M o n s t e r M e m o i r s+++++++++++++++++++++++++The Story of the Horned OnesThe discovery of the Horned species was an accident- a terrible accident. It began in a delivery room where
a child was born, a girl with fuzzy pink hair and two bony protrusions in the top of her skull. The parents,
unsure of what horrific mutation happened to their daughter, were unable to keep the child, giving it up
to science.
Many years passed and many evaluations were performed on the child while more of these children, named
the Diclonius species due to the two horns, were still born. The scientists found that the child often acted
just as if she were human but possessed an inhuman amount of strength and something else much more
sinister.
In tests the scientists discovered that the child had somehow developed invisible arms they classified as
"vectors". These extra arms were undetectable with the naked eye and when they cross-referenced with the
other Diclonii children they found that the number of vectors and the length of them varied from child to child.
In other analyses they also encountered high levels of aggression when the children were provoked. Brain
scans and oral exams showed that each child had somewhat of a split personality. One part of the child
was the "human" part, who they would be if they weren't Diclonii. The other personality was their Diclonius
self which was highly aggressive and violent to the point where some scientists even lost their lives
by getting too close.
Over the years it was shown that after the first wave of random Diclonius births, the Diclonius "virus" could
be transmitted by having a Diclonius' vector touch a male who would then be infected for life and pass it on to
his child. Other than by use of their vectors, Diclonius were unable to reproduce, needing a pair of human
hosts. Scientists theorized that the next step in Diclonius evolution would be the ability to reproduce A-sexually.
For some unknown reason it seemed that very few Diclonius were male. Many didn't survive and those that
did had the signature horns of the species, albeit on a much smaller scale, yet lacked the extra strength, split
personality and vectors the females had.
The story of the Diclonius is kept among a key group of scientists who perform tests on the species. It is
common for children who are born with the Diclonius gene to be taken from their parents in order to keep the
mutation of the species a secret and learn more about them in order to combat their violent nature. Generally
parents are eager to give their child away, unsure of how they would care for the unique beings and thinking it
easier to give them up to those who want them.
Sometimes, though, parents are so overjoyed to have a child that they hide their child's differences and raise
them. Often, when the child grows up, the parents are unable to deal with their split personalities and
aggression. Some make it through their child's violence while others aren't so lucky. There have been
instances of Diclonii children murdering their parents or civilians and being taken into custody, eventually
being turned over to the science group.
