It had been a quiet past couple of days. Or was it weeks? Come to think of it, it was probably weeks. The white Nova hadn't seen horn or Acturus tail of the white stallion who kept bugging his sister. Though Sadira had been at home, doing her usual singing of the things he wrote, Deneb wasn't buying the absence of the other stallion as a sign he was giving up the chase on the pink mare. Knowing Hall, he was merely biding his time. Maybe waiting for Deneb to let his guard down, then swoop in to take Sadira away from them. Where to, he, of course, wasn't sure. Nor did he want to take the risk to find out. It wasn't like Hall was going to spill all his secrets to the Nova who was his enemy. Nor did he seem to be talking to Sadira about anything.

Nothing besides charming her. He wanted something. Deneb knew this as a solid fact.

So, one day, unable to float in the water any longer and wait, he ducked down and swam along the rivers to the territory of the Dreamer's Glass. The blue horn broke the surface of the water, first, followed by the white and yellow head of Deneb. Seeing no one around, he positioned himself on the shore. His front hooves touched the dry ground besides the water, rising him up to his full height. Fear of Hall catching him kept him near the shore, his lower torso in the water.

Just one glimpse of the white stallion. That was all he wanted.

In the water, his tail swung back and forth near the surface, making many ripples across the water.

It was another day for the teen, in her carefree world where life was just one game and adventure after another. The sun was high above, the clouds making there lazy way across the sky and just the faintest of breezes to gently ruffle her mane.

Today she had found herself chasing a butterfly, it was an ordinary butterfly with wonderful colours but it was also a challenge.

"C'mere and let me catch you!" Oota shouted in glee, she'd chased the thing all this away across her herd lands and she wasn't going to give up just yet!

There where still land and time, it would be her's! "Oh that is your in for it now buddy!" She declared in a voice that rang out as a declaration of war. Hoping over some bushes she came to a stop and huffed. "Where did you go..." Looking around it had gone, she hadn't a clue where it was just gone "I was only playing" Oota sulked and shrugged taking a look around her she took a double take at the creature she was sure wasn't there. Surely enough he was, he looked like her... kinda horse like but wasn't quite anything she'd seen before.

Tilting her head she bounded over in her usual playful manner and took a sniff around his general area "Well your new!" She stated with no hesitation, she hadn't smelled anything like him before "I haven't seen you before, or... anything like you!"

Deneb was intent on one side of him. So intent, he didn't hear anything that wasn't in his field of vision. He found Hallbjorn that much of a threat to himself and his family. Mostly, his family. Specifically, his sister. His mother and other sister were too dark for Hall's attention. He himself would have been in danger if he was a mare. Maybe. Deneb didn't count himself as naive and innocent as the mares who would be taken in by the smooth-talker. Such as his sister.

He felt more than heard or saw the faint wisp of a breath on his neck. Before he had time to turn around, something with a feminine voice called out, causing him to jump in surprise. The Nova lost his balance, falling backgrounds into the water, but catching himself before he could completely submerge back to his home world. He resembled someone only hanging on by their front legs or arms over a dangerous cliff. His turquoise eyes shifted towards the filly, nothing but the surprise within their depths. Then they blinked and the stallion uttered a small sigh.

Unlike the other filly who was unfamiliar with Nova, he gave this one more leniency. Maybe this herd didn't have many in their ranks?

Deneb slid back into the water, just his neck and head visible. The rippling view of his white body beneath the water shimmered around him. Laying a hoof against the side of the bank from underwater, he leaned on it to flick his tail in view.

"Tail, right?" Though his voice lacked humor, it wasn't unfriendly or uninviting. "I am equally unfamiliar with the antlers."

At first she had no idea what was happening, she'd spoken and then everything seemed to go a bit wibbly wobbly. Eyes enlarging she watched as the male seemed to flid out and loose his balance, there was a splash and she moved in closer a little lost as to what to do. Then he seemed to regain his composure and Oota just let the laughter roll fluidly, that was one of the fumiest things she'd ever soon, this water horse was hilarious!

