Stopped on a roof top Benitoite's slate eyes looked down and across the street. What was he looking at? That was simple, the bodega, closed, had a flashing led sign in it's window display what time it was.
12:43 AM
That was what the sign read in glaringly bright blue light. It wasn't that late his mind supplied, not nearly as late as some nights he was out. But he was tired. He'd been busy lately with work and training, a date, and he'd been working, in his free time, on slowly repainting the horse. He needed to sweep, or in this case paint, away the hurt and loneliness he felt squeezing his heart every time he looked around the house. He needed to make it new, make it his, put his brand on it and give himself a seemingly clean slate without the memories of Lily and himself living here. He sounded like some love sick fool in his mind but he kept reminding himself he wasn't, how could he be? Lily was female and like a sister to him. He just...he missed her and needed to try and remove reminds remove all memory and make this completely his.
When she came back they could repaint it all again -together - and make it their home again. She may kill him for painting everything. He hadn't exactly told her what he was doing or planning to do, before he'd gone and picked paint colors and such, but he figured she'd understand and they could have fun repainting rooms again. Not for a moment did it ever cross his mind that he may be wrong, Lily knew him like she knew him so well he'd be surprised if she didn't come home and ask him what color her room was now, already somehow knowing what he'd done.
Shaking, mentally, these thoughts away he set himself back up straight and looked around the city skyline. It was a nice night, cool like a storm had swept in and broken a heat wave. There had been no storm though and no heat wave. It was simply a nice cool, breezy, evening.

There was something wrong with him, and he knew it. There was an emptiness inside him that was slowly eating him, and no matter what he did, he couldn't seem to shake it. Spending time with Annabel Lee could only give him so much comfort. She was a good dog, but she was also young and tended to wear herself out quickly, especially after going to a park or just jogging down the street.
Patrolling distracted him a little, but not enough for him to focus on everything around him. He felt as though he was just doing it to try and escape, but no matter what, the hole in his heart was still there.
Valhalla sneered at himself and his own thoughts, knowing he was rather pathetic for thinking such things. Here he was, still a squire after a year of doing this. Oh, he'd tried to 'upgrade' himself as he had before... Before there had been something preventing him as well, but even now he wasn't sure what had been the trigger. It wasn't a life or death situation, but... something inside him was keeping him from reaching the next stage of his powers.
Maybe he just wasn't ready...
A sudden wave of dark energy caught his attention and pushed his thoughts to the back of his head for a bit, long enough for him to look around him. He'd been 'patrolling' the alley ways... which was more like mindless wandering, but he hadn't felt anything chaotic until just that moment. It was close, maybe a block or so away...
Part of him told him to get out of there. This energy was clearly stronger than his own and he would easily be crushed if they so wanted to dispose of him... but another part of him had him wondering...
After promising himself to run if it was Painite, Valhalla lept up to the ledge of a fire escape, and then a few more leaps he pulled himself up onto the roof of a building nearby to where the energy was coming from. His hands lifted as a show of peace, the chain of his compass dangling over his thumb, the weapon bouncing, harmless, against his side. He knew it wouldn't be long before the other could sense him as well, if he hadn't already... Hopefully he'd be in a talking mood, rather than fighting.

It wasn't hard to sense them approaching, he'd felt them as they got closer. He wasn't worried though, he was confident in himself and if he needed to he could always teleport out. He almost hoped it was that green haired knight, he really did have a dislike for her which boarded on utter loathing. But he stood there waiting, his profile on view for whoever was coming. If it was that particular knight he knew he'd hear her before he even had a chance to turn toward her, her and her big mouth always going at him like she was his mother.
Sighing, a heavy and deep exhalation of air, he turned slowly. His cape fluttering in the cool evening breeze, his hair doing similar, as he caught sight of the knight he noted they weren't one he'd ever encountered. Well that was perhaps a nice change of pace, though he really had hoped to see that green haired one.
"Hands up in surrender or peace?" He questioned as he turned his whole body, rather than just twisting and turning his upper half toward them. Dressed as he was he looked short, made even more noticeable due to his uniform and his boots length, but he looked quite proper and even noble. But the darkness he let off would give away just what he was, not matter how noble and aristocratic he looked - he was not an innocent person.

Valhalla watched as the figure turned, expecting a woman what with the long hair and billowing cape, but was surprised by the voice. Although, that didn't mean anything. It was dark and he couldn't see details properly. This person could be either male or female, and he was none the wiser.
But... he was quite glad that it wasn't Painite. This person didn't seem like they were going to rush to attack him, thank goodness. If it had been Painite, he would have high-tailed it out of there.
"Peace," he said to try and prevent any other confusion. "I'm Valhalla of Jupiter..." he introduced, wary but also willing to try and talk to this person... a General by the feel of the energy coming from him.
He kept his hands up as he cautiously took a step forward, not wanting to push his luck, but also wanting to show that he wasn't going to run away. "You're a Negaverse officer, correct...? I wish you no harm... I just want to talk..."
Well, that, and to make sure he wasn't going to do anything dastardly while he was on watch... That would completely defeat the point of patrolling.

