Name: Hikari Rei

ShinigamiSquad:
11High Concept Aspect: “You can't judge a book by its cover.”
Rei’s character is often misinterpreted by others due to her appearance masking her true personality. Though Rei attempts to prove people otherwise, she struggles to accomplish this due to her lack of experience with people skills.
Trouble Aspect: “Curiosity killed more than one cat.”
Rei possesses an easily intrigued mind, which subsequently leads her to face troublesome outcomes as a result. Those around Rei are often dragged to face such outcomes along with her (though this is unintended by Rei) and when hurt, Rei perceives this to be a result of her inadequacy to protect innocent victims.
Appearance:
Often chided by her seniors for her lack of “proper clothing”, Rei prefers to adorn her wardrobe with rather revealing but light-weighted garments which she argues “won’t drag me down in a fight”. She is often seen wearing a black bikini top, matching shorts and knee-high boots, as well as a long black coat. Her scars, however, are more notable as a result of her “bold” fashion sense. Arguably her most prominent feature, other than her mismatched eyes (her left one being blue and her right being purple), is the massive scar across her abdomen. She also bears the birthmark “0169” at the nape of her neck. (This is explained further in the biography.) Her hair is almost always tied in twin-tails, one much longer than the other. On special occasions, she wears her Shinigami uniform.
Personality:
Though many tend to see Rei as the “silent type” with a stoic expression, she is in fact simply shy and has troubles expressing her true feelings - too much trouble in fact. Her supposedly cold demeanour often hides her concern for her close associates. She is always trying to be kinder to those around her and struggles to make friends. She has a complex about her small bust size.

Background: Where Did You Come From?
Prior to awakening in Soul Society, Rei was forced to partake in a human experiment since birth. Her real name is unknown – she was simply referred to as “0169”. Dying at the age 17 as a result of drug overdose, Rei physically cannot mature beyond this age due to her strong emotional attachment to her past life (possibly resentment though this is never specified). Though she has no recollection of it, her strange birthmark often leads her to question her past in the Human World.
Born in District 52 of West Rukongai alongside her older brother of 5 years, Rei grew up experiencing the harsh difference between those living an elite lifestyle compared to those in the slums (as living standards in Rukongai decline sharply beyond the 50th district). Despite the fact that Rei and her brother would struggle to obtain their basic needs at times, especially due to Rei’s hunger as a result of her high spiritual power, Rei held no distaste towards her life. Though her “cold” demeanour, which she possessed even as a child, was hard to approach, Rei grew up appreciating the comfort of her older brother’s presence.
Aspect: “So long as I have you, nothing else matters.”
Rising Conflict: What Shaped You?
Rei’s first encounter with a hollow on the outskirts of the District 64 was a careless one – just the slightest stumble upon a hungry Hollow was enough for the monster to bare its sharp fangs at Rei. Her brother’s subsequent death, a noble sacrifice in exchange for her safety but soon followed by a gruesome death, was what strongly encouraged her to become a Shinigami. The obvious scar on Rei’s abdomen serves as a reminder of her past, of her brother’s death and of her powerlessness. Rei deeply regrets her inability to have saved her brother, and blames herself for the outcome of the event.
Aspect: “A chip on the shoulder… and had I only been stronger to remove it.”
