It hadn't been too long since that day they were in the lockers, finding the ones that belonged to the Defenders of old. The box Shun had found in Vel's locker remained closed all this time. He couldn't figure out how to open it. But for the most part, it hadn't been particularly a great concern of his. The box rested on his nightstand, unopened for some time.
It seemed it would remain that way as well.
Sitting at the edge of his bed, he was just speaking with Mitsu, showing her the picture Lizzy had given him.
"The man in this photo is her father, apparently. He had been working under cover within the Family... up until he was found out," he explained quietly. It was a very strange situation to him. He still didn't quite know how to feel to know that his Family was the one responsible for the loss of Lizzy's father. In part he had to wonder who else in the school the Kuroda had affected.

Sitting across from Shun Mitsu looked to the picture he was holding out to her taking it gently in her grasp. Any other time she would have been excited to see a photo of her reaper in his younger years but the story that came with this photo was sad. It actually touched home a little, her finger lightly toughing the elder man's face. "He looks like he would have been a caring father." She could see the smile lines in his features and thought back to the photos she had of her own father and mother.
"So....he's gone now?" Mitsu asked softly, her fingers tracing down to touch the photo of Shun's younger face. "It must be hard for Lizzy...even if it happened so long ago."

"From what I heard, he was a pretty good man," he said quietly before looking Mitsu over.
"He is. Kaitou wouldn't have allowed him to live," Shun explained as he looked back at the picture, "I don't know how Lizzy feels about all of this, but I'll be trying to see if I can find out more. She wanted to know where he had died at the very least so she may pay her respects."
He hadn't gotten around to contacting anyone in the Family about that yet, but he hoped it wouldn't be too hard to find that particular information. While he thought about it, he suddenly heard a soft click in the room.
"..."
What was that?

"It's sad to think about. I hope you can find out something for her though. Not knowing is sometimes more torturous. There's no closure even if the truth is painful." Like with her parents and her brother who just....went missing. Mitsu often wished she knew what had happened even if the truth was painful. All she could do was think and wonder.
The soft click was the only thing to draw her from her thoughts, her ear pivoting in the direction the noise had come from. Turning she looked around before regarding the small box on his nightstand.
"I'm...not sure. It came from this way."

Silently, Shun placed his hand over her own as she said that. He hadn't forgotten that she was without her family, unknowing what had happened to them. A small part of him was worried that the Kuroda might have been a part of whatever happened there. Would she look down on him if that were the case?
Shaking his head, he squeezed her hand gently, then turned to see what was the sound. Peering at the box, he noticed that the lid was opened.. slightly ajar.
Furrowing his brow, he slowly reached out for it.
"It's unlocked..." he said, sounding a little puzzled. Glancing to her, he slowly opened it up to see what was inside. It looked like there was a small vial of sorts within. Carefully, he picked it up to exam it.
"Strange. I don't recall Vel having anything like this."

Squeezing Shun's hand lightly she watched him turn to the box on his nightstand before retrieving it. Inside he found a vial and she tilted her head at it curiously. "We only saw a small part of their lives," Mitsu remembered the picture and never would have guessed how close Vel and d**k were to Quin. The picture suggested they had been friends. "Maybe its something she got long before what we saw?"
Reaching out a hand she poked at the vial. "What do you think it is?"

"True.."
It might have been something from before. In which he had to wonder what its significance was. Shun looked the vial over some more before opening it up. There was a liquid inside that glowed. There was something about it that felt familiar. A strange sense of nostalgia.
"I'm.. uncertain," he said while offering to Mitsu. Perhaps there was a scent to it she could pinpoint.
"It's strange though."

Taking the vial Mitsu peered inside first to look at the glowing liquid contained within before sniffing at the contents. "It....smells like water." But it didn't seem like water. Other than the fact that it glowed. "It kind of reminds me of the water in that cave Quin and the others found."
If she hadn't been burned in Red's office with strange liquid in bottles Mitsu might have been tempted to try it...but she really didn't want to be dissipated into the nurse's office. Not to mention it had been sitting in Vel's locker for...how long? Instead she held it back out for Shun to take staring at the box she had gotten it from. "I wonder if the box in Quin's locker had something similar..."

It kind of did seem like that underground lake. But it couldn't be from that. The memory they witnessed was the first time they had seen that place, and Vel didn't take any of the water with her.
"Maybe. It's hard to say," he said quietly while taking the vial back and capping it. The way it glowed was a curiosity as well.
"I should probably hold onto this.. It seems.. valuable."

"Valuable? I suppose so." It was a rather fancy way to keep water otherwise. Why keep it in a locked box? "I wonder where it came from? It kind of makes me think of somewhere...far away. Like in a storybook."

"That's one way to put it.." Shun said while gently placing it back into the box for now. He'll probably put it in his jacket pocket later on. Maybe there was a professor he could poke to see what it might be. Granted, he wasn't sure who he could ask.
"You've read many stories.. have you read anything about something like this?" he asked.
He knew some tales, but he wasn't familiar with them as a whole.

"Nothing like this in particular that I can recall." She paused to give it some thought though but most of the stories she read were made up though a lot of them were based on truths and every once in a while she would read history. "Poke was telling me about how her family used to sink pirate ships. Maybe she would know something about it. Or umm...doesn't Jericho keep things? Maybe he knows." Though the dragon wasn't the friendliest toward Shun.

"I would prefer to avoid Jericho if possible," he stated. The dragon had some issues with him and whatnot. Shun did consider maybe prodding Poke about it.
"If this is something like that from a tale... I wonder what its significance would be. What sort of things happen usually?" he asked her.

"Well....Poke mostly told me how the pirates threw people overboard and fed the sharks and how her family often pulled the ships under and looted them." She told Shun a bit of the story Poke had told her. It had been a rather exciting tale minus all the obvious death. At the time Mitsu hadn't allowed it to sink in as real. To her it was still just that, a story.
"Do you think any of the teachers would know? Maybe Malcolm knows. He knew Vel and Quin right?"

"I meant the artifacts," Shun corrected. Though, he listened to the tale anyway. It was an interesting one to say in the very least. Hopefully though, he wouldn't be thrown overboard into an ocean. He would be in some major trouble if that were the case.
"You're right. Malcolm did know them," he recalled. And he was one of the only survivors.
"Perhaps it might be worth asking him when the chance arises."
