The Negaverse was still a new concept to one of its newest recruits. Lt. Kyanite was barely able to wrap her head around the fact that her cousin was dead, let alone that he was one of the leaders of a secret subculture of earth warriors destined to battle aliens to save the world when he had been alive. It sounded like the plot of a movie that she might rent on a rainy night, not a future career. And now, whether she liked it or not, Kyanite was part of that mission. There was a part of her, a small part, that felt proud to be in the same organization that Eden had been, but another part of her felt only terror. Risk-taking had never been the teenager's style. Now, it was sort of her job. Learning the ins and outs of the Negaverse was still an on-going process. Kyanite purposely avoided going out in the streets in her uniform on her own. It wasn't safe, and she was hardly ready. But at some point, Kyanite knew that she needed to become brave enough to venture out on her own, even if just for a little. In the company of other Negaverse agents, she felt strong. Alone? She was a blip waiting to be extinguished by the senshi at large -- fighters that she had been led to believe would sooner rip out her throat than leave her planet in peace. Standing in the shadows of a narrow alleyway, Kyanite had done the unthinkable -- she was out of Negaspace in her uniform. Sure, it had only taken her weeks to do this, but she had done it. If only her knees would stop shaking. Her training had helped her confidence a little bit, but her personality was still crippling -- Renna did not take risks and was as high-strung as a kite. Becoming a vigilante for justice was simply not something she felt born to do. Still, her job was to do as she was told, and soon, she would have her own energy quota and her own expectations. The training wheels would be coming off. And Kyanite still couldn't bring herself to walk down the streets of Destiny City in her uniform. So, tonight was time for her to dip her toe in the pool -- she would stand here, in the shadows, in uniform, for thirty minutes. Then it would be back to business as usual.

Tonight Albali was going to learn a valuable lesson on her road to personal strength so that she could confront Ares, she simply was not aware of it yet. As always she was patrolling on a Wednesday night, through the customary circuit, hoping that she might catch a brush of Princess Ares' aura while all the while cursing herself for that same hope. Because she was so focused on the feel of a single aura she did not, at all, notice another until it had all but slapped her in the face with how close it was.
It didn't feel like a senshi, it didn't feel like a dark senshi it was just...dark. Dark and not very powerful so maybe it was a youma? There wasn't any screaming, any monster or animal noises, but that didn't mean that there was not a monster waiting around the corner that would gladly rip her heart out of her chest and devour it whole. Some youma were as sneaky as their masters had a tendency to be and a girl had to face those sorts of threats head-on. Jogging on the balls of her feet to get used to the stride the senshi of Echoes came flying around the corner of the building into the shadows where Kyanite was standing and trying to gain confidence.
Darkness obscured her features so when the backhand flew out, Albali's face registered a bit of surprise to note that the figure seemed fully human. Negaverse officer? Oh hell, she didn't want to fight those unless she had to! Then again an officer was just as likely to rip out her starseed as a youma was, on top of being far smarter and at times even more aggressive. What to do?!

Lt. Kyanite had been prepped briefly on how senshi auras felt. She was still getting used to it, like a child with braces freshly learning how to sense that there was food lodged in them. It was so new to her that she didn't even notice an Order aura in her vicinity. She was too busy staring at the boots on her feet and breathing heavily. That was, until she got slapped across the face.
"Ouch," she snapped, head clinking against the brick wall behind her as she tried to recoil. Vibrant purple eyes flashed open and focused on a white-bodiced girl clad in ribb -- holy crap, it was a senshi. A SENSHI.
Renna's head immediately began to do an 'I told you so' dance. She always avoided risks because she knew that terrible things could happen. And here she was, taking a risk, and guess what -- SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAD HAPPENED.
Letting out a surprised squeak, Renna sunk to her knees. She had no idea how to fight, beyond some simple lessons so far. Instead, she went to first thing that popped into her.
She tried to tackle Albali to the ground.

Somewhere there was being directed an epic comedy where Albali was in the lead role and Kyanite was her foil, that was the only thing that made sense and yet the girl's mind rejected it immediately. That involved thinking of a higher power that was not physics or gravity thus it was not a thing that existed. But if it did, it had a gross sense of humor and she wanted nothing to do with it in any case. Kyanite had hopped up and tried to use what force she had in her body to tackle the Senshi of Echoes to the ground not realizing that it was probably one of the sillier things to do.
Push? Push would have put Albali down but kept the lieutenant in the prime position to get the hell out of there or stomp on the beribboned senshi. Tackle only served to have Albali falling back on said beribboned backside with Kyanite on top of her for a long enough span for them to both feel just a little bit awkward. "Sweet Sagan you're heavy." She muttered as her bruised backside (thanks so much Requiem!) hit the pavement with two sets of weight on it.
Hands got between their bodies easily, white fingers readily visible on the dark charcoal of the lieutenant's uniform before force pushed her up and off the other girl. Long enough for Albali to roll to her feet and sigh. "Can you not do that again? You can punch or something but falling just hurts and doesn't do anyone any good." Well it would wear the skin off her bottom and bruise her to hell and back but that wasn't much a goal for anyone. Unless the point was for her to fall and never get up?
Yeah, no, she wasn't going to indulge in that one.

