The bridge between being a child and becoming an adult is a somewhat confusing and painful transfer. You think you're old enough to make decisions for yourself and you know it all, then it turns out you're the most ignorant of all... Pauline is lonely. The House of Dumont is an isolated place in a nothing but flat landscape made out of fields. The few kids around her age that visit are stuck up royal citizens who complain all day, and the grown ups shun her. Helena and Sophie are horrible company; they're much to old for the late bloomer and treat her like toddler, constantly nagging her and commenting on the things she does. Pauline's dull life takes a turn when Carolas Morel, a handsome stranger with long hair and strange habits, moves inn next door. Finally, somebody who takes to her as an equal, and sometimes like she's a princess, which Pauline absolutely adores. Carolas is interesting, passionate, intelligent, humorous and friendly, perhaps too friendly. As Pauline and Carolas become closer and closer, Helena and Sophie grow worried for their younger sister. After a ball at the House of Dumont where Carolas offers Pauline a little bit more champagne than she can handle, the older sisters forbid Pauline to see him and demand that the man moves away from their area. Utterly confused why her friend is being treated this poorly, Pauline becomes furious and decides to see Carolas one last time, which turns out to be a huge mistake. Her new friend attempts to lure her away from her sisters, insisting that Helena and Sophie are sickly jealous of her and desire nothing more than to make her miserable, Pauline's engagement to Byron being the perfect proof of their disgusting nature. Pauline rejecting his lies, Carolas becomes furious and frustrated, revealing by accident what he truly is; a witch. Further he tells his real purpose for his visit; to consume the child of an "innocent" to prolong his life and gain greater power. But in order to do so, the "innocent" must be impregnated with evil, and he's not about to let a skinny runt ruin Pauline and his chances at becoming more powerful than ever. He was planning to do the job himself, only needing the girl till the child was born before he would leave her (unharmed he points out). Carolas now demands Pauline's submission, or he'll take her with him by force. "OH BALLS NO THAT AIN'T HAPPENING!". Somehow, by wild chance, Pauline is able to escape, but is fully aware that it's only temporarily. Confinding in the local priest, Pauline is given the clue to possibly her only hope; the Vatican's special witch-hunter, Angelo. Now... how does a 13 year old girl, who can't return home by the way, get to Italy on her own, without money, luggage, help or getting caught by the crazed man-eating witch? Will Angelo even help her out? Is there an Angelo in the first place? Content:

General information Setting - A strange world mix between the late 1700's and 1800's, where technology is rapidly coming together and magic being a feared, evil fact. The Vatican is the world police, keeping witches, demons and other creatures away from the public as best as they can. Society is heavily influenced by the social ranks, and if you've hit rock bottom you have no chance of getting up. Women aren't expected to have any form of education besides reading, art and music among the upper class. Math, biology and especially anatomy and medicine is reserved for the men. House of Dumont - Originally beginning as a family of traders, the Dumonts are now among the highest ranking families of France outside of the royal house and its branches. No longer 'working', the Dumonts continue to prosper though marriages and financial agreements. The current highest ranking in the family is the oldest son, Lucas, holding the title of an Earl, with Pauline in second being engaged to Byron, Duke Archard's son. The family remains scandal free, with the exception of Helena's blind eye. Witches - Human beings who involve themselves with dark magic and the demons who roam in the dark. The majority of witches rarely cause any harm. Most practice healing and protection spells, simply trying to get by and help others. The few exceptions are those who desire power, ultimately hurting everyone in their paths for their own selfish reasons. Male witches are seen as the biggest issue, the women drawing less attention to themselves or comiting minor crimes. Why this is is a mystery. All witches appear to have three forms; a human, half human and an animal, often described as "the familiar" and true appearance. Most witches choose a common animal form such as a cat, rat, bird or dog to avoid suspicion, tigers, wolves or dragons being extremely inconvenient when escaping. Some witches have teamed up with the Vatican, working under strict conditions, but allowed their practices if used for their advantages. The most common way to get rid of a witch is to stab their heart, remove their head and burn the remains to avoid them returning. Witches may strengthen their abilities by practicing or doing certain rituals. Demons - Demons are the spawn and creations of the devil (according to the Vatican, so one can't be 100% certain if this is true), who's purpose is to create chaos. Demons are all seen as evil, their kin including vampires, werewolves, monsters and others. Some witches who have gone too far in their search for power eventually end up here, Carolas being awfully close to stepping over the line. Demons are put into two different categories; physical and non physical, and their powers vary depending on their nature.

