In another word, "insane". An old man with an incredibly laid-back attitude and far too much vitality for a man his age, Gabi seems completely immature and ignorant to most who see him. However he fiercely believes in freedom and has unusually keen insight, far beyond what credit he is usually given. Boisterous, loud, and charismatic, Gabi's strength is well-known throughout his subordinates and despite his quirks, there is no one else they would rather serve under. A promise made to Gabi is a promise in stone, and anyone who breaks a promise to him has no place in his ranks. As a rule, he tends not to take things too seriously, and will not read a mail or report that crosses his desk if it is longer than three lines, no exceptions. Bio: Like several members of the Embryon Group, much of Gabi's past is no longer available in the files. However what is assumed about him is that due to his advanced age, he is the oldest [living] Atma User, that he has been aware of his power longer than any other Atma User, and that he has probably done less with his power than any of the other four Captains, including the Lord General. Having been a par of the military for longer than he can remember, Gabi lives by a single iron code...freedom. People should be free to do as they wish, including private citizens and military personnel. While this generally would contradict his position in the military, Gabi would likely tell you that he the whole deal of being a part of Embryon is interesting, and that Balmung is a "pretty good guy". One can assume that somewhere in that is his reasoning for remaining a member of the team, and the basis for his participation as a Captain. And while his subordinates are easily the least orderly on the base [much to the chagrin of some of the other Captains], he is still quite beloved and tolerated for his immense personal strength and the command he has of those who follow him [when he deigns to use it]. It is also assume that Gabi has not shaved in years...possibly ever. Which explains the thick hair that covers much of his body and his impossibly large and unruly mane [something of a combination of his hair and beard]. Those who take failure under his watch lightly are wont to wish they hadn't, as there is rarely a second chance...even for those who consider themselves 'above the cut' in the Masked Circle's fold. Bio: A fighter from a young age, King Leo's parents brought him to Japan illegally to escape their own country after they failed the government in Russia, allowing many secrets to leak out that deemed them worthy of "disposal". Only a short time after coming to Japan though, their tails caught up and left the parents brutally murdered while Sergei hid from the assassins, overhearing only that they would remove any evidence by burning the home, and the hidden child with it. In some form of luck, Sergei managed to escape the burning home and the servants of his motherland had fled due to the approaching sirens.
A short time later he was sent to an orphanage under his new name "Makarov", after he had refused to divulge any information about himself; and due to his parent's new and reclusive nature, no one in the neighborhood had known the family, much less that they had children. Unfortunately the professionals were not so easily fooled, and one night they found the orphanage, slipping in quietly using the ID card of a dead staff member while Makarov, who had developed an acute case of insomnia after convincing himself they would return, was the first to notice their entrance. Convinced he couldn't stop them in a fair fight, Makarov slipped out before anyone had noticed, and reset the lock on the doors suddenly, the assassins having left the card with the deceased body near the door. Then, he decided to "baptize" the orphanage, just as they had his home; and that night not only did the chase for the young Russian end with the death of everyone involved in his old existence, but also with the deaths...of every single child in the orphanage.
Once again graced with poor luck however, Makarov was arrested a short time later, and rightly pinned with the crime of arson. With some convincing however, it was defended as an accident, but his cold demeanor and insistence that no one of importance had died led him to be sent to an asylum, where he would stay indefinitely...likely meant to grow old and die before he ever saw the sunlight again. It was in this asylum he met Tatsuya Sudou, a man who raved constantly about his past, and a witch who had cursed him with the power of Persona, as well as a boy named Tatsuya Suoh who had used that same power to give him his scar. As they continually met Tatsuya Sudou's stories became more and more outlandish, and often times he was even restrained, or they were forced to separate as both were considered dangerous and capable of provoking each other's insanities. And to be fair, they were right. Makarov believed Tatsuya Sudou, all the insanities he spoke and even the things that seemed proven through his power, and in time that madman escaped to become 'King Leo', showing the world that everything he said was true. Though rumors disappeared, and Tatsuya Sudou disappeared in the battle to follow, and even as memories of those events were stripped away, one madman remained; Makarov, who even before the great incident in Sumaru City, had believed whole heartedly in the fires consuming Tatsuya Sudou's burning will.
