Who: Cesc, Vivi, Shep, Prajna, Namini
Where: A park in Gambino
When: Around lunchtime
Weather: Gorgeous temperate day, perfect picnic and baseball weather

“Arright, Rhede. That’s… almost right. Yeh put your hands together like this. See how the fingers all line up?” Shepard fixed the frei’s grip around the Louisville Slugger bat and took a step back to look over his form. The tall Aussie’s mouth crooked slightly – it was hard to critique a batting stance that didn’t have any legs, but for what it was worth, everything the frei had looked well enough. Shepard was still getting used to the Raevan, still getting used to his role in raising him, but so far the job had been easier than expected – Cesc was balanced and friendly, and more than willing to bond with Shepard over classically male things, baseball included. Shepard was pleased to find out that Cesc enjoyed the sport, and although the Raevan seemed absolutely taken with the sports that involved running – soccer, for one, was met with great interest and joy – Cesc was happy to find out that he could at least play baseball.

Cesc’s ears flicked gently as he stood as straight as he could, holding the bat in his best imitation of the athletes he and Shepard watched on the television. It was gorgeous out, a rare summer day that was sunny without being blazing, the cloudless sky warm but not oppressively hot. Shepard threw a baseball into his worn leather glove a few times as he walked away from Cesc, taking his place at the unofficial pitcher’s mound – a slightly raised patch of grass in the park clearing.

Vivi watched the proceedings from her seat on a blanket not far away, leaning back on her arms and tipping her chin up to better see under the brim of her wide-brimmed sun-hat. Beside her was an unopened picnic basket, made of classic blond straw and filled with chilled goods. The sound of the ocean, not so far away, carried into the park, and Vivi, with her sunglasses and sunhat and white Capri pants, looked like she was vacationing in Saint Tropez.

“Come on, Cesc~!” she cheered. The frei wiggled his bat and smiled in response.

“Y’ready?” Shepard called. Cesc nodded, his posture straightening. “Here we go!”

Crack! Cesc swung and just made contact with the pitch, his swing still new and erratic. The ball loped high into the air in a tall arc, traveling far but rather slowly, its velocity somewhat soft. The frei’s eyes traced the ball’s journey and then widened as he realized it was making its way toward a few other park patrons.

“Oi!” Shepard yelled, trying to get the others’ attentions, already starting to jog toward them.

“Look out!” The frei called, dropping his bat. “Fly ball!”

"Are you sure you don't want my help?" came the maternal coo as Namini turned and watched Prajna struggle to carry its massive cello case. It was as she had originally feared when leaving the Nao apartment: Prajna's lack of lower body made it somewhat hrad for the Frei to maintain a firm and steady form of balance and it would consistently wobble left and right as it struggled to control the weight pulling it lower and lower to the Earth.

"Is fine. Is -ugh- fine." Prajna grumbled, swinging the heavy container so that its weight pulled the Frei forward for a moment. It hadn't broken a sweat yet, thankfully, but its arms were beginning to ache. Namini's brows knitted together in concern but decided that the only way she'd really be able to assist the Frei was by quickly finding a nice location for them to settle. It was a pity David wasn't available to enjoy the afternoon with them, but work was work. Nearby there rested a majestic oak tree, occupied by playful squirrels, and it seemed to provide enough shade to cover Namini, Prajna and its large companion. "Let's just take a seat over there, Prajna. That tree looks good," Namini explained but just as she headed over to the tree, Prajna turned at the cry of "“Look out! Fly ball!”

"Fly wha--?" Prajna inquired a few seconds too late as a small baseball hurled itself directly into the Star's face. A string of unidentifiable profanities escaped the androgynous soul's mouth, having dropped the case abruptly to the ground. Namini let out a small squeak of surprise as she rushed over to Prajna's aid, "Lemme look at it. Are you ok? What was ...??"

Namini bent over and picked up the stray ball and examined it like some unfamiliar object. That's when a smooth edged sunset-colored ribbon poked its way into the teen's line of sight. The Nao's cerulean eyes followed the spiraling ribbon upwards until it met the face of a beautiful but unfamiliar Raevan. She released a small "oh!" and dropped the ball again as Prajna peeked through its clenching fingers, furious and still in pain, "Who the HELL are you?"

