Nuru was shuffling down the demon dorms, pasting posters to every door in his path. Eventually that path led to Danny's door and he sloppily slathered screement glue all over it before riffling around in his bag for another poster.
He held his handiwork up admiringly to be sure it did in fact look like Zar still before attempting to apply it.

Danny was coming back from yet another round of asking people around town if they'd seen a short, bubbly mermaid, a greenish, tall mantis, or a friendly, maroon-haired ghoul. Still nothing. It was beginning to seem hopeless. She wouldn't give up though. Amphi wouldn't give up on Danny, so the fire demonness was going to do the same.
She noticed a strange dog boil gluing something to her door. Wait hadn't she met this one before? Ohh, she'd pet his ears before in Sex Ed that one time ... then he'd switched partners. Not that Danny particularly minded. She just didn't know much about the boil.
He seemed pretty focused, admiring whatever it was on the door. As Danny closed in, she saw it was some kind of ... stick figure with a a bunch of squiggles coming out of his head? What in the world was that supposed to be?
"What's that doggy?" Danny said tiredly, but still with that tilt of obnoxious happiness. She'd been out searching for a good chunk of the day, so squiggles and lines were pretty much all she could interpret right now.

"Ah-ahm not a...," Nuru sighed defeatedly. What was the point in arguing, "Et's my boilfriend - have you seen him?" his glowing red eyes seemed to grow slightly as a pout grew to his lips.
He'd recognized her too, how could he forget? It was... just not that important right now that the ghoul had tried to grab his ear in the past. At least he was content in the fact her mission failed in that respect. Not that it was why he shunned her as a partner. He was pretty... lost without that boil on the poster. Lost and confused.

"Oh um ... no," Danny said, putting a hand on her neck. She hadn't seen anyone that looked like that, but then ... she couldn't really figure out what that was. Still, it was the truth. Danny hadn't clicked that Zar was missing- she just figured Nuru was looking for him in the casual way.
Wait, something wasn't right though. "Why are you putting his picture on my dorm?" Her face went a little red and she said, "Oh uh I already have a boilfriend! I'm not interested ... sorry ..." Awwwwkward.

"Uhm... no...," he gestured at all the dorm rooms leading up to hers - all of them had posters, "He's missin', ah cant find him. His scent's gone cold and everehthin'..." he didn't understand where the confusion came from. In his mind his picture was spot on. He even included the tie!
"Ah mean. You know Zah? He was mah partnah in that class we took."

Danny's eyes went wide. Oh no. No no no. Another one missing.
Zar? Danny hadn't heard of the boil. She'd actually met him a few times, but never gotten his name, so it didn't mean much for her. Still, nobody deserved to be captured by hunters. Nobody.
Without even asking, Danny pulled Nuru into a tight hug. "Oh Nuru. I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry." Her lips were pulled tight in a frown. No one should've had to go through what Danny THOUGHT Nuru was experiencing.

Nuru was very confused by the hug, even more confused by her sorries. Did this mean she knew where he was and that it was very very bad?
"What do you know? Is he okeh?" the look he gave her startled and fearful. He did not immediately pull from the hug in case she confirmed any sort of need for it.

Danny pulled away from the hug, but kept her hands on his shoulders, just in case. "Were you ... not underground?" Danny said softly. Maybe Nuru hadn't seen hunters before? It seemed bizarre, but Danny realized there were probably students who still believed hunters were a scary story parents told their children to make them behave.
"If I'm right ... he's been taken by hunters." She took a moment to let the information sink in. She wasn't sure how Nuru would react to it- he might not even know what they were.
Danny knew first hand they were real though. She'd been killed by them on more than one occassion. It was only through dissipation that she even really remained alive now.

"Ah was but...," he looked so worried now, hunters must be amazingly stealthy, he hadn't seen any - at least not based on the description he had been given of them.
"Augh! Huntahs! What do they want with him?!" Nuru was all kinds of sad now. All kinds.

Danny hated having to tell him this. When had she gone from the innocent fire demon who didn't know what a hunter was, to the knowledgeable one that had to break bad news to people? She didn't like this. She didn't like this at all. She hated being in power- not like this.
"I ... Nuru ..." She wasn't sure how to say this. "When I was captured they ... made me answer questions ... and then they ... well I didn't come back." Danny didn't have the heart to say they'd killed her, but her words revealed the intent. "I was lucky it was just an illusion."
Even now, her had was coming up to the spot where her bullet wound would be. "But ... we're looking for them. Amphi, Yin, Mei, your-" Her eyes flicked to the poster, "Zar. We'll find them." Her face twisted up. Danny had a really hard time lying to people. Especially when it came to things like this.
She pulled Nuru back into a hug. For how much she was hurting, nothing would compare if she'd lost her own boilfriend or Roch. She'd beat herself up later. Right now, Nuru was the one who needed comforted.

"If you're dead then-- oh... an illusion? ... ," he gave her such a confused look, "Soooo... it didn't happen, then?" confused looks persisted through being hugged. At least this meant some hope. Illusions were not facts. There was still something he could do.
"Where are we lookin'? Ah can smell Zah's scent a mile off - provided et's fresh."

Danny took a deep breath and said, "Mine didn't, but ... Zar's definitely gone. I was there when the hunters attack. It wasn't an illusion." She bit her lip. No, Amphi was definitely gone.
Nuru brought up the part that hurt the most. Danny slowly shook her head and said, "I- I don't know. None of us do. Roch and I- we've been looking all over town, and nobody's heard anything."
She gave a frustrated sigh, running a hand through her hair. There was ... one option. It was too dangerous. Danny bit her lip again. If she told Nuru, he'd probably chase it. That risked him getting caught too. "There's one thing. I can ... tell you a possible lead, but you can't go after it. It's not safe, but I think you should know about it."

Nuru was starting to look hopeless until... a lead? His tail thumped softly against Danny's side, "Oh? Do tell?"

Danny shook her head. "No. Nuru I mean it. You can't jacking do this."
Crap, well now she'd brought it up. Danny wouldn't leave him hanging. "The underground. The hunters got in there somehow, so there must be a way back to them." She put a hand on her head. Honestly, she'd been thinking about approaching the underground too, she was that desperate. However, even Danny knew it wasn't worth the risk. Wasn't worth the possible pain.
She pursed her lips, letting out a frustrated breath of air and said, "But I've been down there twice." She failed to mention one time she went as May, but that didn't matter. "I didn't seen an entrance, nothing. Nuru just ... please don't go down there."

"Ah made no promises, Zah is the onleh reason ah even bothah, okeh? Ah can't just... let him go like that. Ah will promise that ah'll keep looking around here for a bit, though. Just in case. No sense rushin' off if he's just... beaten up by a bulleh an stuffed in a lockah oa somethin', yanno?"
He smiled at Danny, "Et's okeh. Ah'll be fine annehweh, I'll even send ya friends back too if ah succeeds. Save um alllll~"
