The noon sun was just rising in the sky as Falcon was returning to the Warren. It had been a beautiful morning and day so far, nice and quiet, allowing the kittens and outskirters the chance to run around outside without too much worry. The wind was blowing over the Down moving all the grass stopping Falcon in his track. He jumped into a bit of brush looking around before taking off for the Warren entrance.

He had spent the entire morning and afternoon running around the Warren barely stopping to catch his breath. The one thing he loved more than running was coming home to the Warren. It looked so pretty and safe as he approached it. Nothing mattered at the moment other than being within the safe embrace of the Warren.

He went running into the entrance without thinking about who might be coming out. There was almost no speed left in him, he was a very content and happy outskirter to have been outside for so long. As he entered the Warren he hoped no one was around, he might not be able to stop himself if there was someone too close.

At the same time as the young rabbit was streaking into the mouth of the burrow, a large, dark shape stepped out of it. Perfectly camouflaged in the warren's shadowy interior by his rich black and tan coat, the owsla buck appeared to simply materialise at the mouth of the tunnel just in time for the younger to race straight into him. only to rebound off Blackthorn's solid chest though the impact did not move the older buck at all.

Glancing down, those vivid orange eyes hiding his amusement, he watched as the youngster struggled back to his paws. "Careful there, young one." The mature buck rumbled, his tone one of authority but not at all unkind.

User ImageLax had spent his morning relaxing by the safety of his burrow. Sure, he was outside of it, but only just outside of it. Far enough away to get to the greens, but not too far as to put himself out of view of others. He liked watching over the others as he ate, especially the little ones, they could get themselves lost so easily. So, he figured it would serve the doe's well if they had an extra pair of eyes on them. Speaking of young ones, there went a kit running right past him into the borrow, his ear twitched at the sounds that came shortly after. Didn't sound good at all.

Lax hopped over carefully, then peeked in, looking to see if everyone was alright. Ah, but everything was surely fine. Blackthorn was the one that kit had run into, and that rabbit sure was a strong one. He hadn't gotten himself as acquainted to Blackthorn as he'd like in the past, but he knew enough about the buck to know that the other was part of the owsla. In Lax's mind, Blackthorn was very honorable just for that, and so already liked him.

Lax moved away from the hole, letting others depart if they need be while this issue cleared up. He didn't want to be any trouble.

User Image At the sound of the ensuing commotion, Pepper turned his head towards the opening of the warren. The fairly small male twitched his single upright ear. What in the world was going on out there?. Giving his ear another flick, Pepper headed towards the noise. If there was trouble out there, well Pepper was ready for it. Despite being blind in one eye, he did not allow it to handicap him much. Pepper himself was a bit of an outsider to the warren. A young kit during the great plague that had claimed his adoptive mother, Ivy. Pepper had been forced to grow up quickly. The young ones running around these days, had a carefree life in Peppers eyes.

Reaching the opening of the warren, Pepper found his way blocked by the larger form of an Owlsa. Blackthorn to be exact. Pepper never had many dealings with the larger male.

It took Falcon a minute to get his bearings again after bumping into the huge hidden rabbit. He couldn't see him at all, he was like perfect camouflaged for sitting in the warren's tunnels. "Sorry about that." He looked up to see Blackthorn standing in front of him looking down at him. He quickly popped up and looked over Blackthorn. He was gigantic and really strong by the look of it. Maybe he was one of the Owsla, he hadn't met one of them yet but it would be cool to talk to one.

"You are huge Mister. How did you get so big? Am I going to grow as big as you? You have a lot of scars too. Have you been in a lot of fights? How did you get all those different scars? Are they from one fight or different ones?" The whole time he was speaking he was hopping around looking at him and his scars. He made sure he was out of the way of other people or for Blackthorn to move out of the way of the tunnel.

Falcon had never met another rabbit as big as him or as scarred as him. About this time he noticed that there was a white rabbit behind him. So he hopped away from the opening a bit to allow those who wanted to get in and out could.

User ImageOxlip was one of the other youngsters that had been busy running around outside the entire morning. He had noticed Falcon rushing past a few times, and had chased after the other outskirter playfully at times. The other boy was quick on his feet, but they had never really raced so Oxlip didn't know if Falcon was quicker than him or not. Speed was important, especially for someone like Oxlip. It had been pointed out to him that Elil could easily spot and try to snatch him up due to his mostly white coat, and he had decided to learn to outrun everything out there. He'd be like El-ahrairah, swift footed and clever, and he'd trick anything he couldn't outrun.

The outskirter had also started to head home as the sun rose in the sky, but he arrived slightly later than Falcon and never saw him bump into Blackthorn. He did see the two near an entrance and hear the hrair questions, however.

Oxlip knew most of the outskirters by name, of course, and he had a fairly good grasp on the kittens too. Adults outside his immediate family were a bit harder to keep track of in the large warren, but he knew this large black male. Or... well... knew of at least. This was Blackthorn, and since he was owsla he figured it was kind of important to know of him. Rank was important to the youngster, perhaps because he wasn't high in rank at all. He couldn't wait growing up enough to be able to establish himself in the hierarchy.

Ironically, he hadn't really dared to approach and talk to any of the owsla just yet. He perked his ears, wondering if Blackthorn would answer the questions or just smack Falcon for asking them. Both outcomes would be interesting.

