Race: Poe -- Poes are ghosts, formed expressly from extremely concentrated negative emotion. Their "souls" are carried with them in brightly glowing lanterns; a Poe cannot be separated from their lantern at any point in time. They generally bear little to no resemblance to the human that formed them beyond their general physical age--a female teenage human could totally become a male teenage Poe. They feed off natural emotional ambiance, and it causes no particular emotional drain on their surroundings. Poes have an aversion to all light that does not originate from their own lanterns, and have been known to fly into rages and attack people who introduce lights into their natural environment. Most Poes are named after musical terms as a matter of respect to their forefathers, Sharp and Flat.
Natural Ability: Intangibility -- Poes can, with practice, cause their bodies to become almost completely incorporeal for short amounts of time. Beginning Poes can hold this for no longer than twenty seconds, but the time which they can hold this state will increase with practice. They cannot be seen nor touched in this state. Their lanterns, however, stay 100% corporeal--because their "soul" and most of their FEAR is concentrated there, it's very difficult for a Poe to cause it to fade even the smallest bit. Only very old Poes can fade their lanterns.
Personality: The emotion that brought the Poe known as Lament to life was shame; xie reflects this in xir manner and attitude. Xie is prone to sarcasm when xie speaks and always--always--defers to others, no matter how stupid xie thinks they're being.
For all that xie isn't yet old enough to strike out on xir own, Lament is as world-weary as any Halloweener twice xir age. Xie feels profoundly that just about anything xie does is useless, and resistance is just a matter of making xirself feel... less useless. It's useless to question (xie won't get an answer anyway) and wastes time that could be spent by xirself, being useless in a way that doesn't get anyone in trouble, including xirself.
Xie doesn't have much tact, which only complicates matters more. Xie is a Poe, born from shame, and it doesn't help matters at all that xie so often finds that xie has embarrassed xirself. An encounter with Lala can be completely mortifying for both parties, or completely enlightening, depending on the other party's ability to overlook sometimes-paralyzing awkwardness. Most people need to learn how to state their mind; Lament has to learn silence, and xie is trying. Lament is uncomfortable in xir own skin, and doesn't quite understand xir powers and only has the most rudimentary understanding of where xie is and what xie is meant to be doing.
However, when encountered in the right mood, it can be a lot of fun to hang out with Lament. Xie truly enjoys physical activity, and can be a great team player as long as no one expects xir to take the spotlight. Xie has a great sense of storytelling and though xie's not a big reader by any stretch of the imagination, xie likes hearing and exchanging stories. Xir memory for stories and anonymous trivia is massive and populated with shitty puns, and xie has no problem with sharing them at any time with little to no provocation. Xie is also a great person to have along on a camping trip, being a great source of light in dark places. Xie tries to pay back all of the kindness done to xir, because xie believes xie doesn't really deserve it; with compliments, Lament tries to deflect them and turn them back on the people giving xir said compliments.
Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy? Lala is a fairly new Poe; xie manifested only a month ago, and has been enrolled in Amityville so xie can learn about xir abilities and responsibilities as a member of Halloween Town. Can't have a ghost wandering around who doesn't know Jack, right?
FEAR Ability: Nocturne [Functions as The Mind]
Lowers the opponent's accuracy by using the natural Poe tendency to try to turn out lights that are not their own lanterns. With concentration, Lala will darken the area around xirself and xir opponent, lowering the opponent's chance to strike.
Physical Description:
Eye Colour: Bright orange or yellow
Hair Colour/Style: Any darkish color suiting the design, but not flat black or dark grey. As for design, I am torn between long and loose or in some kind of simple undo.
Skin Colour: Black or dark grey
Clothing Style/Colours: Xie should have a hooded cloak, and preferably a really modest style of dress. Xir skull pin could totally be the clasp for the cloak? and i think a shortish cloak would be cute? but it is SO up to Pach
smile Extra: LANTERN. Xie must have xir lantern, since it's actually part of xir body, but size and design is completely up to the artist. Also, xie should probably be kind of intangible compared to xir lantern.
