PostPosted: Fri Jul 06, 2012 1:19 pm

Taking a deep breath, Lucette Gagnon strode into the school cafeteria, holding her bagged lunch and school books to her side, trying to let out an aura of cool and calm. This school was much bigger than she could've ever imagined, with so many people she could ever care to see in her life. Since it was her first day of high school, in the United States no less, she was dressed her best, wearing her nicest pair of pink flats, her favorite floral printed skirt, and a light pink button up shirt. Her hair was up in her usual bun, accented with one her many floral barrettes.

And the way it looked right now, there was nowhere for Lucette to sit! Everyone knew each other, and of course blatantly ignored her when she asked if she could sit with them. She probably looked like an idiot, just standing in the middle of the cafeteria, aimlessly looking around. She sighed, this school was way too big for her. Who decided that this school should harbor this many students?! Couldn't they have split it up into smaller portions all along the city? Perhaps the smarter question to ask was why Lucette had enrolled into this school in the first place. Of all the schools...well her father Arthur said it was one of the best schools in the country...but still.

She let out a small sigh, and approached another table, in hopes that maybe this time they would let her sit. She approached the girls, who were all similarly in dressed in polos of various bright colors. Lucette put on her best smile, hoping her heavy accent wouldn't put them off, "H-hello...My name is Lucette...I was wondering if I may sit here with you?" The girls stared at Lucette, their smiles faltering slightly, when one of them started laughing aloud, and the others joined in. "D-did you...hear the way...she speaks?!" one of the girls said inbetween laughter, "Who speaks like that?!"

Lucette immediately frowned, staring at them with distaste, "At least I am not dressing like a...a highlighter marker." and with that (rather bad) comeback, she turned on her heel and walked off, muttering various profanities in French. "Stupide filles laides. Pah!" The nerve of some people.

Wyatt McKenzie had his nose deep in a textbook since lunch started. He was seated at a table that was a collection of mostly random students that generally kept to themselves. A notebook was open next to the book, one hand holding a pencil as he took notes, the other holding a ham sandwich he was tearing through from his brown bagged lunch.

When it came to academics, his grades weren't the worst but they weren't the best either. The options for languages hadn't been very large and, despite his pop's insistence of him taking Spanish, Wyatt decided to go with French at the behest of his mother. She assured him, while Spanish may have been more practical, French would look better on college applications. As it stood, there wasn't much he could do to fight with that logic and his father threw his hands up at the whole argument after that. Of course, like most things, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Aside from certain words sounding similar to English ones, he was completely stumped on grammar and... well, most everything.

Pronunciations were especially a handful. "Ooh sawnt lay toilettes...? Ugh, no..." Huffing, he looked up from his book to see a pretty brunette shuffling away from a table of giggling girls, annoyance and embarrassment clearly written on her face. He had been going to this school for a few years now and he knew most everyone save for the freshmans. Only thing was, she didn't look like a freshman.

Furrowing his brows, Wyatt glanced to the side. Not much of the table was filled, just an occasional student minding their own business. Tapping the eraser of his pencil against his notebook quickly, he weighed the options then set both pencil and sandwich down. He pushed up from the table and hurried in the girl's direction. He didn't hear her profanities, much less her accent as he jogged up and slowed beside her.

"Hey. S'cuse me. You having trouble finding a seat?" He hoped she wasn't going to think this was a crappy pick up line or something, she was pretty so that didn't help matters, but it was worth it to try and extend some honest courtesy.

At this point Lucette was half-tempted to eat in the hallway because she was really hungry, but then again she'd probably be ridiculed for that as well. She continued to grumble to herself, knowing she would have to have a long talk with her parents tonight because they had told her that the Americans loved the French, but clearly this wasn't so. She didn't notice the tall boy approaching her, nearly bumping into him and almost dropping her books onto his feet.

"E-er...sorry.", she mumbled, staring at who it was that even bothered to talk to her (politely, no less). He was very tall and looked much older than her (though she was fourteen, almost everyone in this school would be older). His piercings and highlighted bangs interested Lucette, since she had never seen a boy with so many earrings and pieces of colored hair. She recalled Pons telling her about American boys with piercings and how they were bad news, but this guy didn't really look like that. And besides; she was in the middle of a cafeteria filled with people, he would be very daft to try something here. "I am afraid I was not hearing what you said? I was more thinking than listening..." she smiled at him, hoping that he wouldn't be weirded out by her leaving her alone again. She had to admit though, he was kind of cute; though it was probably because he was an American boy. They always looked more handsome than French boys.