"It's not that awful to be small; you can fit into small spaces, people always think you're cute, you get away with things much easier, you have all the time in the world and there's always somebody around willing to help you. The bad thing is that people never think you'll outgrow it or take anything you do seriously. For every step they take, I have to take two. It's hard to keep up sometimes..." Basic:Pauline Dumont, 13 years old, born July 7th in the House of Dumont. French heritage, grew up with her four siblings (Lucas, Louis, Helena and Sophie), mother and father (Jolie, Thomas). Currently engaged to a 17 year old boy named Byron. General and personality:At first glance Pauline might appear to be a bit meek. She doesn't make much of herself, preferring to sit in the corner and observing the world around her, but once you get her mouth running... oh dear goodness; nothing can stop her. Very careful by nature, Pauline often apologizes for no reason, quick to feel guilty if she doesn't. She spends the majority of her time daydreaming and discussing ideas with the servants, as the rest of the house seems to have no interest in her whimsical imagination and out-of-the-box thinking. Pauline is quick to get lonely, and feels often out of place if she's not allowed to hang around the skirts of the ladies, despite often being overrun by them. Having lived such a sheltered and protected life, Pauline has never had to question anyone's intentions, leaving her remarkably naive, if not plain gullible. Not to say that she's stupid, far from it. Pauline is a very smart young girl. She's quick to pic up patterns and information, and got a huge talent for understanding language, but no one has ever really lied or tricked her before, and therefor Pauline always got her guard down, constantly thinking the best of people. Pauline do occasionally have her bad outbursts, storming off in anger when ignored, screaming out of frustration when she can't do things right or weeping out of embarrassment when pushed on a touchy subject. Oddly enough, Pauline is quick to criticize others, especially when it comes to manners. Pauline is raised in a high class home, and honestly believed that everyone was raised the same way until recently. Demanding to be treated with respect is her way of keeping sane after leaving for Rome. After Carolas exposed himself and the chase began, Pauline has slowly began to toughen up, slowly moving away from her childish personality and becoming an independent grownup lady. She's far away from being a proper heroine, but what else could you expect? The subject of Byron is a difficult one for Pauline. The engagement was set up by her parents, and is for the most part for the image of the family. The two get along amazingly well, having a similar personality, but Pauline has a hard time accepting that she'll have to marry somebody she considers a brother. Poor Pauline is a hopeless romantic, but it's better than Louis who married a total stranger. Because of the engagement, Pauline has never had to consider what she would do with her life or future, and she often draws a complete blank when you ask her. "That's just how it is...". Other random facts:- Pauline can't swim, even if her life depended on it. - It's a very big secret, but Pauline absolutely adores creatures such as snails and spiders, and is not afraid to handle them. She has a huge collection of them in the basement, much to everyone's dismay. - Pauline has a bad habit of walking around half naked. Clothing are for adults silly! emotion_awesome - Every once in a while, Pauline becomes a hermit and completely shuts herself away from the rest of the world, together with a bunch of books or collections. People have several times had to physically lift the little girl up and carry her out to get food and water because she becomes so busy. Appearance:Quite short, fair skinned, and blue eyed. Round face, upturned, ski-jump nose, full, tiny lips, childish frame and pale brown hair in a curly updo. Often dressed in a chemise dress, and refuses to wear corsets. Visuals:Woop

Basic:
Carolas Morel, unknow age, appears to be in his mid twenties, unknown birthplace and birthday, as well as background. Witch.
General and personality:
Carolas is exactly who you want him or need him to be. He's humorous when your life is dull, he is charming when you need attention, he's passionate when you're feeling down, and he's nothing but a big, fat, lying actor. The reality? He's just doing what he has to in order to get his way. Carolas goal in life is to become the most powerful witch of all time, and he'll stop at nothing to gain what he desires. He truly believes himself to be above everyone else and that his rightful place is on top of the food chain. He carries much disdain for the royal house and families with riches, though why is unknown. It's suspected Carolas used to work for the church, as he always carries with him a strange silver cross and rosaries, but this is speculation. Despite often demanding instant satisfaction for everything he does, Carolas is also got a lot of patience, willing to wait until the right moment where others would have given up a long time ago. Carolas speech is heavily influenced by poetic expressions, even when he smites and curses. Personally, Carolas isn't one to laugh in his spare time. He does smile an awful lot, though mostly insincerely.
Carolas witch form is that of a raven, which allows him to spy and sneak around exactly as he pleases pretty much everywhere. He specializes in physical magic such as fire control, simply because he likes the rush of it compared to curses and healing. Needless to say he tends to cause a lot of destruction when he's throwing a tantrum.
Other random facts:
- Carolas feels very uncomfortable walking around half naked. -
