The sun was high in the sky as a 'thud' would be heard randomly throughout the forest. There was a slight breeze that would keep those under the shade cool, but as the sun beat down on those under it, they would surely be at least slightly sweating. One particular mare, despite the heat, stood under the sun, launching her spear as hard as she could at a nearby tree. Her spear would go flying from her mouth to the bark of the tree, causing the 'thuds'.
Emille stared at the tree and her spear. Earlier in the morning, she had been a lot closer to the tree. She had decided to move back a little bit further every time the sun moved a certain amount. Although she had made quite an accomplishment today, Emille knew there was only so much she could do, and her neck and jaw, although stronger now, was getting more tired from the strain of launching her spear while she landed on her front legs from a standing on her back legs position.
This, she could practice herself, but she, in reality, wanted someone she could practice tossing to their side. Emille had practiced before with others, but after a few times, she felt bad. Most of them had just wanted to fight, so once they lost to her, they wanted little more. In truth, Emille wanted someone like her daughter... Someone that would be willing to listen to the faults in their step and learn from her.
Trotting to the tree, she decided that if there was nothing better for her to do, Emille would practice with her spear until she could launch it a great distance. There was nothing better she could do at the moment anyways.

He had little idea of where he was going or what he was doing wandering through the trees turned open land. He was a stallion without much a purpose after failing to find his mate time and time again. What use was a knight that could not even rescue his damsel? Not that he was broken the spirit within was alive and well it just needed a reason to emerge again. The knight inside of him was dying to break free if only he would let it.
Sighing to himself he sat down observing the area thinking about what he could do next. He knew he would find his shadow mare but not when he would find her again. Never would he give up the search that was all he could think about. He had grown used to sleeping during the day and rising at night as she had hoping to find her among the shadows.
He was drawn from his thoughts as his ears twitched he heard something in the distance a sort of thumping..it would thump then be quiet and thump again. Shaking his short mane out he set off to discover where the noise was coming from. He was surprised when he came upon a mare but like the gentleman he was he called out a greeting before going any closer
"Hello there! I see this is where the thumping is coming from?" he eyed her carefully a warrior coming to mind

Emille, for the most part, was concentrating immensely on her training. She knew that her muscles were starting to tense, so she had to stop soon or risk hurting herself and being unable to practice for a few days, in which the idea bugged her more than the feeling in her neck. She was about to pull her spear out of the tree when she heard someone call over to her.
She was surprised to see a stallion. He seemed to her to be a full unicorn, but he also had an odd thing around his neck as well as cloth covers for his front legs, making them look like paws. "Why would anyone want to look like those horrible skinwalkers?" Ever since she got attacked the first time as a child, even though it wasn't a pure, Emille never really fancied paws. She had gotten over the tail thing, since Unicorns had tails like them, as well as her two children, an ex-lover, and someone that taught her something very important when she first had her kids.
After her thoughts, she shook her head sharply and cleared her mind. Emille smiled at the stallion that approached. "Hello, Sir. Sorry if my practice was disturbing you.. I had hoped I had found somewhere where there was little others, but I guess I was wrong." She bowed just slightly, apologizing.

He watched her throw her spear into the heart of a tree before going to fetch it and throw it again. This mare had to be strong it took alot of force to send objects flying through the air. He saw that she had noticed him and he smiled being the friendly stallion he was. Of course most thought he looked odd with his mane and paws but he only wished to embrace the spirit of a lion. He lived with the heart of a lion big and brave and very noble. He had seen lions before if only in his dreams they had true power how they could take down prey with a single swipe but he himself lived to help not to harm sown to the knights code.
He knew nothing about this mare but the way she carried herself she must be someone important. He saw her smile back at him and he nodded a greeting to her "I was in the distance and i heard you training from the other side of the forest..You are not bothering me mare.." he nodded again his mane blowing in the wind "There are not many others out here..another reason i to am here..My name is Kamau and you..?" he lowered his head and bowed to her as he did to all mares that came his way

Tucking her spear carefully and lovingly into the folds of her cape, Emille address the stallion again, smiling. "Nice to meet you, Kamau. My name is, Emille." She laughed a little bit. "I'm glad I didn't disturb you. I've been spending the day practicing."
"I was taught by another how to properly hold and throw my spear... But although it was okay at first, it pained me to how I could do it, that it still wasn't good enough. So today, I started at a point I was used to and slowly moved a few steps back and repeated the same thing." Emille was quite proud of how far away she had made it, but she didn't want to make it sound like it was that good. She still didn't feel good enough.
Emille smiled at him again. "I do have to admit, I'm getting a bit of a pain in my neck so I should stop soon. I do wish that I had someone else to practice with..."

