Onto Characters and Their Roles

The next couple of posts is an entire list of all current characters within "The Untold Fairytale" available and taken. Keep in mind, you can create your own character without it being someone from the list and with whichever race you want as long as you follow the rules. Of course, I will review each character. If I disapprove of your character because it is breaking the rules, I will pm you to edit your post.

Plus: each of these roles may also be whatever race you choose if not already specified. Just as long as you're that role when it comes to who they are. If you decide to be a elf that's a fisher, or a human that's a princess--this is fine. A king that's a demon, or a werewolf that's a cook--that's fine. You are free to be whatever you want to be. Just follow that role. If you're a cook, then you're a cook. If you're a king, then you're a king. If you're a fisher, then you're a fisher. Etc.

HOWEVER! When it comes to your character's family, and those related to your character, you must ask the players of that family if your character can be the same race or a different race. If you're the first member of that family, then it's up to you if your character's family can be the same race as your character or different.

xxxxxExample 1: You want to roleplay the prince of the Third Kingdom, and you see that the king of that kingdom is an elf. But, you want to be a human. You ask the king's player if your character can be human, or at least half-human. It's up to the king's player if he/she wants to roleplay their character with your character as a human or as an elf. The player may want the king's family to be elves, or perhaps they're okay with the king's son being half human, or maybe they're okay with you being adopted?

xxxxxExample 2: You want to become a Pirate Captain's daughter or son. The captain is actually a demon, but you want to roleplay a race a little less dark for your character. It's up to the captain's player if your character can be what race you want them to be in order for your character to become their character's son or daughter. They may accept your character being adopted to where the captain treats your character as if your character were the captain's child.

xxxxxExample 3: You already have the character you want, and that was to be an Inn owner. Your character is a vampire, and you have fun roleplaying to where he's/she's a rather great barkeeper. However, you receive a message from someone who wants to roleplay your character's wife/husband. You are a vampire, but you aren't sure who/what you want your character's spouse to be. You must ask yourself, would your character be married? And if so, to what? If it comes down to it, you do have the option to roleplay them dating before the two characters marry, but it's up to you.

xxxxxExample 4: Your character is a small child, and you wish for someone to roleplay to be your older or younger sibling. You have already decided your race, and you want your brother/sister to be the same race. Someone sends you a message to roleplay as your character's sibling, but they don't want to be the race you want them to be. You have to decide to refuse their request, or simply talk to them to see why they don't want to be the race you have already chosen. Be respectful, and if in the end you do not agree-- there are other players.

Basically, if you want to be a member of a particular family, you'll have to be the same race or ask the other players if you can be a different race. This deals with all families, not just families of those who are royalty. This will help maintain a more organized roleplay setting and if you have any questions about it simply click here and say them to me or a crew member.

Note: The Seven Sins do not count as a family. If you read the plot of the roleplay, you learn that the Seven Sins are demon spirits within a host. If you are roleplaying one of the Seven Sins then you decide what race their host is. In the end, what's inside is demon but what's outside is up to you.

These characters are some you may recognize, for they are from Wonderland itself. However, a few of them are different now. But, in the end..it's up to you who or what they are. ~Rules that must be followed in creating your character~
You must also follow the Guild Rules as well as ToS

xxxxWhen creating your character, make sure to fully read the first page of the profile topic. Check the Home(s) post to see where your character could live, or create the topic later on in whichever kingdom you desire. Check who you can be and who you can't be.

xxxWhenever 'The Method' is mentioned, know that this is referring to if your character fights and uses The Method.
More information upon The Method here. You choose whether to not use it when in battle, it is completely optional.

xxxRespect what you are.
You are ______. Whatever race you are, you are that race.
If you have wings, you can fly. No wings, no fly. If you powers to fly, then fly. If you can not fly...you can not fly. Vice versa with many other abilities. Please do not make this complicated, any questions post them here.

xxxFor every power, ability, and weapon you have: you must put how you obtained them.
Just as the above rule states, you cannot fly if you cannot fly. This goes for all sorts of abilities, and powers. Here, you must list how you obtained that power or ability. Were you born with it, or did you obtain it through hard work and research? What cost does it give you if you use the power or ability too much? With weapons, I'd like a background on how your character earned it but you may simply put who gave it to you or how you bought it.

