Zooming through the underbrush of the forest Lapin was racing towards her daily does of adventure. She had definitely inherited her mothers love of wandering and learning new things. Quite a few of her adventures involved seeking Voodoo the stallion who was teaching her the dark arts that he was named after, while other times she was just on the search for fun. Though a few weeks ago Lapin had no desire to have fun, Aunt Mercy leaving had been incredibly hard on her, the foal had overcome that hump thanks to her family and her newest friend a rabbit named Lightfoot. The rabbit was currently exploring the area on his own but would be at her side in a heartbeat if needed. Lapin loved having him around, he made up for Poe's lack of play some days.
Pausing at the edge of the trees Lapin looked out into an open meadow. She knew there were dangers out in the open, in the forest as well, but open land was worse. After making sure she didn't see anything out there the foal ventured forward. She was getting bigger now, no longer a tiny little thing that got lost in even short grass, but it was obviously she would still be on the small side once she reached adulthood. Finding several patches of closer not far from the trees, a treat her and Lightfoot loved, the foal began to munch away on the crisp green leaves, her short fluffy tail wiggling in happiness.

The forest was alive. She could hear it well. The birds cheeping and chirping, the wind in the branches that shuffled the leaves. The sound of underbrush shifting with a body or two brushing past it. In years past, such a sound like that would put her on edge.
You silly old thing. Those days are long gone. Jane told herself as she continued on. These were safe lands, or as safe as it got. She had to let herself enjoy it and the nature around her.
Jane soon found herself at the treeline, and about to step into a clearing. The grass was not quite tall enough to hide in. Not that she needed to hide in the first place. As she let the wind guide her into the grassland, she noticed a dark spot nearby. Jane squinted at it, then ventured the tiniest bit closer. Is that...? Why, yes it is. She looked around. How quaint.
Bad a tactic as it was (though she was a little too old, lonely, and concerned to care), she meandered over to the foal. "Where are your parents, deary?"

Lapin's head shot up out of the clover, sending leaves and stems flying, at the sound of the voice. There hadn't been anyone here a moment ago. "Oh mom and grandpa are that way." She told the other pointing her muzzle to the west without even casting a glance at the owner of voice. "Or they could be that way." She swung her head to look east. "I don't know. But don't worry I always find my way home! Mom says I have a good sense of direction even when I do get lost, I always find my way!" Slowly Lapin's gaze finally turned to the one who had spoke, she had known it was a female and so had instantly trusted her. Perhaps not the best choice in the world but so far it had proved to be a good one. As her eyes settled upon the mare Lapin's lower jaw dropped.
Oh. My. Gosh! This mares tail and ears were the exact same as her own! She had never seen another with these same features. This was the best day ever! Oh she had so many questions to ask! "Wow! You're the same as me!" Lapin exclaimed, her whole body wiggling with excitement. "Your tail and ears! Wow, just wow! Mom doesn't have those, neither does grandpa or Poe. Poe is my sister, she is kinda shy. Mom says I look a lot like daddy, he has the same tail and ears as I do, as we do! But I've never seen daddy so I don't know." Lapin's excitement had affected her speech once more stringing all those words into one long sentence.
And now that she got that out it was time for some questions! "How did our tails get like this? Why are our ears so much bigger? What are those funny looking things on your face? Hey you have a bunny thing wrapped around her neck! I LOVE bunnies. I have a rabbit friend, he's around here somewhere. Where do you come from? Why haven't I seen anyone else with that kind of tail before? Why don't you have antlers? I have antlers, but they are kinda small still, see!" Lowering her head so the mare could get a look at the small antlers mostly hidden by her forelock Lapin took a deep breath. She wanted to ask more, know more about this mare and their kind but she was a little winded at the moment and surely the mare would need time to answer these current questions before the next round of them.

