Having slipped a short distance from her family's seaside home Aquitaine was taking in some quiet time away from her brothers. It was true she loved her brothers deeply, she loved her entire family deeply, but the boys could be rowdy at times and while they often played games that appealed to her tastes she didn't enjoy roughhousing with them all that much. Even wanting to be a knight like her father didn't make her enjoy the rough play any. It was a necessary part of their training, it did have it's benefits and was on the rare time fun, but Aquitaine preferred the quieter activities, especially those things her mother taught her like dancing, picking flowers and stories. These times when she sought to be away from her family were rare, but it did happen, mainly when she wished for some quiet or time to think without being distracted by her brothers.

Today was one such day. They had already done a bit of early morning training with their father and now her brothers were off playing, her parents were discussing something and she had simply walked off. She should have told her parents where she was going but she had not journeyed far and in fact could be back at a moments notice if she so chose.

With the faint sound of the waves lapping at the beach in the distance Aquitaine ventured just a bit further. There were a few things on her mind today, things that she could have spoke to her parents about but had so far chose to keep quiet. She wanted to see if it was possible to sort things out before gaining their advice. Besides if she were to grow up to become independent, an idea that both thrilled and scared her, she would need to be able to solve any problems she encountered on her own if possible.

Emille took a deep breath as she looked up into the sky, watching her familiar, Prince, flying around making sure her and her daughter were okay. The owl was careful of them, she knew that. Her first few weeks as a single mother really took a toll on Emille, and was working hard on being as good as how her mother was to her. She admitted to herself that she had been very much afraid, but with her two daughters and son being able to support themselves already, it made her quite proud.

Today, her son and youngest daughter went off on their own while her middle child, Louvia, played in the grass nearby. Emille would look at her and couldn't help but smile, reminding her of how it felt to be a child and carefree. It was a feeling she missed, but she knew that she was a mother now and didn't have time for that. "I will muster as much strength as I can for my darlings!"

She sat down under a tree and enjoyed the slight breeze from the nearby water as Louvia tumbled on the plains. The young filly was giggling and Emille couldn't help giggling a bit herself. Nearby, she noticed another filly approaching. "I guess Louvia shall have a new friend today!"

Sticking her head in a bunch of flowers, Louvia's ears twitched as the wind blew over head. She could sense her mother was nearby, and as long as she was still there, Louvia could play as much as she wanted. The half-kitty horse was enjoying her sunbathing as much as any other feline would. Tumbling round in the grass, she noticed that another filly was coming and with the chance of making a new friend, Louvia put on a bright smile and trotted over there.

"Heya there," Louvia shouted at the filly she was approaching. The feline in Louvia made her quickly nuzzle the filly on the neck. She loved showing affection to almost anyone. Her momma thought that it might be a bad and good quality for her, but for the most part, others that Louvia met were okay with it. She looked at the filly and wondered how she'd react. "Nice ta meet 'cha! I'm Louvia!"

Aquitaine had not expected to find another foal out here, especially one that wasn't one of her brothers. Oh there were plenty of Soquili that passed by the family's home but for the most part they were adults and they did not stay long. Some never stopped, they just walked past either obvious or not caring of the fact that the family lived here. Living in such a sheltered place Aquitaine really hadn't met many others. There was that one family trip where she had met a foal out in a meadow near a dark looming mountain, and that one time a winged foal had stumbled upon her dancing in a clearing but all her other encounters were either with her famiy or adults who had been passing by.

As the filly made her way over Aquitaine's long slender tail waved behind her slowly. "Hello." Now with the other foal close enough to talk to Aquitaine noticed her eyes. They were glowing! She had never seen glowing eyes before. But that thought was interrupted as the foal nuzzled her. Yet another unexpected thing. Aquitaine didn't shy away from the nuzzle and gave the filly one in return. Her brothers didn't generally like shows of affection, thinking they were too girly and mushy, but Aquitaine loved them. "I'm Aquitaine. It's nice to meet you Louvia." As she looked at the filly, taking in those glowing eyes once more Aquitaine noticed her ears. She had heard of certain breeds having different ears, mainly the Cerynei, but these ears didn't match the description of the deer like Soquili. This filly was like her, yet completely different. "Are...you from around here?" She asked pulling her attention away from the fillies strange yet interesting features. She herself had three horns, two more than either of her parents had, and a long slender tail as opposed to a unicorn tail. It was possible that the filly could live nearby, Aquitaine rarely left her family's small home so there was a whole world out there of things she had yet to see, smell, touch, taste and hear.