At their slight bump, Wyatt was given a bit of a start. He rested a hand on her shoulder to steady her but quickly removed it so she wouldn't get the wrong idea. She looked him up and down, seeming particularly enthralled with his hair, and unconsciously he reached a hand up to run through his hair. Then she apologized and he couldn't help but smile. Her accent was obvious but easy enough to understand. Since he hadn't been privy to the conversation, merely the aftermath, he couldn't even imagine that was what the girls were laughing at.

"It's okay. I asked if you needed help finding a seat," without sparing the offending girls a glance, he nodded his head in the direction of their table to indicate he knew about the current situation. Directing her glance at the table he had just left with his thumb, other hand nestled comfortably in his pocket, he offered her a friendly grin. "I guess it's not really any of my business, but my table's kinda empty. Are you a freshman?" Back in middle school, he had that problem too. Friends changed a lot from elementary, drifted apart, moved away, switched schools entirely, or were replaced with others. He had to almost make an entire new group of friends at that point. Maybe she was in the same boat.

Lucette was going to make a move to brush his hand off her shoulder, but was glad that he removed it before she had to brush it off. She turned slightly pink, thinking of the slight contact but cleared her throat, "Oh yes! That would be very nice. It would be bad to be eating lunch standing..." she readjusted her books, not understanding why American books were so heavy. Was that why some American boys had arms the size of the Eiffel Tower? She hoped that she wouldn't get arms that big, that would be just awful.

"Yes. I am a freshman...though I am curious as to why I am called a freshman? Should it not be 'freshwoman'? Or something else different?", maybe he would know the reason why students were called that way, maybe it was a pattern in the name of the grade rank. "Where are you sitting though? I will follow you, since we are standing in the middle. We may be blocking someone. she smiled at him. He was extremely nice, it was really just Mama being overly protective and paranoid as usual. She would have to ask Papa after school for confirmation, since he was the only one that had grown up in the United States.

"Oh, before I am forgetting, my name is Lucette. Gagnon. Lucette Gagnon." Lucette balanced her lunch on top of her books, trying to hold out a hand for the boy to shake. "And what is your name?" she asked, realizing that would be the only grammatically correct sentence she had probably said all day.

Her comment took a second to sink in before Wyatt let out a short laugh in agreement. The more she spoke, the more obvious it became that she really was foreign and not just raised in a heavily accented family or maybe faking it to be more unique.

"Oh, uh... that's just what they're called. I don't really know why. Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors. I'm a Junior. I guess it'd be more fair if they changed it for either gender, though," shrugging, he turned and gestured with his hand toward the table, his own books and lunch still sitting untouched while the opposite corner of table was occupied by roughly four people who also had their books out. "S'just over here," he announced, leading her over.

When he crossed over to the other side of the table to settle back into his place, she held her hand out and he was once more caught off guard but quickly offered up his own. Compared to her small, fair hands, his own were large and strong, but his shake was gentle and he didn't allow his hand to linger too long. He couldn't help but notice how soft her skin was, but he supposed most girls were soft -- even softer when you hadn't touched any in a while.

Taking his seat, the first thing he did was pick up his sandwich from atop the paper bag he placed it on so it wouldn't touch the table directly or deposit crumbs on any of his books and papers. "Wyatt McKenzie," he smiled before taking a bite. "Now, this might sound stupid," he started, not quite finished chewing but he was sure not to flash any of his food while speaking (girls usually found that gross, didn't they?), "But I just wanna make sure before I say something and look even stupider. You're French, right?"

"Perhaps we can be talking to the school about it. It is a good chance, I think.", Lucette smiled, following after him. There were only four other people, both Wyatt and herself excluded, but that wasn't so bad. That would mean there was more space for everyone. "Are they your friends?" she asked, knowing the answer was probably 'no', but it didn't hurt to ask and try and make more friends.

She was quite taken aback by the feel of his hands, having never felt such rough hands before; Mama had the softest hands, and Papa's were slightly calloused but not to this extent. Was it something that all American boys had? But then again, her Papa was pretty American but his weren't this rough. Papa was an American man though, maybe that was the difference! She had to admit that it was quite....attractive? Was the that right word for it?

Lucette placed her books and lunch down and sat down next to Wyatt, smoothing out her skirt as she did so. "'Why-ate?' I am afraid I am not pronouncing it correctly." Lucette frowned as she opened up her lunch bag (it was quite ugly...a paper brown bag?!), taking out her water bottle and her cucumber sandwich. The brunette giggled, hearing Wyatt's question (and speaking with his mouth full! What a cute American thing to do!), "Non! Je suis Parisian!", she replied playfully. Glancing at this textbook, she saw some familiar words and phrases, as well as a small drawing of the Eiffel Tower. "Je vois que vous apprendre le français?"
