This is a RP between Charon, Morsmordre, Johanna Mason, Peeta Mellark and Vortigern de Morte.

"Oh, sure, we're old friends. Peeta and I had adjoining cells in the capitol. We're very familiar with each other's screams" -- Johanna Mason in Mockingjay

Morsmordre dragged Johanna Mason's prone form into the "cell". It was a hallowed out cave with several smaller cubby-hole caves. For now, she threw Johanna into the room with Peeta Mellark. She could see the scratches and abrasions on Johanna from her time in the arena, and from her uncareful dragging here but she didn't care--after all, they'd be experiencing much much worse very soon.
They had disobeyed her employers (not that she cared) and was being paid (the only reason she cared) to punish them for their transgressions. They called themselves "The Capitol". Some stupid notion of Panem and Capitol right on the edge of the Kawani--she didn't really understand it all or care to.
It did pay well though.
She nodded her head at her Ulun'suti partner, who put up a forcefield across the front of the cage--that would keep them from escaping. It would keep them there until she was ready to make them scream..
The thought brought a malicious smile to Morsmordre's lips as she left for a while.

What the--
Her head gave a painful pulse as she laid there. The ground felt cool, and rocky instead of the beach-like area they'd been in before. Johanna kept her breathing as normal as she could until she could figure out where she was. No use in giving away her only advantage.
Her ears detected the sound of another not far away, but only one. Was she and--whoever the only ones left alive? Surely, they'd gotten out Katniss freaking Everdeen?
The memories surged to her so far fast it was almost excruciating--a winged soquilli lifting Katniss' limp body through the arena after the force field broke. So they'd left her behind--great. As-
She heard the other body stirring near her, and she opened up her eyes to see--Peeta freaking Mellark. God, they'd left her with lover boy.
Could this day get any worse?
She pushed herself up, and steadied herself shaking off the dizziness like she shook off everything else in her life. "Hey!" She winced at her own words, "Guess you're not that important are you lover boy? They left you with me."

Katniss... Her name caused a slow aching pain to latch upon his heart. Was she dead? Deep within himself, he was at war; unsure if he should believe the sight his eyes saw, when his love’s body, unmoving body, was lifted into the sky by a winged stallion who appeared to work for the “Capitol” or listen to his heart, which, with every beat held the belief that Katniss Everdeen was alive.
He was still locked within his inner struggle when the sensation of being dragged drew him out of his dreadful musings. Carefully he opened one blue eye and then the other; a strange stallion was pulling him down a rocky hallway toward a dank stony cell that reeked of fear. Somehow he must have drawn the guard’s attention to him, some slight movement, a twitch of a limb, for piercing red eyes locked upon Peeta Mellark’s cool blue ones. There was no longer the pretense to pretend to be deadweight, and the strong need to know filled his being; with a high voice that was filled with unexpressed hope, the star crossed lover of district 12 asked his stoic guard a question that contained only a single word, “Katniss?”
The Capitol guard never blinked, his words were guttural, sounding more canine than equestrian, a grotesque smile revealing blackened teeth, “Free, while you rot in a cell. Where is that love you two supposedly share?” He laughs and as a second thought, kicked Peeta on his way out of the dreary box of a cell. Melding into the shadows, the guard vanished down the unlit corridor. A smile appeared on the blond stallion’s countenance, Katniss is alive… and then his world went black.
The presence of another drew him out of the black abyss; his eyes adjusted to the low light and took notice of a mare with a short mane, she was attempting to stand on all fours, her face set in stern lines. Recognition shot through the stallion, followed by dread… “Johanna.”
His look was sad as he stared at his new cell mate, how many of the others were captured as well? Beetee, Finnick? Were they to meet the same fate as Johanna and him? Or were they saved as well when Katniss was rescued?
Johanna’s words sent a pang to his heart, but was that not the point of his volunteering to take Haymitch’s place, to keep Katniss safe at all costs? Slowly he stood, expecting the pain to return from the kick he received from his indifferent warden; he only winces slightly, nothing was broken, but there will be a bruise. Now able to stand without having the room sway, he turned his gaze to Johanna and gave her a wry smile, “So it appears, but wasn’t that always the case?” Katniss was safe, and that is all that mattered.

So self sacrificing...didn't he realize that that left you dead? Johanna raised her eyebrow skeptically, "And you're just okay with that?" She wasn't, oh definately not. She'd been given a mission--protect that clueless girl with her life. She wasn't crazy about it...but if it was the only way to make Snow pay for what he'd done to her family, then she'd do it. Vengeance was the only thing she had left to live for right now.
She huffed loudly, "Looks like her and the others got out..." But then, Peeta didn't know what out was did he? He'd never been clued in like she had. Johanna had been working on this for years--with full knowledge that there was a District 13 which the natives of it called "Kawani".
He was taking it pretty well to be completely in the dark, and for a moment she almost felt sorry for him. "They're in District 13, it's real," her voice was low and urgent. "The Rebels have her, only they call their home the Kawani. We're on the edge of it now or something..."
She'd said too much, surely someone was listening and the less he knew the better. Johanna had been in the Capitol for a long time...she knew what kind of things they did to you if they wanted answers.