This was a healthy foal, all right! Jane could barely keep up with the little filly's attention span. The child hopped from point to point quicker than the older Nymph could respond. When the enthusiastic drabbling stopped and she could finally stop being dizzy from the speed, Jane chuckled while shaking her head. "One thing at a time, little one, one thing at a time..."
She looked around. No one out in the field, nor did she hear anyone in the forest. This child really was alone. Good thing that she found the little black girly. The craziest things always happened to the lonely foal! Jane herself knew that well enough.
"Ah, so you're not a full-blood. Mmmm. Haven't met one of those in a long time." She looked at Lapin's hooves. Ah, there was the proof of it! She should have known. "It's a pity your Daddy isn't around. At least you have your Mamma and Grampy, though." It was more than she had, anyways. Before she could be lost in her own memories, her focus shifted to the questions. "Deary me, you have a healthy interest in everything Nymph! Makes me smile. Well...As long as I don't get in the way of your curfew, I'm happy to share." Jane nodded in her slow-paced way after her slow-paced drawl. "Now let me see where to start..."
"Well," she began after a deep breath once she knew where to begin, "some old stories say we're the kin of deer, which would explain our connection to nature. You can't have no deer without no forest...and no forest without no deer! And we're very much like the deer, you know. Looks-wise. Tails, ears, hooves, horns...and the forest is just as much our home as their's. And you won't find no Nymphs if they don't want to be found! Same as deer. We're elusive things. Better off than the Putti, Imps, and Nixie!" she laughed. "Our tails can signal to others if there's danger. Our, well, your antlers protect. And hot-blooded males fight with 'em! Silly creatures fighting over silly things! I probably would too, if I had 'em. Use what you got, it's the way to live. Does like us only get 'em occasionally, so thank your lucky stars for 'em! Pretty little things, too." Jane nodded again. When she had a lot to say, she easily went on and on, but her old timer's pacing could quickly bore the impatient. Not only could she help it, but there was no way for her to notice this fault. "My Daddy had some pretty antlers, but I guess it just wasn't meant for me to have 'em. Got his eyesight, though, which is why I wear these buggers. They're called spectacles. And the pink fuzzy-wuzzy on my back is indeed a bunny. What a good eye you've got, deary! Had him all my life," she added proudly.
Now, deary, I think I answered everything you asked the best I could. But these ears are old, so hopefully I didn't miss anything! But now I would like to ask you one little thing: what's your name?"

So there were others like her, who weren't full blood. Lapin wasn't entirely sure what they meant but didn't care at the moment. For now she was beyond thrilled to meet another who looked like her and wanted to learn so much about what they were. "Mom says dad went back to his herd, and took a basket with him, so I guess I have a brother or sister out there that I have never met. But that's okay, I have mom, and grandpa, and Poe, and my two brothers Olo and Syrrin, though Syrrin can be mean, and a whole herd of others to play with! They say I have lots of energy, that I don't stand still very well but I think that's silly!" Even has she said that her body was wiggling this way and that, ear flicking around at every sound but she managed to at least remain here with the mare so she could learn.
As the mare began to explain about their kind, Nymph she said they were called, Lapin was stunned into silence, though she still danced around on her hooves not being able to contain her excitement or energy. Hearing that they were like deer, made tons of sense. Deer had antlers like she did, and hooves like the mare did and fluffy tails like they had. Mention of being able to signal others with their tails had Lapin spinning in circles, looking back at her tail as she wiggled it about. It would make a good signal! Turning her gaze back to the mare she listened intently, clinging to every word. Lapin may be energetic and hard to keep in one place for long, but one another had her attention with a lesson she would not leave until she learned everything.
Spectacles! So that's what those funny things were called. "So they...those spectacles, let you see better? Gosh that's neat. I wish I had spectacles, they look really nice. Does he have a name?" Lapin asked stepping forward to get a closer look at the fuzzy bunny thing draped over the mares shoulders. "My rabbit friend is called Lightfoot, he all grey but his one paw is white. He must have found some dandelions around here, he loves dandelions!" In truth Lapin couldn't remember all the questions she had asked, but knowing some about her kind made her happy. "Is there anything else you can tell me about our kind? Mom doesn't know cause she's not one of them, and neither is grandpa, and since I don't know where my dad is you're all I have! Please tell me more!" She begged, looking up at the mare with big round pleading eyes. "Oh, my name is Lapin!"
