Hello mina-san! ^_^ heart I've been noticing a lot of users joining here who don't know what Yaoi or yuri is, so I thought I should make a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) Thread. ^-^ It's a Dictionary of little helpful Online/Otaku terms that should help a lot of people. whee Oh, and you guys are allowed to post popular terms that you think are very helpful as well. 3nodding Just remember- Keep it clean, and no cursing. Side-Note: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YAOI OR YURI IS TO BE APART OF THE GUILD!!!! It is absolutely okay if you don't know a lot of these terms, so don't worry. 3nodding
The Terms
Yaoi- Popular term used for Male/Male relations in Anime/Manga. Yaoi is mostly meant for purposes of more Sexual scenes in a Series. Usually over PG-13.
Yuri- The oposite of Yaoi, a popular term used for Female/Female relationships in Anime/Manga.
Shounen-ai- Boy love. Won't have sex scenes, may have hugging or kissing but that's it.
Shoujo-ai- Girl love. Cute romance, no sex scenes.
Seme- Top. Semes are dominant possesive in Yaoi relationships.
Uke- bottom. In general ukes are more passive, emotional, often emotionally resembling a girl (sometimes physically ^_~).
Threesome- Three people are involved together.
BL- This is how the Japanese say 'Yaoi' or 'Shounen-ai'. It's also more polite to use this term as well (In Japan, Yaoi is considered a rude word and looked down upon).
BL Game- Video Games, often PC Games, involving BL/Yaoi. These are very popular in Japan.
Bondage- Sex/Taunting involving Whips and Chains, Japanese Bondage is very specific.