She was so excited over the whole thing she even found herself shifting her weight in her front half to allow her to clop her hooves together in bouts as if trying to applaud the male on the show. Realizing this would probably be considered 'rude' she calmed herself and came all the way to the edge of the water and looking into it's depths getting splashed a little when the tail flicked into view.

Giggling she nodded "That's your tail?! Looks like a big fish tail..." Peering about in the water and putting the fact he hadn't previously drowned and he still resided in the water she let out a cheer "Ah! You are a water horse!" Puffing out her chest she felt proud that she'd put it together and come to the conclusion and really excited to stumble on something so new and unusual to her.

"Oh, these things" She nodded and looked up to her antlers "they're boring, everyone around here seems to have horns, but you have a awesome tail and can swim, that's so cool!" The female was obviously far more interested in him then receiving compliments, she wanted to know everything about this new stranger!

Deneb was equally as confused about the situation. Granted, there were not many Nova back where he came from and he seemed to go over this often with most of them, 'specially the really young foals. But he didn't think his tail was the strangest thing about him. If anything, it was the contraption on his back. If one looked closely at all bodies of water, they were likely to find more Nova like him. Far as he knew, only four Stars had the strange metal on their backs. Though it was sharp, he didn't hurt him. Never had. None of the sharp points were reaching out from his body, so it had also never hurt anyone else. Sometimes it got snagged on plants on the bottom of the rivers and lakes or on the shoreline. He had learned to navigate around that happening.

Turquoise eyes moved back to his tail as it sunk back under the water to fan this way and that to keep him afloat. Remembering how his tail started, Deneb wondered what she would have thought of his foal's tail. Probably a shrimp, if she had ever seen one.

"It's not as pretty as some others with the extra fins on the side." At her enthusiasm, he couldn't help but smile. Ducking down, he leaped up onto the bank, curling his tail around him similar to a snake. Or a cat sitting up. With practiced moves, he didn't fall over from the awkwardness of only having two legs when on the land.

"Not where I come from. If there are any, I haven't seen them, yet. You don't have any Nova around here, either?" They must be all out in the ocean or deep parts of the lakes. If he hadn't been born to a land mare, that's where he would be. Under the water, only surfacing to do his dolphin-like tricks.

"There are water horses with extra fins?" She considered this for a moment before shaking her head "I get to see yours, so I like yours better." Nodding she smiled and fidgeted on the spot, clopping her hooves in an eager rhythm at what he'd do next. She wasn't waiting long, nor was she disappointed when he ducked then leapt, the spray of water caught the sunlight and in that moment he looked like a water horse god.

Oota found herself glued to the spot with a wave of awe spreading all over her at his grace in a manoeuvre she would of assumed to be clumsy and fraught with difficulty. After a few moments she crossed the remaining distance between them and settled herself down to his level. Though as he was an adult he was still a head taller than her at least she had no sense of stranger danger it seemed, what would want to hurt her anyway?

"Really? Huh... I get them from my mum, I'm told I have many siblings all over the place... and family, I just guessed that they where normal." Shrugging she kept her smile firmly in place still having a great time being in the presence of the new entity, her new entity she could tell everyone about! ...Or keep a secret, she didn't know yet.

Mentally shaking the thought she decided to think that over later, right now she wanted to enjoy the water horses company. Shaking her head she looked up at him with her emerald green eyes "Not that I know off, I've never seen one! Lots with wings, and horns like mine and yours but not tails... and you can come on land too? Is it uncomfortable?!

The Nova titled his head, making his appearance more feline. Which wasn't all too out of the ordinary, perhaps, considering he came from Moonlight.

Deneb shuffled his hooves in embarrassment, making little sounds on the stray rocks that littered his sitting place. He never thought of anything special about him. Was not used to the compliments. Would never be, no matter how many he got. He was nothing special. Those other Nova were. The ones with the pretty fins like a tropical fish. He had never met one, but he had seen them during his exploring the different waterways.

