Ever since Prom, when the little undead ghoul had tapped him on the shoulder and had thus unknowingly rekindled the skinwalker's interest in the school itself, Nuk had been almost eagerly anticipating the day when he could see Amrita again.

Truthfully, Nuk had never intended to stay; in the time he had been away, Amityville had become something so much more important than the small, carefree school it had been when he had joined, the classes he had blown off becoming real, true places of learning, where only the best and brightest studied. What had been a joke to him was now the dream of so many bright-eyed, tight-stitched prospective students, all wishing to attend the well-renown institution. And while things had changed for him, for all he had matured, as he'd stepped into the beautifully-lit auditorium, filled with elegant ball-gowns and slick suits, the skinwalker had realized it just hadn't been enough. He wasn't cut out to be a student, much less one of their caliber; Nuk knew himself well enough to know that at the first hint of a challenge in the material, he would revert back to his old habits, skipping class and snickering at the keen focus the other students were able to display, if only due to an unbridled jealousy at their academic excellence. What's worse, all of his friends were a year ahead of him, a shame which would only progress this impulsive need to sneer at the world and pretend, for all it wasn't true, that he could care less.

And then he'd seen Amrita. Strong, beautiful Amrita, who had gone from being tiny and fearful to an elegant, confident ghoul who had persevered, despite her insecurities. Unbeknownst to her, in that moment she had become to him what he had never realized he was to her.

Now all he needed to do was ask her if she would tutor him.

Unfortunately, after that evening, they had both proved to be very busy. Being a Year Three now, Amrita had far more responsibilities, both classes and social engagements she had to attend to. She couldn't just put aside all of the things she had worked so hard for, certainly not for a flake of a monster like him. And Nukpana himself had busily worked on his own readmission to Amityville, filling out paperwork (of which Arel seemed to have mountains of,) and working out dorm details. Admittedly, she had arguably been more diligent than he had been, (he'd spent a great deal of time 'losing' paperwork he didn't feel like filling out, and therefore having to redo it,) but that was beside the point. So the days crept by, with no sign of the skinwalker, nor any sign that he intended to fulfill his promise to her.

That was, until today.

Thanking a zombie boil for opening the door for him, Nuk slunk quietly through the undead halls, seemingly unaffected by the chill of the air and the tile beneath his bare feet. Many things had changed about Amityville in his absence, but that certainly wasn't one of them. The undead seemed to like to cold. Or just really didn't want their limbs to rot any faster than they already were. This in itself cheered him up a bit, the familiarity with which he regarded the dorm building lightening the monster's mood, and Nuk let his glowing amber eyes slide curiously over each of the door frames, searching for the one he recognized. There were a few that met that description, many of which he was surprised he could remember -- he'd purposely avoided a certain Pricolici's hallway, taking the long-way around to get to Amrita's door -- but for now he bypassed them, making a mental note to perhaps see a few of his old friends later. Instead, he found himself automatically stopping in front of a familiar oak door, his own large frame facing it and pausing for a moment before lifting one fist to rap a little loudly against the wood with his knuckles.

Amrita had been busy, very busy. It was the sort of busy that kept her running off her feet - which was something she admittedly enjoyed a little too much - but no matter how busy she had gotten, she was always looking through the crowd. There wasn't a time where she was too busy to actually take note of those around her, searching for a certain skinwalker. As time wore on it became unlikely that she was always just missing him, and even though the worrying gnaw of He's gone again had planted itself in her mind, she still kept looking. Why bother filling out yearbook and showing up at Prom if you weren't going to attempt school again?

She knew Nuk wasn't the best student, but she also had an incredible amount of faith in him.

The worrying gnaw didn't stop her from looking. There had been a few times that she stood in front of his dorm room (the number so easily supplied on his Yearbook form), staring at the door and almost - almost - knocking. She missed him, the boil who somehow managed, in such a short time, to become the Brother she never had. No matter how many times she ended up on his doorstep, her resolve always broke just before her knuckles hit the wood; what if he didn't answer? Sure, he could be out...but what if he was more than out? What if he was gone? She wasn't sure she could handle losing another friend.

Amrita didn't know it, but today would be the day she would stop worrying about him. Nuk did what she couldn't bring herself to do, but it likely didn't receive the answer he might have been looking for. From the moment he stood in front of her door, he would hear light shuffling from inside; when he knocked, Amrita's voice rang out not in greeting, but in strained terror. The door flew open with near-perfect timing, the patchwork managing to stop herself inches from running clear into the broad chest of her dear old friend.

