Hunter
+Independent
Jess has always had a fairly independent streak. Perhaps it was the way her older twin Tuck always seemed to hover, looking out for her like she was some damsel in distress; a fact she grudgingly appreciated but alway sought ways to circumvent. Or maybe it was because the things she saw made her feel separate from the other boys and girls. Whatever the case, Jess is just as happy working alone as with others, and in recent years has learned to be fairly self-reliant. She didn't want to be a strain on her folks - especially not after he disappeared.
+Decisive
Jess was never a girl to agonize endlessly over tough calls. If a decision was to be made, she'd make it, and stand by it regardless of what came to pass. She has always been pretty good at thinking on her feet. She is very goal oriented and is good at breaking down tasks one problem to the next- although her unrealistic expectations of herself ofter make things harder to achieve. Nevertheless, she remains tenacious and single-minded in her resolve. This do-or-die attitude often is the one thing that helped her in life - wether it be paying bills, playing a good ball game or passing classes.
+Honest
Never a good liar, Jess has always stood by the idea that honesty is the best policy. Even when it's uncomfortable - or perhaps, especially when it's uncomfortable. That niggling feeling you get in your gut that says you should probably leave things out, in her opinion, is just a sign that you've got a lot to account for. She doesn't cheat, or steal. She's very genuine, and rarely hides her opinions or moods; her heart is most often on her sleeve.
-Overconfident
Jess's do-or-die mentality often gets her in trouble, especially when she tackles a problem that is beyond her ability. She often sets unrealistic goals or takes on too many tasks at once. Her eyes are very definitely bigger than her ability to deal. This is most apparent in her day to day life, as she attempts to balance her responsibilities. She is the type to swagger headfirst into a situation and attempt to tackle adversaries that are well beyond the scope of her capabilities. This oversight has caused problems with school, hence her less than perfect grades as she struggles with classes that are a touch too difficult and a work schedule that is often more demanding than she'd care to admit.
-Meddlesome
Despite difficultly handing her own affairs, Jess is more than ready to insert herself in those of others'. She is wont to give her opinion regardless of whether or not it is wanted. Jess knows best, after all, right? She is nosy to a fault, somewhat bossy, and often very disdainful of others' very real issues. She is certain that, given time, she can solve any problem, and can easily be likened to a bull in a china closet especially when dealing with more private or delicate affairs. She just can't seem to help herself; she WANTS to make things better and is certain that she knows best- but whether or not she actually does is often best left unasked.
-Erratic
Jess is always busy doing something - and often things she shouldn't. Her overconfidence, independence and meddlesome ways often have her off on adventures that are as unpredictable as they are unexpected. "Live a little" is certainly a motto she takes to heart, and when she fails to achieve her more unrealistic goals she simply sets new ones. She has a tendency to be a jack of all trades, master of none, as she lacks the focus or attention to detail required to complete tasks. She can change her mind in the blink of an eye, and with as little reasoning - often to the frustration of her parents.
Weapon
+Calculating
Unlike his wielder, Edward is a very careful sort of fellow. His actions are often the result of carefully planned, thought out moves - he is slow to speak but quick to listen, tending to err on the side of caution. He trusts reason and logic over gut instinct, preferring to have back up plans of his back up plans before making a move.
+Orderly
Ed is meticulously organized, both in his reasoning, thought process and in the way he deals with others. He tends to prioritize problems and people, dealing with them in order of importance and urgency; an approach that is sound but doesn't leave a lot of room for error or oversight. However, it DOES lend itself very well to a logical and orderly manner of thinking, making it easy for him to compartmentalize and handle larger problems rather than be overwhelmed by the scope.
+Calm
As a former knight, Ned has seen a lot of things. His world experience, both in life and undeath, has left him a very calm soul. It takes a lot to stir his ire, and he prefers to approach tasks evenly and efficiently. His orderliness and his critical thinking skills often pay out in the long run in the form of a solid, unified front. He doesn't panic or shy away, but instead breaks things down into manageable chunks. After all, panicking in a battle generally leaves you dead or dying.