Like two peas in a pod, a King and his mirror image, what Tatsuya Sudou did once Makarov did later. Eventually Makarov broke free of the asylum, not freed like Sudou, and found the JOKER to take on the power he'd desired for so long. Granted the rank of King Leo, he sought to both force Tatsuya Suou and Maya Amano to remember their crimes against Sudou using their devil's power, and to set the whole of the world ablaze again, to baptize it for the worthy who would believe in JOKER's power. Makarov has lived his entire life succeeding in situations that were life and death, and to him, the concept of a failure that does not matter hardly exists. If one of their organization faces a Persona User and fails, there is no escape to see another day; even the most menial of failures in gathering followers for JOKER-sama can result in extreme punishment, the likes of which make those who now live in the Masked Circle fear to return without success in their arms.
First JOKER Game: King Leo's power came from the JOKER game, a rumor equal to the Persona game that was said to make your dreams come true. Like two sides of the same coin, each brought power to the user, but King Leo's faith in JOKER never wavered, and so he cast aside the worthless Persona game without ever giving it consideration. Instead, upon his return to society, he found three hapless fools to assist him in the ritual...and then promptly killed them. Still, it greatly differs from it's creator in it's lament of the past, whereas he embraces the inferno that gave rise to the Lion. As long as he can consume all the weak in a blaze, King Leo will be satisfied with the power he's gained through JOKER's Ideal. Bio: From a fairly young age, Ruri displayed an interest in weaponry, including guns. This being Japan, with its notorious firearms control laws, it wasn't exactly practical to let her get one... at least, not until they found out about a Government program designed to take in potentially violence-prone youths and turn them into loyal, hardworking soldiers of the JSDF. The short version of the story is that it worked. Unfortunately, this wasn't a major Government project; it was more of a minor initiative initiated fairly low on the totem pole, so they didn't have a lot of financing, and they ended up sharing a building with some other projects. Not everyone was quite as careful as they should have been, and an accident resulted in the Atma Virus being spread throughout Ruri's entire class. After the resulting bloodbath, barely a third of the class was left, and the program was ultimately terminated. Ruri was shipped off to the Embryon so they could more-or-less take care of her, and the original hope was basically that nobody would ever have to worry about her again. The Embryon's members know what it's like to be abandoned by authority, though, and at the urging of their bunny-eared secretary, they worked to bring out Ruri's latent talent. Her incredible marksmanship ability didn't hurt, and ultimately, she was accepted into the higher ranks. Many of the older members still tend to think of her as the kid they're taking care of, though, so she doesn't have all the respect someone of her rank usually gets... Trigger. Trig Age: 20 Appearance:  Love Interest: No.....Why do you ask? Personality: Kurou's a very quiet individual... rarely speaking, even if spoken to...And quite a loner. He rarely shows emotion on the field or off, deadpanning most everything he says. It's hard to tell if he's constantly in deep thought, or simply just ignorant. He doesn't like to interact much, being more of a business-oriented figure, but he's not incapable of talking with others; He just doesn't care for it. When he's on the job, or focusing on something, his eyes tend to focus on it intensely, sometimes to the detriment of his surroundings, making his focus impeccable...if a bit dangerous. He's also got an impatient streak, having a habit of drumming his fingers whenever he is waiting on something for longer than a few seconds. Bio: Kurou grew up in a quiet home, being mostly unremarkable. He didn't excel in school, nor at sports. He just kind of...fell into the middle of things. Later on in his high-school career, he became a foreign exchange student in America, and was housed with a slightly southern, Gun-obsessed Family. While they were less than impressed with his stature, and unremarkability, one day they brought him to a shooting range, to 'man him up.' What they didn't expect though, was that he was a natural at shooting. Without them having to instruct him much, he quickly adapted to the guns they got him to fire, and as such, they were impressed. After a few more rounds at the shooting range, they Christened him 'Trigger', after his remarkable affinity for firearms, [particularly