He wondered how she managed to carry a huge spear around with her but he put the thought aside "Its nice to mee you to Emile" he smiled back at her "I know what it feels like to train and am quite used to its sound.." nodding he listened to her words "We will never be good enough all we can do is try..and do our best that is what counts no matter how you learn you can make the skill your own" he himself had been trained in combat but he possessed no weapon because he knew the things they cold do in the wrong hands.
"You will get farther and father away the more you try..but never perfect only when you are happy will be when you are good enough" nodding he eyed her again "Why did you take up the spear in the first place? Was it as a hobby? something more? I am a knight under my own code i learned how to duel because i wanted to not because i had to.." he laughed to himself of the past
"I used to be well known but my legend has faded and few remember it..though i am not old as one might think..i was born into a strong family and i became a student at a young age..Enough about me " he looks off to the distance "If you feel pain do not overdo it or it will only get worse.." his eyes had grown mischievous "If its a partner you seek its a partner you have i would be willing to duel with you"

Laughing just a bit, Emille smiled. "I wish my best was enough. For some reason, it never feels like it's enough." She knew that when she was younger, Emille hadn't really wanted to train, but once she had her first batch of kids and almost failed to protect one, strength was a necessity and never seemed to be enough. She taught this to one of her daughters and now, Emille hoped to bring strength to more.
"My father was the one to craft me my spear," Emille told Kamau as she looked at her spear lovingly. "It wasn't until I was attacked by a skinwalker when I was just a filly that he decided I needed to fight... I had it for a while, but didn't even take it up seriously until yet another skinwalker attacked myself and my middle child..." Sometimes it seemed painful to relieve things, but she knew that the strength she had today was thanks to those things that had happened.
Emille's ears perked as she heard the word duel. She had been aching to do something else for a while now, and a smile grew on her face. "Are you sure you are willing to? I know I am a mare, but I promise that I'm not someone that's easily to defeat." She grinned, just slightly.

"Why would you need to be better than the best you can do?" he turns his head slightly "You can never have everything you want..even if you feel like you need more" he eyes her thinking and knowing that there was no perfect. Who would want to be the best? That would mean you would have nothing to live for if your perfect at everything..but there was a limit to how much was enough. He eyed her again his mind wandering through the past.
"Your father crafted it for you..? he gave a spear to a mare?" his eyes are shining and he chuckles "Mares can be stronger than stallions it depends who is brave enough to try" he wished more mares would stand up for themselves "Skinwalker..i hate to think of them evil creatures they are..I am glad you showed who was in charge" he shifted in his spot slightly
"Willing to? I understand you are strong but can you beat a knight? I will not hold back " he smiles at her shaking himself "Never take your opponent lightly no matter who they are small or big..normal or kalona"

"I feel like I've failed too much with my family." Emille didn't really like thinking of her first love, but she knew that she wouldn't be where she was today without him. "I felt like I grew up too fast sometimes, but... Now I know that with gaining more strength, I can also share more strength and it makes me very happy!"
When Kamau mentioned her being a mare and being able to handle something like a spear, Emille smirked again. She knew that, on average, she was rather tiny for what would be considered a 'full-sized' mare, but thanks to the people she's met on her travels, size didn't really matter for her anymore. Of course, she once was intimidated by those larger than her, but not anymore.
Emille walked near a tree and took out her spear from her cape, putting it so it leaned against the tree. She also unclasped her cape and draped it over a low branch and walked back towards Kamau. She still smiled, slightly devious, but still more than excited for a new sparring partner. Emille stood in the stance she was taught and looked at Kamau directly in his eyes.
"Come at me, Kamau," Emille said gently. She didn't know what the stallion knew how to do. All she knew was that her heart beat with more excitement with each second she had to wait.

He listened to her inner thoughts and nodded at her "You can never fail..You cannot think yourself a failure just because bad things happen..They will happen but that will only make you a better mare" he nods at her again "We all can feel that way sometime..Even as a colt i was like this a brave and noble soul i had my mane when i was young" he looks off into the distance thinking of moments long gone "At least you are happy now as you can become stronger"
He shifts his position a little before looking at the sky and thinking quietly to himself about his past and everything he went though. This mare reminded him of himself before he knew any better about life he wanted to help her become stronger and more confident in herself.
He watches as she removes her cape and bring out her spear. Watching her he only nodded knowing never to underestimate any opponmet no matter mare or stallion. Many could pack a punch and would if given the chance. He grined back at her and stared into her eyes.
"All you needed to do was ask" He stood there for a moment before dodging off to the side and ducking behind her trying to stir up some dust for cover

Emille knew that she had failed before, but had more than accepted the failure. The events that had brought up such negative feelings caused her to step out of her frustrated state of mind and re-assess the things that she should be doing in life. She smiled at Kamau, not feeling like she needed to say anymore.
She closed her eyes as the dust started building up. Emille was still smiling, listening more for the sounds around her than the sight that had been taken away from her. It was somewhat amusing for Emille that Kamau used this tactic. The stallion was bigger than her, and she could assume that he was stronger and heavier than herself.
Breathing steadily, Emille just stood her ground, waiting for Kamau to get closer to her.
