The labs where, to say the least. Very big. Some where he found a room to himself with a series of terminals and dropped a pile of books on the table beside him. In his other hand was a lone mug of coffee. It seemed being a Mist trainee would involve long hours of books, physical training, and general sadness. Today was a book day. Of course Sylvia didn't make it any better by insisting on humming and singing to herself in the shared space that was Roland's head.

"Can you please stop that Sylvia?" It was about the twentieth time he asked while flipping through a book on the basics of FEAR while glancing back at a monitor trying to decipher a series of infections that could result. He knew basic first-aid thanks to his dad, but he had never heard of a person growing mold before.

<< Then put on some music, I'm bored and you're boring me with these books. >>

"Fine fine so long as you quiet down...." Flipping over to a browser and poking his way around what he could find he finally brought up a version of Pandora to start drowning out Sylvia, granted he turned it up just a bit higher then it needed to be.

It helped make Sylvia sound less noisey when she complained to skip to the next song, and with that he continued his seemingly endless studies.

Usually Sasha had her own earbuds plugged into her ears, but while she was working, she preferred .. well, working. She'd been spending most of her time on the training field, in the ratty-a** gym that they were allowed access to, or here, in the labs. Minipets, research, cleaning, pod duty. Whatever. It kept her mind off of the issues that rankled. There was a lot on her mind, and sitting around in solitude didn't help things.

Besides, Nona was more than happy to sing her sweet tunes in Sasha's mind, and sometimes when a familiar song came 'round, the life huntress would find herself humming along. This was not one of those times, as Sasha was finding herself increasingly distracted by a loud, thumping that was radiating systematically from the room next door.

"Rude. Rude, Nona. I just .. it's just so rude. Get a headset. Keep it to yourself. Why make everyone else listen? Ridiculous. It's just ridiculous."

The muttering was quiet, and it was very, very unlikely that anything discernible could be understood, and as she opened the door that connected the two rooms, Sasha's face was twisted into a rather ugly expression. Nona, properly attuned to her bonded thanks to the constant sharing of head-space, thought it wise to gently interject a softly spoken admonishment before Sasha could even speak.

<Nicely, dove.>

Pressing her lips together in a firm line, Sasha cleared her throat. Loudly.

Sadly Ro had no ears puds. None of the things he brought with him worked. So for now he relied on the speakers built into the computer he was currently at. Having moved on in his work he was looking at minipets chewing on a pen half heartedly pausing only to pull it out and sip his coffee while his head unbeknowingly rocked to the music.

<< I'm enjoying this... what is it called, dubstep? It's noisey. >>

"Yeah just like you," he added without missing a beat. Though that might have come off wrong considering right as he said it Sasha cleared her throat, rather loudly right behind him.

<< Oh we have a guest >>

"Eh wha!?" Spinning around he knocked a small pile of books over before spinning back the other way hammering alt f4 to close down the browser and pandora.

"S-sorry I um I didn't think anyone was this far back in the labs and I just, I don't have any headphones and Sylvia was complaining about the lack of music."

<< I could have been singing for us but you don't seem to like my singing. >> There was just the ever faintest hint of a pout behind that and a slight irritated humming picked up somewhere int he back of his head.

"I really, um yeah." He glanced at his work, back at Sasha, brown eyes seeming rather tired all of the sudden, "When do they stop acting like highschool teenagers and being snarky?"

<< HEARD THAT! >>

He flinched.

"I'm not sure if you've noticed, but this is a place of work. People come here to work, or study quietly out of respect for anyone else that might be in the area." She lifted her chin while directing a very haughty look in the stranger's direction. Everything about her posture, her voice, her all-around demeanor fairly screamed one thing.

Annoyance.

She cooled her heels just the slightest when the stranger asked about 'they' - which Sasha could only assume meant the voice in his head - rather, his weapon - and she gave a brisk shrug.

"It did not take Nona too long to realize that this was not all fun and games. The first time I was banged up was all it took before she understood that we weren't here to chase tail or look at..." Sasha paused for a moment, an obvious internal dialogue taking place, "'all the fine bodies around' she says." Sasha shrugged again and gave the man a crucial look.

"You must be new." There was a twist of her mouth that maybe could have been a smile. "Welcome to Suffering, population everyone on the Goddamn island."

That being said, Sasha turned and moved back into the other room, though she left the door open for reasons unknown. To invite interaction? To keep an eye on the new hunter? Hard to say, hard to say.

His head was hung low, even as she spoke. He knew what he was doing was likely a bad idea, but it kept Syliva in line for a bit and that was all he really wanted was for his own head to not be throbbing with the sound of her singing.

"I'm sorry, really, I've only been here like three days I just fell out of a pod and... I feel completely and utterly hopeless right now. So yeah, I'm really, painfully, and hopelessly new."

The last part however caused him to bow his head again, "That's becoming a reocuring theme. Everyone keeps reminding me of that. Makes the first days on the job just.... thrilling." Even as he finished speaking she seemed to have left, the doors where open and he could see her moving into the other lab.

<< So are you going to just watch her walk away or actually I dun know, talk to her? Personally I liked hanging out with the three boils from the first day, but you should have a word with her too. >>

"Can't possibly hurt, much." He mumbled before getting up to follower her to the other lab room leaning on the door frame rather then just walking right in. "Look, I know, I was being a jerk, I just." He paused, "My names Roland, and if you have the free time maybe we could just, talk? I have a ton of questions, I haven't had anything but coffee to drink and even with a voice in my head its kind of lonely in these labs not talking to another person face to face."