The filly would see one day when she was older.

Shaking his head, Deneb smiled kindly, ignoring the embarrassed flutter of his heart, still. "Common here, but not elsewhere. Like the feline traits of my herd. We have lots of horns over there, too." The chuckle at the questions was hard to keep from bubbling out of his mouth. "Only for a bit, depending on the temperature. But I can't walk well. I would love a pair of wings for that..." And he caught himself in the wishful out loud thinking, turning his head towards the water to try and hide his new embarrassment.

"Horns are horns though, they don't mean we can do anything special, plus we both have them, they just caught in stuff!" Letting out a feigned humph she batted a rock towards the adult in challenge, it wasn't a hard hit just a casual hit aimed to pass the small distance between where they where both sitting.

As Oota was only a teen, and not a very well experienced one she didn't have any clue about the stallion was thinking. To her the world was here and now, she had never given a thought as to what was to come, what she would do with her life just that she could enjoy herself. This adult, the water horse was defiantly helping her enjoy herself in the now, and the more she got to learn the better!

"Wings are over rated, I can't even fly yet!" Putting on a silly voice it sounded like she was mimicking someone, a sibling perhaps "But one day you'll be big and strong and then you can take to the skies." Then her voice went back to the normal adolescent tone "Phft I'd rather swim, there must be a whole world down there that we land walking horses know nothing about!"

"Horns are a good weapon for defense," Deneb countered with a wink, not really thinking of anything-or anyone-in particular. If he hadn't been momentarily distracted by the filly, a certain other stallion would have come to mind. As it were, Hall had been pushed from his mind. As was usual when the Nova got to interacting with someone new. Most of the time, he just stuck to his little family group.

The stallion said and did nothing at the rock hurtled at him. For a few moments, he just sat there quietly. Then his tail slide from its curled position around his body to return the challenge by splashing water lightly at her. It stayed near the surface, just in case.

Though Deneb, as an adult, could agree with the Star whose voice she was mocking, he kept his opinions to himself. She was at that stage arguing with her might not go over well. And he didn't feel like creating some unwanted tension for himself.

"Oh, you can swim," he told her with a huge smile and another splash with the water. "Might be able to dive. When you're older, I can help you to learn."
PostPosted: Sun Aug 12, 2012 6:30 pm

"Why would I need a weapon?" Oota found her head tilting as she blinked at the male. Not once has she come across any situation where she would need to defend herself, nor could she imagine to in the future. It spoke volumes about how much she still had to mature, but the teen did seem to like to live in her blissful bubble.

As she sat there looking confused she seemed too intend at looking at the male than paying attention to what his tail was doing. As such she quickly felt the droplets of cool water splashing onto her skin "Hey!" She giggled, not taking offence but finding it funny as she shook the droplets off her face and mane to send them flying outwards hoping to get him with at least one.

His last statement caught her totally off guard and she looked at him as if he'd just suggested she threw up rainbows "No way! I can't swim! I don't have a cool tail and I've never even tried holding my breath, do you really know land horses like me that can swim?" Now she was even more interested, she was sure he was having a joke yet the prospect of actually swimming appealed to her to no end!

Deneb shifted his position, absently flicking his tail on the shore away from the water. The water from his mane was still dripping down his neck, so the few droplets that came off the filly had little affect on him. But just to amuse her, he moved his head away from her shaking, pretending like it bothered him. When it was nothing short of a lie. Living in the water, he enjoyed every small drop of it that came into contact with him.

The stallion shook his head, again, vowing to once more keep his mouth shut. Youngsters of her age, more so the ones as innocent sounding as her, didn't need to know things like that until they were adults. Not if they had proper protection from the adults of their herd. Let them stay oblivious for a little bit longer. You're only young for a short time.

