Name: Lord Alexander Kinnaird
Age: 21
Occupation: A tutor for most subjects from mathematics to the piano; will sometimes take on odd jobs that don't demean his standing.
Family: William Hamish Kinnaird, Marquess of Oakberry, father, age 50; Rebecca, Marchioness of Oakberry, mother, age 44; Brendan Kinnaird, Earl of Whitewood, older brother, age 25; Lady Alice Kinniard, younger sister, age 7.
Appearance:
Tall, light haired and light skinned with eyes the color of oak leaves, Alexander (Or Alex, as he likes to be called by his family.) cuts a handsome figure in any crowd. His features are noble, with just a hint of foreign blood, which makes his face somewhat mesmerizing to look at. He dresses with taste and keeps up with the fashion, although never chasing after it blindly, and somehow manages to look both refined and warm. He is slender, but not in a way that defies his masculinity.

Personality:

+ A true gentleman.
Alex was born and raised in cultured home, and from a young age was taught to act accordingly to knightly codes of conduct. He will never insult or speak badly of anyone in polite company, and will resolve all his conflicts one on one, in privacy. To insult or in any way slight a lady is beyond his comprehension, and would be the only thing he would publicly demand satisfaction for. Dishonor of others, or disrespect of those lower than him in standing would be a stain of his own name, and is simply impermissible to Alex.

- Perhaps a bit too easygoing.
His reluctance to engage others in open confrontation can sometimes be a disadvantage, especially when his own interests are concerned. Someone with a tongue hung in the right place can convince Alex to partake in something... Shall we say shady, if they can persuade him that he is not actually committing a crime or slighting his moral code. For the same reason, he might be easily set up as guilty of a crime he did not commit.

+ A kindred spirit.
Alex can get along with nigh anyone - children, the elderly, peers, you name it! He is happy to talk about your interests and your troubles, and then help you out with a piece of advice or some physical help. It is for this reason he can earn for his living by tutoring children - he has a knack for making lessons interesting, and facts easier to remember.

- Self-critical to the point of self-hate.
Born a second son and always in the shadow of his elder brother, Alex has a severe inferiority complex. It doesn't show much, or, rather, he doesn't show it to others, but to Alex everything he does is second-rate at best. He can make himself re-do a lesson for the next day a thousand times at night, before he simply collapses from exhaustion, and will not forgive himself afterwards until his pupil smiles for the first time. As such he cares for the needs of others before himself, which, rather than raising warning flags, makes other think and speak better of him for his kindness, and that, in turn, just raises the bar which Alex sets for himself.

History:
Alex's father and mother were married when she was 19 and he was 25. It was a very profitable marriage for both sides, even if William proposed due to love, not political or financial gain: William's side of the family were a fairly new, but very wealthy, noble line of Irish descent - they were desperate to tie in with the other, older English lords. Rebecca's origins were one of the oldest in the country, but due to squandering of the family resources by the more recent generations, the family was flat out of money. It was a very happy marriage for both sides, and made happier still by the actual love between William and Rebecca - a true rarity. The same year of the marriage, Rebecca had delivered her first child - and, to the delighted cry of everyone who knew the families, it was a healthy baby boy. "Truly, the Spirits blessed this marriage," excitedly whispered the families, both of which have long forgotten how to follow the Old Ways.

When the couple's second son was born four years later it also brought celebration into the household, although it wasn't as grand as the first one. A second son meant safety in case of the first born's death or incompetence - not that it would be a problem. The four year old was turning out to be a bright young thing, resembling his father closely, unlike his younger sibling, who obtained all the features of his mother, full of curiosity and health. "Truly, a worthy heir," the servants thought, and catered to the young lord's every need.

The situation did not change as the two sons grew, which is not to say Alex was neglected, oh no, the loving parents always made sure to care for their younger child, and he loved them back as any child should. But it was obvious that Alex would never be as influential as his brother. He was a second son, who inherited no lands and no title - a nobody for whom the elder brother must provide, like a widowed aunt, or an insane grandfather. No matter what activity the two siblings participated, it was clear from the start that the raven haired, tan skinned elder would be superior.

Years passed, and the rift between the two brothers grew wider. Brendan started to joke and play tricks upon his younger brother - he considered himself superior, and made only the slightest attempts to conceal it. He excelled in all the kinds of sports a young lord should, and was a natural for studying. "How clever and strong he is!" cried all the maids, wooed by the dashing youth, neglecting to see how well Alex was learning, forgetting Alex was an excellent hunter. Only his parents and his tutors congratulated him on his achievements. A hatred began festering in his heart. Not for his parents, oh no, and not for his brother. Not even for the society which excluded him, forever condemning him to be nothing only by the fact of his late birth. It was himself he started to loathe.

But then an event happened that changed his life for the better. The couple's third child, a lovely girl, was born. For both of the brothers, it was love at first sight. They could spend hours playing with their new sister, gazing fondly into her chocolate eyes. A bridge, a great big bridge had spanned the rift between the two brothers, and the bridge's name was Alice. She grew, and with her the relationship between the brothers grew as well. Which isn't to say they get along dandily, even now, seven years later. It does mean they don't out front confront each other, and the older refrains from snubbing the younger one.