rifles.] As he finally started to enjoy being praised and such though, something came through the worlds to hunt him down, seeing his stature as a delightful snack. Though he tried to use a few of his family's firearms to protect himself, it was a different sort of thing that saved him that night.... The Atma Virus. It had been dormant for a while, but he awakened to it that night, and tore the demon he fought apart, devouring it messily in a rage. As he found himself back to his human form, he was soon deported back to Japan, where he was scouted out by the Military. Though he was forced to leave school with his new condition, he learned of his potential, and became a solider in the Embryon. With this role came a return of one of the few things he felt familiarity to... Guns. After he demonstrated his ability, he was permitted to carry a firearm, and eventually learned to harness his Atma. Over time, he steadily rose in the ranks of the Embryon, eventually ending up as a Captain. Though some of the others deem him a bit strange...or maybe even picture him as the dark Mysterious type... in all truth.. Kurou's not really got any huge secrets or such. He's pretty much exactly as you would see from him..and he's an open book too. All one has to do..is ask. Twitch Age: 21 Appearance: Love Interest: W..Well, there was this director back in America.... Personality: Sophie acts a bit serious, but she gets flustered easily. She's easily fooled, but has a deathly serious side to her. When she buckles down, her skills are exceptional, and her focus is impeccable. Though, she also has an impatient streak that tends to get her in over her head. Bio:Sophie was a solider in the same group that Kurou was in. She'd grown up in a mundane life, before opting to join the military when she got old enough. As she was a newbie, she was assigned to a mission with Kurou, and was saved by his uncanny sniping ability. She was inspired at this, and sought to take up sniping, to be as impressive as he was. However,on a particular mission gone sour, a strange force had been involved in the mishaps, and attempted to kill off her whole squad. After watching several of her squadmates being devoured by the demon from her sniping position, she awakened to the power of Atma, transforming for the first time. She moved from her spot at this, and killed off the demon as she approached, avenging her fallen comrades. When she returned to base, she was brought into the Embryon, where she learned her idol, Kurou, was also a member of the organization. Along the way, she learned that she didn't have as much of an eye for sniping, but still had phenomenal aim for smaller guns. Though the two seemed to ascend the ranks together, Kurou seemed to have a head-start, reaching captain before her. Despite this, she's gained powerful control over her powers, and intends to use them to manage any threats that come their way. Extremely skilled in reconnaissance due to her unique abilities, she is used to hiding away when she's embarrassed or unsure what to do. Despite her nature, she likes guys who are confident and like to fight, and wishes her abilities were more combat oriented so she could fight against/with them. Bio: Awakened to her power at a young age and was found by Embryon during a time when she had used her power to run away from home. He looks down on humans as if they are a lesser species and shows great disdain for them. Despite his personal feelings, he follows orders for the most part when it comes to eliminating demonic threats to mankind. He writes it off as getting a free meal to deny the fact he was actually helping the race he so hates. Envy only shows respect to those ranked above him, except for some that truly grate on his nerves. Those below him get a good taste of his sour attitude on a regular basis unless they somehow get on his good side.. Which isn't easy to accomplish mind you. Bio: Kirai's life has always been hard right from the very beginning. His family was very poor, barely making ends meet and were always being pestered by those that wanted to take what little they had. He was just another mouth to feed and his parents made that perfectly clear. They openly blamed him whenever they were low on anything from food to cash and it only grew worse through the years. Kirai finally had enough and ran away when he was twelve years old. Life on the streets was a struggle and fight everyday but that was the life he chose. There was no way he could depend on those back home or anyone out on the streets as well. It was a world in which one had to fend for themselves and look out for no one. Kirai had no idea how or why but something changed within him, something immense. He gained incredible power and an odd mark upon his outer thigh that wouldn't go away. At first it