xxxYour character DOES NOT have to be one the characters in the list above!!!
You can create your own character. You can use any race, and can be in any of the kingdoms provided. Please recall that in the first post, it states that your race may or may not be the same as your family's. Message your character's family members to see if you can be a different race, or the same. For you character, all you have to do is follow the rules mentioned in the 'Create your own Character' section and the rules already mentioned.

xxxIf your character IS one the characters in the list above
Please remember that if a race is not specified, that you can also be any race. But, remember from the first post that if your character has a family that it is either up to you or the player of that family if your the same race or not. If you need help making a character, simply read how to create one above this post. If you already have experience with rp, than the guide may help inspire you.

xxxIf a role of the story is taken, you cannot be that role.
I understand if you wanted your character to be someone, and that someone is "taken". But, it is first come and first served. If that person is inactive, and doesn't post then I will delete them and the role will be open. Or, you could also check "A Fairytale Untold" to see if the same role might be in that Book. If all else fails....send me a private message about the role you wanted that is now taken. Perhaps I can help you choose a different role, or maybe help you create a role similar.

xxxIf creating an npc, it does not require a skelly unless its existence is longer than six posts.
If you're making up a random npc on the dot, it doesn't need a profile and barely needs a name. If the npc won't be in the roleplay very long, there's almost no point in their existence. However, if they're in the roleplay for more than six posts then you need to have a profile for them. (Npc profiles can be in the same post as your characters)

xxxAll npcs can not be from the "list", but can have their own roles in them. Though there are exceptions
None of the npcs are from the list, and if they are it's from the creator creating a role for them. Or, because the npc was needed. There will be times in the roleplay where a character will need another character to continue thus they're able to npc the other character (if REALLY needed). The Guild captain usually does this, and if the npc exceeds six posts then she will create a profile for the npc. Same should go for anyone else in this situation.

xxxAfter reading the rules, and creating your character, please post the character using the skelly provided.
The skelly is within this post, simply copy and paste the code in your post. Fill out the post with the code, and if you need help with your character read how to create your character below. With each profile of this Profile Topic, you must put a certain smiley. mrgreen No, not that one. For "The Untold Fairytale", each profile should have the 'big laugh' smiley. Or, if you're upset do 'rolling eyes'.

xxxRemember your character.
Be it. If you want to change it, speak to me or if you're a character from The Book than speak to the Author in character or ooc. This i up to you whether to talk to me through pms, or have fun rping the situation by going to the Author, himself. Got any other parts? If you have a tail, flicker it and interact with it every once and awhile. If you have extra arms or legs or any other body part...interact with them. Have fun with it~ wink

xxxDo not overuse the powers given to you and/or your character(s)
No Godmodding, as already stated in the Main Guild Rules. I will temporarily ban you from the guild if necessary. This includes overusing all your: powers, abilities, and weapons. Use all appropriately.

xxxThere are leaders that you must follow.
Yes, you can be a rebel...but, not always. If you're a Sin, you know that Pride is the leader and if disobeyed there is punishment from Pride. If you're a pirate, you can disobey your Captain once a day...besides that, obey your Captain and be loyal. If you serve a king, queen, or anyone else...serve them properly. The Author is technically a leader, but in reality he isn't. The Author who created "A Fairytale Untold" and "The Untold Fairytale" is looked among most as a respected individual.

xxxRespect scars, wounds, and weaknesses.
Yes, you're fictional. But, you're not god. If you have a scar, it comes with/from a source. If you are wounded, then whatever is wounded is a wound until otherwise healed. If your character has a weakness with light, then you can't just ignore light. Respect the limits, okay?

You may have a limit of four characters for each of the "Main Rp"s. (More upon this in the Guild Rules)
Main Rp= A FairyTale Untold, The Untold Fairytale, and all the "Real" characters involved in the Main Rp.

Note: If you have the same character in both books by the same name, and role - you must have them as completely different people. They can not be the same character and you should choose how they're different.
(If the role is taken from the other book, then you can not have the same character in the other book. All Roles already in the list is first come, first serve. However you can create a similar role with permission from GC, and Crew)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxCommon Questions regarding the Skelly--

xxxQ: Who is the Author?
A: If your character has never interacted with the author, you know that he is the Author by rumors and what he is like thanks to other rumors. You know he is very powerful and can summon anything using only his quill. You know that is his appearance is a young man in a long coat with bandages all over his body. To you, you may think he uses magic when he uses his quill. You may have reasons to love him or to hate him. It all depends on what kind of past your character has and who they really are. For if you know the Author personally thanks to a situation or an issue that occurred previously, than you know him better then most.

