 Madison growled as, once again, she was swept away - and she was ******** sick of the whole thing. Why the hell had she signed up for this crazy Hunter s**t anyway? Yeah, they'd saved the world, but <********>. If this was all one of Allan's crazy cosplay experiments, she was going to kill him. Possibly literally. She'd figure out the mechanics later. Madison... Kouki said, uneasily; he'd been calling her by her name an awful lot. Maybe to reinforce that she was still human, still his, even in this crapload of a body? Madison, there is something here - there!!The movement caught her eye too, and she whirled, to see the flick of a tail surrounded by fog. ********, she'd had enough of fogbeasts too. This one looked like the same species as she was, even, just colored like someone had eaten the 70s and then thrown up all over it. "What? Get out of here!" she snapped at it, irritated. It bared its teeth in response, and sank down into an unmistakable pose of aggression. ((Mechanics: Fragments x 2 = 16/16 HP; Keys x 3 = +3 modifier.))

"I think beating you up is going to make me feel all kinds of better about my ******** life." Madison shifted her weight, then sprang forward, still awkward and unused to this four-legged s**t (and god, she hoped that she wasn't going to have to get used to it). She smacked into it, driving down with all her weight and bringing her back legs down in a passable imitation of a disemboweling kick. Claws rasped, and the newcomer screamed and struggled.

The dragonkit's movements slowed, and for an instant, Madison thought she'd won. Then something punched into her gut, hard, and she gasped as all breath flew from her lungs. The blow pushed her up and into the air, and she landed hard, gasping. Madison!! Kouki cried.
I'm okay, she said, mentally, because she couldn't spare the breath for saying it out loud. The dragonkit had gotten to its feet, swaying, eyes locked on her. Hooboy. "Ours. They're ours," it said, dreamily, but there was nothing dreamy about that look in its eyes. That look was pure hatred.

We have to protect ourselves, Kouki snarled, and Madison felt him lash in impotent fury within her mind - as well as a gout of shame for not being able to protect her. Bite, bite hard-
Madison charged the aggressor, but the thing dodged and she only clipped it, ducking her head awkwardly to one side to try and scrape along its sides. Not very effective, sadly.

The dragonkit staggered, then sidestepped; Madison lost her balance and tumbled. "So weak, so pathetic, no wonder you couldn't claim them," it said, again in that weird, dreamy sing-song. "Touching them doesn't make them yours."
It leapt without warning; Madison tried to roll out of the way, but her reflexes were slowed by her damn four-legged body. Pain washed over her as the dragonkit sank teeth into her hindquarters; she kicked and managed to shake it off, but getting up was an exercise in torture.

"Get - get away from me," she snarled, tail lashing the air. She hurt, her hind legs sharp with pain every time she moved. No FEAR shield, no protection- ********, she wasn't going to die to a goddamn minipet, was she? That enraging thought foremost in her mind, she snapped at her opponent, catching one forepaw between her teeth and biting down, down, down until she both heard and felt something crunch.

The dragonkit screamed and tore its paw away, leaving bits of flesh and fur in her teeth - but she didn't have much time to contemplate how disgusting that was. Her opponent leapt, and then she was on the ground, pinned, long fangs sunk into her throat like knives. The pain was indescribable, and Kouki was shrieking-
- and then there was nothing but light, strange and reassuring and washing away all pain. Figures flickered against the light, and she realized, with a strange shock, that she recognized... not the figures, but the weapons they bore. The sword shone brightly, the staff... yes, yes, she'd seen them before, deep in the interior of Deus ex Machina.
A warning...
Madison closed her eyes.