Prajna's eyes held no flame of interest like Namini's did as they met, for the first time, Cesc, the newborn deerling!

From her place on the blanket, Vivi slowly sat up as she watched the fly ball's arc, her eyebrows slowly raising and her hands slowly lifting to her face until -- WHAM! -- the ball made contact with a poor Raevan's face. She uttered a small cry and then her palms both cupped around her mouth entirely, trying to stifle the immediate, knee-jerk snicker that popped out of her without warning. Thankfully, far away as she was, it looked only like a startled gasp.

“Are you hurt?!" Cesc arrived first, his low voice strained with immediate concern. He ducked to make eye contact with the furious Star, his softly-glowing eyes searching for the injury he'd unwittingly caused. Prajna's question would go unanswered as the dawn frei attempted first to make rights with it, to make sure his mistake had not injured it.

"I'm so --" The frei's eyes dropped and he passed his tongue over his lips as he grappled for the correct phrasing, his low, accented voice making him seem even more foreign. "-- so-- sorry."

"Aw, cripes, let me see that nose, c'mere." Shepard wedged himself forward, looking at Prajna's face and determining the damage. His grey-green eyes slanted slightly in a squint as he studied the Star, but he immediately shook his head with some relief. Aside from some bruising, the Star was fine, nothing broken -- and actually, the strangest thing Shepard noticed was that he could not actually tell whether Prajna was male or female, a thought that absolutely paralyzed him. "-- yer lucky it wasn't a line drive. Doesn't seem like it got you too hard. We've got some ice back at our picnic, let us patch yeh up."

Floating back to give Shepard room, Cesc picked the cello case up out of the dirt and faced Namini, inclining his head slightly in an apologetic bow. "I am so sorry," he repeated, his words measured and correct.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 12, 2012 11:37 am

“Are you hurt?!" exclaimed the concerned stranger but just as Prajna was about to ask, quite sarcastically, whether it LOOKED unharmed, another stranger, a tall, muscular human came over and immediately began examining the Star's small, angular face. As the man announced that nothing was broken and that the Star would pretty much live, Namini rejoined her charge and did another examination of the fiery Frei's face, only to confirm Shepard's conclusion with a nod, "Prajna, your face is fine. I promise. Let's just take the nice man's offer and get you some ice if we can. I know how upset you'd be if your face was to swell or if the pain got worse.."

Prajna made a gruesome scowl which only grew when the pink haired deerling picked up its precious cello and offered the two another apology, "Fine. Let's get ice."

After that, Prajna floated on ahead, touching its right cheek and eye carefully as if trying to develop some kind of mental picture of what kind of state its beautiful face was currently in. Namini offered Cesc a forgiving smile and walked beside him, whispering very quietly but affectionately, "Please don't mind Prajna. It has a quick temper and worries greatly over its appearance. I bet if you were to flatter it later, after we get the ice, you'll be easily forgiven." Namini's grin widened and when Prajna turned around to glance back at the duo for a moment, she made sure that there was plenty of unsuspecting space between her and the stranger Frei, as if she too had not quite warmed up to the newcomer. Before turning back around though, the scowl still on the androgynous soul's face, Prajna's twilit eyes paused on Cesc and took him in: his hair was light, reminding Prajna of something sweet and weightless like cotton candy. The Frei's warm amber eyes seemed nothing but welcoming and free of judgment. His clothes also seemed bright and sympathetic. Prajna turned back to the front, hiding the fact that the skin that had been hit had started to throb lightly. Overall, Prajna came to the conclusion that...

Cesc was like its twin. But the good twin.

Prajna remembered all the television shows it had seen with good siblings being dressed in bright clothing with beautiful hair and smiles everywhere, while the evil sibling would be in darker fashions with smirks and edgy locks and... Prajna could not help but think that was an applicable concept to their current situation. It was as if good-twin-hero Cesc had tried to "destroy" the wicked-twin-villain Prajna... with a baseball. Prajna made note to keep its guard up, at least until it got some damned ice for its face.

