 Located in Woodridge, near Serenade Park, is Lock Lake, a beautiful body of water where plants and animals seem to respond to marvelously. It's a very romantic spot, so teachers walk by now and then when they notice missing students.

 Aliana sighed as she and Fortunado reached the lake. It was always so peaceful, and at this time of night, almost no one was there. Taking his hand once more, she lead him down a path, then through a few trees, until she finally stopped in a small, secluded area covered by weeping willows. She was ositive they wouldn't be disturbed. Turning to him, Aliana blushed for the first time since she'd kissed Miss Fortune. "You probably don't remember, but this is one of the places that you and I found while we were exploring. It looks like no one has been here since we were ten years ago." She released him to look at the bark of the tree closest to the water, then straightened and smiled. "Oh my, look at this! It's our initials! I forgot you carved these..."

Fortunado Kenzington Fortunado silently followed and looked at the spot. He could remember him and Aliana running around when they were children, he would pick daisies for her and she would giggle and be pretty as always. And now, ten years later, here they were, about to have sex. He shuffled to her side and inspected the tree, smiling a little at the memories. "Oh yeah... That was the first time I proclaimed my love for you." he chuckled.

"You've always felt the need to tell me that," she said, looking out at the water. "If I remember correctly, you even told me on the day we met that you loved me and that I was going to be the girl you'd marry." With a small giggle, she wrapped her arms around her waist, watching the water move around and muddle the moon's reflection. "I'm pretty sure my answer included throwing you into a pond."

Fortunado nodded with a light chuckle and sat on the grass, staring at the moon's reflection. "A fell near a group of ducks and got pecked at until my dad had to pull me out." he said then grinned at her. "But you know, I never heard a 'no'."

"That's because I was frightened that I might regret saying it," she said softly. Aliana moved to kneel in front of him, leaning forward and setting her hands on his shoulders. "I was always frightened of you, Fortunado. You're the only person who's ever been able to...well, get past the walls I've put up since The Incident."

Hearing her mention that one part of her past, be it just a title, Fortunado's face softened. "That's because I never cared about anyone more than you, Aliana." he said gently, leaning in closer.

"But why?" she asked, her eyes shining with the pain of her past. "Why would you bother with a broken girl like me? I have nothing to offer you, Fortunado."

"I don't really know." he confessed and looked off at the lake as if it would somehow reveal to him the answer. Instead all he saw was a flashback of when they were kids, him running over to tell her that she'd be his wife some day and her pushing him into the water. "When I first met you, you looked so sad... but at the same time so breathtakingly beautiful." He suddenly looked at her. "Do you believe in love at first sight?"

"No," she answered without hesitation. "But," she said softer, sliding her fingers into his hair and leaning closer, "I do believe in taking a deeper look." Her lips pressed against his, trembling.

Fortunado pursed his lips, not at all hearing the answer he wanted, but it changed as she changed her own answer. He felt her lips against him, saw it too, but couldn't quite believe it. His eyes closed as he kissed back, his arms going around her waist to hold her close and keep her from shaking, but he wasn't sure if it was really her and not him.

Her lips moved steadily against his, her shy tongue peeking out and tracing his bottom lip. In her mind, she could hardly believe what was happening. She was kissing the boy she hated! What's more, they were going to...make love? No, it was sex. Just sex. Nothing else.

He opened his mouth and let his tongue press against hers while leaning a little closer, one hand managing to grab at the ground for purchase. But before anything could escalate further, he pulled away only briefly. "Are you sure you want to do this?" he asked in barely a whisper, opening his eyes only by a little.

Aliana nodded, licking her lips. "I've never wanted anything more in my life," she said truthfully.

Nodding in return, Fortunado leaned back in and kissed her, one hand resting at the small of her back to help ease her to the soft grass. His kissed her tenderly, moving his lips in sync with her while his hand slid from her side to a pocket of his pants. He half-knew this was coming, and never had he been so glad to be smart. Breaking the kiss to sit up, Fortunado set to work on unbuttoning his shirt while pulling out the protection.
~~~
Fortunado gazed at the stars that sparkled beneath them, listened to the crickets chirping and the owls hooting. This should've been incredible, he should've been ecstatic. He had just lost his virginity to the very girl he saved it for. But it wasn't at all how he expected. It was good, yeah, but... He didn't feel anything. It was as if she still had a barrier up, as if she thought of him as someone else even.