Chuckling he shook his head and held up a hand, to silence the other from further speaking. "I am not some child in need of assurances. I'm not afarid of you, I assure you I can easily hold my own were you of the mind to attack me." He wanted to get that out there first and foremost, as the other had sounded like he was trying to calm and assure some scared child or animal - neither of which he was.
"I am indeed a Negaverse officer, to answer your question. General Benitoite." He had never met, at leas tot his knowledge, a knight of Jupiter. This would of course find it's way into his notebook when he got home. And he even had a name to go with an appearance, that was a fairly rare thing. He needed to make sure that notebook stayed hidden under his mattress, so no one ever found it and perhaps figured out his double life.
"You want to talk...about what?" Sharp and serious but also cautious. What could this knight want to talk about? He wasn't worried about physical fighting but he was cautious about the conversation which could transpire.

"My promise not to harm you wasn't meant as a threat," he amended, unsure how to take the General's comment of being able to hold his own. He'd just wanted to make him aware of his intentions... But that wasn't the point. He didn't want to argue with him now that he knew he wouldn't be outright attacked.
"General," he repeated, glad that he could pick up on ranks through energy signal. It was an easy system once one got used to it. "I wanted to ask you... What is your mission...? Not personally, but as a general goal. I just want to try and make sense of it all," he tried to explain, feeling a little more brave talking to a General as a Squire than a Page.
"I've spoken to others of your rank," and possibly above... but he didn't dare mention Zinkenite, "And I wanted to try and figure out a way that we could come to some kind of truce... End the fighting and coexist."
He was ready to run at a moment's notice. If the General showed any signs of getting agitated enough to attack him... he was going to get out as quickly as possible.

"Oh, I didn't take it as a threat. It sounded as if a parent assuring a child." He stated calmly from where he stood, his eyes blinking but unwavering from the others form.
"Something that simple? You want to know the mission. What have others told you? It is likely the same as what I would answer you, perhaps with some deviation but likely not much." He spoke wondering how many others this squire had spoken to, and asked the same question of.
"End this...that I doubt, highly so. I doubt this can be ended or a truce be found less your kind find their ways back to space and remain there, where you all originally came from, or you convert and join our ranks." His voice, calm and cool as he took slow, practiced, steps toward the other. Heel touching the roof top first before the rest of the boot touched the cement. Over and over till he stopped close to the other, only a foot away.

He winced, not having meant that either! "I didn't mean to sound condescending!" he tried, although he figured it was too late to really fix anything. Instead he frowned sadly as he listend to what Benitoite had to say.
"How can we go back into space...? There's nothing there for us. The worlds were destroyed long ago. There's nothing but ruins. We can't go to places other than our own world... and even then, I don't think we have enough energy to take more than a few with us at a time. There are no supplies, and rebuilding would take... decades... It's just not possible in our lifetimes," he said, trying to convince the General that there really wasn't an option for them.
"I'm a knight... even in the past, I was born on Earth... Why can't we find a way to live on this planet together?" he asked, although he knew both sides were rather stubborn about their ideas.
Valhalla shut his mouth as the other slowly made his way over to him, straightening to his full height as if that would somehow make up for the differences in energy levels. Was he scared...? Of course... he would be a fool not to be concerned for his own safety, especially up against someone who was probably well versed in fighting. If he died then and there... he didn't think Paris would ever forgive him.

"They were destroyed because your sort left them." He interjected,. "That's what I was informed. Their destruction was the fault of those who called them home and should have protected them...not joined some war on Earth."
Of course he knew rebuilding would take time, he wasn't an idiot, but were any of them even trying? or had they all simply given up? Decided here was where they would remain and fight and in some cases look to bring back that Moon Queen No, he didn't like that idea at all, it simply wasn't acceptable. They needed to work on fixing the wrongs they'd created.
"Because, too many of your kind want to bring back a Queen who isn't even from here, who tried to rule over the peoplehere. It is because of her that this fight continues, because of senshi who seek her return." He sounded angry, but not at the squire, his anger was directed at the past and the one who was behind it all. The sort of anger that didn't burn hot but rather the sort that was cold.
"The youma you and your kind like to kill...you know what they really are?" He questioned, almost mocking but still with that edge of anger.

