The cool early morning air was a welcomed sign for the rest of the day. It would hopefully be enough to break the heat that had been invading the forest as of late. Still, Serenity could say she was not yet ready for winter. Even protected as her ‘home’ was, she disliked the cold. But this…this was nice.
Slowly walking her waking body from the cover of the dense tree line, the Arcturus made her way towards the clear lake that flowed through this area. Each set more graceful than the next as she moved her tail back and forth. Small creeks that were the life veins joined here much like a the heart of the body making it an ideal location in the mare’s mind. She was alone out there. A single member of her species working the lay of the land but that never bothered Serenity. It was peace and it was welcomed.
As she came to the water’s edge, she gazed down at her own reflection. ”Truly beautiful.” Her words were like silk as she lowered to drink.

It was the chill in the morning air that brought Rhaegar from his slumber, violet eyes opening reluctantly, legs slowly unfolding and lifting him from the dewy grass. The world slowly came into focus, assuring him that he was alone in this part of the forest, that he wouldn't be disturbed so shortly after waking. The sky above had only just been stained by the sun's rays, a gradient from the palest yellow to a dusky blue along the western horizon. The red webbing of his wings quivered as he stretched his limbs and steadily roused himself. If anything, the cold was only a threat that bound his muscles and pumped his blood at a pitifully sluggish pace through his veins; he would do poorly travelling in these conditions, without the sun's warmth to inspire his enthusiasm. With nothing rousing him skyward, Rhaegar shook out his wings and folded them neatly against his sides, plodding along the damp ground, back to the rising sun.
The sun had risen once he had reached water, but the chill had yet to draw back from the dense, tree-covered landscape. It was in the process of following a babbling brook that Rhaegar became acutely aware of another presence in the surrounding area, ears pricking forward and demeanor growing sour. This certainly was not what he had been expecting, wandering through such a thick forest; such places were not safe for some predators, the weaker sort aside.
He was much higher on a hill than she, staring down with a hard, critical gaze. With an ethereal quality that more properly befit a misty morning, the mare made her way carefully to the edge of the lake. Her words were too quiet to hear, but he was certain that her mouth was moving. With the slightest movement of his wings, he pulled his dark cloak to cover more of his pallor hide, the better to blend with the shadows as he crept toward the female. There was a pull of curiosity toward her -a mare, lurking alone so deep in the woods- that he was unsure of, yet he had no doubts that he was much more dangerous, with nothing to worry about were she to lash out at him. As he approached the lake from a nearby angle, he narrowed his violet eyes judgmentally, looking over her misty blue body once more. He felt that there was something to be gained here, something that would affect him distinctly; there was simply no resisting a pull like that.

Each move of her muzzle over the water’s surface woke the stiff joints in her face. It would not be good to become tongue tied should she come across another being. A lady should be able to speak clearly and make sure any creature understood her meaning, especially any men that dared cross her path. The thought of that gender made her choke slightly.
As she picked up her head and gazed down at the rippling water, Serenity had to smile again. It wasn’t that she hated stallions. Oh no. They had their uses of course but there were far too many in this world that needed to understand their place.
As the lake stilled, Serenity lowered her head once more. The water was clear, cool, and refreshing. Perfect for a new day and it was also the reason she had stayed closed to this spot. While she wondered what kept this lake full, Serenity had to admit that she worried about forgetting the location. Her memory was sharp but her sense of direction was something she would not wish on anyone.
Or would she?
Only inches from the surface of the lake, Serenity’s purple eyes shot to her left. She might not be a predator trained in the ways of the hunt but she could tell when two eyes were watching. And they were on her.
Serenity scanned the wood lines quickly without picking her head up. That would just alert whatever it was that she knew it was there. Only once she had made the full radius with her eyes did she mare raise her head and glance in the direction the pull felt strongest. That was when she saw him.
White like the snow and covered with red markings. Yet her eyes went to his head and back at the spikes that covered his body. He was unlike any other she had seen there and in her being, something told her to run. That this male was danger.
When did she ever listen to that?
”You!” Serenity called out stepping one hoof in his direction. ”You were watching me just now weren’t you?” Her head shook slightly as she eyed him hard in the face. “Not only is it rude to stare but it’s rude to scare to life out of someone you don’t even know! Have you not a considerate bone in that winged body of yours?”

It wasn't that Rhaegar hadn't wanted the female to notice him. Quite the opposite, in fact, as he wouldn't have been so bold as to come from the cover of the trees while still anticipating the benefit of invisibility. Though he may have intended that her attention fall to him, he had not thought far enough ahead to know how he wished that she would respond. In fact, it was not until she rounded on him that he even realized that there was the possibility that she would not be happy with the demonic-looking creature who crawled from beneath the shrubbery after watching her unannounced. Whyever he thought that would go along swimmingly is unclear, but it was a sure sign that his ego was starting to grow out of check.
"You!" she snapped first, and he halted in his place, tail flicking once with the slightest hint of aggression. Rhaegar's eyes stayed strong, kept themselves locked on her pale form without revealing the surprise that he felt at her reprimanding. "You were watching me just now, weren't you?"
Sensing that her question wasn't one that beckoned an answer, the Solara didn't speak, instead staying silent and still as he watched her speak, breeze rustling the cloak that draped his shoulders. "Not only is it rude to stare, but it's rude to scare the life out of someone you don't even know! Have you not a considerate bone in that winged body of your's?" The silence settled in once more when she finished speaking, the last note of her lecture echoing off into the trees around them, swallowed instantly by the softness of the forest. For a moment, those violet eyes flicked to the edge of the trees, where the comforting cloak of darkness called to him, but the thought was dashed as he met her eyes with his of the same shade, stepping closer to sharpen the vast difference between their sizes.
"If I truly did succeed in scaring the life from you, m'lady, then perhaps you should rethink greeting me in such an unfriendly fashion." The grin that pulled up the corners of his mouth was a wicked one, though small. "As I would have little trouble stealing the life from you in much less passive ways." A threat though it may have been, there was a charm in his words, a charismatic pull from the way that he spoke, as though he had once been the captivating sort, romancing commoners and winning admiration from all those he sought an audience with.
"Know me, then," he spoke, one leg stretching before the other as he bowed deeply, keeping his pale purple eyes on her throughout the motion. "I am Rhaegar, son of Aerys. Might a lady be polite enough to offer her own name?"

His movements surprised her at first but her overall outlook never changed. Serenity would never let someone see her scared. That would be the first sign of weakness and the first moment they knew they might have the upper hand. Yet it was a touch harder than she expected when she realized the eyes that matched her own were nearly above her head. This stallion was unlike others she had met. He had size…mass…well he was just well build.
Yet it was the tone in his words that caused her to snap back to reality and herself. His threat on her life made Serenity’s blood boil. Even with that sing-song charm in his voice the mare only wanted to smack his face hard with her horn. No one stole from her.
”In most cases I would be willing to grant a name so they might remember me but here, I have to wonder why I would grace you with such a gift?” Her head leaned to the side, eyes still locked on his refusing to back down.
She allowed a moment of silence to pass as a butterfly went between them before Serenity gave a sigh. ”But because I have a soul, I am called Serenity. My heritage of no importance.” He needed not know that…not now…not ever. She would never admit her father. He did not deserve her respect or such honor…
”Now what has brought you here? I have not seen you in this land before.
