Thankful that the cafeteria wasn't all that bad, Madeline settled down in the empty place and slid her hands out of her jacket sleeves, leaving the sun coat to hang off of her shoulders instead. She'd managed to bargain away simple large mug of black coffee and something that she imagined was a pastry, and pleased with herself, she shifted around until her feet were resting on the seat too, knees bumping up to her chest.

On the table she'd stacked a few books, titles Fear for Dummies and A Trainee's Guide to Not Getting Killed showing on their fronts.

( I didn't peg you for much of a reader. ) Arsenios rasped from somewhere in her head. She glanced down at the bracelet and sighed.

Thats what a lot of people think, hun. She quipped back at him, taking a sip from the mug before flipping open the thickest book to a random page. Dont feel too bad about being wrong.

Arsenios scoffed in her head and didn't say anything more. It seemed like another day dedicated to learninglearninglearning and then training her a** off. Madeline let out a loud yawn. Such was the life of a trainee though, she supposed. What a wonderful life.

Another morning another trip to the cafeteria. His own bag of books swung easily on his hip in what was once just a duffle bag full of clothes was now carrying a series of books all the time it seemed.

Scooting carefully about he balanced a plate of eggs, a cup of coffee, toast in his mouth. "Oom fer un mar?" It was hard to talk with toast stuffed in his mouth, the rather short boy tried to gnaw down a bit of his bread before scooting a seat out across from the other girl.

Putting his now half eaten toast down he let out a sigh sipping his coffee. "Hey. Sorry about the mouth full of uh food. Just not a lot of spacey tables to sit at." He took notice of the book before reaching down to his bag pulling out a similar copy.

"They've got you doing the summer reading too?"

<< Oh you're just SO smooth... >>

It wasn't like that! So then why did his cheeks turn a shade pinker?

Raising her brows at the short boy now suddenly sitting down across from her, Madeline couldn't help but smother a laugh with her hands at his attempt to talk via a stuffed mouth. "Sup to you too." She said, untucking her legs from their perch and stretching them out. Despite the relatively dreary climate of the island, Madeline had opted for jean shorts and a loose hanging t-shirt that slipped over one shoulder like it was the goddamn tropics out here.

"No problem, I am in some desperate need of company, doll." She grinned at him, tapping her nails along one of the books she'd flipped open. "And practice makes perfect with the whole talking with a stuffed face thing." She quipped as an afterthought, laughing.

( I didn't know you were such a proper lady. ) Arsenios snarked rudely in her head. She put her most valiant efforts to ignoring him.

"Amongst training my a** off, yes." She smiled at the boy and tapped a finger to the side of her head. "A trainee's life is pretty much training, reading, lectureslectureslectures, and not pissing the superiors off." She held up the book on how to survive as a trainee. "A quick summary to what you'll find in here." She teased with a smooth, shark-like grin before settling it down and reaching over the table, leaning one elbow on the table and extending a hand.

"Madeline," She introduced, "and you are?"

A proper handshake, someone with some sense of normal manners. His own hand reached out to take hers as they spoke. "I've had company, it's just been a mixed bunch if that makes sense." Sasha had been less then happy to start, Rep was all mood swings. Only Jordan and Harrison seemed level and Harrison was a rather quiet kind of guy as was.

With the shake done the mister trainee sat back in his chair, cargo pants where his choice along with a simple black tshirt under his white coat a gold scarf wrapped around his right arm.

"And we will all die, life will suck, everything sucks so on and so on, I've heard that like... so many times now it's barely got meaning other then 'feel sad because we said so' behind it."

Scrambling his eggs with a fork he added his own name in, "Roland, Roland Taft, Mist Division. You're ummm sun right? Jordan and Rep have coats like that kind of."

"You're luckier than me, I haven't met nearly half that many since I woke up." Madeline settled back in her chair and pulled her feet up onto the seat again, sipping at the mug of black coffee with mild interest towards the other. "Wow, you're a cheerful one huh?" Madeline scrutinized her fingers for a moment before glancing back at Ro.

"Hey, just look at all the trainees still alive and kickin'. They may not be the best in the sanity department anymore but - if they can do it, I'm sure we can do." She flipped back a long strand of auburn hair and pursed her lips. "Sad s**t happens, the world keeps sucking and everyone carries on. Thats why we're here. Fate kicked us in the balls." Madeline took another sip and sighed.

