Another warm mid-summer evening was coming to an end as the night was slowly falling over the grassy hills of Watership Down. A soft breeze was chasing the remaining clouds as it ran and hurried through the blades of grass. Pinehill had just had a nice meal. Eating was hard in such hot days, even for a large rabbit like him. And, he was indeed large. And he loved eating, snacking and just munching on something. He could do it all day long. That was probably the reason why he was nearly as big as an adult rabbit, quite larger than most of his peers, but despite his size he was a quiet one. He kept to himself most of the time and was somewhat shy when it came to communication. It was probably because he always felt odd about his size and others' perception of it. The way others saw him bothered him deeply. ...too deeply to fall asleep sometimes. Like that evening for example. Brown paws going quickly through the cream fur of his face and his brown ears. He had to look good. He was going out for a walk. A calm, quiet one.
As he went out of the cool and dark burrow he could see that it was still light outside. These last few moments of twilight had always captivated the brown outskirter with their majestic beauty. Hopping slowly and even sluggishly he reached a small hill with a nice view of the sky above him. As large as he was- the sky was always larger, always watching over him and sometimes, other rabbits told him that it even had the very same colour of his eyes. He sat on the hill looking upwards and imagining all the shining stars that were soon going to pop up there.
Pinehill smiled to himself as he once again remembered how much he loved his own company. The company that was soon to be broken.

While Underwing never met her father, she and many of her siblings shared the bane of his existence, that thick, white fur that spoke of very obvious hutch lineage. Being the direct descendant of a hutch rabbit most definitely had it's drawbacks, namely the vibrant white that caused her to stand out amongst the grass that was meant to shelter her, but it also gave her some advantage in size. While she was not yet as big as Pinehill, she was definitely putting on some weight and was almost the spitting image of her hefty father, who had died on a farm raid before she had been born.
She was still a young thing, inexperienced in the ways of the world, though she had been well informed of all the dangers that lurked within it, or at least the dangers known to rabbits. Be careful, that was what she was always told. Stop, scent, listen. Be swift. She ingrained these things into her memory, so that perhaps one day she could be a rabbit her father would have been proud of. She'd heard stories. She knew he had worked hard, especially for a hutch rabbit. She wanted to fill his pawprints, if it was possible. She'd darn well try.
It was a nice, calm evening, the perfect sort for a late night siflay or a small amble about the warren's topside. The young creature didn't often venture far from her marli's side, but this was one of those evenings. She was getting too large to be considered a kitten, yet she was still too young to be considered an adult to the warren, which left her in a rather awkward position. She pondered these things as she inched out of the tunnel's entrance and into the cool, night air. She did as she had been taught. She looked, she scented the breeze, she listened, and when she figured it was all clear, she leapt from the safety of the ground to join the few, if any, rabbits that were up and about.

Eyebright could hear his father breathing deeply as he slept by his side. The warmth of his father's fur had always comforted him, above all else it made him feel secure. Tonight was different though. Tonight Eyebright was determined to distance himself from his family just a little, it was time he learnt to be his own rabbit.
Ever so softly Eyebright shuffled away from the larger buck's side, sniffing him gently to be sure he was completely asleep before making his get away. As he made his way outside the young buck stood straight up, his ears and nose moving in all directions to be sure it was safe. He was not the biggest outsider around but he was quite long and slender, as he stood up on his back paws one could almost mistake him for a jack-rabbit if it weren't for his regular sized ears.
As he sniffed the air, he became aware that he wasn't alone outside of the warren this evening.

As he was sitting there all by himself, suddenly he wasn't really all by himself. Not at all. He sensed a couple of other scents but as he stood up on his strong back feet and turned his head from side to side, sniffing the night air ever so intensively he realized that they were only others of his own kind. He wondered who could be out so late, at such a dangerous time, though. He definitely wasn't a very cautious one but from what he'd seen he knew that most members of the warren were.
He hopped around to try and see where the scent was coming from but it was not yet coming from one place but three. He got up on his back feet again, ears perched upward, pointing towards the few stars that had just started to show and realized that one of the others wasn't that far from him. As he turned from side to side looking around he noticed a white blurry figure near by. It wasn't very hard to see the pure white pelt. Especially, since the night was coming and coming fast and it was starting to get darker by the minute.
He stood on the edge of his small hill, hopping once again on his back feet, looking straight at the white pelt as it was moving. His ears on guard, just in case elil decided to attack him. It was as if he was trying to welcome the light one to come and talk to him, though he was too shy to go and greet anyone himself.
