Uuni was adapting well to Destiny City. The first month, the crime rate had been distinctively alarming, and she asked herself who the hell would want to live in a s**t place like that?

Answer: It was a relationship of convenience. Once you have a job, you don't want to leave; you can't leave. As thin as they might have been, she'd made contacts in the city faster than she could write their numbers down. It was a hub of activity; the news was always full of some new mess, and the streets were alive.

It gave her an excuse to be worse than she normally was.

And right now, that was currently fishing a purse out of an aqueduct ditch. The water was low, so there was not much current, but Uuni wasn't going to mess with that, no sir. People drowned in those things all the time.

So she'd found an old, thick metal wire from a construction site and had meandered down the top of the concrete ledge, waiting for the bag to get caught on something. It was approximately twenty minutes after 3pm, when she had ended her work shift. The bag was being difficult. It was caught in a twist in the current.

Uuni sat down on the edge of the aqueduct and untucked a cigarette carton she'd stored in her bra strap. That was all bras were good for, really. That, and taking off.

Her eyes went scanning. She'd seen a few roudy teenagers, a muddled mass of trash, and debated dragging someone else into the strange adventure she'd started with herself. It was a nice looking purse - it must have fallen off of a bridge where the current was faster and been carried off. Anyone smart would have canceled their cards, but maybe they'd left some money. Maybe she could buy an ice cream cone. Maybe she could return the thing and karma would shine down on her in bright halos.

Her eyes caught on a blonde, making her way down the sidewalk. Not too fancy, didn't look like she wanted to kill the world. Probably wouldn't get upset if Uuni decided to keep whatever was in the thing (provided she joined her at all). Perfect. That would kill her boredom for a few minutes, at least.

"Hey," she called out. "Think you could help a girl out?"

"Always," A wide, lopsided grin broke across a heavily freckled face, and said lanky blonde halted mid-stride to toss her cheerful, laid back disposition Uuni's way. Sauntering over, she shoved her hands into the pockets of her jacket, leaning at an almost dangerous angle over the edge of the concrete to peer down below.

"S'that your purse?" Her dark eyes flicked from the purse, to the woman, to the purse, to the rusty wire, to the woman, to the purse, to the boots on her feet, to the heels on the woman's.

Kess jumped down from the ledge into the ditch, her boots causing a splash of dirty water, and grabbed the thing, tossing it up to where the brunette stood. It was kind of gross, though.

Freckled fingers found the ledge, and she pulled herself up, swinging her legs up and over and getting to her feet. "Have a good one, yea?" A half wave of her fingers. Kess had a candy shop to get to.

Natural flirt, that one. Uuni eyed her, head slightly tilted, leaning on her knees. She tapped the metal against the old, pebbly concrete and lazily took a drag of her cigarette.

"Uhhhh," she answered, flicking her eyes to the purse. A shrug.

The moment the blonde grabbed it, Uuni instantly regretted her decision to retrieve it at all. Wrinkling her nose, she leaned to the side as it landed, spraying a circular path of brown, speckled water. She poked it.

Uuni cast a glance towards the blonde, raising an eyebrow. "Sure," she answered, relatively unconcerned.

A metal clasp clicked. She tipped it over. Water spilled back into the ditch, but there was something. A little leather wallet (if it couldn't just be called a second purse) rolled out. About three seconds after, she realized jumping into a ditch probably qualified as a good deed.

"Damn it," she murmured, and wriggled quickly onto her feet. She stayed on her toes long enough to catch up to the girl in question and then let out a huff at the ache in her feet.

"Wait a second," she said, as if explaining herself. Her fingers grazed Kess' shoulder. Not a good idea, she thought a second later, given some people around here tended to be oddly jumpy.

The purse was unclipped and unrolled. It had been wrapped so tightly, water had barely seeped in. She found a five, a handful of ones; the heaviness of the thing had been coins, not water. There were a few cards, a punched card to a coffee place (which she pocketed), and a driver's license.

"Here." She handed the girl the five. That should absolve her of any sin.

The large purse, rather worse for wear on the bottom, remained forgotten on the ditchbank. No one wanted that anyway.

Kess, of course, happened to be one of the most laid-back individuals within the city limits. Within the country. Within the world. Universe. Universes. Whatever. Homegirl was chill. Instead of leaping back, punching Uuni, or giving her some kind of incredulous look, the blonde raised her brows.

Holding up a hand, fingers splayed, palm out, she refused to take the cash. If the honey was digging in aquaducts for purses, she probably needed it a lot more than the entrepreneurial weed slinger did. "Naw, baby, that's all you."

Giving her a second, longer look, Kess' smile grew. "Are you trying to thank me? Usually a 'thank you,' does the trick, but if you can't swing that, I'll settle for a kiss."

Uuni raised both brows, five still dangling in her fingers. The slut let a few "safe" seconds pass before retracting the bill and stuffing it away.

If this girl didn't want cash, Uuni wasn't going to complain. As the blonde said, it was all hers.

And with that it was time to jump shi---

That was a big smile. Could she swing a 'thank you'? Sure. But, that second thing sounded a lot easier.

So much easier, that not a second breath of air passed. Uuni slid her hand to a freckled neck, took a hold of the seam of pants, and gave Kess a proper thank you.

"That was way more satisfying." Now she could leave, guilt-free. There was a momentary pause, as she considered whether or not to give a name. The decision culminated as a physical shrug. "Names Uuni, by the way." Uuni gave the blonde a wink. If the pat to the blonde's shoulder didn't do it, the fact that the brunette was headed the opposite direction would solidify that their brief meeting had come to a close.