Kyanite had no battle plans beyond her initial tackle. It was the exact same logic that children used on the playground when frustrated. That was her battle prowess: slapfighting. When Albali pushed her off, Kyanite scuttled backwards, hopping back up into what she hoped was a fairly intimidating battle stance. The length of electrical cord that served as her weapon was looped through the ribbon at her waist. The girl frantically snatched it free, holding it in front of her as if it were a shield.
"Stay back," she snapped. "I am an agent of the Negaverse."
The girl might as well of put a sticker on her uniform that said: Hi, I'm new!

Tongue in cheek Albali relaxed just a little bit, endless practice and the ruthless voice of her captain in the back of her mind keeping the senshi standing at the ready to get the hell out of the way in a moment's notice. "An agent of the Negaverse? Oh well then forgive me, I thought you were just possibly perhaps a burglar or something far worse." Making fun of the newbie Nega probably wasn't the best thing to do when you'd just backhanded her and were trying to lightly alliance yourself with the group on a whole. It didn't matter how unimportant lieutenants were in the scheme of things; she might have a friend who was a bit more important.
Clearing her throat a bit to kick out most of the amusement and suppressed laughter Albali held up her gloved hands in an 'easy now' or 'stop' gesture. "I couldn't help the urge. I almost decided to introduce myself as Princess Serenity but boy did that just seem a little out of line. Let's just go with the concept that I'm sorry I smacked you, I don't want to fight, and go from there. I'm Sailor Albali. You are?" Talking was good, though whether or not this lieutenant was high enough on the intelligence scale to talk back was going to be a fifty/fifty chance at best.
Oh well. The Senshi of Echoes was at least reasonably sure that she could kick this girl's backside back and forth across the street if it was necessary. Brand new lieutenant versus experienced super senshi, albeit one without a real power? Fifty/fifty.

The fresh lieutenant still had her weapon at the ready. Granted, her "at the ready" wasn't exactly threatening, but Kyanite had decided to commit to the role she was playing, especially if it kept her safe. She knew enough about the senshi at that point to recognize the name Serenity. Her response was a snort, a contemptuous one she hoped. Truth be told, Kyanite was still not entirely educated on the background of the moon princess.
She was even less educated on why in the world a senshi would want to know her name. It just seemed like a trick. Clearly this girl would try to befriend her and then kill her at a moment's notice -- just like they had done to Eden.
The dark-skinned girl did not relax her position. "I am Lieutenant Kyanite of the Negaverse," she said stiffly. It occurred to her that repeating 'Negaverse' again was not exactly painting her as a battle-hardened warrior, whoops. "I am here to protect Earth." She paused. "From you... people. Space is your home; this is mine. If you would just go up there and stay, it would be fine." This was Kyanite's way of battling.

Oh goodness it was one of those. Albali was close to putting her hands over her face and groaning at what she thought was a bullshit bit of semantics. A thousand years ago they were born in space (supposedly) so they were supposed to go live there now? Even though you couldn't live there if you were powered down because not all planets had breathable air for a normal human being, there were no people, and you couldn't even read some of the books in the libraries on said planets? Sailor Albali remembered the ******** of confusion that had been the Surrounding and wanted nothing to do with her own planet.
Instead she just folded her arms as if she were a schoolteacher about to painstakingly explain a concept for the twelfth time. "Yes I am aware that is the company line as far as you all are concerned and really it's a brilliant idea. The only problem is that I just can't figure out how to take my piano with me and that's a deal-breaker. Do you think you and your friends would be willing to help me move it?" Quirking her lips a bit in a smile, then a laugh, the ribboned senshi shook her head.
"I'm not really keen on being a senshi you know. Unlike you lot who got to choose your allegiance, we're just cornered by crazy talking kittycats and told we have a 'duty to perform' or something equally ridiculous. I've been a senshi for almost three years now and I'm still not entirely sure what that duty is but I've a fondness for Princess Ares. Have you met her yet?" Not really paying attention to Kyanite anymore, the senshi of Echoes laid out some of her agenda.
It was simple, really. "She has her head on straight and I rather like how she thinks. She's just being a little stubborn at the moment. Ares is your ally, I want to be on her team, and that makes me your ally. Somewhat." Not to say that she wanted to go have tea together or anything but certainly she did not want to fight. "Sound alright to you?"