But, if I disapprove of your past with the Author: I will inform you to edit your post. Like if it clashes with the plot, or it's a situation where the Author wouldn't do. Other than that, have fun creating your character's past.

Examples

E1: Tael is the princess's servant. He hates the Author for creating his princess in such a corrupt kingdom. For the Author could have easily created the perfect kingdom for his princess, and so he despises him.

E2: Tael is thankful towards the Author, instead, because he loves the princess and thanks the Author for making her part of his life. He tries to help the Author any way he can from there forward.

E3: Tael is indifferent towards the Author. But, if he dares to hurt his princess....the Author will pay for it dearly. Besides that, if he visits the castle he shall treat him like he treats all his other guest regardless of his power.

In other words, you either: hate him, like him, or you simply don't care.

xxxQ: What if we don't know where our character(s) should live??
A: Simple, look at all each kingdom offers. Only the Sixth Kingdom has an ocean, yet other kingdoms have lakes. See which environment you would prefer your character to live in. If they would prefer a forest, which kind of forest suits? They may want to live in a village, so which village suits him/her?

But, they don't have to live in an area. You decide what kingdom they reside in, and from there you can have them live somewhere or create a topic for their home.

Example: This is the Author's home. It is in the Main Kingdom, and I described the home to the best of my capability to where you really know it is his home. I decided the Main Kingdom to be his kingdom since he would be there mostly thanks to the events. Note how I put no one is allowed in at the moment. In the future, I may edit it to where only certain people may enter...but that's about it. The Author is the personal type so he wouldn't want people in his home unless invited.

xxxQ: My character's role/title? How should I do that?
A: Give your character a title~ Like, if they are from the list they already have a title. But, other then that when making your own character give them their own title. If you need more help with that, it will be in the "Creating your character's role, and title" part within the "Creating your Character: Part 2" below. It covers it pretty well, and even provides examples. As for the answer, just think of what your character is. Maybe use your character's race within the title? Or your character's occupation? But, like I said, it's up to you.

Creating your own Character~ Part 1

This is always the best part! Creating your character! You can make them however you want them (if all rules permit) plus rp them afterwords in the rps you want~! You could make a female or a male, maybe they have no gender? rofl It doesn't matter, you decide!

Note: Experienced players have the choice to read or skip "Things to Consider", and "Part 2". But, any player looking for guidance on how to create their character should read both parts. There's also an npc guide for those who want to use npcs. Again, experienced players can skip guide though it may inspire them.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxThings to Consider....

xxxxWhat rp will be your rp?

This is the "A Fairytale Untold" Profile topic, and if you're not interested in making a character for this rp.......you need to check out what rps you are interested in. Links to other rps as well as other info is in the first post.

This roleplay involves a more medieval setting where magic and fairytales exist together. Each kingdom is in its own dimension, but there are many ways to travel to the other kingdoms. More about the roleplay and its plot is located here.

xxxxWho will your character be?

Is it a girl? A boy? A man? Or a lady? A human? A beast? A monstrous creature? A innocent being? You decide who they will be! They could be a person from the list I created or they could be someone with an occupation from the list of "Where you can stay for the night or day. Have a home there, or work here, or maybe just visit" .

You decide who your character is within the roleplay. Are they a villain, or a hero? Are they to be from a fairytale or a legend? Here within the roleplay try to think of stories you heard of as a kid, or simply draw inspiration from the races from those stories. Be you a beast or another supernatural creature, you decide who your character will be.

xxxxWhy is your character...them?

This is usually based on their past. Like: they're scared of spiders because a spider bit them when they were younger, or maybe they hate men because a man betrayed them long ago? This also affects your personality in a character just the same. They could be really quiet because they hate to talk or is shy to others. They could be really mean towards others because they just don't care or maybe just wants people around them to hate them. It's all up to you why your character is the way they are.

They could be cursed by a witch, or perhaps they might as well be cursed. They may blame the Author for their fate, or themselves. They may be the type to try and change their fate, or try to help others as their fate. It is up to you why they decide what they do and why they do it. What's their motive?

xxxxHow will they proceed?

How will they look upon each event and go on. If someone dies, how will they react? If someone is born, what will they do? If something happens to them, or has happened, it's good to consider how the character proceeds after it. Like how they proceed or choose to.

