And so, almost on cue (if he were, it would have been right before she tripped), a light, 'winged' buck arrived, stepping through the inconvenient gaps, thinner roots yielding and plateauing slowly under his hooves. He approached without a waver in his walk, and only paused to take in the sight of her peering up.
"Goodness, dear lady," he started, voice low and charming, with an attractive steadiness that seemed almost too calm to be real. "Did you fall? You're absolutely soaked."

"You are very sweet," he replied, his clear eyes half-lidded and seemingly harmless. "and if I were your mischevious little songbird, I would not ever leave you to trip into puddles, Be Mine."
He let her name and its implications hang in the air for a moment (though he wasn't sure if this doe was clever enough to catch it, her naivety seemed excessive), and continued, "such a poetic name, so fitting for your sweet demeanor. A name that, if I may opine, that signals the special things that the Motherfather has in store for you." A little wink and a chuckle, then "I am Sideways Down, and I do believe..." He looked down upon her unwitting smile and returned one of his own with a tender gaze. "...right now, I may be falling.
Ruriska Ouch. I hope that's not TOO lame. 8D;;

He knew his brother was about, the almost imperceptible rustle of shifting hooves serving to locate him - he imagined Light Up was squirming from his unabashed success with the doe, and a broad smile (rather, a smirk) spread across his face, a little sinister and slightly quirked up one side, matching Be Mine's smile of innocent delight.
"In which case, Be Mine," he said smoothly, gently guiding her past the potential cluster of mangrove, shoulder and flank sliding against her side with little tender touches, "Let us not think of your songbird, and let us learn more about each other instead. I must say that your charming swirls and rosy-hued pelt is incredibly beautiful, but more than that - it is such a suitable introduction to your darling personality." A 'heartfelt' sigh, and he continued with a very forward nuzzle, "Be Mine, my sweet, I must admit I am completely enamoured by all of you - horns to hoof, inside-out. I can't imagine a doe more perfect than yourself.

He envisioned his brother suffering, disdainful and disgusted and incredulous. He watched the doe, absolutely guileless and lovely, succumb to his advances. Sideways Down smiled - he smiled with genuine satisfaction, at peace that everything was falling into place neatly.
* * * * * * * He could not say it, but he could think it: in his esteemable opinion, there wasn't much more of Be Mine to know. A doe like Be Mine had her little childish pleasures, her sweetness of personality, her heartfelt belief in love and him - that he knew from their first meeting. Ideal for the task. The path was barely winding - it was smooth and simple, and distracting her from the imminent fall ahead had only been tedious. The courtship, needless to say, went splendidly: now they lay lazily on a dry patch under a tree, an idyllic sight tangled together within the roots that closed about the couple.
"Be Mine," he murmured, nosing the back of her ear. "Isn't this lovely, my dear maiden? If only moments like this could last forever, with the sun peeking through the leaves, with you. I've never been so content."
Ruriska SOB NO BAD BUCK BAD BUCK!