"Whatever happened there, it wasn't because 'my sort' left," he countered, although if he was honest, he had no idea what had caused such destruction on those planets... Valhalla was relatively untouched, although in disarray... Ganymede, though... it looked like it had been at the front lines of a huge war. Against what, he didn't know, but he could only imagine it had something to do with this Moon Queen everyone kept talking about.
"The senshi don't seek her return!" he argued, although he knew he should probably keep his disagreements to a minimum. He didn't want to get this guy angry enough to attack him... that would just... be had. "There are many of us who agree that we don't want someone ruling over us, much less someone who hasn't been by our sides this whole time... much less someone said to have started this war..."
As for the youma, he shook his head. "I was told they were friends of yours... not to be harmed... But I can't allow them to attack the civilians of this city like rabid animals... If they were under control and not causing any harm, then I doubt any of us would act to fight them."
He was still rather wary about how close Benitoite was to him, but he tried to keep on a brave face.

"They don't...really? You can speak for everyone senshi? Even those you don't know about?" He questioned, arms crossing over his chest and a foot tapped lightly on the ground. A bored, and unconvinced, expression spread across his features. "I highly doubt it. You shouldn't go speaking for all the senshi, and even Knights. I'm sure that amongst the ranks there are those who seek the Queen who caused all of this." He was quite sure of it, to think and assume otherwise was stupid.
He knew, had heard, one of their own had changed sides and become a knight. he knew senshi could be corrupted and turned dark. Were all Negaverse agents Knights who never got to be knights? Had they all been apart of that war so long ago and at fault, in some way, for what had happened? He hadn't thought of it before but speaking of the past and what had happened to the planets and that the senshi had caused it got him thinking. If that was the case he was at fault, in some way, for the war and the deaths which had transpired during it. That thought left a bitter and nasty taste in his mouth.
"The youma should never be harmed. They are honorable...the people, civilians, who rose up against the Moon Queen with no magic and the most basic of things used as weapons. That's what the youma once were. It was the Queen who made them what they are now, her power destroyed them, and to keep alive they need energy." So they went around feeding on energy from people. It was their part in the original war, what they had suffered, and what he'd seen trapped behind walls of crystal that had gained the youma his respect. He wanted to defend them.
"It all goes back to her" He didn't need to say who he meant, at least he hoped he didn't. Waiting and watching to see the others reaction, to see what effect his words had on the taller figure. A light smirk playing about his lips as e waited and watched. This really was almost a good as fighting Camelot or that green haired girl of his.

"No, of course I don't!" Valhalla nearly snapped at the presumption. "I'd just said that there are many of us, not every senshi!!" His temper was rising. This was dangerous. He did not want a repeat of what happened with Painite... and that had come about when he'd been talking peacefully to her, yet she insisted on attacking.
"Have you ever asked senshi if they're going to follow some Moon Queen?? Or do you just assume?" he wondered, doing his best to keep his exasperation-turning-anger in check. "I bet if you actually ask some senshi instead of just thinking that they want to aid some Queen in taking over the world, you'd find out that there's a lot who could care less about it, and just want to live without the threat of being killed!"
He couldn't believe he was having this conversation with this... this child! This guy couldn't be older than he was, and yet all he did was assume and twist his words and blame everything on some damn Queen that he didn't even think was alive! And if she was, she certainly wasn't showing herself!
"The youma are attacking others live rabid animals, General. I will protect this city, and if that means keeping the youma under control and the streets clear of them, then that's what I'll do."
Wolframite had tried convincing him that youma were harmless as well, but he'd seen the destruction they could cause... He saw what the giant youma did to the Surrounding and to many who were there to fight it.
"I also refuse to follow someone who won't stand by us and protect the innocent. If there is some Moon Queen watching us all from afar, she can go to hell," he added, not wanting Benitoite to think that just because he said he'd fight youma meant that he automatically aligned with this Moon Queen. Assuming there was one... which he doubted. "The past is the past, and if we don't protect the present, how are we going to build the future?"