-Cruel
Something in Ed's past, whether in the life he doesn't remember or the undeath he also barely recollects, has left him with a mean streak a mile wide. He may take such actions in the name of efficiency, but to those under his less than gentle ministrations he is cold and ruthless. Sadistic to a fault, he seems to enjoy causing pain and suffering in others, even those he is sworn to work with or protect. Something about watching them squirm gives him a deep kind of satisfaction.
-Callous
Edward has little regard for the wellbeing of others. He is as hard and heartless as the steely logic he prefers; he considers acknowledging weakness the highest kind of foolery, and is unafraid to use every advantage against an opponent, no matter how unseemly. He has no time for the invalid or the merciful. Mercy gets you killed, and he doesn't suffer fools.
-Obsessive
Edward's meticulousness borders on the obsessive. He likes to organize things and people into categories; patterns and their variants, and can often get caught up in the details. His drive to inflict pain and misery is very nearly a compulsion, as is his need to see the world through a lens of reason and logic and rational thinking. Things that deviate from what he considers to be the best route often infuriate him. Everyone has a set part to play, and those that stray from this clean-cut viewpoint can often drive him to distraction.
Why did your human character choose to become a Hunter?
After Tuck disappeared, Jess did her best to fill his shoes. She attended the same college, played softball, worked part time and had her own tiny apartment. She missed him dearly but kept faith that he'd come back to them, even after their parents had given him up for dead. After all, she'd know if something happened to him, she was sure of it. Everything was going well, or as well as could be expected; her grades were reasonably above average, she made enough to keep food on the table without having to fall back on her parent's support, and the team had made it to regionals.
It didn't take long for all that to change.
It had started with little things - letters from family members and even notes her parents left at her little studio abode went missing. Next was family photos; her address book, food. She finally contacted the police after one harrowing experience - she could see a tall, shadowed figure looming outside her bedroom window late one night. She at first assumed it was a stalker, hard to believe in their sleepy Idaho town, but not impossible. She moved to a new building and changed her locks, and things seemed to resume some kind of normalcy. She didn't want anyone to worry- she could handle it. She had to handle it, because, well.
She was fairly certain whatever it was, it wasn't human.
Late night phone calls where the dialer hung up, shadowy apparitions that formed in the corners of her vision - voices that whispered to her in the space between sleeping and wakefulness. It didn't take long before she began visiting the school counselor. She lied- said the stress from work and the pressure at school was giving her insomnia. She started taking over the counter sleeping pills - and stopped when she'd wake up, still paralyzed from sleep, to the sight of pale, long-limbed figures standing silent over her bed.
The final straw came not long after that, on one blustery evening. She'd come home to the strangest and probably the most frightening of any manifestation she'd ever witnessed. Her door was open, unlocked, and the entire studio had been... reorganized. All of the furniture was flipped over, including the bed, end tables - the drawers from the kitchen cabinets had been upended and left on the floor. Jess called the cops, but nothing had been stolen, and so they left empty handed.
All except one.
He'd identified himself as a PI, but seemed to have an unusual amount of insight into what'd been happening to Nat- almost as if he'd known her her entire life. She was suspicious at first, but as the pieces began to fall into place, he made her an offer. An offer to fight back, to protect the ones she loved. An offer she couldn't refuse.
There had only been one piece of evidence left from the break-in. A photo of Jess with her folks, left amdist the chaotic mess of forks and knives and other kitchen paraphernalia left behind from the upended cabinetry. A photo she hadn't seen since the first night things went missing in her old apartment, what felt like ages ago. Scratched into it's surface, black as pitch and with the appearance of being burned in were the words, "I am coming."
Weapon Ability
Gambler's Chance - When fully charged, Ed has the ability to do an incredible amount of damage - both to his wielder and occasionally the opponent. The move is surprisingly unpredictable for such a methodical fellow, but perhaps makes more sense in light the chaotic jumble that is his relationship with his unseemly and erratic partner.