They may be new in town, or they may be an old residing member of the town itself. They may want to explore the world, or perhaps find something or someone. How they go on with their lives is up to you, and how far they are willing to go.

xxxxWhen will they appear within the rp?

This is good to consider as well, and it plays a vital part to your character. They might appear when a battle is nearby and have to react to it. They might appear right when someone needs their help, or just by someone about to die. Who knows what is happening? If you would like to read what has happened so far though....click here.

It can be hard for some players to enter the roleplay with their characters. But, you should try to be more open. If there's a battle, and it is a battle your character would be interested in try to get involved. Would your character want to fight or observe? If there's a conversation between a group of people, try to read the conversation to see if it's a private conversation or not. If it is not private, try to join the conversation. You may accidentally bump into one of them, and then join the conversation by chance. Or, you could simply join the conversation. Perhaps your character is lost, and need to ask the people where to go?

There might be a situation where you can't join the roleplay just yet, maybe because the current group of characters is busy with something you can not join or perhaps your character can not join thanks to another reason. It's always fun to try to make up your own situation and try to get npcs involved. Maybe have an npc try to rob your character, or perhaps you save an npc from being robbed? This helps with interaction, and another character may jump into the situation you have created instead of you jumping into another person's situation.

Creating your own Character~ Part 2

When creating your character, you always follow the 'skelly' of each rp. Skelly is a common rp term used for when you use a basic character info guide kinda like their "skeleton". Skeletons (or Skellys) differ from roleplay to roleplay, so be sure to not miss any fine print. Some roleplays require you to put a smiley in the skelly to ensure you have read the rules, or perhaps they'll ask you to title the post/pm with a certain name as well. Topic roleplays usually has it where you post the profiles, but some roleplays may be where you have to send the rp creator your profile first. Simply read the rules to see what the case may be.

Creating your character. After you have went through all the questions I stated earlier, I hope you ask yourself the same questions when creating your character. But, first thing is first is deciding what your character should be. Will they be a beast/monster, a princess/prince, a man/woman, a fairy/witch, etc. Try to check the rules out to see what all you can't do, and then get started.

Deciding their role within the roleplay. Each character has a certain role within each roleplay. They may be the villain, or one of the heros, or perhaps just a passerby. Your character can be whatever you want her/him to be, and their role is important for when you want to join the roleplay. Check the "Who will your character be?" section to see what I mean by that. You may choose a role I have already listed, which is fine, or you may create your own role. What I mean by this, is to create your own role to where you create it and not use one I have already listed. Please check the list to see if I have it already listed before doing so please.

Creating your character's role, and title. You may choose to create your own role or use a role I have listed. If you choose to create your own, keep in mind what the rules are within this roleplay please. In creating your own role, it is best to base it off your character. Your character may have a special ability/power that makes them who they are aka their role. Your character may have a certain occupation which also makes them who they are aka their role. Does this make sense? Read the examples to see what I mean. As for their title, base your character's title off of their role. If that's hard to understand, also please read the examples provided.

Examples of Roles and Titles:

xxxxE1: Tael is the princess's servant. Ever since he was little he has had to serve her. When they were kids, he would play with her in games she chose and do what was asked of him. As he grew older, he was taught in how to protect her and does so today. Thus, Tael has the role of protecting the princess and being a loyal servant. Tael: A Princess's Servant or The Princess's Protecter. One of these two could be his role, and/or his title.

xxxxE2: Amaya is a young girl trying to earn her food and drink, along with a bed for the night. For a living she hunts at night, and at times is a simple mercenary. She's best at wielding her bow, and her marksmanship surpasses any of the guards from the castle. She hopes to one day find a place where she can live without the need to hunt everything she needs where she may simply relax. Amaya: The Night Arrow, A Night Hunter, The Daydreaming Hunter, The Young Mercenary. Any one of these could be her role, and/or her title.

xxxxE3: Yugri is a werewolf who just turned last month. He still is new to the whole concept, and the fact he turn into such a beast each full moon scares him. He has recently encountered a pack, and they have asked him to join them though he's unsure if he should. The pack often kills humans without really caring if they are weak or not, and he believes that his own meal should only be animals not humans. This suggests that he isn't one to eat or prey on humans, despite if he is pressured to do so otherwise. Yugri: The New Werewolf, A Kind Werewolf, The Unsure Newcomer to the Pack. Any one of these could be his role, and/or his title.