<< I'm not good enough!? >> The voice faded for once though, it seemed her reaction to this situation was to not talk and even better, not sing.

"Sasha," she introduced herself.

Great. Just what I need. Someone else that needs babysitting.

<Sweetling. Gently. Do you not remember how it felt to be fresh from the pod? Did it not take us some time to adjust, little bird? Hmm?>

"Why haven't you eaten? Nobody showed you where the cafeteria is? I'd think that would be one of the first places they should have introduced you to. What kind of questions do you have? I can probably answer a few of them right off the bat."

She cleared her throat and lifted a hand, fingers outstretched as she used the index finger of her opposite hand to count off.

"Yes, you're probably going to die, yes, life here is pretty miserable, no, you don't ever really get used to someone else's voice in your head, yes, it'll get easier as you grow to trust your bonded, yes, you're still probably going to die and ummm... let me think. Yes, you will start to question your sanity. Every. Day."

Sasha lifted her eyebrows.

"Any other questions?"

"It's um, good to meet you Sasha." It was actually a nice name, on any other day he might have said more but it seemed a good day was not today for her. Or him at this rate with his luck.

"I didn't eat, I just grabbed a coffee, I've been studying I guess you could say." He gesture back to the other room. "I wasn't aware we could... mold. Or they could mold."

Her next set of responses where hardly pleasing his eyes seemed to dim slightly as he watched her speak, was everyone so aggressive? Jordan seemed fairly nice, Harrison just smirked a lot, and Rep well. As long as he was careful he seemed to get along well enough.

"Yeah a lot of people covered that, dying and misery seem to be the top goals." He crossed his arms a bit though, "I guess my real question now is why? Why is everyone so bleak? Why do any of us come here or even last more then a minute with... all this bitterness? Aren't we helping the world, making it better?"

He sighed, "If I wanted unbalanced angry people I would have just stayed home and been dealing with my family..."

Sasha let out a soft, harsh bark of laughter.

"Sitting around reading books isn't going to keep you alive when you're out there fighting creeps. Those things could care less about.. mold?" She shook her head. "I don't even know why you're reading about mold. As far as I know it's just a rumor, scare tactics that have been thrown around, but then again, it isn't important to me."

Sasha shrugged.

"Regrets won't do you any good now. I don't know if you've been told - I'm sure you must have been - but there's no going back. No second chances. So if what you're looking for is happy fun sunshine, Ro? I hate to tell you, but you're a complete 180 from where you want to be."

She picked up a clipboard and stalked over to a small glass containment cell that held one over-sized potato with a billion beady, blinking little eyes.

"No not in a fight, that's what Sylvia is for, as for now I'm reading because I haven't a clear idea what I'm fighting." He moved into the lab more proper following her as she took up a clipboard watching her study in silence before responding again.

"It's Life's job to understand what we fight and how to do it right? Be able to counter the wounds and problems it creates, I have no choice but to learn it since I'm a mist. The more I know, the better use I can be here in the labs. When it comes to fighting, well, I'll have to talk to the Suns about that."

"I didn't expect sunshine, no not really much of it, but I hoped that the people here would have some kind of hope, or moral. If we're going to die shouldn't we at least die thinking we made some kind of difference rather then just being another number beside the dead and gone?"

He shifted to the side getting a better look at the container, he also took about three steps backwards frowning from ear to ear. "What the hell is that and why does it have so many eyes..."

Sasha merely grunted and pursed her lips, glancing up from the clipboard she held to pin Roland with a beady glare.

"We do a lot of research in the Life division. We do a lot of development, a lot of analysis. It's a very precise and scientific division that requires intelligence and attention to detail."

It was obvious by her expression that she had serious doubts regarding Roland's capabilities in either of those areas.

"In the field, we are responsible for any number of tasks; we're not glorified doctors and nurses though we do have healing capabilities. At our core, it's not really what we're about."

Sasha glanced back at the hell-potato.

"And.. minipets." She watched sullenly as the potato rolled towards her in its confines.

Rep's glares where like a blunt bat, angry and could be avoided if you where just smart enough to shut up. Sasha on the other hand was like a ice cold scapel cutting right to the heart of disaproval leaving Ro wanting to take a step back.

Shame he was already pressed to a lab table trying to get away from the thing in the cage and instead was left to simply shrink down shorter then he was (which was hard considering she was shorter then him).

"I.. haven't done much work. Here, with life but...I have to and I would take any pointers. Honestly." The look he continued to get was not at all helping his hopes of gaining her approval.

"And if I might ask... what in the field does a life do? Outside of the labs that is." He glanced at the 'minipet' frowning. "I take it it's more then making or working with... those. That thing." He tried to get a little closer and all the eyes snapped towards him causing him to scoot back again.

He might not be cut out for Life at all at this point.

"We are support. We are healers, too - not always by nature, but depending on the orders we're given, well. More often than not the task of healing falls into our hands. Special bandages." Sasha watched him cower away from the Masher with a look of cool humor. His discomfort amused her.

"This thing is a minipet - specifically, a Masher. It's relatively harmless, honestly, and probably one of my favorites."

That wasn't saying much, really.

She decided to return to the topic of weapons.

"My Nona was just like your Sylvia when I first bonded with her. We've come to something of a mutual understanding as we've matured and grown together. I can only hope that you find that same symbiotic relationship that I have found with Nona - that nearly all hunters have found with their bonded."

Sasha dumped a few pieces of Fear candy into the Masher's cage before securing the minipet back where it belonged. That finished, she turned back to Ro and lifted a brow.

"Any other questions?"