As the youngster who had run into him sorted himself out, Blackthorn allowed a slight smile to cross his expression. He could remember his own outskirter days, though they were growing ever more fuzzy and distant, and he wondered if he had ever talked quite as much as this young rabbit was doing. Guessing the answer was probably no as the youth rabbited on, pardon the pun, he finally let the smile grow, having always had a soft spot for the youths of the warren.

"Just be a little more careful when you head to home yes?" he prompted gently, before chuckling to himself at the barrage of queries over his appearance. He had not thought himself that large, but he supposed to any outskirter he was going to seem rather big, for certainly he was strong and muscular, a requirement for his job. "If you eat your greens like your marli tells you, I am sure you will grow as big as me." Shaking his head a little in wonderment at the rapid pace of the youngster's speech he tried to answer as best he could. "I have been protecting the warren a long time, so yes.. there have been many fights. The scars come from the times I nearly didn't win." His tone was somber, as he did not wish to instill a desire to get into fights in the young rabbit before him. Defending others and looking for trouble were two very separate things, and he was careful never to unintentionally encourage undesired behavior in the younger generations.

Pausing as he felt another adult approach from behind him he smiled at the youth in front before carefully slipping past Falcon and stepping outside the tunnel so as to clear the way for Pepper. Blackthorn recognized the younger buck and nodded to him as he passed, expression polite if a little distant. As an owsla Blackthorn didn't socialize as much with older rabbits outside of his job and often didn't know quite what to say to those nearer his own age. He just was not very good at small talk he supposed.

"Greetings Pepper, Lax." He offered with a nod to each male as another lingering buck caught his eye. As an owsla he made it his business to at least know everyone by sight and name, even if he never really had the chance to speak to them. It was almost required to know who everyone was, not only for the warren's security, but so one could call out a rabbit by name in an emergency. Have you ever tried to yell 'you with the white spots and one floppy ear!' during an elil attack? It was not the speediest of methods to gain a certain rabbit's attention by any means.

As it seemed he had caused something of a blockade in the mouth of the burrow he hopped a few paces further outside so he was off to one side and not holding anyone up, though he was happy to answer more of the young Falcon's questions if there were more to come.

Firefly was not half as energetic or as crazy as her brother and had watched Oxlip hare round the down from the relative calm of the beach hanger. The young doe was not scared to go exploring, but she did not seem to possess the sheer amount of energy that some of her siblings did. being a fairly level headed and calm rabbit for her age she was a thinker before a doer. Though of course she could be as wild as any outskirter her episodes were fewer than some.

Having been sat nibbling on the young grass shoots near the warren's entrance, she had a perfect view of the sudden gathering that happened when an outskirter she didn't know ran into a big black owsla buck.. one she had seen moving around the down but had not yet managed to talk to. Not that she sought out owsla to bother, but as she one day hoped to join their ranks, she did take note of them when she saw them on patron or just sitting near the warren. Many older rabbits had told her she was the spitting image of her father and knowing that he had wanted to join the owsla before his untimely death at the jaws of a farm dog, she had taken on his wish as her own from a very early age. She idolized her parli even though he had died just before she and her siblings had been born. He had seemed a wonderful buck in the tales she had been told and if she could live up to his memory, she would consider her life successful. So as the unknown youngster started to plague the owsla buck with questions, she sat up and listened attentively.

He bounced around a bit as Blackthorn stepped out of the tunnel letting the white rabbit out. He was sort of big too and also had a scar. He would have to ask him about that scar later. "So what were you defending the warren against when you got those scars? Were they big and mean? Have you ever had to fight another rabbit from this warren or another? Do you fight because you aren't fast enough to out run them and lead them away from the warren? Will the greens make me too big to be fast?"

He thought about it for a minute, "I really like to run, I don't know if I want to be too big if it will slow me down. Do you think it would slow me down? Has any rabbit really been able to out run and elil?" He noticed he was starting to draw a crowd but that didn't bother him too much. He hadn't had much time or ability to talk to a Owsla before and wanted to take advantage of it. This one also seemed really nice and willing to talk.

He knew sometimes he rambled on and talked a lot. He was constantly scolded for being too energetic and needing to calm down. He didn't mind having lots of energy, it just meant he could run longer and faster. He hadn't met many other outskirters so he didn't know if any of them also liked running as much as he did or were as fast. He would have to find out sometime.

Oxlip mentally marked Blackthorn down as one of the nice owlsa. Some of them wouldn't bother to talk to outskirters other than barking at them to stay in line. And he'd heard that there were owsla who would beat up small troublemakers for sport. It might have been exaggeration from some outskirters with too active imaginations, but Oxlip wasn't going to take any chances.

"I don't want scars," he said quietly to no one in particular, "that means someone got too close..."

Falcon sure was talking quicklly, and Oxlip wondered if one of the adult would tell him to shut up. But it was kind of convenient... If the brown youngster asked questions, he could hear the answers... And no one would scold him for talking too much or asking questions. It seemed the young buck was really passionate about running, and Oxlip saw an opportunity to test his mettle against another speed lover. He sidled closer to the brown outskirter.

"We should race sometimes, Falcon," he said, "I like to run too."