"And I would risk myself to ask? I think not, I've no wish for death even if I accept it as a possibility." He stated calmly. Yes, death could come for him at any point. He would not go and actively seek it, whether one believed him fighting in this war was seeking death or not he didn't find it to be such. A war was a war and fighting was fighting. He wasn't jumping in front of attacks or picking fights with royals on the other side, that would be seeking death. Starting a fight with his own higher ups would be seeking death. He went into fights he knew he had a chance at winning, thus he didn't seek death. he just accepted it as a possibility.
He wasn't about to try and talk to every senshi he came across, he'd met a fair few who had it in their minds that attack first and talk later or not at all was a good idea. If he saw an opening to talk he would but other wise...well it simply didn't happen. Insults could always be traded but conversation and questions, not so much.
Waving a globed hand about he sighed. "Youma are harmless for the most part. They take energy, they need it, but other wise they are harmless." Then again he'd only seen them attack when sent to do so. He wasn't on the look out for trouble causing youma or seeking a fight with any that were out gathering energy for themselves, unlike the senshi and knights.
Staring at the other he finally broke out in laughter. "A very good place for her, perhaps if she turns up you and others you claim to share your opinion will help us send her there. The past is the past and yet if one looks at history it does repeat itself, even fashion trends." Of course he would know fashion trends repeated and came back from the depths of fashion hell, where many styles should remain.
"If she awakens, and history starts to repeat, will you stand and fight...or stand and talk? You won't support her...but what will you do? Will you protect the civilians...and even those who you may now call your enemy?" He questioned, watching and waiting. Like someone who was looking for certain answers and judging based on them. But he didn't loose his cool, not yet. "Will you let her create more youma?"
"Maybe there would be no war if it were not for the threat of the Moon's Queen and if not for those who do wish her return, wish to aid her. If not for senshi who believe in torture, as if we are less than human. If not for senshi waking perhaps we, normal civilians, would not be asked to join this war and would not agree. It all is because of her and the first senshi to awaken. Like domino's." The first one fell and more things happened. One senshi woke, the Moon Queen hung in the background like some giant looming shadow, and than more senshi woke, or was it that civilians were recruited into the Negaverse? Either way it all lead to this, to where both sides were now.

"Of course I'm not asking you to risk yourself! Don't be ridiculous!" Valhalla snapped although his voice remained level and not raised, no longer able to fully control his temper as this kid kept twisting his words to make himself the victim. "If you run into senshi who don't want to fight, then ask them! I'm not telling you to risk your life!"
He ignored what he was told about the youma, having heard it before and seen first hand that it wasn't true at all. Youma hunted those with starseeds and energy to syphon. He wasn't going to allow them to rule the city while innocents were getting hurt.
"I will fight for what I believe is right," he told the General, his temper simmering down for a bit, but his eyes were still slightly narrowed. "I always have protected civilians. And yes, if there comes an opportunity for me to stand up and protect you, or anyone, from being killed, then I'll do it."
Valhalla knew there was no way he'd be able to protect everyone. Not when he was stuck at a level lower than so many other, more capable people. But he was determined to stick to his own morals, no matter what the cost. If trying to stop the fighting gained him enemies from the senshi, then he was willing to deal with that when the time came. He knew not everyone was going to agree, but there had to be some kind of compromise they could work out between all of them.
"There is no Moon Queen!" he snapped once again in increased frustration. "The Blood Moon Court is finished! Ares did away with most of the members herself!" he added, although if there were others who were reforming the court, he had no idea. "They were a small band of senshi who believed in torture," or so he'd heard from Kallichore and Maia. "But you can't base your assumptions of all senshi and knights on the actions of a few senshi!"

Asking a senshi if they wanted to fight, taking the time for such, was putting himself at risk. Should he ask while throwing a punch or in the middle of insulting them? Really the concept was foreign to him and rather foolish if you asked him. "Foolish..." He whispered harshly, followed by a little snort of air. His own temper in check, he really didn't often loose it, he didn't like to loose control.
"Bravo, I wonder how many on your side fight for their beliefs as opposed to fighting because they are told to...by a talking cat no less. Cats who have no morals and bring children into a war, teenagers are bad enough but pre-teens - what a horror. I've heard of senshi simply told to fight by the cat who awakened them, at least I decided to fight and for my own reasons. Truly I do wonder how many fight knowing more than a simple cat tells them." He had not been forced into this war nor had he gone in blindly like it seemed some senshi did. "It is good though, you fight for your beliefs." And it was, even if he didn't agree. At least following your own beliefs and not someone else's was a good thing. He was loyal to himself and his morals, not someone else's.
"I will protect the civilians, I do already though not personally. Perhaps if the Moon's Queen, who once was and shall perhaps be again, returns we will fight side by side." He protected them by fighting but he'd never had to jump in front of some civilian in order to protect them. That he would do too if need be though. His job was to protect them after all, that was the goal of this war. At least it seemed the Knight and himself were on the same level with that, perhaps when it came to child senshi as well.
Tilting his head, just a bit, with an amused smile in place. "Yes, I did hear about them. They were quite...monstrous in their actions. I don't agree with their past actions but I know, and support, the truce we have with a few of those senshi." In fact, he was a good friend of Leto's and he knew she'd been involved in those atrocities, she'd told him as much. She was honest in telling him that fight night about her actions.
"I don't base my thoughts on a few. I base it on what I have seen and heard." It was why he did still think lowly of knights as a general thing, many seemed weak and just incapable. Stepping right up to the other, his steps remained as before, slow and measured, and he stopped right in front of the much taller figure. "What about you? Do you judge us all together - as a collective?"
