This is a private RP between: Amias and Gauvain Where: Hearts What's happening: Amias is visiting hearts where he encounters a pretty swanna!
Amias was content to drift silently beside his guardian while Hessner did his boring business-stuff in this unfamiliar territory.
That was before Hessner encouraged him to become familiar with the territory on his own. Amias didn't like being alone, but he wasn't willing to disappoint the cacturn, either. The young baltoy didn't protest as Hessner disappeared, and Amias clutched his scarf as if it would sooth is anxiety. It must have helped at least a little, because he managed the courage to begin an aimless journey. The foreign faces were overwhelming now that the protection and security of his guardian had left. These people definitely appeared different from the ones in Spades, and Amias began to wonder if it was even appropriate to fear them.
One thought lead to another, and Amias remembered the stories he'd heard about a so-called impressive library in Heart's castle. Amias didn't know where to start, but it'd be an easy fix if someone or something was willing to tell him where to find it.
"Where can I find the library?" Amias spoke the question to no one in particular. He patiently waited for an answer as he stood there, squeezing the scarf in his hands. The infant was completely clueless that this was not the most effective way to collect information from strangers.

Gauvain was, as per usual, patrolling the Hearts capital city. It wasn't that he was particularly interested in the queen, so much as he loved visiting the other faction and exploring and just pretending to be noble, just for a day. Unfortunately for the baltoy infant that Gauvain encountered, he had absolutely no idea where the library was.
"Oh, hello! Do you just... do that?" Gauvain asked, beaming at the infant. "I'm Gauvain, and I have no clue why you'd wanna go to the library!" Gauvain added. He did, in fact, hate books at this stage of his life; it would later change, as he realized that romancing was significantly easier the better-spoken he was, and thus he would one day benefit from knowing as much about everything as possible.
For now, he would rather stare at a wall uselessly than pick up a book. Unless it was about knights. Or fairytale creatures. Gauvain loved hearing about worlds outside of Wonderland where mythical creatures lived. "Perhaps we can find it together? Even though, really, there are so many better places. Like the courtyard! Or the gardens," he contributed, (un)helpfully.

"Hello." Amias repeated the greeting as he turned to see the approaching infant. He couldn't help but mimic the friendly expression with a smile of his own. "Do what..?" Amias was eager to answer the question, but he was uncertain what the swanna was talking about. Did he do something unacceptable to the culture of this territory?... or was he just squeezing his scarf too hard? Amias glanced down at himself briefly, but nothing seemed amiss, and the poor young boy was stumped.
"I'm Amias... I wanted to see the library because-..." The baltoy paused as he tugged at his hood, suddenly doubtful that his reasoning was acceptable or even valid. It's not like he had to reveal the reason though. Guavain didn't technically even ask...
The entire thought process was disrupted with the bird's next suggestion. He was struck when Guavain offered to find it together, and the awkward silence that followed made it obvious.
"Courtyard? Gardens...?" Amias tilted his head as he finally managed to continue the conversation. "How are they better than the library?" He was obviously skeptical, but he was equally as curious and eager to learn. "We could go to one of those places, instead..."

The smile just encouraged Gauvain all the more. Poor Amias, he never could have seen it coming. Gauvain's enthusiasm would just stampede over the boy, pretty much trampling him, unless he could stand up for himself soon. "Do you just.. talk aloud to yourself, when no one is there?" Gauvain cleared up any confusion there may have been. "Because why?" Gauvain asked, latching onto an unfinished sentence as per usual.
Gauvain fanned his feathers out and flapped his little white wings, as if enjoying himself and considering preening. "They're better than the library because they are outside, beautiful, and some of them have the Knights! The Knights are the best," Gauvain asserted, rocking on his feet.
"But I don't know, I guess if the stuffy library has what you're looking for, I can figure out how to get there," he said, sounding as though Amias had asked him to attend his own funeral. Hopefully sooner rather than later Gauvain would change his mind. Maybe, if the baltoy held fast and got him to go to the library, he'd realize the value of books?... Probably not, but it was worth a shot. It couldn't get worse than it already was, after all, could it?

Amias paused again as his fault was pointed out. He glanced down thoughtfully, the only movement came from the hand tugging further at his hood. It was a weird thing to do, how come he'd never noticed it before? Was he always so weird? When he finally decided to articulate a response, he peeked from beneath the thick cloth with a bashful expression. "W-well... You came, didn't you?" A small smile appeared, almost confident that this proves his methods weren't all too mad.
"It's because I like books..." The baltoy cringed and bit his lip as he realized he wasn't telling the whole truth. He quickly continued, not wishing to alienate this potential new friend from the get-go. "My dad has a library, too. I want to see if it's better than his." Amias briefly scratched his chin, wondering if the answer was sufficient enough. "I doubt it, though." He ended with a timid shrug, clueless that the only reason he believed Hessner's library was the best was because it was the only one he'd ever seen.
Amias listened in awe as Gauvain described these foreign places, only rather vaguely. "Knights? ...Mounted soldiers in armor?" It would be quite a sight, Amias could easily admit that. He wiggled at the thought of such an experience, but he couldn't let the excitement get the best of him. There was much more to do and explore in the Hearts territory than he realized.
"I want to see all of those places!" Amias gave the most stern a nod a timid boy could manage. "But I want to see the library first of all."
The brazen attitude quickly dwindled as he returned his attention to the swanna. "So... Would you take me there, please... ?" The boy trailed off as he eyed the other infant's unique head wear. He realized he was very curious about Gauvain. So many questions that he wanted to ask, but it was impossible for the baltoy to determine which ones would even be appropriate. Always finding safety in silence, Amias dropped his gaze as simply awaited a response.

Gauvain stared at Amias like the boy had just sprouted a second head and started speaking in tongues. He shrugged, and said, "I guess it worked, yeah! But don't think I'll come running every time you need something and you... talk to yourself." Gauvain shook his head, then stuck his tongue out impetuously. He was definitely childish, at best. "You like books? Why?" Gauvain wouldn't really care if Amias was lying to him. He, personally, lied through his teeth if there was a reason for it.
"The queen's library? You think that the Queen would have a worse library than your dad? Who's your dad?" Gauvain asked, incredulous. He couldn't imagine anyone having anything better than the Queen...! Not because he loved her, but because, after all, she had the knights. Gauvain had no idea that the Red Queen was less of a reader and more a fan of art, though.
And then they were talking about the knights, and Gauvain was thoroughly distracted. His expression, which had ranged rapidly from crestfallen to disbelief, perked up visibly and suddenly. "Yes! But they can fight on foot, too-- there's nothing they can't do." The swanna was made radiant by his joy, his blue eyes with their golden flecks sparkling.
"Yes, I suppose," he descended back into the boredom of library-searching. However, he bowed his head and tilted his face, curious; why was Amias looking down? "My eyes are up here!" Gauvain protested. "Come on; you're weird, but you're cute, so I'll help you," he announced, reaching one hand out.
Whether or not Amias accepted his hand, Gauvain looked for a Hearts guard to ask. He didn't find one of those, but he did find one of the map boards created to help lost tourists visiting the Queen's estates. "I... can't read. Can you?" Gauvain pointed up at the labelled map. He had no clue which one was the "library," and hoped the baltoy could read.