Louvia's ears twitched happily as she looked at the other filly. It was nice to get out and play! Sure, her brother and sister were fun... But new Soquili were so much better! It made Louvia even more happy that the filly returned the nuzzle! Others seemed scared of her sometimes because of her affectionate demeanor, not even counting her eyes and ears.

"It's nice to meet ch'ya too, Aquitaine!" She blinked a few times, seemingly turning on and off the blue glow of her eyes. Louvia trotted happily around her new friend, looking at her. "I'm not from around here though... I'm not really from anywhere."

The young filly looked at her mother that was a ways away. "My momma travels a lot, so I stick with her." Louvia smiled a big smiling, her right ear twitching just a bit. "I'm not big enough to be alone yet, so Momma watches me!"

Aside from watching her mother and where she was, Louvia couldn't help but admire the filly. "Your horns are so pretty! And your tail too!" The kitty in Louvia made her want to pounce on the tail, but she tried her best to hold back the urge. "They remind me of my brother and sister's tail!" Louvia, however, didn't know the difference between her siblings' feline-line tails and Aquitaine's unicorn one.

------------------------------------------------------------------

There was a smile on Emille's face as she watched her daughter. She knew that Louvia was similar to how she was when she was a filly. They were both very affectionate foals. The only big difference was that Louvia loved to talk. But it was the affection that worried her. Emille knew that sometimes others were not that open to it.

Emille let out a sigh of relief when the foals seemed to be getting along. The other filly with Louvia seemed to be friendly and.. some what accepting of how Louvia 'was', both physically and emotionally.

She couldn't help herself but feel a pang of worry, unsure if it was for Louvia or for the other filly, so the young mother made her way to the foals. Emille still gave them space, but she smiled at the both. "Louvia, my sweet... It seems like you've made a nice new friend!"

It was hard not to giggle as Louvia blinked. But she managed to hold in the laugh and instead let a wide smile cross her lips. It still shocked her to see such eyes. None of her family had them. Was it a common trait? Something only certain families had? Did it turn everything blue for Louvia or make seeing at night easier? Well she didn't have much time to think on it as the filly began talking again. Aquitaine could not imaging having no particular place to call home, and yet, think of all the places Louvia must be able to visit! Oh Aquitaine longed to see so much of the world but was so attached to her home and family that she wasn't sure how exactly she would see them all. One day she would see things outside her home, just not today. But if Louvia could tell her a bit about the outside world she would love to hear about it. "I'd love to travel lots. You're very lucky, getting to see all kinds of things. I live around here. By the ocean." She said glancing back towards the trees that separated the meadow from the ocean.

Mention of her horns and tails suddenly reminded Aquitaine of her differences, something she was both proud of and slightly saddened by. She longed to look like her mother, with beautiful long hair, to have a normal tail like her father did. But she smiled, accepting the compliment from the filly. "I like your ears! They are really neat. And your eyes, I've never seen eyes like that." Wait. Did Louvia just say that Aquitaine's tail reminded her of the ones on her siblings? "My tail...is...like the ones your siblings have?" How was that possible? Could others be like her. Aquitaine cast a quick glance at Louvia's tail but it was not like her own, instead it was just a normal hair tail. "I thought I was the only one with a tail like this. It's different from the tails my parents and brothers have."

Glancing up Aquitaine spotted a mare coming their way. At first she wondered who this stranger was, but as the mare spoke she realized that it was Louvia's mother. Woah! Now she felt even more similar to Louvia than before. Why she didn't look at all like her mother, except for the color of their mane and tail. So she wasn't the only one who held no resemblance to family. Smiling at the mare Aquitaine felt a small amount of shyness before speaking. "Hello."

Louvia giggled as the filly's smile grew. She knew that her eyes were odd and sometimes a bit amusing, but Louvia had been born with them. Her momma had always complimented her on them, so she never thought anything was ever wrong! Her ears bugged her momma more, mostly because they reminded her momma of her daddy, but Louvia didn't care. Momma was with her and Daddy... Well, to her, she didn't really have a daddy.

When Aquitaine mentioned the beach, Louvia got excited. "Ohh! The beach! That sounds absolutely wonderful!" Her momma had talked to her about the beach before, but they hadn't actually gone yet. "Momma still needs to bring us there!"