Was he okay with being trapped while Katniss was free? That he did not seem to be as important as her? “Yes. I knew going into this last Game that there would only be one survivor, since they are unlikely to do a repeat of what happened last year. I knew that I did not have a chance, but what little chance I did have, I wanted to use that to help Katniss live.”
Peeta nodded, he did not want to dwell on the negative possibility that they could be locked up as well in the labyrinth of cells beneath the “Capitol”. Would it be better to wish them dead, buried beneath the earth, dead to the world and no longer slaves to the Capitol’s sick twisted Games or have them be like Johanna and him, locked away, unsure of what their fate holds?
Blue eyes opened wide, District 13? Was it not a barren nuclear wasteland? He stared at her when she stopped talking, he knew she acquired more information about why Katniss was important than him, but it would be unwise to utter more about the subject here, where anyone could be listening for a juicy tidbit of information regarding Katniss Everdeen and the Rebels of District 13.
A thought occurred to the stallion as he stood in silence, looking at the bleak walls of his prison: If Johanna knew that 13 was still an active and alive District, that means Snow possess the same information. Was Katniss truly safe with those rebels; he fervently hoped that they kept her safe and sound.

Johanna couldn't help but laugh coarsely, "Don't worry, they'll make sure their precious little Mockingjay doesn't fly away." She tossed her bangs out of her face as she gingerly tested her muscles. She could feel a few gashes, and bruises. She felt filthy and dirty, and she felt like she hadn't eaten or drank in days.
How long exactly had she been out?
She wobbled on her feet. Who else did they have here? She remembered the blood rain, the zinging sound as Blight ran into the barrier...The coarse sound of nothing when she pressed her head to his chest. He was gone.
Didn't matter. He'd known what he was getting into, just like she did. This was it. This was it...what they had spent years planning.

Peeta cast a worried gaze to Johanna, the way she phrased the statement made him suspect that Katniss had gone from one captive to another; he shook his head, she was free and safe. Safe. His blue eyes looked at the force field locking them within the bleary cell; his cell companion and he seemed to be just as dirty as the cell, a few days more without cleaning they would be able to blend into their prison’s walls. For some odd reason he found the idea amusing and let out a snort.
Feeling stiff, the stallion began a slow pacing around the cell, avoiding bumping Johanna who appeared to be testing and stretching her muscles as well. When he reached the opening of the cell he stopped and stared at the blurry field, it seemed to ripple like water, but water mixed with an electric shock. He gave a slight wince as he remembered his encounter with the force field in the area, if it had not been for the quick thinking of Finnick he would be dead.

Johanna's mind was whirring as she stretched. "You know how long we've been out lover boy?" She gave him a sneer as she shook the dirt out of her short hair.
In a way she felt sorry for him. He looked so lost without her that it was almost heart-breaking--that is if she still had a heart left to break. What must it be like to still have someone you loved out there and maybe being able to be used against you?
Pretty soon, Snow would want answers to questions he didn't even know. She wasn't sure if it was going to be easier or hardier on him not knowing anything. For a moment, she hesitated before speaking--"You know, I'm sorry you're here. And I'm sorry for what's going to happen to you now."

He considered her words trying to figure out the length of time locked away under the possession of the twisted group known as the Capitol; his stomach was empty, but that was not a surprise or anything new considering his diet during the Games. Peeta Mellark shrugged his muscular shoulders, in the cell’s darkness it was hard to tell the passage of time and he was sure their captors would not feel entitled to share that little piece of information. “A day, two at the most, I’m guessing.”
During his time assessing the contents of his stomach and judging the duration of their captivity, his blue eyes were still locked upon the deadly field keeping them within the prison. He turned his gaze from the rippling current of energy and his eyes go blank as his imagination runs rampant and questions he could not fathom the answers to, surged to the front of his thoughts: What was going to happen? Were they ever going to become free of the Capitol? Would he ever be able to see Katniss again? See her smile?
Peeta gave Johanna a wary look; she was not new to the Capitol’s monstrosity. He swallowed, “Do you know what I am to expect?” He knew that he could never fully prepare for the torture that awaited him, but he could sure try.

Johanna stretched her neck around in consideration before answering him. She'd seen the look he'd given, she knew he was scared and trying hard not to show it. She knew that without a doubt, he was already planning on keeping track of the days---not the days of captivity but rather the days without her.
She almost wanted to roll her eyes.
"Yeah, some of it. Think of the worst thing they can do to you. When you've got it in your mind, hold onto it for a few seconds. Feel the terror, the pain...the anguish. Now make it ten times that, and that's what we're going to go through." She didn't pause or stop to give him pity, "You threw your lot in with her. Your family is probably gone. Anyone else you cared for or loved. Any anchor holding you down has been severed except her, and they're going to try...But they can't break what they don't have. If you don't let go. They can't break you. Do you understand?" She wanted him to realize how important it was.
"She's the only thing keeping you from being like me," she smiled wickedly. "Don't wanna be like me now do you?"

