Jett was not the most romantic person in the world, but every now and then he had his moments. The actions were there, but not always the sentiments. He could play up the charm, speak sweet words, flash a smile to make you melt—but it was very rarely that he ever had any sentiment behind anything.

Perhaps Raven had noticed he wasn’t the best with emotions and was just letting it slide, or perhaps she was ignorant and just liked having a boyfriend.

Jett never really asked. Not when it meant admitting he had some sort of weakness.

His mother had a meeting at the office and wouldn’t be back until late, which made tonight the perfect opportunity to invite Raven over.

While Jett did not like to cook, his mother had taught him how to read and follow recipes, and Jett enjoyed the spotlight enough that he suffered through a brief labor over the stove to prepare a meal. Not that he didn’t stop by the grocery store to snag a few pre-prepared sides.

The weather wasn’t the best; thunder cracked first when he had just finished setting the table, though Raven was already on her way over. He shrugged it off as being unimportant; if the weather got too bad, there was always the option of inviting her to spend the night—or if she was particularly opposed she could just power up, mirror walk home, then come back for her car when the weather cleared up.

When thunder crackled again while he went to go check on the chicken in the oven, he was glad he’d already pulled out most of the candles just in case the storm decided to turn particularly sour.

Raven made it to the house just as the rain began to really fall. She let out a curse and ran up to Jett’s door, letting herself in after a moment of knocking. The blonde sighed, pleased and grumpy at the same time. She could have been in worse weather, that was for sure, but she still should have gotten here before it rained. At least she wouldn’t look like a complete waif tonight.

The blonde made her way to the kitchen and gave an appreciative sniff. “Smells good, Jett. Is your mom hiding around here somewhere, or did you seriously make this all by yourself?”

She grinned, looking around. The table was set so nicely and she shook her head. “You really went all out for this, huh? I’m impressed, I’ll admit.” She hadn’t thought Jett had it in him, doing something romantic like this, and actually cooking! She had honestly been expecting him to have ordered a pizza and called her over for something like that. Not a fancy dinner.

A grin slipped onto Jett's face. "Only the best for you, Raven, don't you know. And mom's still at the office, but if you want to check under all the beds while I finish setting up the table, feel free to. Do you need a towel or are you going to be all right over there?"

Raven didn't look drenched, but he didn't want tonight to be spoiled by a little rain.

Thunder crackled lowly in the distance—not enough to be disruptive, but enough to remind him that this was still a bit of a storm. Oven mitt protecting his hand as he leered into the oven, he decided that the chicken couldn't get any closer to perfect. Reaching in, he hastily pulled it out and set it atop the stove. The only thing left to do was take it out and get the drinks, and that thing was definitely too hot to move right now. He pulled two wine glasses from a higher shelf and then fished out a bottle that had been chilling in the fridge. "You're not planning on dining and ditching, right?" He didn't want her driving home in this weather—especially if he was giving her alcohol on top of it all.

“I’ll be fine over here. I’m not soaked through. Not yet. Not really.” She sat at the table and sighed, leaning in the chair. “I don’t think I’m really in the mood to head home in this storm.” Raven grinned. “Why? Are you offering me a chance to spend the night with you, Jett? Jeeze. You really are being very romantic tonight, aren’t you. I really.”

She stretched in the chair, giving a yawn. “Impressed with you. It feels like you’re actually being a boyfriend instead of, you know.” The blonde shot him a look and stuck out her tongue. “Instead of how you normally are.”

Not that he wasn’t a good boyfriend. She just had very high standards. And she wanted the best…and him looking at his phone for his stock information when they were on a date, well. That wasn’t what she wanted in a boyfriend, she wasn’t that hard up.

Jett rolled his eyes at Raven, but it was clear he was in a slightly playful mood. He grabbed the corkscrew from the counter, and then made his way over to the table while carefully gripping the two glasses, wine, and corkscrew. "Of course you can stay," he huffed. "Mother would just throw a fit if I sent you home in this weather. So the only rational thing to do is invite you to stay over. We have the guest room, if you'd like. Or, you know." He set the glasses on the table and then jammed the corkscrew into the cork, twisting it in. "You could always stay in my room."

His timing was excellent; the cork popped off only a half second after he finished speaking and he left the wine to breath for a moment. "—Though I am inclined to mention that I am always perfectly charming boyfriend, and this is merely me extending my hospitality while looking out for your best interests."

She watched him, grinning. So he really was bringing out the big guns, wine, a home cooked meal? Damn. He was getting some serious boyfriend points for this night, that much was guaranteed now. “Is there a reason for all of this, Jett? Or were you just feeling like you wanted to spend more time with me? Not that I mind, I love spending time with you, it was just kind of a surprise. And you seem to have everything so well prepared, it’s like you were planning this or something.”

Raven continued to watch him and gave another appreciative sniff. The smells were making her hungry. “How much longer before dinner’s ready, honey bunches?” She smirked as she inserted the absolutely absurd nickname but nickname or no, it really seemed like the two were together for real now. There wasn’t any backing out of this now, not that there had been before…but it seemed like Jett finally realized this too.

“My stomach keeps rumbling, that’s the only reason I’m asking.”

Jett gave her a look when she bestowed the nickname upon him, though didn't respond to it other than by giving her one of his own. "Dinner's finished, sugar cake," he responded, touch of sarcasm. "Just pulled the chicken out of the oven. You'll want to let it cool a bit, but you're welcome to help yourself to any of the sides on the table."

He set the wine bottle down and then returned to the kitchen to fetch the finishing touch to the meal. He moved quickly; even with the pot holder, he was could feel the heat. Depositing the chicken in the middle of the table, his last trip to the kitchen was him discarding the pot holder. "And the only reason for tonight is because I thought we ought to do something special. We don't do it enough. And we both had the time. And I like you enough to put some effort into making you happy. Figured this was better than trying to convince you to go grab a burger with me. But if you don't like it, we can brave the storm. Or you can starve," he said, planting a light kiss on her cheek before he took a seat across from her.

She snorted, and would have snorted at everything that came out of his mouth, if she didn’t forcibly stop herself. He was so full of it. Though…the invitation to stay overnight…well, that was tempting, to say the least. But…She grinned.

“Are you even listening to yourself, Jett? Here you are, pouring the wine, and it’s a stormy night, and you’re inviting poor, wonderful, virtuous me to spend the night? This is classic horror movie, horror story stuff right here. If you think I’m going to fall for that one, well.”

Raven laughed. “Then you’re right. I think you’re being terribly charming, and I would love to spend the night here, after I eat the dinner that you prepared so lovingly. I don’t know. This is really a step up for you, I think. You’ve really impressed me, Jett. Thank you. This is going to be an awesome night.”

She leaned against her chair and took her wine glass once it was filled, taking a sip. Well, if the rest of their relationship went on like tonight was going, hell, maybe he’d propose or something. In a few years. Maybe he really was…”the one”. But maybe it was just all of his charm hitting her, and her allowing herself to finally be receptive of the charms.

Or maybe it was just the smell of the wine. Yeah. It was always the wine. Even if she had only had a sip.

Jett simply smiled as he raised his own glass. He found great amusement in poor, wonderful, virtuous Raven. He'd seen enough movies to know that, sure, horror movies were set up this way, but hell—romance movies were, too, right?

A year ago he might have argued that they were basically the same thing, but leave it to Raven to break the stereotypes he had for everything. He sloshed the wine around thoughtfully, and then locked eyes with the girl. "Then, cheers. To us. And a good meal, a good evening, and a good future."

He held his glass out to her, charming smile still in place. If he was pretending, he'd certainly outdone himself this time.