"Hehe thankies," Louvia exclaimed as her ears twitched in excitement some more. "My eyes make me special! Momma and Papa both don't have them. Same with my brother and sister." They had come as a surprise to Emille as they were born, each of her children a little bit darker than both of the parents. "And yeah! Papa, Brother and Sister all have skinny tails like yours!"

She smiled as Aquitaine mentioned that she was different from her siblings. "Well, I'm different too, with my eyes!" Louvia smiled. "But Momma said that's what makes each of us special! We all have something a little bit different."

-------------------------------------------------------

Emille smiled as she over heard the conversation between Louvia and Acquitaine. She was proud that her little girl had listened to the things she taught her and well, was accepting of herself and others that seemed 'different'. Even she knew she was a little odd to be holding onto a two-leggers' spear.

She walked over and nuzzled Louvia. "You are the most gorgeous little filly," Emille told her daughter with a loving smile. Then she looked back at the filly that seemed a little bit self-conscious about how she looked. Emilled smiled at her too. "As my daughter has learned, it's not the outside that matters," Emille paused as she went and pointed to Acquitaine's chest. "But what's in there."

"It's sometimes a little hard to accept, but no matter how you look on the outside, if you're kind to others," Emille said as she looked over at Louvia. "No matter how 'odd' or 'intimidating' you think you look, there's always someone that's willing to be your friend!" Emille went to nuzzle Louvia again and then to Acquitaine.

"Louvia seems to make a lot of friends without any trouble," Emille laughed. "Though sometimes she does get herself into trouble without knowing it!" Emille saw Louvia and how she acted with Acquitaine. "It seems like Louvia is enjoying your company quite a bit!"

Louvia haven't been the the beach yet? Oh that had to change! "You have to go to the beach! It's the best place ever! There's sand, and shells, shiny rocks, sometimes you see crabs and other things that live in the water. You can go swimming too, if the waves are too high. Oh," she took a step closer to Louvia to share this little secret. "there are even Soquili that live in the water. I've never seen one but my dad says one day I will I just have to be patient." With a nod she took a step back. Yes, one day she would see a Kelpi and a Mer and a Seathi, she just knew it. "And there's seaweed to eat too. It's kinda like grass but tastes different." Depending on the kind of seaweed it was either a good different or a bad different. Aquitaine hadn't quite found out all the kinds that tasted bad but she was slowly learning, she definitely knew which ones tasted good.

"They sure are special!" How many others could claim to have eyes like that? Probably not very many. But Aquitaine would certainly keep her eye out for others. It was still amazing to think that even though they didn't exactly look the same their differences had been a strong bonding point. Aquitaine let her head nod, yes they certainly were special. Though her attention turned back to the mare.

Those words, as simple as they seemed, spoke a great deal. It's not the outside that matters, but what's in there. She had been told similar things by her parents, and while she had always listened to them there was something about hearing it from this accepting mare that made them all the more special. "My daddy says that being different is a special thing, cause not everyone gets to be different." And yet, there was something still bothering her. It was nice to see another foal, other than her brothers, who did possess different traits that made Aquitaine feel normal once more, but...she looked up at the mare and hesitated for a second before speaking again.

"I know that what's in here," she motioned to her chest with her nose, "is what is important. But..." Aquitaine paused for a second, thinking over her words, her hoof twisting in the dirt as she considered what was on her mind. "Sometimes I do wish I looked like my parents. I know they love me for who I am outside as well as inside, but I can't help but wonder what it would be like to be...normal." Normal was somewhat unobtainable to Aquitaine. She could act normal but nothing could ever change the way she looked. "Not everyone is nice like you and Louvia are." There she said it, and amazingly enough getting that off her chest already made her feel better.

A smile crossed her lips just then. "I really like Louvia, I hope we can stay friends even after you leave the area." She turned to look at Louvia. "Do you think we could do that? Be friends still? That way your mommy can bring you to visit and you can see the beach. And maybe my parents will let me visit you both one day."

"Best place...? REALLY?" Louvia blinked faster than normal and her ears twitched oddly, one side at a time, back and forth. She ran around her mother real quick, asking. "Momma! Let's go to the beach! I wanna go now!" It was rare to see Louvia want something that much, but because Acquitaine said it was wonderful, Louvia knew it had to be and the desires for the beach grew. Louvia ran back to Acquitaine and glanced at Emille. "There's no way Momma's going to say no!"

