The sun was faint in the sky. Not because it was very late, but rather because dawn was just now breaking. Logan was bundled up in far more layers than any one boy should ever require, mostly because he couldn't stand the thought of being damp and cold this morning. He had to set out early because most of the day he'd be doing errands for his father, working and saving up coins. That was how his father had raised him, after all; working since he was able to run, and he did run, quite quickly. It made his son an efficient errands boy, not to mention few people ever thought to stop an infant in the street, which made it even easier on the kid. Logan was stealthy and hated being confronted.

This particular morning, Logan had invited Bigsby along to help him ... well, illegally enter several abandoned buildings and choose one for his purposes later on. Until Logan could purchase it formally, he'd be fixing it up on the sly. Clubs had plenty of shops that had gone under and been slowly replaced or built around, so Logan was out to find one of those.

Ever since he had spied that tattoo parlour one day, Logan desperately wanted to own his own. And he knew he'd be up to the challenge. He was made to handle inks; Briar had been the one to raise him for a reason, Logan was certain. Some pattern or design that the boy himself was not yet privy to.

Logan flicked his tail back and forth anxiously as he waited for Bigsby to arrive. He was eager to get going. He held a slightly crushed map in one hand, where certain buildings had been circled in marker over the laminated surface. The map was another of Logan's own creations.

Bigsby's heels clicked along the sidewalk as he walked a merry gait down an empty street. The whole world was painted a gloriously warm rainbow of colors, dawn in all of its finery to contrast with the cold of the morning. Bigsby's breath puffed forth, forming tiny spheres of mist that held Bigsby's attention far more than the colors of early morning ever could, the golds and reds and purples lost on him as he struggled to form a ring, instead of a vaguely spherical shape. He'd seen a man do it with a cigar once, at a party, and now he wished he could figure out how it was done... It seemed like a useful skill to have.

Bigsby was so engaged in this activity that he nearly walked clean past Logan without even seeing him. Where exactly he was and where he was headed came whipping back through his head, and he stopped short, turning on his heels to see none other than the friend he was on his way to meet. Bigsby grinned and took one hand from the pocket of his heavy coat to lift his hat in the standard greeting he issued.

”'Dere you are! I almost missed'yez!” Bigsby said, stuffing his hand back into his pocket. He looked down to the paper Logan held, and asked, ”Where we headed, then?”

If Logan could see the world through Bigsby's eyes, maybe Wonderland would appear significantly more wonderful than it currently did. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that the Phanpy kid couldn't smell how disgusting Wonderland could be, especially Clubs-- Logan's nose was particularly sensitive today. He reached down for one of his scarves and brought it up over his mouth and nose, breathing through it. It wasn't as though he was particularly cold during the day, at least. It probably had something to do with the fact that Logan was vaguely malnourished.

Which would, ideally, change once he had his own place. But as he was an infant still, that wasn't gonna happen for quite some time. He watched Bigsby nearly walk right by him, just glaring at the blue-haired boy, willing him to turn around, since he himself had no desire to remove the scarf from his face just yet.

Still, he did smile eventually, as Bigsby noticed him on his own time. "I'm good at invisibility?" Logan offered. "First stop is down the street, second is somewhere around the corner... several blocks away." It would be quickly and abundandtly clear that Logan was going to trek them across a lot of the surrounding area, looking for the right place. He knew, in his head, what it had to be like... Hopefully the kid wouldn't be disappointed.

It wasn't that Bigsby couldn't smell how awful this corner of Wonderland reeked – it was that Bigsby couldn't smell at all this morning. He wore a bandage over his nose on a constant basis, not for decoration, but as a testament to his clumsiness. He was constantly bumping it on a variety of hard surfaces, from bookcase shelves to desk edges, and at the moment it was injured and swollen a little, and so stuffy that he couldn't smell a thing. Fortunately, the cold was doing it good, and the only part of it that showed was the stuffiness affecting his voice a tad.

Bigsby smiled and pressed a hand on top of Logan's head, ruffling the boy's already messy hair a little more in a playful gesture. ”Yez good at almost gettin' stepped on, ye ninny!” Bigsby exclaimed, grinning. The hand went back into his pocket again, and Bigsby shook his head quickly, trying to shake away some of the cold.

”C'mon, let's get movin', then,” Bigsby said, hoping to ward off the cold by staying in motion. He started off in the direction that Logan indicated, but didn't move quickly, hoping that his friend would take point. Bigsby didn't know exactly where they were going, and only had a vague idea of what they were doing, because he'd forgotten most of it already.

Logan did not know why Bigsby had the bandage thing on his nose. Honestly, he'd never thought to ask-- probably because whatever explanation Bigsby conjured would have something to do with "boppin" or it would mortify him so... just easier not to ask. Logan did not enjoy Bigsby ruffling his hair, at all. In fact, he glared at his friend, ears twitching.

"I'm not short enough for that," Logan protested, huffing. At least the sun would warm the park up, later, given they were perpetually in one of the hot seasons. Ah, Clubs; how Logan loved the season they were stuck in. Mostly. "Moving it is," Logan agreed, booking it to the first location. Which was ugly, damp, and covered in posters. "... I don't think this is the one," Logan lamented.

Next, the long walk to the second location. Which, it turned out, was now a roost for pigeons and alternatively, at night, looked to be a raccoon den. "... Want a lot of pigeons?" Logan asked, sighing.