It was an almost familiar scene; the terrified Vetala staring up at him with her grey eye wide. The recognition that flashed through her frightened features before she tore her gaze away to look behind her. What was different though, was there wasn't a little gem floating behind her; it was a fully fledged little Death Charm, stumbling and swaying with each step, occasionally pawing at it's face. It sneezed a short burst of flames, and Amrita let out another yelp, practically leaping into Nuk's arms.

If Nuk had had any concerns that Amrita might not be home, they were immediately quelled by the soft, muffled sounds of shuffling which could be heard from the other side of the dorm room door. That, in itself, was reassuring; while he had had no real concerns that she would avoid him on purpose, the thought that she might be either out for a class or with some of her other friends had crossed his mind more than once, and was a very valid concern. This was made worse by the fact that the skinwalker hadn't even considered this possibility until only a few moments before, as he made his way along the twisted, winding walkways towards the undead dorms, the forethought of calling her ahead of time to make sure she would be home having escaped his rather dull mind completely. Although there was still the possibility that while she was at home, she was still busy, either studying or perhaps with company (he refused to think of this in the sexual connotation -- Little Sister could not have romantic company, that was impossible, he would beat the s**t outta them,) Nukpana had relaxed regardless, ignoring it as he did anything else which proved to be problematic for him.

What greeted him at the door, however, wasn't quite what he expected at all. Although it was rather familiar...

Lifting his eyebrows a little as the door swung open with a surprisingly amount of force, Nukpana rocked back a little on his bare heels as Amrita appeared not a few inches from where the door had just been, startled a little by the unorthodox greeting. For a second, he was speechless; he had fully planned on greeting her the way he always had, with a cocky, almost goofy grin and a little ruffle to her hair, as was dictated by their very sibling-like relationship. This new development, however, threw him for a loop. Instead, he merely stared at her in surprise, watching in bafflement as the undead ghoul tore her eyes away from him to glance over her shoulder again, as if being chased by something horrific. Which, naturally, prompted him to look. Leaning a little to the side, the skinwalker cocked one eyebrow as he stared past her into the room, the look quickly shifting as he caught sight of the dragon-like minipet, his eyebrows furrowing slightly in even more confusion.

A minipet? Now this really was familiar, why did he feel like he'd done this before...

It was the yelp, ultimately, which prompted him to action. Jerked out of his reverie, Nuk reached forward just as Amrita leaped, scooping up beneath her knees and behind her back to catch her in his arms, lifting her away from danger. It was also then that he realized where he'd seen this before, and why he was getting a strong sense of deja vu. Grinning broadly, the skinwalker flicked his eyes from the minipet back down to Amrita, stepping into the room and shutting the door with his foot.

"Some things never change, huh?" He teased gently. Lifting his bare foot again, he hooked it under the Deathcharm's little body, nudging him away as best he could on one foot while still balancing a girl in his arms. "Down boy."

Amrita had no doubts that Nuk would catch her, nor did she fear him putting her down to the mercy of the fire-sneezing Death Charm. This was familiar, only she was now much too big to sit and tremble on his shoulders; trembling in his arms was a-ok though. His tease received nothing but a strained whine, the mere sound of another sneeze enough to make her turn her head and bury her face into the crook of his neck.

DC let out a horrible, deep rumbling growl; he sounded angry, so angry, and yet there was not an ounce of malice in his body language. His angled mouth was open, white hot tongue rolling out of it's mouth, tail wagging; this boil was fun! When the foot pressed under his belly he went limp, putting all his weight on the offending limb until he was nudged aside, where he rolled over like a log. One last roll and DC was on his belly, giving a few deep inhales before releasing the loudest, most flame-spewing sneeze yet.

It only made Amrita cling tighter to Nuk, shivering in his arms. "H-he stuck his nose in the fish food." She explained into his shoulder, her muffled voice absolutely miserable. "Been sneezing ever since..." And as a flammable Undead? That was terrifying. Soon enough she realized that DC had stopped sneezing (and really, had chosen to lay like a ragdoll where Nuk had nudged him), and she peeked out from his shoulder as though trying to judge if the war was actually over.

It was, and she turned her head to actually look up at the boil, blushing sheepishly but still smiling happily. "My hero!" She cheered, not even going to try to save face; she acted like a scareling but come on, DC was sneezing fire! She was undead! That was like...a health hazard! "Good to see you again, I was scared you weren't coming back~" Amrita wriggled in his arms, trusting him to not drop her while she sat up a little straighter, wrapping her arms around his neck for a big hug. "I missed you!" Even if she did see him at Prom, it didn't really make up for the months he'd been missing from her (un)life.
