So, this was what it was like to fight himself? Wilson stood on his tiny two legs, his eyes staring through the green glass of the gas mask to examine the identical haztreat in front of him. This was unreal. Then again, being a minipet was just as unreal. He cocked his head to the side and his copy did the same. Curiously, Wilson moved his head to the opposite side and the other treat did the same—just like a mirror. But the mirror was flawed. There was something off about his so-called reflection. Wilson pointed a finger at the other treat. “No.” His voice was sharp and steely. Ears twitched when he could hear the soft voice of his other self speaking. He furiously shook his head, tiny paws covering his long ears. “No! Don’t say that! Stop staying that. You don’t understand at all. You just don’t. These are mine mine mine.” It took a second step toward him and Wilson shrieked as he lunged for the other haztreat, “You’ll never understand!”Stats Wilson Hopkins HP: 18/18 Faction: Hunter Element: Normal Keys: None Fragments: 1

It didn’t shriek. No, it was merely quiet. Silent, even. The treat barely uttered a sound as the tiny paws clawed at its tiny body. It flinched, shrunk back a bit, as if it truly believed that this was entirely its fault and that this is what it deserved—pain and injuries and shrieking lies. But then it straightened up its back as it grasped Wilson’s shoulders before tackling him to the ground. “Listen to yourself! This isn’t you at all. Where’s the old you?”

He shook his head furiously. This thing was speaking only lies. “What are you talking about? This is me!” insisted Wilson as he reached out to grasp its own shoulders. He attempted to push the copy off of him, but it was stronger than it looked. Even when he managed to throw it off, its grasp on him was tight. They clung to each other as they began to roll around. Wilson shrieked when he realized this was futile. They were going in damn circles over and over. This was going to go nowhere. He finally let go off the other treat and clawed at its mask. “What about you? Why didn’t you follow me? Its ears flattened. “Realize what?” Ignoring the pain, it pulled at the fluff around Wilson’s neck to pull him back down.

Wilson let out a cry of frustration while he clawed at the other’s mask. “You really don’t know anything at all, don’t you?” he snapped. “I knew it. I knew it I knew it I knew it. It laughed breathlessly. “I’d like to say the same thing back at you.” Wilson’s copy squirmed beneath his grip before it finally managed to push him off and scurry to a safe distance. It slowly turned around to look at Wilson. “You’re just deluding yourself.”

The words sent Wilson into another fit of frustration. He chased after the copy. “I’m not deluding myself! Shouldn’t that be the other way around?!” Wilson reached out to swipe at the other treat, which stumbled back a few steps from the hit. It clutched one side of its face. If he could, Wilson would have smiling. “You think you made the right choice, but you didn’t. These shards. His other self only let out a tired sigh. It gently removed its paw from its face and let its arm fall to its side. There was large gap between them and for a while the pair stared at each other with expressionless masks (pun intended). Finally, it spoke as it jumped into the arm, a hand pulled back. “Wilson, you have to wake up.”

He snarled at the other treat. “And what if I don’t want to?” Wilson snapped as he grabbed one of its arms and tugged the copy closer to him. He pulled again with more force until the clone fell to the ground. Wilson hummed softly as he kicked the haztreat. “Wake up? It grabbed Wilson's foot and gripped it tightly. Slowly, it lifted its head to stare straight at him. "You know what I'm talking about. You have to wake up, and you have to get yourself together."

His throat tightened. Wilson repeated himself again. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” It looked at him and cocked its head as if to say Oh really. “I don’t know what you’re talking about!” he yelled as he kicked the treat again. Frantically, Wilson continued to kick his clone around and around until it finally disappeared. He stopped, filled with confusion until he realized that he had beaten the other treat. He had beaten his imposter. Just before he was about to revel in his victory, something clicked in Wilson’s mind. Everything was ‘normal’ again. He brought a paw over his chest as he realized the pull of the shards had been a warning all along. There was a price for everything and he had only gotten lucky this time. Wilson shuddered, then he flinched as he tried to cover his eyes from the light. There were flashes of a scene. A forest. A staff and sword. Hatred. Wilson shook his head. He was still shaking his head even when the final burst of color came.