See what I mean? The title and role could be the same or they could be different. A simple way to form a title and/or role is to follow these too but you don't have to. SW1: A (Adjective) {Race} [Role] SW2: The (Adjective) [Role] SW3: The (Adjective) |Occupation| SW4: The {Race} [Role] SW5: A [Role] {Race}. SW6: The (Adjective) {Race} Those are some you could base your title or role off of if you so choose.

Deciding your Character's Race. This can be easy or difficult, but regardless you must decide upon a race. If you have chosen a role from the list I have provided, then a race may have already been set. (Like the Big Bad Wolf has to be a wolf or how if you chose to be a ghost from the Abandoned Village, you have to be a ghost) However, some roles I listed does not specify a race, and if it does not then that means that role may have whatever race. Your race has to suit the setting of the roleplay, so keep that in mind. If you're creating your own role, you may also choose whatever race you want.

Now it's not always easy to choose a race. You could choose a race you favor, or heard about simply from legends. Perhaps you could be something new that you have developed all on your own? Whether you are a beast, or a simple creature...you are welcome to be whatever you want to be. However, please keep in mind the "family rule" I mentioned earlier. If you wish to be a different race within a family, and a family member has already a different race you are to ask them if you can be the race you want to be. Simply read the rule once more to see what I mean.

Your Character's Skills/Abilities/Powers. This may depend on their race, and/or it may depend on their role. They may have been trained to preform a certain skill, gained a power or two from certain events, or they gained a certain ability all on their own. Skills are things one character is especially good at, while abilities are similar to powers but they're different. Powers is something your character can do and preform at will-power. Abilities can be preformed by will-power, but it needs more than that sometimes.

Like, your skill to make a fire may be excellent but to spawn or create fire would be an ability/power. Power would be where you spawn or create the fire to where you use your emotions/concentration to use your power to create the fire. Ability would be where you might have an ability to make the fire by will-power or you may use objects to aid you. Like, your power could be to spawn the fire through emotion/concentration, and your ability could be able to create the fire through magic or through knowledge passed down to you. Kinda like you have the ability to make the fire efficiently, or you have the ability to make the fire in such a way you use magic. Or, your skill to cook is very high, but your ability to sense what a person likes or dislikes is strong as well. You could use your powers to cook, or use your powers to help you cook. Does this make sense? More examples can be listed if requested.

Just consider what your character can do and can not do. What are they best at? This may go towards their role, or their occupation. Or, maybe their abilities/skills is a past hobby of theirs? Try to read other people's profiles to see what abilities or skills or powers they have chosen for their characters to better help you understand.

Magic and the power(s) behind it. In this roleplay, you have the option for your character to have magic or be involved with magic somehow. You may be cursed, or blessed. Or, perhaps born with mystical powers that can be difficult to control at times. It's up to you how your character is involved with magic, if he/she is in anyway. But, for the main part...a lot of people can use magic. Or, you can decide if they do.

For example, when creating your role you can have it to where part of your character's role is using magic. Or, when you chose a role from the list you can choose if that role involves magic if it is not specified. Examples are below for you to see what I mean.

xxxx E1: A villager boy was exploring an abandoned home when he came across a woman over a cauldron. She does not notice him, but he can see she's using magic to cast some sort of spell through potion making and incantations. It's up to you if your character, the villager boy, did next and what the woman did in response. He may have been caught, and cursed. Or, he may be her new apprentice.

xxxxE2: You have chosen the role of The Cursed Beast from the list I have provided. You know that he/she is cursed to be some sort of beast, and he/she can form illusions. It doesn't say if illusions are created through the beast's powers or abilities, and this implies that it is up to you how he/she forms illusions. Is it a power they use to where they form whatever illusions they wish, or is it limited. Is it from a magic potion they have to make and drink every so often, or perhaps they have to cast a spell upon themselves each full moon? Be creative in deciding how your character is their role, and what they do to maintain it.

As for Magic, there are many different forms of it. Spells that are cast through incantations, where you say certain words or phrases. Spells that are created through potions, and used in such a way where the potions affect others. Or, some spells may be drawn through magic circles or other marks that represent them. Magic users may prefer a wand or a staff, or perhaps another object to be the source of their power. Or, there are those where magic comes natural to them and they need only their mind to activate their powers. You may choose what kind of magic your character uses or was exposed to, so have fun and be creative with it.