( So charming. ) Arsenios rumbled, ( is this your idea of pessimism? )

Madeline smiled, a smooth and enigmatic look. Shush, doll. She regarded Roland's attire with a casual flick of her eyes, traveling up and down his entire body, Fate kicked us in the balls and made us superior. Now we get to suffer for it; give and take.

"Ooh, Mist. Your workloads gonna be fun. All I have to do is learn how to be batman." She gestured lazily to her coat and smiled. "Yeah, Sun. I've yet to meet those two; how're they shaping up in your mind?"

Because dirt on others in her division was the best kind of dirt ever.

"Rep was waiting outside my pod, practically fell over on him when I got out. When I was done getting Silvya he told me to meet him in room 113, ended up meeting Jordan and Harrison there too."

<< Secret lovers, hope no one discovers~ >>

"They're ah, all friends, and Rep's room was damaged along with other parts of the island so he's just been staying there." He wouldn't bring up the single bed, or the fact it was more like three people sharing that very, very, tiny room. The mental image flickered by and he could feel Silvya giggling in delight at the idea of those three together like that.

"I try my best but as I've said, outside of Jordan no one else seems to understand how to not be a complete downer..." He looked down at the trim on his jacket nodding, "Batman for death, The Hulk for Sun, a dash of Petter Parker for life, probably a little Green Lantern for moon work. I'm like a regular captain planet with all these skills combined."

"That is if I felt like I actually knew anything."

He paused at the last question though, "Shaping up? Well, fine I guess, if you don't irritate Rep he's a fairly decent guy I guess, a bit rough but I think everyones going to be like that here. Jordan like I said is probably the most positive person I've met besides you."

"Rep?" Madeline echoed before waving a hand. "I'm sure I'll meet him sooner or later." Her lips curved up into a shark like grin at the mention of two others. "Three people in one room sounds cramped - but then I guess thats when all of the bonding really happens." She said, her tone dipping sardonically for a moment. She couldn't imagine three guys sharing one room without going crazy, but hey, this was a magical island, anything was possible.

Flicking her eyes up when Roland began speaking again, Madeline tipped her shoulders up into a shrug. "You sure they aren't just bein' realistic?" She smiled, "S'not like we know much about how it is around here yet. Obviously its not the land of sunshine and magic and not everyone survives." Madeline was full of morbid realism, and sometimes that wasn't for the best. "Ha, yeah, I guess." She returned when the other compared the Divisions to superheroes.

"One day." She chimed, and then, "hopefully."

She'd read up on people transferring divisions in one of the books - and then of course the whole mortality rate part too. The fun stuff.

"Yeah, well, that might change soon." She grinned, lips pulling up around an enigmatic smile. "Who knows how this place changes people."

"If you don't mind me asking, who found you when you fell out of your pod?" He ignored the discussion of the room with three men. It was clear Rep and Jordan shared the room... closely. The fact that Harrison had wandered in like that did little to stifle his own weary opinion and Svylia's very set opinion on the matter.

<< Those three make a lovely trio and I support that. >>

Ro didn't dignify that with a response.

"Maybe they are, but I mean, how can anyone live longer then a few months with a mindset like that? Morale and what not." He sighed, "No it's not a happy place, not in the least. I don't think the sun exists around here. Mist and rain all the time. It makes the UK look sunny and happy I bet." He let out a long sigh, "Yeah one day we'll know everything and be just as miserably depressing right?"

He had seen the mortality rate just as well. It had been a very early chapter in the basic handbooks. Slowly he reached over to his coffee raising it up lazily. "A toast then, a toast to changes to come and hopefully being alive and happy enough to enjoy the changes."

"Hm?" Madeline glanced over at the question, quirking a brow and leaning back in her seat. She raised the mug to her lips, blowing thoughtfully on the wisps of steam before turning her attention back to Roland, a lazy, cat-like grin sweeping over her face. "No one, I was alone." She shrugged her shoulders. "Some guy gave me my pass and stuff before letting me go but other than that..."