Louvia was starting to ramble now. "Oh... I wanna see them!... Seaweed sounds yummy!... " There were just so many things that Louvia hadn't done yet that she wanted to do. Louvia then realized that Acquitaine had told her so much about herself, but didn't really know much about her and her momma. "We haven't tried those yet, but... Because of daddy and him being a 'kitty', I can jump higher easier, and if the low branches are large enough for me, I can sit on them!"

It was something odd to say for most horses, but it was something Louvia was proud of. "My momma told me that even when she was my age, she was already too heavy for the big branches, so it makes it even cooler!" Louvia looked over at Emille again. "I'm actually better than mommy at something!" The filly plopped on the ground, rolled around on the grass and giggled.

She paused for a little bit and smiled. "Of course! Friends... Always!"

------------------------------------------------------

As her daughter ran around her, Emille got a little bit dizzy. She laughed and responded to her daughter. "Of course we can go to the beach. We can go whenever you want and visit your new friend!" Emille had been to the beach once and enjoyed it herself. She had just been so preoccupied with so many things that it seemed hard to find time to make her way there again. Emille knew, however, that if her daughter wanted it, she'd go!

Emille looked at Acquitaine again, giving her a warm smile. "I'm pretty sure you look like your parents, even if it was just a little bit." She motioned towards the rolling Louvia. "Even she looks a little bit like me when it comes to the color of our hair. Louvia just looks more like her papa. Sometimes it's hard to see how much alike we are because we're so hard on ourselves, yah know?"

"Sometimes, even when others 'look' normal, doesn't mean that they are!" Emille nuzzled Acquitaine's neck a little. "Like myself... When I first got Louvia and her siblings as baskets, I was a very reckless young mare and almost left them to die by themselves..." She paused just a bit, reliving the feelings of that day. "I realized how evil I was that day despite how 'normal' i might look..."

She wasn't sure why she shared this story with Aquitaine, but gave the filly a smile again anyways. "And it was an odd little colt that made me realize how bad I was being." Emille laughed slightly. "Normal isn't always the best!"

Aquitaine's gaze moved from Louvia to her mother and then back to Louvia. It would be really great if they could visit her at the beach sometime, she could show Louvia all the neat things, introduce her to her brothers, and Louvia's mom could spend time with her own parents. It would be perfect. Of course she was excited to hear Louvia's mother agree to visit the beach at any time, having a friend come to visit would be a nice thing. She didn't have any friends besides her brothers and they really didn't count since she saw them every day. "The beach really is great." Aquitaine nodded, smiling at the pair. "And you could meet my parents." She added looking up at Louvia's mother. "I bet they would like you." Of course her parents would like the mare, her parents were very welcoming to strangers and those they knew as well.

Aquitaine couldn't help but laugh at Louvia's excitement over trying seaweed. "Some is good, but there are some kinds of seaweed that are gross." She couldn't help but shudder thinking on the times she had tried a piece of seaweed only to find it's taste to be less than appealing. EArs perked forward as Louvia explained that she could jump up and sit on low large branches. "Wow! That's really neat! I can't do that. But I can draw pictures in the sand with my tail." They weren't the best pictures in the world but to her they were quite amazing. "How does it feel to sit up in a tree? I bet it feels like it would to fly." Her one grandfather could fly, it was a glorious thing to watch but Aquitaine could only dream of such things. Aquitaine let out a giggle along with Louvia. It would be great to be able to do something better than her mother or father could. She couldn't dance as well as her mother yet but she practiced every day and she certainly wasn't as brave as her father was but looked up to him for that. Perhaps one day she would be better at something than her parents.

She took a few moments to consider Emile's words. "Well...I do sort of look like daddy, he's blue. And mom has swirls on her legs like I do." Maybe she wasn't as different looking from them as she had first thought. Sometimes one needed an outside perspective to see what had been under their nose the entire time. And she did love to dance like her mother and liked the idea of being a knight like her father. Yes perhaps the differences weren't so much after all. Aquitaine leaned into the nuzzle and listened carefully to the mares story. She had never expected to hear something like that. "Normal doesn't seem so...normal anymore." Aquitaine admitted with a bit of a shrug, maybe normal wasn't any different than being abnormal.

Her gaze shifted back to Louvia and smiled widely. "Friends forever!" And she moved over to her friend giving her a happy nuzzle. "We will have all kinds of fun together!"

