Oh my god, I can't believe I didn't anticipate another Rejected Olympics. 1. Who did you support last time? I supported Barton! We were epic! 83 2. Who are you supporting this time? I'm torn between reaffirming my support for Barton and going for the IDG instead. If anyone has any spiritual advice for me I'd greatly appreciate it. 3. Anyone interested in the ACTUAL Olympics? I meant to make a post about it when it happened, but I've actually held an Olympic torch! I was incredibly lucky. And I know several people who are going to the games, despite the incredible cost. Can't say I'm TOO interested in all the athletic greatness, but I always like to watch the gymnastics. MAY THE BEST LEAST SUCKIEST TEAM WIN!

GO BARTOOOOOON!!! 4laugh
I always end up rooting for Barton (I think Ian and Rufus are the reason). We rarely win at anything, but we DID win in the 2008 Rejected Olympics!
When are the opening ceremonies for the real Olympics? I know it's in approximately 1 1/2 weeks, but I don't know the actual date.

Yeah, I've still got my gold trophy from 2008 83 Hold it with pride!~ We worked hard for it! According to google the opening ceremony is next Friday, the 27th. Yes, I had to google it... I live in Britain but... I've been coasting along with the absolute minimum of interest sweatdrop

@Jeayla: I think I joined Barton for the same reason XDD
@Lorika: Answering your question, this is actually my first rejected Olympics. But yeah, I'm supporting Barton! biggrin

SO! Just watched the whole Olympic opening ceremony, god knows why. In no particular order...
Highlights for me:
Golden rings The guy who played Brunel was very good Suffragettes, and the recurring emphasis on gender equality Giant billowing Lord Voldemort Rowan Atkinson Seeing all the costumes of the different nations and the women competing for the first time for countries such as Saudi Arabia Bringing in the Olympic Flag and lighting of the cauldron
Lowlights for me:
Entire technology sequence Entire NHS sequence Emeli Sande singing a funeral hymn. Me and my mum can't possibly be the only ones who've noticed SHE CANT SING!! Queen picking her nails instead of watching the GB team parade... disgraceful
??????:
Old fashioned businessmen in top hats doing choreography... actually the whole first sequence about the development of industry, while spectacular, was pretty "what the hell?" especially seeing geese and goats wandering around beforehand and not knowing what the hell they were there for Flying luminescent cyclists?? Queen and the most recent Bond skydiving out of a helicopter BECKHAM'S NEON BOAT Gigantic inflatable baby with a giant gash on its forehead??? The Exorcist theme playing over a segment on children's literature...??? (I know Tubular Bells is an iconic tune, but it's iconic of one of the most horrible mainstream horror films in history...) ...and so much more
I suppose in short - when it was good, it was very, very good. But those few good moments, aside from the entire last half hour or so, were few and far between. I did actually cry when the Olympic flag was being carried out by ambassadors and representatives of peace and hope, and when the cauldron came together. The overall message of unity it left was wonderful.
Everything before the parade of flags was a bit of a downward spiral though... of all the ways and all the things they could have celebrated about our country, honestly... it's like someone has been actively TRYING to make the games a laughing stock, choosing a ridiculous emblem and mascots and then idiotic, pointless stunts for the start of the opening ceremony. Billions of people watching... *mutter*
I suppose the overall feeling I took away from it was negative, because of all the silliness and pointlessness. I just KNOW there are better ways to celebrate the NHS than a stupid dance routine with trampolines, and the development of the internet with a cringe-inducing "love story" and txt tlk. What the hell message was that supposed to give anyway? Britain: A Nation of Idiots on Facebook?
...Anyone else see it/have opinions? 8D