Creating your Character's Personality. A character can be a lot of things for a lot of reasons. Or, they are just who they are naturally. They can be funny, or tell bad jokes, or just both! They can be cheerful, or sad. They can be hyper, or lazy. They can be smart, or wise. They can be silly, or creative, or both. They literally can be anything, and it's up to you why or and/how. You may prefer to use yourself as an example when creating a character, and don't be ashamed if you do. You may have your character be shy just as bad as you, or perhaps as smart as you. Maybe your character has a similar dream or fear, or just similar likes all the way to dislikes. Sometimes there are some roleplays you want to be in, so you create a character based upon yourself. For this roleplay, you may choose to base it off yourself or your creative idea about who she/he is. It's fine to create a whole new character different than yourself, but be sure to roleplay them as such.

Sometimes, a character's personality is based upon the character's past.

Creating your Character's Past. Someone's past makes a person, no matter how small an event may be..it still affects them! You decide your character's past based upon who they are and what they are. You can use their role for reference, or perhaps their personality. If you have a little trouble coming up with a background/past for your character, try to just summarize a little bit of their past then reveal more of the character's past for later.

Don't feel pressured to come up with an elaborate past, as some roleplayers choose simple pasts for good reason. There a few roleplayers who like to come up with a character's past on the way, which can be easy to do really. Just remember that when creating a character's past, you're recreating your character. A few examples are below to help you out.

xxxxE1: Elizabeth hates men. She despises every single one of them, but ironically loves her little brother. This began when their father left the family for another family, and it didn't help that many other men had betrayed her as well. Her best friend when she was young stole her favorite toy, and sold it! Even though she's the oldest in her home, she worries if her brother will betray her too. But, she loves him very much and does her best for him. She's conflicted how to treat her brother thanks to her past, but knows she loves him so in turn tries to be a good sister. As for other guys though, she doesn't trust them very easily and hardly at all.

xxxxE2: Tael grew up to only become a servant, and nothing more. He was born into this life thanks to a long past of serving the royal family, and when he was young wished otherwise. Now, as a grown adult he has accepted his role and treats it as his duty. His loyalty to the royal family may be because of his family's traditions or mutual respect. He may be a good servant, or one of the best ones yet. How he came to know the royal family can be revealed or a mystery.

xxxxE3: Amaya hunts during the night, with the moon as her sun. She kills her meals, or earns her money through different jobs. She is a mercenary at times, but not always. She's alone, and not much is know of her past. But, her skill with a bow is legendary. This past isn't much, but is enough to tell everyone what the character is about. Not much is revealed as to why she is alone, or how she became such a good archer. This helps the roleplayer decide the past at a more easier pace, and it is up to them to reveal her past within the roleplay.

Your Character's Plot, and Your Rp's Plot. You're at the point to where your character is done, but what will she/he do? What kind of place does the roleplay hold for them? These questions have the same answer.. the plot. Your character has their own plot within the roleplay, and the roleplay has its own plot to follow. There are many who go deep into the plot, or into their own. It's up to you which you want your character to pursue.

A Character's Plot is like their own path.. Where they grew up, and how. Where they live now, and where they want to live in the future. What they're up to now, and what they want to do in the future. All this comes together to create a character's plot. A Roleplay's Plot is more of a setting for your character. The Roleplay's Plot may differ, and may head to a total different direction than what you're going for. It depends in many different ways, and it varies just as well.

To create a plot topic for your character, click here. Be sure to read the topic regulations, and I actually recommend that everyone at least tries to do this to help them with their own character. Maybe read other character plot topics already there to see what I mean?

And that's about it~ Remember that you can use this same guide for npcs, just as well as your rpcs! If you want me to add anything else to this guide please pm me your requests. Don't forget to read the rules of this profile topic, too!

The Npc Guide For Players: Part 1

What is an npc? An npc is a non-player character. This is a character that doesn't actually have a player. Yes, someone is controlling them- but in reality, they're still one of those background characters. They can have a name, or be without one. They can have a past, or simply have a purpose. This guide will help one better understand an "npc", and explain how you can use them in rp.

Note: Experienced Players can skip this guide if they are already aware of npcs, and how they can affect rp. Though, they may read the guide to be inspired, or if they have any questions. If you do skip ahead, be sure to not skip the npc skelly later provided.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxThings to Consider....

xxxxWhy create the npc?

When creating an npc, you need to have a firm purpose as to why. Why are you creating this npc? Will you use the npc again in the future? Is it only a temporary Npc? Is it an npc that will be heavily involved with your character(s)? Or, will the npc later become one of your characters?