Louvia looked up at the sky and thought. "Hm... Sitting on a branch." The young filly ended up thinking out loud, not really able to control her ranting. "It's kind of fun to feel the different breeze that blows up there... Also I was afraid of falling at first. Mommy lets me do it because I can find sweeter apples higher up!" Louvia grinned so hard when she looked at her mom and Aquitaine.

"I don't know much about flying though. My older brother can fly, but... He doesn't talk to me much, so Mommy just yells up at me from the ground." There was a bit of sadness in her tone when she mentioned her brother this time, but it was quickly gone and Louvia giggled after she mentioned her mom.

"Ohh! Drawing!" She looked over at Aquitaine's tail and nodded, somewhat solemnly. "That tail is definitely a good drawing tool! I think Mommy said she did it once at the beach, when she met someone else there, but she used her... s...spuh...spuhEAR?" The filly shuddered at the word a bit. Louvia was used to seeing it with her mother and grandfather, but she didn't really like it much because the two-leggers used it. "I wanna see your pictures. They're probably much better than Mommy's!"

After Emille talked to Aquitaine, Louvia returned the nuzzle happily. She had her mommy all the time, but new friends all over the place was awesome!

---------------------------------------

She could help but grin at her daughter. Louvia definitely had more spunk than when she was younger, but a lot of what Emille was now and what she was becoming definitely rubbed off on her. Emille tisked her daughter when she mentioned being able to climb trees. They both knew that Louvia was quick on her hooves and could do it even without Emille seeing it. She didn't want to tell that to Aquitaine, however.

"Spear, my dear," Emille told Louvia. She was kind of disappointed at her daughter's distaste for it, but Emille also knew that eventually, she would teach Louvia to wield her own. Her father had given it to her for protection, and she would do the same for her own daughter.

Emille couldn't help but love Aquitaine just as much as she loved Louvia. It took a lot of older Soquili more time to warm up to someone that was 'different' like her kids, but Emille loved how someone so young was so much more accepting. When the two fillies were in mid-nuzzles, Emille nuzzled them both and looked at them both in the eyes.

"You're both beautiful in your own way. It sounds like a lot, but if two of you can be such good friends in such a short time, why does it matter if some don't like you?" She tickled both of them a little bit behind their ears. "There will always be others that will love you!"

Aquitaine listened to Louvia though by the far off look in the fillies eyes she wasn't really sure she was actually talking to her directly. Still she didn't want to ignore her friend even if she was just simply talking to no one or nothing in particular. She could imagine, listening to the other fillies description of feeling a different breeze as opposed to being on the ground, and the apples she would find up there. It made sense to her, there was a different breeze to be felt on the beach then out her in the meadow. On the beach the wind was sometimes colder, cooled down by the vast body of water it traveled over and it almost always smelled of salt.

Nodding her head, Aquitaine both knew little of flying but possibly more than Louvia did. She was being taught how to read the clouds to know when it was safe to fly and while she would never know the joys of soaring high above the land that little bit of knowledge was interesting to her. And who knows, it may come in handy one day. As the conversation shifted, Aquitaine notice the sad tone in Louvia for only a moment before the filly was giggling and happy once more. She glanced over at Emile as the subject of the spear, and drawing with it, was covered. She had never seen a spear before yet she could imagine it would be able to draw in the sand, assuming one could hold it. "You can draw with your hooves too!" Aquitaine stated. "It makes bigger lines than my tail but it still works." Her brothers didn't have the advantage of a slim long tail like her, so when they joined in on the beach drawing they had to use their hooves to do so. It made their pictures much larger than her own but even though they often complained she was certain they enjoyed it in the end. "If you came to the beach I could show you some, they get washed away by the tide or blown away by the wind but you can always draw more!"

Her attention turned to Emile again and those words made her heart open up so much more. The mare was right! And while Aquitaine knew it still wasn't fair that others judged her, and likely Louvia as well, because of their different looks, what really mattered was those who did accept her. A smile beamed across the fillies mouth and shone in her eyes. Being accepted by her family, and by Louvia and Emile made all those negative encounters she had had and those she would likely have in the future mean nothing. With a giggle Aquitaine leaned close in to Louvia. "You're mommy is really smart, I like her." Her eyes ticked to Emile as she continued to whisper into Louvia's ear. "She makes me happy."