She flicked her eyes to the other when he commented on morale and whatever, her lips shifting to accomodate a bit more shark-like smile. "Don't you mean how can people live longer than that if they don't have a mindset like that?" She shrugged, her morbid realism showing through. "It's fine to be optimistic, but too much of its going to get you killed sooner than helping you survive. You can't just think it'll all be fine. You're going to get yourself killed that way." She pursed her lips and took another sip. "You have to consider all of the options - and what you're going to do to ensure the best outcome in each one, even if ultimately you die in the end."

She laughed suddenly, waving a hand at Roland.

"Sorry, I grew up in a household where optimism was regarded as weakness." Which was true, her family was full of people demanding that good things in life were earned through strife, not happy thoughts. "The United Kingdom is probably a distant relative." She mused thoughtfully. "I guess you get used to it though."

Raising a brow at the toast, she chuckled and tapped her own mug to his. "Here, here," She chimed in sing-song, taking a large swig and slamming the mug down like it was full of beer. "I'm sure we'll both endure the changes. Maybe."

"Oh well, that's rather un-fun. Rep at least was there to get me up in a chair and kind of give me an over view of what was happening before I was whisked off to the cove for a weapon." He reached up flicking a small scythe dangling from his left ear.

He blinked again, her mindset really was on the bleak side, at least Rep had a bit of a fire or passion when he spoke of the bad things. Made it sound like the military did, dying honorable in service. She seemed... she seemed to just be fine with it. No pride or fear, just. There? It was strange.

"I'd like to think till the odds are utterly against you, that keeping ones hopes up is the way to go in any situation no? Till you die assume you'll live less you die quicker thinking you're doomed."

The explanation came at last and he finally settled back nodding, "That would explain a lot. I wasn't raised like that. But I can see how that might ah make you feel about a place like this."

There glasses clinked and he chugged a bit of his own coffee before placing it far more carefully to the side so not to make a mess of the table or books. "We won't have a choice so we will I guess."

"Yeah. They chose a great time to wake me up." Madeline retorted wryly, shrugging a shoulder. "But its fine. I got to meet Arsen soon enough, and he's enough of a conversational partner any day." She smiled and flipped closed one of her books, returning it to her pile and taking another sip of her coffee, now nothing more than luke warm.

"I guess," She mused, raising her brows at Roland, "but its good to look at all of the possible outcomes, I think." She smiled at him. "If something doesn't go the right way, you should have thought ahead so you can adapt to it." She waved her fingers at him, dismissing the bleak conversation.

"Don't mistake me for some bleak chica with no good outlook on life," Madeline's smile dimmed a bit, her eyes lowering to her mug. "I just don't count my eggs until they hatch, and I don't celebrate until I'm at the finish line." She whistled and pulled herself back to the present, winking at Roland. "But hey, here's to surviving, let's hope we both do just that."

Settling the mug on the table again after another sip, she kicked her feet off of the chair and stretched her arms in the air, letting out a yawn. "Yep." She glanced at him. "Let's hope you get to keep your wonderful outlook on life too. That would be a fresh breath of air to all the gloom around here, huh."

"Any time is good time, better then being asleep in a pod doing those creepy trial things." He shivered slightly the sound of someone shifting silverware near by sounding a lot like a hammer on a gun being clicked.

"As a mist I'm the one cleaning up where others fell short or couldn't do that job. If I screw up I think we've hit the bottom of the bottom, or rather if another senior mist does we might be screwed. Other wise I am the contingency plan. The very new and terrified one."

He took another drag of his coffee, slightly warmer then her own from his late joining at the table. "Forgive me for thinking that way, it's just a lot of negativity soooo just kinda making the assumption right there."

He fiddled with his drink more before gathering his own books up into a bag sighing at the time. "Wonderful outlook, I'll try, for you at least if not myself and my own sanity." Patting his books he glanced at his phone groaning.

"I have an appointment in the labs, a book should be in I was told to pick up. Weapons training self defense stuff. I'll be around though." He fiddled around in his bag again pulling out a pen before snatching a napkin jotting down his phone number and dorm room 152.

"Find me around sometime okay?" Scooting away he grabbed a bagel to shove in his mouth before sprinting out the door.

<< She wasn't too bad looking you two should 'study' sometime. >>

He nearly tripped over his own two feet, loosing the bagel and running even faster out the door.