If your purpose to creating the npc is legit, then you will have no problem creating them. The only tough part is what to do afterwords, that's why the questions above are there. If you're only using the npc for one scene, then why even create them? Or, if you're using the npc for your character's background, then why rp them yourself?

xxxxHow shall the npc affect the rp?

This is when you decide how they shall affect the rp. They could be involved with the rp's plot, or your character's plot. It's up to you to decide! They could very well be a turning point for both, who knows? Only you know, or perhaps you just don't know yet.

If you're making the npc, and you're not sure how they will affect your character and/or the rp- read this next part closely. Does your npc know your character? How well? If they don't, then what do they have to do with your character? Or, if they aren't involved with your character, how should they be in the rp? Deciding how they'll affect the rp is a big part of an npc's role.

xxxxWhat will the npc... do?

This is up to you. You know why you created that npc, and you know how they'll affect the roleplay. Yet, now, you must decide what will they do. In what way will they execute their purpose? Will the npc immediately take action, or will you save that npc for later?

This goes into the majority of the roleplay behind the npc. How they interact with actual characters of the roleplay, and in which way will they do so. What they do is very sound. They're not entirely background characters, but they're still characters. They are individuals that can very well change the rp, or your character. What they will do must be though out, and well executed. You, as the strings behind the npc, must have the npc do what the npc will do just as they would would do it. -If you're unsure how to do this, read Part 2

xxxxWhen and/or will you have the npc leave?

After the npc has finished their purpose, will they leave? Or when will they leave? This is up to you, the player. Even though they are just an npc, their fate is still up to you. Will you kill them off, or simply let them disappear? Or you finished with them entirely, or will you use them again later? All of this goes into what happens next once the npc has finished what you created them for. Perhaps they're not quite done, or you're just done with them.

However, that doesn't mean they have to "disappear". If you're completely done with them, that doesn't mean they have to die, either. As the Guild Captain, I've had to make a lot of npcs so that the roleplay could go on. In fact, I'll have to continue making npcs when they're needed in either the rp, or for my character's rp. When I'm "finished" with them, I'll put them up for adoption.

In fact, under Part 2 there is a list of npcs that has been put up full of npcs up for adoption. All of these npcs can be reused as npcs, and/or characters. There is nothing wrong with your character being a recreated npc. Or, perhaps the one who created the npc wants someone to rp their npc for them. It'll be specified in the list.

The Npc Guide For Players: Part 2

Just like before on Part 2 for "Creating your Character", I'm going to point out that when you create your npc to please use the npc skelly provided. That skelly will be later on in this post. For those who don't know, "skelly" is a common rp term used for when you use a basic character info guide kinda like their "skeleton". Skeletons (or Skellys) differ from roleplay to roleplay, so be sure to not miss any fine print. Some roleplays require you to put a smiley in the skelly to ensure you have read the rules, or perhaps they'll ask you to title the post/pm with a certain name as well.

Creating your npc. After you read Part 1, I'm sure you have a basic idea on how you should go about creating your npc. But, hey you don't have to follow each of those steps in the proper order. You can decide what the npc will do before you decide on why the npc exists. This whole process is up to you.

When creating your npc, decide on what they'll be. What kind of race they'll be, or what gender best suits them best. Or, maybe you'd prefer they just be some random person? Not all npcs are really well thought out, and you may even not make a skelly for them. You do not have to have a skelly for each of your npcs..

Deciding their role within the roleplay. We covered this in the first part where we discussed how they should affect the roleplay. But, this goes deeper into that. If you have any further questions about this specially ask for help in the OOC Topic for this roleplay.

What role does your npc play? Are they just a background character, or are they the background characters that matter? They may be against your character, or they'll want to help your character, or perhaps just a passerby. The npc could just one of those type of people that is heavily involved with your character, and/or someone else's character. Who knows, maybe one day you'll decide to make that npc a character. Or, you plan to? This all goes into deciding their role within the roleplay. And, speaking of roles, you can not use one of the roles from the list as an npc. That list is roles that need to be played by players as characters, not as npcs. This is one of the rules, too.

This is actually a dimension where you can place your character if you want him/her to physically die. But, this dimension perseves their bodies to where they never decay...and each being has their own "home" within the dimension. Their "home" is different depending on the individual, and varies just as well. More on this within the plot of the roleplay

-- If you killed off a character, but want the character back...another character has to go physically there and back to bring that dead character back. Which..is very tricky... ninja