How much had he done to anger the Capitol? At first he did not know that his actions where causing those in charge to grit their teeth and plot the downfall to Katniss and himself, he believed that Katniss actually loved him during the first Games when they were pathetic pawns. When he discovered she was just using him for the Game, the hurt went deep, but even if it was an act to her, he truly loved Katniss, the girl on fire. When he discovered that they were to be put into the 75th Games as well, Peeta knew that he had to do everything in his power to keep Katniss alive, even if it meant sacrificing himself. Those who watched the bloody games thought Katniss was pregnant with a child, a small white lie Peeta told to further bring the audience to the side of “Star Crossed Lovers of District Twelve”. It seemed to work to some extent; Katniss was alive and free, while he was here in a dank cell smelling of mold and other things the stallion did not wish to place a name to.
He nodded his head, he had expected as much, it did not reduce the fluttering nervousness of his heart to know that his worst nightmares would be coming true at the cruel hooves of the Capitol, but it did bring a sense of clarity. This was what he wanted, in a twisted roundabout way. Instead of death, he would be tortured until he wished for death and knew that it would not be granted to him as another form of torture. Her next words shocked him, all this time he had been thinking of Katniss, how could he forget about his family and those in District 12? A sick feeling welled up inside him and he limped away from the force field, the metal on his left leg protesting to the damp. His leg was severely broken during the first games, and in order to maintain movement and the function of that leg, the Capitol gave him the metal brace, since many of the bones were not able regain their past strength.
Peeta looked Johanna, “I understand, they can never break my bond that I have with Katniss, which means they will never break me as well.” He did not know then how much his words would be tested in the next couple of months or how much they would turn out to be false. The Capitol had forms of torture that he was not even able to fathom and that would be the start to his downfall.
“No, I don’t want to be like you,” he said with a hint of sadness in his voice. She was alone, her loved ones victims of the Capitol, it was not a life he would wish upon anyone, even his own enemies.

Johanna watched his nervous actions, the paling of his face with the realization of what was to come. Her eyes darted away from his, giving him this moment to himself. "Yes, one of me is enough," she utters bitterly.
Her thoughts drift to Sven and Greta, to Liam dead in game's before. Each lose having been harder than the last, each lose leaving her more alone. Her grandmother at least she had expected to lose. Ivan had left her willingly...but...Snow had still killed him to punish her for her disobedience. In her anger, she had reacted--had fallen so far and the last thing she had to hold on to--the foal of Ivan's growing in her womb died from the fall.
She hadn't wanted to live until she remembered there was still something she could do with her life--she could kill Snow. She could make him pay for everything he took from her. The Rebellion had been the answer to that, along with the girl.
She didn't even know what she was doing--she was stupid, childish even but she had sparked the Rebellion in the districts and had given them the fuel to the fire. Katniss freaking Everdeen had made this possible.
She couldn't help the words to slip from her mouth, "How could you love her?" The girl was broken, coarse on her way to being just like her. How could Peeta love her when he was nothing like the rest of them?

For years Katniss had been the mare of his heart; he had loved her since that day when he heard her sing and the birds even stopped to listen to her sweet voice. He was just as infatuated as his father had been with her mother. Even though they rarely talked or interacted, his heart only had room for Katniss, the brave mare. Peeta still berates himself over that day, the rainy day when he tossed Katniss the bread; he should have gone to her and done something, said something, but instead he stood there and just stared at the one he loved through the torrent of rain.
He has loved her for years, but why did he love her? What made Katniss Everdeen different from the other mares of District 12? He knew the answer, for it came readily to mind, but for once the smooth talking, quick thinking Peeta Mellark had trouble transferring his feelings into words. “How can I not? Since I was a foal Katniss has possessed my heart. She is brave, but also kind. She appears not to care, when actually there are many she cares about and will do anything to protect. When she sings, even the birds stop to listen. I know she was playing the Game last time, and our Star Crossed Lovers from District Twelve was an act to her, but I really do believe she cares for me, for if she didn’t, why go through all that trouble?”
His blue eyes stared at Johanna, hoping he was able to portray his emotions properly, she most likely believed him to be a fool to be in love with a mare who used him in the last games and played upon his heart. Who would not believe him to be a fool? But then again, how can he not love the fierce but gentle Katniss Everdeen?

Johanna stared him down, taking in each and every word that he spoke. She knew about that kind of love. She had loved Ivan like that, and then in the end he couldn't stay--he couldn't make it work. But Snow had had him killed still, and in her rage at Snow as she tried to lash out at him she had fallen--losing the only thing left of Ivan.
She knew the power of love, and the pain of it. She didn't like Katniss that much, and maybe it was because she reminded her too much of herself--hardened on the outside and still so vulnerable underneath. That girl's shell would harden just like hers had.
"I understand Peeta," she said it softly possibly kindly. "Love makes fools and liars of us all." She paused for a moment, "I've seen the way she looks at you Peeta. Maybe the only one she's lying to is herself?"
