Name: Scarlett Bowen

Aliases: Scar Bowen, Scott Bowen

Gender: Female

Age: 25

Height: 5’8

Weight: 145

Description: Scar has Dark brown hair and eyes the same color her father’s were, gold. She has one scar that goes across her right eyebrow (just missing her eye on the outside), one over her left cheek bone and one on her neck. The one on her neck begins behind her left ear and travels down and across her neck and stops near the front of her collarbone. She keeps her hair cut above her shoulders and shaggy, finding times both on the street and as a pirate where impersonating a boy or a man made things easier. Though hiding her figure has always been the biggest problem there. Although physically fit, she still very much has the curves of a woman.

When not in disguise she wears a bandana on her forehead, holding her hair and the sweat out of her eyes. her ears are pierced a couple of times but otherwise no jewelry. She wears one of those pirate shirts with the puffy sleeves and the bit of lace up at the collar, only with the sleeves cut off. Over that is form fitting, tight black vest. Leather and metal bracers cover her forearms for when she is fighting. She wears black leather pants, tucked into buckled knee high boots. She has 3 sashes tied around her waist, one purple, one green and one blue. They are layered over each other down onto her hips and over them is a leather sash and a wide leather belt to hold her long knives and daggers. A particularly wicked little knife is strapped to her right thigh via a leg sheath.

Personality: Normally calm and level headed. To those she calls friend and ally she is as loyal and dependable as they come. She has also learned how to play the violin from one of the men on the ship. Over time she acquired a couple of beautiful instruments as well as sheet music she is learning to read. She usually plays her violin when she is alone. Only on rare occasion does she play while the crew is partying, preferring to drink the night away like any good pirate. She also has her cutthroat side, literally. She isn’t afraid to stab someone in the back or slit their throat should the need arise. Scar is known for being especially cruel when provoked and it is something to fear.

Job: ex-thief and burglar, currently works as a scout and rigger on board.

Abilities: Scar has always been athletic. She’s agile and quick, preferring to fight with daggers and knives instead of the traditional Cutlass. She is clever and quick and on occasion is known for using stealth. She has an acrobatic talent and uses it to her advantage. She is a natural at all things pirate, including the swearing and drinking.

Biography: Scar’s father was a pirate. She was born to an upper-class mother who had fallen in love with him while she was still engaged. To protect her family she tried to pass Scar (who then went by Scarlett) off as her fiancé’s child. When Scarlett was 11 the husband found out. The next time her father came to town, it was made sure he knew about Scarlett. Not wanting to abandon his child, Daniel Bowen talked his captain into letting her stay on the ship. She lived as a cabin girl, staying away from the crew at first. However, in time, the whole crew fell in love with her. She spent the next 3 years on the ship (The Lioness), living through the good times and the bad right next to her father. She learned the in and outs of the ship and even started helping with other tasks. She became adept at climbing the rigging, and racing her shipmates around when things were dull.

That was life until one night they raided by another pirate vessel. They were caught off guard with the new moon and the crew was slaughtered. Scarlett had fought back and earned a gash above her eye brow. But she was no match for them and was left for dead. She remembers seeing her father fighting but then the world faded to black. The next thing she knew she was floating in the water, lashed to a barrel next to a dead crew mate. She figured that he had found her alive and bandaged her up as best he could. They somehow made it to the water and he tied them to this barrel. However his wounds had been more serious than hers and he had bleed out at some point in the night.

Scarlett made it to shore, stumbling her way into the port town nearly dead from her injuries. A few days later she woke up to a woman tending her wounds. She ran the local brothel and it just so happened to be the HQ for a small group of thieves. She would have been offered a place in the brothel but her injuries left her body too scarred for a working girl. However the thieves were in need of someone with her talents.

She never learned of her father’s fate, but assumes that he perished that night aboard the ship.

The Story thus far is to where I would assume her and Pelagia would meet. Everything after this point is how I figured things would go with her on the pirate vessel after she leaves to look for her. But I’m not sure how things are going to work out in the rp yet so it may or may not change.

After Pela was taken, Scarlett used her knowledge of pirates to get herself aboard a ship. She did her best to impersonate a man, using the alias Scott Bowen. She ended up on a pirate vessel (The Siren’s Call) as an assistant rigger. Her previous knowledge paid off and she did well. During this time she was a great help to the crew both in sailing and during combat. They expanded her knowledge of sword and knife play (she preferred using knives) and how to shoot. She even saved the captains life during a raid.

One day, during a battle, Scarlett was caught off guard. The enemy came up behind her and tried to slice her throat. The wound was deep but the man had been in a rush. She survived but paid a heavy price. The ship doctor discovered her secret while treating her wounds. He waited for her to wake and warn her of what he was going to do. However someone had overheard their conversation and rushed in, throwing the doctor out. By the time the doctor got to the Captain and the quartermaster made it below deck, Scarlett had been dragged off and raped by three of the men.

She was taken to the captain and demanded to tell the truth. She told him everything, including who her father was and the real reason she knew how to sail. As it turns out, this captain was on The Lioness as a deck hand when she first came aboard. She had been there almost two years when he left for a chance at captaining his own vessel.

The captain would not punish the men who raped her. She had known the risks when she lied about her gender. As for her staying, the crew would vote. To her surprise, woman or not, she had the respect of many of the men. So when the vote came, they allowed her to stay.

After the incident she grew colder, never forgetting which three crewmembers had attacked her. Though no one could prove it, they all suspected her of killing them. Each man had met their fate during an attack or raid, but each one had their throats slit in the same fashion.

She spent the next couple of years trying to track down the ship that took Pela with only a few details to go on. She knew vaguely what the ship looked like and descriptions of the men she was taken by but had no luck. Now she is just a part of the crew, but some part of her still hopes to find her old friend.