They were coming back! And, oh, it looked like the unknown frei was nursing a wound to her -- because Prajna seemed female to Vivi, on first impression -- dignity as well as to her face, Vivi thought, from the looks of that scowl. The Frenchwoman turned to the nearby woven basket and fished out one of the ice packets cooling the picnic lunch, wrapping it quickly in a linen napkin to take away some of the cold sting. She was not overly concerned (no blood as far as she could see) but rather curious, wondering how the rest of this encounter would go. The frei was beautiful, as most Raevans were, with alarmingly blue eyes that would be made even more lovely if its scowl could be replaced with a smile.

"Hello, bonjour," Vivi cooed, lifting herself to her feet and approaching the frei. "You poor lovely one, come, take some ice. I hope you are not too badly hurt? The ball, it stings but it passes quickly!"

Behind Prajna, Cesc smiled gratefully at Namini, his bright eyes still filled with concern over his mistake. Shepard had said there was no real damage, but he had learned in his daily lessons that first impressions were strongest -- would he ever be able to surmount this one with the Star? Such an unfortunate accident... He lifted his gaze to the back of Prajna's head, still feeling the frei's annoyance radiating all around it.

Briefly, Prajna turned and they made a moment of eye contact. Cesc could see that he was not forgiven -- and how could he be? He had hardly even begun to apologize. But there was more than that in the glance, a sort of sizing up that Cesc had seen from others but that wasI beyond his comprehension. For his part, he was glad to see that Prajna's injury was not great, and that he would not have to be anything but honest when he would assure Prajna on Namini's advice that it was beautiful. It was. And startlingly so, now that he thought about it. A different beauty than others he had seen, a cool, distant sort of beauty, delicacy and porcelain.

"Thank you," he said softly to Namini as Prajna turned back around, his voice rumbling from his chest. "You are very kind." He inclined his head slightly in deference to the woman. "I am Cesc. Your name...?"
PostPosted: Thu Jul 12, 2012 12:22 pm

As Prajna's icy gaze fell upon the kind foreigner, offering the Star some ice for its wound, Namini's own cerulean orbs met those of the Stag, widening just so with surprise, unused to such courtesy and good behavior. Prajna could learn a thing or two from the young Frei, the brunette thought, though she responded aloud with a simple introduction and compliment, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Cesc. My name's Namini, thank you for asking. You're very well mannered, do you know that?"

Namini could not restrain a soft chuckle, confessing her inner thoughts perhaps, and Prajna partially turned to gaze back at the pastel-haired Frei and the Star's own guardian, suspicious but admittedly...curious. What could those two be discussing so softly and with such glee? Out of fear of expressing too much interest in the others, Prajna returned to meet Vivi, the dark haired woman approaching the redhead cautiously but humbly. She did not seem to feign interest or worry over Prajna's wounds, but genuine concern as she lightly applied the cool napkin-wrapped ice pouch to Prajna's reddened eye and cheek. Though biting and uncomfortable, Prajna quietly accepted Vivi's care, a response that surprised both the arriving Namini and the Star itself. Perhaps it was the French woman's tender but probably unconscious compliment, a foreign tendency, calling Prajna a "poor lovely one", that caused the redhead to simply inherently trust and accept her, or the fact that the throbbing was dulling thanks to Vivi's ice. Either way, Prajna was unusually quiet and polite today.... though the androgynous Frei still had not uttered a "Thank you" or a forgiveness to Cesc yet. Time would only tell.

As Namini approached Vivi and her now subdued Star, she couldn't help but notice the basket of goods and the cloth which the small group was now residing on and frowned a bit, apologetic and wary, "I'm so sorry. We didn't inconvenience your picnic did we?"

The young girl turned to Shepard and Cesc, as if seeking some kind of reassurance, but Prajna's more uncaring nature shone through for a moment as it released a kind of scoff, an obvious "pfft", as the Star thought what was wrong with its human. Prajna got hit in the face and yet Namini was worried about inconveniencing THEM? Prajna's good eye turned to peek up at Cesc once again, continuing to feign disinterest in the Stag as it wondered, Who in their right mind would throw a hard as rock ball around just for entertainment?