greatly confused him but soon realized he could control this new power. Kirai wasted no time in using this for his own personal gain, forcing others to hand over money and anything else of value. This continued for a while until a certain organization caught wind of his crimes and found him with ease. Kirai made the mistake of attacking them but luckily those present were of the forgiving nature after beating him with ease. They introduced themselves as Embryon and gave him two simple options. Join them or die. While he hated to admit it, they were stronger than he was and really would kill him. So Kirai joined Embryon and focused on increasing his power. Why? To climb the ranks to where he wouldn't have to take orders and get easily beaten down again. Now he sits at the rank of Lieutenant and is content for now but keeps a wary eye for opportunities to take the next step. Bio: Sinbad originally was not apart of any such group that would lead him to his current status. He originally started out as a gang leader, albeit very protective of his members. They weren't really dangerous or disruptive or anything, but just well known for what kinds of mischief they would create. But as the government had encroached upon what he had worked so hard as a family to create, he defended it with his own life to protect his gang members. And with the devotion that he displayed towards his nakama, he was given a decision instead of direct jail-sentencing: to go to jail along with the rest of them or to have all of them serve the government. With his choice in hand, he decided to protect his gang mates by allowing to serve the government. But before they were even able to finish the deal, tragedy struck, and a demon had intervened, killing many of his allies, and wounding himself as well as branding him with the Atma curse. So now, he follows along with his nakama's last wish and protects the entire Embryon divisions as if they were his own family. Personality: Probably the happiest person on the base, Reina is chipper, energetic, and has a lot of fun with her job as Balmung's Secretary, processing paperwork while chatting with the other support staff who help keep things running. She doesn't seem to have a problem with flirting, no matter who she's actually flirting with, which can make conversations with her rather interesting. Reina also has a strange attraction to carrots. Bio: Reina is something of a quirk as far as the power of Atma goes. She can't actually transform, nor does she appear able to access the various powers typically granted to the users of Atma. Instead, when she first tried transforming, her transformation went partway... then stopped, refusing to budge forward or backward... leaving a bunnygirl who has both ears and a fluffy round tail. Reina's gotten used to this, though, and now seems to actually enjoy the little quirks. Being unsuited for combat roles (though some said a bunnygirl charging in with a machinegun would be awesome), Reina wound up doing paperwork, and she soon became Balmung's secretary, helping to organize his schedule and keep the Embryon's base, wherever it might currently be, running smoothly. She's fairly popular not only among the Ensigns, who she outranks, but the more senior officers as well. Due to events, she has recently begun working for Mokou as an aide. Bio: One of a pair of brothers who were taken from their parents in their early teens to get treatment for the Atma Virus they had recently contracted (resulting in the maiming and near-death of a classmate who had injured Rolles's younger brother on the playground one night after dark), the military gave them little choice in what they wished to do with their lives from that point forward. That Rolles had nearly killed a young teen child had stolen away all of their options, leading to a guilt deep inside of the protective older brother that eventually began to manifest into a fiery temper and an outright distrust of authority figures that, despite being smart enough to follow orders, made his constant clashes with other unit commanders a troubling mark upon his track record. His ability on the battlefield was undeniable, but his willingness to deviate from plan at the threat of any danger to his little brother or a provocation from another enemy made him too big of a threat to consider for promotion on multiple occasions. In honesty, it was likely only due to an oversight on his personality report that he had been allowed the promotion from Major to Lieutenant recently...or perhaps just a simple lack of other worthy, powerful candidates. Nonetheless, his recent reassignment to Inaba has seen him placed under a leader he is familiar with from previous encounters outside of Inaba has given him at least some perspective on his role in the organization.
