face, thinking of Mengyao and Invictus. They seemed pretty far apart, she had a hard time believing it when they were children, but he seemed to fill the roll well enough. Pompous boy.

"I do not regret my decision." She said, a soft smile showing on her face. "I do not think I would have done well in, say, his shoes . . ." - mainly because she was much smaller than him, but she digressed - "Being a figure of power. I am much too soft spoken, you know?"

She also found it funny as to how, for such a bold boy, he was easy to talk to when they had something in common. His tendancies of looking her over was a little off. But. . . it could be worse. Even if he was bitter-tongued.

He didn't think of himself as bitter tongued. Uller had been talking like this his whole life. He was from a good family with a long, healthy blood line. He was well known back home. Here, though, he supposed that meant nothing here. Pity, too. He wanted the respect he had back home. Though, he supposed that was one of the reasons he was enrolled here besides power control. He had been told he was too harsh sometimes? He felt too entitled to too much in the words of his father. Well, that maybe, but he wanted the easiest life possible. He wasn't quite a hard worker just yet! He rather danced through life.

"Mm.. I am very blood-line involved. Most of my kind is," he murmured, arching a brow as he listened to her. "So you, middle-caste, have noble friends? How good it must be to be you. Do they shower you with gifts?" He wasn't implying anything this time. He was rather curious to how the two castes interacted with each other. "Many-a higher classes tend to shower their lower class friends with gifts. Though, some to rub it in their faces, others to help their families out by allowing them to sell their gifts. This friend you keep talking about.. Does he give you special attention?"

Lifen found herself scrinching her face up again at his words, finding them a little crass, before shaking her head, little charms jingling softly as she thought back to her youth.

"Not in a way that you are thinking. I never saw the noble-borne parts of the cities unless there were festivals or whatnot. I just had a friend. Who was . . . " She paused, thinking of a safe word to explain it. "Better dressed. I could almost say that it was us giving him the gifts. Kind of a get-away, if you understand." She offered, thinking back to the simpler times - when her "higher classed" friend was a lot more pompous around her (and shorter.) Giving a soft chortle, she looked over the snow-borne student again, shrugging.

"Whether he did or not as a youth I would not have noticed, for I was used to his . . . antics." She strayed, before shrugging again. "But he does treat me different. We have always agreed to talk on one level, no semantics. Just be there for each other. Does that answer your question?"

She felt that he didn't need to know how much closer she had gotten to him since they had found refuge near Amityville, but it was really . . . nice to think about a younger, simpler time still. When both her eyes were red. When the worse thing was when Mengyao was having a bad day and would complain until the cows returned. Sigh.

Oh, so it was a noble playing hooky from classes and slumming it up. There was that, too, where he lived. Some part of Uller wondered if she was choosing her carefully because there was more to tell than she wanted to share with a stranger at this point. Well, if she was just going to answer all these questions, he really saw no point in not asking whatever he wanted. If she didn't want to answer, she would have found a better way to tell him to 'go away' or just to stop asking personal questions.

Still, Lifen was interesting. Sure, he struck a cord or two in her, but she wasn't annoying in the slightest bit. He found her very fascinating.

"Ah, well... It does, actually." He knew when to shut up about a certain topic. Honestly, he didn't notice anything odd about her eyes. He'd seen others with oddly colored eyes before, so why bother asking about it? Sighing a little more, he started to look in the desks.

"Now, it was ink you wanted? Perhaps we can borrow it from another student if they just happened to leave it in a desk. Right Lifen?"

Nerpin
FOILED AGAIN. Now he's just kind of 'eh' about her. Which is good in his books.

Seeing that he had caught her drift, she gave him a sincere smile, acting it up as she would normally to every other student. He was an interesting snow creature - his words were sharp, but there was a lot of interest in everything he asked. She could teach him a thing or two when he was willing to behave and listen to her.

Taking his offer, she tilted her head a little, tapping her chin with a dainty finger. "I think that should be fine - they probably go through inks like crazy here - a school and all." She offered, looking to him. "My family was of scholars, we used to have drawers filled of ink." She stated.

"Check those desks, for me, if you could?"