The stag could only grin again at Namini's compliment, and offer a humble shake of his head. His lessons at home with Granny M had always underscored good manners, and such manners had always felt right to him one way or another -- what use was there in being rude? Especially to someone like Namini, who seemed so sweet and gentle. "Enchanté, Namini," Cesc replied, as they arrived back at the picnic site.

To Vivi, Prajna reminded her of her young nephew, Renee -- the bruised ego of having been publicly hurt, the silent burning indignation of having to be tended to while apologies and glossings-over floated on in their wake, the sting of the wound and the annoyance of it all. She offered Prajna a smile of sympathetic understanding; it was terribly unfair to have one's day ruined in such a way!

She shook her head at Namini as the girl approached and offered an apology, and with such sweetness! She did not seem angry at all for having been inconvenienced.

"My goodness, not at all! We are sorry for having caused you and your sweet one such pain," the frenchwoman replied.

"Dun' even worry 'bout it," Shepard continued as he ambled up behind, the baseball now safely resting in his worn leather glove. He reached down to collect Cesc's bat from where the frei had dropped it, and then continued over to the picnic blanket to deposit all the baseball goods where they could no longer do any unsuspecting Raevans any harm.

"In fact, why do you not stay a bit? At least until you feel better, mm? We have plenty if you would like a drink or a snack with us. It is the least we could do," Vivi offered with a nod, the movement causing ripples of motion in her wide-brimmed hat.

Setting down the cello case gently on the edge of the picnic blanket, Cesc floated slowly over to Prajna, his face again taking on an expression of concern. "Again, I must ... to say..." He faltered, squinting, gathering his words. The humans seemed to be taking care of themselves, and the frei badly wanted to make amends to his own kind, no matter what it took. "I am sorry. I never would have done this on purpose." He took the little bundle of ice from Vivi and gently lifted it to look at what he'd caused, his quiet eyes searching the Star's. "But... of course not." He smiled a half-smile, a little sheepish. "Nobody would want to harm such a beautiful face."

”Your sweet one”” had been sufficient in getting Prajna to finally release all remaining tension but something about the way Cesc’s rich and humble words complimented the Star’s physical beauty and tenderly cradled its bruised ego made Prajna just melt. The redhead had heard so many accents and vocal varieties on television, and while attractive in their own ways, nothing seemed to compare to meeting someone real breathing life into those same scripted words and sentences, now elegantly phrased and coated in high class honey. As was in its provocative nature, Prajna very soon found itself gawking at the deerling’s rosy lips . It began to wonder if Cesc was used to be stared at, and at the introduction of that thought, the androgynous Star quickly looked away, beet red in the face. Surprisingly, in its attempted escape of Cesc’s amber gaze, the words “It’s fine. It’s fine. Accidents happen.” were hurled abruptly into the deer’s general direction.

Perhaps Prajna had misapplied the concepts of good-twin-evil-twin: Did Cesc know he was even capable of such seductive sorcery? Perhaps he was actually the evil twin in disguise, attempting to overpower the innocent, good-twin Prajna with his fancy words and European charisma!

Having noted Prajna’s silenced, blushing state of submission, Namini felt comfortable enough to accept Vivi and Shepard’s lunch invitation and sat herself carefully on the blanket’s edge. The young girl wasn’t going to lie, “I don’t think I got your names. I’ve been so mesmerized by your gorgeous accent. French, right? You sound so regal, I hope you don’t mind me saying. I’m not trying to mock you; I really am…prettttty envious!”

Namini released one of her signature giggles and then took a quick gaze around the park. It truly was a beautiful afternoon and she was happy to see that it wasn’t going to be wasted by a small accident. Silently, she prayed things would go well enough today, to the point where the Naos could walk away with three new friends. She could only hope.

"Ah, what a lovely thing to say! Especially from one such as you, belle," cooed Vivi, taking off her sunglasses and smiling a sparkling smile at Namini. She gestured beside her on the picnic blanket and then busied herself opening the basket, taking out a stack of cups. "I am Vivi, and this is the Shepard, and you met our poor baseball enthusiast, Cesc, I think?"

"It's just Shepard, not the shepherd, like a watcher over a flock of sheep," said Shepard from where he stood, fishing hand sanitizer out of his backpack and rubbing the dirt off his fingers. He sent a nod and a grin as a hello over to Namini as he did so.