Despite the senshi's seemingly gentle facade, Kyanite did not drop her guard. She was overcareful as a civilian. It was only magnified as an agent of the Negaverse. Her electrical remained taut in her grip. She eyed Albali warily as the girl joked sarcastically with her, but softened when she described her own origins.
Kyanite's memory of her corruption was spotty. She could recall waiting to meet the boy with information on Eden, being whisked up to the roof, the conversation with Zinkenite, then -- a big, white splotch of nothing. From what she had learned from other agents, corruption was incredibly painful. It wasn't a memory that Kyanite missed. Still, she knew enough to know that her conversion wasn't exactly voluntary. "Not all of us volunteer," she countered. "Not all of us have much of a choice." She paused. It was plainly clear she was talking about herself. "I asked for the truth, and I was given power to defend Earth. I didn't know that was what I was asking for when I did. But I know that this is something that I was meant to do. Before, I couldn't protect Earth. Now, I can." Her words were clear, but they lacked confidence. Kyanite was too new to the Negaverse to be entirely clear on her convictions.
She was, however, interested to hear more about Princess Ares. "I know of her, yes," she said. She didn't want to admit that she hadn't actually met the parallel princess. Part of her Negaverse education had included an overview on the other aspects of the Chaos Army. She knew enough to know that the parallels fought on the same side, but weren't to be totally trusted. She also knew that any senshi who seemed susceptible to corruption was a target of that court. And here was a senshi who... wanted to be corrupted?
"You want this?" Kyanite thought aloud. "I mean, of course you do. You realize that we are fighting on the side of justice."

Not much of a choice but still a choice. Of course when your options were join or die it seemed like there wasn't an option but if you were wholly convinced that what was happening was wrong and were willing to die for your ideals? Well it was still some kind of choice. Nobody had told Albali that she could have walked away from that cat, could never have henshined up, could have denied the whole thing and run away or perhaps even died. Much of what happened to make her into a senshi was a haze of fear and then disbelief so the details were fuzzy.
Maybe she had had a choice, but it wasn't one that she could see at the outset so that didn't make it really a choice at all. Hindsight was almost x-ray strong but it didn't amount for anything after the fact! Fighting on the side of justice was perhaps a bit strong for what Albali's ultimate goal was but she didn't say that to Kyanite. Instead all that she did was nod briefly. "Yes, I want it. I made a vow that I would follow her lead no matter where she chose to take me. To remain on the opposite side of the line from Princess Ares is a violation of my vow and I don't take those kinds of things lightly. I don't make promises I can't keep." There was no need to get her personal feelings involved at all because the stronger impulse was that she was not keeping her end of the deal.
She'd made a promise, she was breaking that promise, and it made her deeply uncomfortable to think about that fact. Albali had to be stronger, had to be worthy, because otherwise she was only as good as her promise made her. A broken promise which made her nothing at all.
"That's the long and short of it for me but part of that means that hurting you is hurting the allies of my captain. That also violates my vow so unless you force me to, I don't want to hurt you. I'm sure you can understand that reasoning. You seem intelligent enough."

Her arms were getting sore from holding her electrical cord at a taut angle. Gradually, she eased them down, though her hands still formed fists on either end. "Then what is the problem?" Kyanite asked, confusion on her face. "If you want to join the Dark Mirrors, then I'm sure they'll take you. It is their mission." It had, in fact, been the main thing that had been stressed to her in her early Negaverse education.
A thought sparked in Kyanite's mind. "I could take you to her!" she said, a bit too quickly. "Well, not me. But I could go ask my superior to take you." Would this get her some Negaverse brownie points? The girl certainly hoped so.
Besides, Kyanite reeeeeally didn't want to fight.

Albali grinned at the offer and wondered what Princess Ares would say when a brand-new Negaverse lieutenant and whomever it was that had her under their wing showed up with a senshi eager for corruption. Would she be able to turn them down then? Really the whole thing, even if Ares did toss her back through a mirror into her bedroom in rejection, would be worth just seeing the look on her face when it happened but it wasn't to be.
It wasn't going to happen because just as the Senshi of Echoes started to accept the offer of 'take me to your leader' in a roundabout fashion, something pinged against her magical senses. There was a Super Senshi of some indeterminate power coming their way and she was moving rather quickly which meant either running somewhere important or running towards them which was a problem. "Bloody hell listen, I don't know if you can feel it but there's trouble running our way. You're going to want to either power down or get the hell out of here as a friendly warning because I'm probably the only one who is nice enough to introduce myself and have a chat." And that was understating things by quite a lot, honestly.
"It was nice to meet you lieutenant, perhaps we'll speak again some other time." With that, the beribboned Albali turned on a golden heel to start running down the street, vaulting onto a low outcropping to hit the rooftops at speed. Damn interfering White Moon senshi, ruining her night!

Just as Kyanite had begun to taste the first whiff of burgeoning Nega-success, Albali took it away by sprinting off in another direction. The new lieutenant might have taken a moment to think about whether or not she should mention Albali's name to her superior, but there was imminent danger approaching -- and Kyanite was really not prepared for any danger. Without a goodbye of her own, the teenager sprinted off in the other direction, transformed back into regular old Renna as fast as she could, and then headed for the nearest well-lit area. Albali might not have tried to kill her, but she still would never trust a senshi.