"Oh? How do you think the animals of this earth get across water in their way? Even hoofed creatures can swim."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2012 5:22 am

"They go round?" Thats what she had always done, though she had only encountered beds of water in her herd lands and had never had a need to cross any large amounts of water. Though his words where few they sunk in to enlarge the spark of hope that had been created about the idea of going to his world. Oota was bemused by the idea, what if you couldn't go round, then what did land horses like her do? Was this really possible, how fun sounding to be able to swim even without a fancy tail like his.

Putting weight on her hooves she shifted to a standing position and wandered to the very edge of the water and started batting at the water curiously. "You really think I could? And you'd teach me?" Her voice was soft and wistful, probably the calmest it had been thus far, she was really taken with the idea.

"Ah, but what is one to do when the water is too large?" Deneb challenged her, his voice turning more professional. He sounded like a priest giving a child a lesson about the world. Something with a deeper hidden meaning the child was expected to draw out of the sentence. Deneb, however, did not have a deeper meaning than what he had asked. If she did find some meaning in there he would be deeply impressed, nonetheless.

"Your wings might get heavy with the water and it may be more difficult for you with those split hooves, but I'm sure you can." The white stallion nodded, feeling confident in what he was saying. Everything on this earth was made to be able to cross the water. Including some bugs. He had seen many other Stars from a distance take to the water to cross it or just to play. He had even seen a few skilled ones able to dive.

Maybe when he taught this filly how to swim, he would enlist the help of another to go on her other side should she fall away from him into the water before she learned to float. The last thing he needed was to enrage one from the Dreamer's Glass for unintentionally harming their daughter.

Deneb smiled at her, shifting his weight so he could slide easily back into the water. The feeling of the droplets on his skin drying was distracting him.

"Yes, but only when you are full grown. You must have some shallow water around here to practice in."

Looking with longing eyes at the water the teen listened to every word, whilst really thinking hard about the first part. The tone sent her mind racing his words where so clever and she felt she really had to find a suitable answer for the question especially as it was a topic she had never considered previously. Getting distracted from her train of thought at the rest of the nova's comments she considered another aspect that she hadn't before "Can you breath under water? I can't right? I'd have to learn... hold my breath or something" She looked at him took a deep breath and held it there with her cheeks puffed out and after a few moments crossed her eyes.

Letting out a gasp she chuckled as her eyes re-adjusted "I'd have to work on that.... I don't have all your special gifts but if you think I can, I will grow and I'll practise then I'll see you again my water horse?" nothing else at that moment could of made her more happy. Though she thought it was at the idea of learning to swim she could feel her heart racing. It was a weird and utterly random sensation she had never felt before and as such she ignored it, it was obviously just a result of all this excitement.....

In the fluster her mind seemed to clear a fog and an answer found its way to her "Oh! I'd have to grow right? Inside, grow as a star and rise to the challenge, and I totally will!" Giggling she galloped on the spot for a second proud to have found the clever water horse a clever answer to his question.

The water horse bobbed in the water, his tail swaying slowly back and forth directly underneath him to keep him from sinking down to the bottom of the river. Which wasn't a long way down. One couldn't see the bottom from the shoreline, but one would be able to see the white Nova sitting down there.

Shaking his head, Deneb continued to offer his friendly smile he used on the youngsters he spoke to. He laughed a little at her attempt to practice. "I can, but you can't. My species is made for the water. And we do not have any powers to help you." The last bit was said with a bit of sadness. Deneb couldn't share his underwater world with anyone. All his family lived on the land.

Winking at her question, the stallion did a few turns in the water, his tail flicking over the surface once. Her last comment made him pause, wiping the smile off his face. So she found some hidden meaning in there all for herself? He was impressed. Impressed enough he would leave her with that thought and not tell her he hadn't meant to give her anything hidden.

Giving her a thoughtful smile, Deneb tilted his head. "I will indeed come by again. I am not far away." And before she could answer any further, he made a little jump in the water headfirst, diving down and back in the direction of his own herd. His tail emerged from the water, following behind his body with a splash.