"Aside from the unfortunate-ness of our hello, I must say it is a pleasure to meet another member of the Lab!" exclaimed Vivi, taking out a bottle of white wine and another of water. "It is always a pleasure to do so. Ah -- which shall you drink, and does our injured beauty like anything?"

Cesc, meanwhile, was flummoxed by Prajna's lingering look, and then its flushing turn away from him. He had the notion that his apology was earnestly taken, but as for the rest of the star's motions, they sailed entirely over his head. He ran his fingers through his hair and wet his lips, trying to think of another way to get the other to lower its guard -- he was anxious to win the Star's favor and make true amends for his blunder.

"I see you, ah... have an instrument," Cesc ventured. "Are you a musician? -- Ah, I am sorry, I did not inquire as to your name..."

Namini's eyes widened in a way that made her already cheery face bright up even more. Wine was something she had not really tried, even though she was of legal age. She wondered if she should seize this opportunity...but with a quick glance over Prajna, she told herself and simultaneously said aloud, "Just a little bit of wine. Please."

A little couldn't hurt right? She saw David drink many times, in his own company or in the company of others, so if he could handle his own then, with similar blood running through her veins, she should be able to handle a glass or two of white wine. ...Right? For a short moment, Namini looked back over the brawny Shepard and the elegant Vivi. She took in their compatible nature, envious. Swallowing hard, she hoped if she did drink she didn't end up making a fool of herself in front of this wonderful duo!

Prajna, on the other hand, focused on a different duo. Protectively yet tenderly, as a mother would slid her arm around a young child's shoulders, the Star extended one of its pale hands and slid the palm across the smooth surface of the cello's case. Immediately it felt at ease and full of pride once again. Perhaps this was an opportunity that needed to be seized? Perhaps... Prajna turned its piercing gaze back to Cesc's delicate face. Perhaps the stag really was just nice and charming and only wanted to know Prajna a little more.

It really helped that Cesc was male too. Perhaps he could be trusted. Prajna let out a small sigh of defeat and tried to be as courteous as possible for once, though an air of superiority still childishly clung to its words.

"Yes. Prajna plays the cello for now. Cesc can call Prajna like everyone else... Prajna" the redhead stated, its cheeks still a bit pink from the unusually polite manner of speaking. It sounded so...foreign.

"Of course," said Vivi cheerily, taking out a long-stemmed glass from the picnic basket. She was French, after all, and took her picnics rather seriously -- the amount and quality of food within was staggering. But then again, she did not mean to dine the way they did when Shepard packed a basket. Crude sandwiches and soda! Never.

She poured a half-glass for their new friend and held it out to Namini. "Tell me, lovely one, tell me all about yourself! We run a bakery, we three, not all that far from here. Vermillion, it is called, and you must come one day! But we are always curious about other labmates."

"Mm," said Shepard shortly, offering the hand sanitizer out to Namini as Vivi spoke.

"Prajna," Cesc repeated, the rich timbre of his accented voice lingering on the syllables, as though trying to make them comfortable in his mouth. He said it again, his light eyes watching the star Raevan touch the soft black cello case. "Prajna."

Gently rolled r. A soft j. It was a good and pleasant name to speak. No letters he could not speak.

He smiled.

"Tell me, Prajna," he said. "What could I do to entice you to play a little?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 11, 2013 7:16 pm

A bakery?

Namini immediately began to smile ear to ear as she accepted some of Shepard's hand sanitizer, then graciously received the delicate glass from Vivi. Namini remembered one of her first memories of the Lab, "When I first joined the Lab family, it was summertime and really hot! I had seen a flyer for this beach side event so I went. This was before Prajna was born and I have this brother, David, too but he couldn't come so it was just.... me. It was busy and crowded and I scared but there was this cooking contest, you see..."

Namini smile, if possible, seemed to brighten and light up her doll-like features as she continued, "And I made this dish my mom taught me. It was this light almond cake topped with a bavarois mousse made of currants. Inside it is a mixed berry jam that balances out the tartness of the currants. It was a good dessert if you don't mind me saying."