There were a few more locations, but... if the rest were like these two, he wasn't too keen. However, as he turned around the corner from the pigeon place, there was a glint of the morning sun on a broken window, and Logan eyed the narrow opening. The door was locked, several times over. The rest of the area looked fairly clean, and more or less like it would be bustling once everyone actually woke up. "Bigsby... wanna break and enter with me?"

”What, don'tchyez like posters? Them's some neat posters!” Bigsby exclaimed, trying sarcasm as he stared up at their first stop. He didn't actually like them in the slightest; they had a faint creepiness about them. Something about the strange operas they advertised and the way the damp made them tear and peel at the edges weirded him out. He made no protest when Logan hurried on.

The walk to the second stop took an awful long time, and Bigsby began to grow distracted as they walked, his eyes going to every sunbeam that refracted off a reflective surface, playing strange games with his steps on the sidewalk, trying to get in so many before each crack. Primarily, it was his stomach; he hadn't eaten before he'd snuck out, his Papa still fast asleep in his own room, and now the long walk was working up his appetite. So when the duo reached the second derelict store on Logan's map, Bigsby was transfixed.

”I bet'chyez pigeons is good eatin', Logan!” Bigsby exclaimed, wiping at the corner of his mouth as he stared up at the winged rats roosting upon every available surface. Reluctantly, he followed Logan onward, though he stared back over his shoulder as they moved away.

Bigsby didn't see the luster of their final destination, other than the fact that it was less creepy and less... bird-y... than the few that had come before, but hey, what did Bigsby know?

”Why, Logan,” Bigsby said, looking to his friend, ”I thought ye'd never ask! You want a boost up to that window?”

Unlike Bigsby, Logan was examining his surroundings with exactitude and purpose; he had a mission, and Logan with a mission was practically unerring in his path. Zeroed in on whatever it was that he needed to accomplish. In this case, it was simply navigating and then examining the potential future domiciles.

"I bet they are not, too small, filthy. You can try if you want, though," Logan "graciously" offered Bigsby, gesturing towards the pigeons with a half-wave and zero energy. There wasn't a particular luster to the place, actually-- that was why Logan liked it. It looked very much like it did not want to be found at all.

Logan looked up at the window, down at Bigsby, and up at the window again. "Yes please, Bigsby, I'd like that," he replied, being uncharacteristically polite. Logan picked up a small bit of stone and prepared to be braced. He'd knock the glass out of the way before jumping in.

Bigsby was just about to suggest that Logan grab a rock, had turned with his mouth open and a finger in the air, only to see that Logan was a step ahead of him, or perhaps had read his mind. The Phanpy boy was disappointed, for the burst of intuition, the idea that a rock would make for a perfect instrument in shattering the shards of broken glass, had struck him as an original idea, and he'd been excited to suggest it. It wasn't often that Bigsby got to have the ideas. He sighed in defeat and let it go.

”Right, then. Make sure'yez watch your hands, Logan,” Bigsby said, as he prepared to give Logan the boost he needed, ”If'yez gets 'em all cut up, yez won't be able to open the door to let me in!”

With that said, Bigsby threw his shoulder against the wall of the building, directly underneath the window. He laced up his fingers, forming something like a platform for Logan to step on. Once Logan had his foot in place, Bigsby lifted his friend up with a spurt of his considerable strength, boosting him up to a level equal to the window to smash out the glass. He gave Logan one final push once the glass was out of the way, then waited at the window, looking up at it until Logan came around to let him in through the front.

The small growlithe looked beside himself with excitement. His tail flicked back and forth in erratic motions as Bigsby prepared to boost him up. He had to steady it, wrapping it under one arm to keep it from whipping Bigsby in the face. "I'll be careful, thank you for reminding me," he added, smiling up at the window, preparing to feel like he was flying to the home of his dreams.

He hadn't even seen the inside yet, and he was in love. Love at first sight. With a building, no less. "If you wait at the front door I will unlock it, I hope. If I knock three times, then it's stuck and you should go around the back in case there's a way in down that alley, okay?" Logan was so excited that he was having trouble even making eye contact; he just kept looking up at the window excitedly. Hopefully the front door would be unobstructed. If it wasn't... well, around the back it was! Besides, it would be extra useful if it had a second exit.

Stepping onto Bigsby's offered hands, Logan braced himself as Bigsby raised him up, and Logan knocked the shards of glass out with the rock before climbing on through. Once in, he climbed down on top of some dusty boxes, until his feet touched glass-covered ground. Thank goodness for the reinforced soles of his bunny slippers. Naturally, they had not started so sturdy, but given how often he wore them his father'd had them soled specially. When Logan was younger, wearing those slippers was the only thing that calmed him down.

Once at the front door, he saw that someone had actually nailed the door shut. Logan looked down at his tiny hands, up at the copious nails, and back down at his hands. Yeah, there was no way his scrawny infant hands were gonna pry that open. So he knocked on it three times, firmly, and looked for-- yes, there it was. A door at the back, near the end of the alley. Or the end of the segment they could access. A high wooden fence cut the alley access off. This door, for some reason, was only locked with a chain lock and a single door lock. He undid both of them and opened the door for Bigsby.

"Bigsby... I love it in here," he said, his little eyes shining with excitement. "I think I saw a staircase up to another floor!" Which was a must... because Logan intended to turn the main floor into a tattoo shop, and the upper floor into his living quarters, to save on rent.