The young brunette took a small swig of the wine, forgetting the sharp taste that comes with alcohol, and nearly choked. Coughing, surprised by the unfamiliar burning sensation, Namini tried to continue as gracefully as possible, "I -cough- I'm a nursing student. I have a year left before I receive my bachelor's and and -cough cough- I like to bake too in my spare time." After regaining her composure, she blushed and apologized. "Sorry. I'm not very used to drinking alcoholic beverages..."

Prajna cocked an fiery little brow at Cesc's "name-tasting", as Prajna grew to describe the action. Each time the pink haired Frei said it, Prajna felt its heart quicken a bit. His accent was so sophisticated and seemingly effortless. And just as Prajna was about to ask him to stop saying its name so much, he changed the topic, though still playing with Prajna's name pronunciation.

"What could I do to entice you to play a little?"

Ah.

Prajna looked over at its cello case, imagining the onyx beast resting inside, before turning its gaze back to Cesc. Did it even know anything worth performing?

"Prajna... only knows some. Don't joke or laugh," came the childish response. "Even David or Namini never really hears Prajna... play something. So if Cesc wants music then.. give.. Prajna something..something~---ah."

Prajna smirked, returning back to its old ways.

"Give me something only Cesc can give me."

If it had not been for the alcohol of the nostalgia, even Namini would have picked up on Prajna's unusual usage of proper pronouns and been a bit concerned or at least intrigued...

Shepard, as Namini spoke, busied himself with poking around the picnic basket, taking out a sandwich and unwrapping it -- before realizing he should probably serve guests first. He pulled out a few paper plates and put them on the blanket, then prodded around within to see what Vivi packed. Chicken sandwiches with pesto and arugula, a tomato-basil salad, some grapes, and melon slices. Then some kind of cake -- there was always some kind of cake. He pulled out the sandwiches and salad and put it out, now and then nodding at Namini to show he was listening. He was hungry, and he could chew and listen simultaneously.

Vivi, on the other hand, leaned forward on one arm and listened carefully as Namini spoke. As the girl described the dessert she made, Vivi broke into a smile and spoke: "Ooh, it does sound quite delicious!

As Namini began to choke, Shepard put out a hand and patted her back.

"Oh! Be careful," said Vivi, pouring herself a half-glass. "This is a very dry wine, it can cause you to have the coughing if you are not careful, yes? But I hope you like the taste, even if it is naughty and tickles the throat!"

She smiled. "A nursing student -- how lovely and caring of you! I am certain there will be many patients who will be quite happy to be in your care, cheri, beautiful and competent is a very comforting combination."

Rhedefre, for his part, looked nonplussed. Why on earth would he joke or laugh at Prajna's playing. And, for his part, what did he have worth giving in return? Not very much... not anything, if he was honest. He was still quite young, trying to find his own talents and likes, and so far all he had in his life was exploration.

He smiled somewhat ruefully.

"This is unfortunate," he said, with an air of confined, boyish embarrassment. "I ... am not certain what I could give you. I am afraid that unlike you, Prajna, I am yet somewhat ... talentless." He lifted a hand and rubbed the nape of his neck. "But if you play me something, I promise -- you will be the first to have something that I make, when I learn how it is to make... anything. Ah -- unless..."

Was this silly, or useful?

Gingerly, Cesc reached behind himself and pulled out a feather from his translucent wings. As he handed it to Prajna, the entire feather became a solid gentle pink light, but still terrifically soft, a tangible glow.

"I can give you this for now?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 17, 2013 1:04 am

As Vivi explained the wine, Namini couldn’t resist blushing suddenly, embarrassed at the thought of a “naughty” wine. Was Vivi speaking from experience? That had to be some play on words, right? Namini couldn’t help force the color out of her cheeks either as Vivi proceeded to shower her in compliments. Namini mumbled a soft protest but made sure it was not loud enough to come across as rude, “I’m not the best nurse to be quite honest. Definitely not the prettiest but…thank you.”

The blossoming brunette turned to Shepard and offered him a small apologetic smile as well, repeating her thanks. Then she returned her attention back to the elegant baker, prodding for some basic information, “So when did you become …erm.. ‘parents’ to Cesc? He’s really handsome, definitely a lot of boyish charm!”

A soft breeze ran through the park and with her free hand, Namini tucked some chocolate curl behind an ear, still smiling. Prajna, on the other hand, looked like a fish out of water. Except, like its guardian, its cheeks were turning red, not blue. As the mischievous redhead absentmindedly accepted Cesc’s offer, rubbing the soft surface of its thumb against the silky rose-pink feather, the gears in its young mind slowly began to turn. For once… the Star felt humbled and absolutely flattered and… it just could not understand this feeling. It wasn’t sure how to respond! All it could do was blush stupidly before suddenly lashing out at Cesc, tucking the feather in a small pocket within the lining of its checkered vest, “Just shut up, ohmygod. You’re not talentless! Just…GOD.

In a swift motion, looking for something to take its mind off of Cesc’s and his attractive features and his kind words and alluring accent and just…him!, Prajna reached over to its cello case. Continuing in haste, it undid the latches and flung the case open. All of the hustle and bustle caught Namini’s attention, though she did not move. Even she was excited! She leaned in to whisper to Vivi and Shepard, “I think we got lucky today. I don’t know how you’ve raised him or if he’s just naturally charismatic, but something about your Cesc has got Prajna reeling! We may be able to catch some of Prajna’s cello playing~.” She ended with a giggle and even attempted to take another sip of wine, attempting to adjust to the tingling sensation of alcohol.

As Prajna pulled its magnificent onyx cello out of its case, floating higher so that it could avoid scratching the instrument against the casing, it immediately felt nervous. It had never played in front of anyone else aside from a mirror, sometimes Namini. Looking back at Cesc’s awaiting face for a moment, the Star tried to wrap its mind around which piece it would even attempt to play. And all this for some pink feather! Prajna’s mind scolded. Not even a kiss like was typically expected but… a feather! Prajna wondered if Cesc had cast some spell, performed some kind of hypnotic performance to cause the Star to feel such anxiety. Nonetheless, the Star corrected its stance and lifted its bow high before making direct eye contact with Cesc once more. A fervent blush still trickling over the Star’s pale features, the redhead murmured, “A promise is a promise, Cesc. Prajna will get that first something. Remember that!

Then Prajna closed its eyes, soothed its breathing and began to play. It was a warm day, a happy day and, as Prajna looked down at the strings and its guiding hand, it thought of meeting Cesc, fate and how things were just so odd and out of even its control…so it started to perform this.

Shepard and Vivi exchanged glances at the word 'parents'. Perhaps they had never discussed it, but neither of them felt particularly... parental over Cesc. There was a strangeness about the frei, an old-world quality to his soul and a confidence to his calmness that always seemed to forbid that kind of hierarchy in their family. To Shepard and Vivi, Rhedefre was someone foreign, someone in need of guidance, someone beloved -- but not a child, and certainly not theirs.

"Oh! I think the both of us cannot even think of Cesc calling us 'maman' or 'papa'!" Vivi said with a laugh, touching Namini lightly on the shoulder as she spoke. "It is hard to see him as a child, strangely -- but he came to us on May the 31st. We are quite taken with him, all the same! Do not worry for Prajna -- Rhedefre is not a trickster, not in any way."

"How long've you been with Prajna?" asked Shepard, taking a long drink from a water bottle.

As he finished speaking, however, the sudden sound of strings took his attention. Both Vivi and Shepard straightened unconsciously at the sound of music, and their eyes were drawn to the fallen star frei as he began to play.

Cesc, for his part, crossed his heart with one finger as Prajna mentioned the word promise, a faint smile on his lips. He dipped his head in a sort of bow and uncurled his fingers, putting it over his heart as though sealing it there. He would not forget his promise to the star frei, certainly, no matter how much time had passed. When there was something truly his, like that fragile and beautiful sound that Prajna's cello made, he would make sure to keep it for the other frei.

The frei stood still, looking at Prajna as he played. It was not a complex song, and it had points where it was staccato, but it was beautiful and soulful all the same. The world seemed to flicker around them, and Rhedefre seemed to forget it the second bow hit strings, looking at Prajna with softly glowing eyes and a faint, true smile, as though it was the only thing beautiful in existence -- or indeed, the only thing in existence at all.
