Terra was exhausted. She had stayed up all night, thanks to her worry that her new home might flood. Luckily it never did, but it had still left her without sleep and without a cloak. Once the sun came up, she could see the clouds had long since passed, but, unfortunately, the sand was still too wet. She wasn’t about to leave her home cloakless, but, despite her tiredness, she couldn’t sleep either, even though it would have been the perfect time to. Instead she spent the morning hours pacing and peeping out of the tunnel entranceway. As midday neared, she instead curled up at the entrance and kept watch, waiting for the sand to dry. Not surprisingly, as she lay there, she ended up losing consciousness.

A couple hours passed before she awoke. Up waking, she discovered that the sand was now dry! Glad to be done waiting, she hurried outside and began fashioning a cloak. This one was even better than her last one! The sand stuck to her quite well; she finally felt that she was getting competent at the fashioning of a cloak of sand! She couldn’t help but feel a bit of pride in the accomplishment. It was then that her stomach started rumbling. She suddenly realized that it had been quite some time since she had last eaten. She would have to find some food!

Slowly, she crept over the landscape, scanning her surroundings with eyes weighed down by exhaustion. She couldn’t continue like this, she needed a nap. Burrowing slightly into the ground, she shut her eyes and drifted off to sleep, completely camouflaged in the sand. She could get food later.

To say that Arashi was aggravated, annoyed, and just a bit depressed was bordering on severe understatement. Taking another break from the trials of town, it was all he could do not to try his luck in the Mint Meadow again. He had to convince himself that it wouldn't have been worth it, for it was obvious it wouldn't, not now -- he wasn't even an eevee anymore! Not in the eyes of everyone else, not downtown... heck, he was certain even Trace teetered on the belief that Arashi was still the same old eevee.

So instead, the eevee-child stuck around the beachside just outside the familiar swamp he had spent the night in numerous times. In irritation, he had grabbed a pebble and sent it speeding within its murky depths, but that did little to stem off this emotion. So he turned his back on it instead and paced what appeared to be a deserted patch of sand.

He tugged at the fabric of his jeans, finding the feeling of clothing against his body to be quite uncomfortable. How did humans get used to this? As he walked, he kicked at small dunes and various sea-bound items that had washed ashore in an attempt to vent.

Terra’s eyes shot open, as the ground around her seemed to quake and large cracks opened up, threatening to engulf her. In reality, that description of the events was a bit of an exaggeration, but she had been sleeping and the Eevee’s venting had mingled into her dream. It had been a rather pleasant dream; she had been laying in the dirt, safe and content, the sun filling her body with warmth and comfort. It was pretty much exactly what she was experiencing now, minus the Eevee.

Coming back to reality, just as the Eevee was about to kick at the small dune that she was forming, she let out a loud squeak. To anyone, even another Pokémon, it would be pure gibberish, a squeak of shock. Despite being an incoherent, one syllable sound, that technically meant nothing, it said much more than any other one syllable word, real or imaginary. It said things like ‘ack’ ‘I’m right here’ ‘please don’t kick me’.

Despite the fact that Arashi's ears were pinned as far back as irritation would allow, the hidden pokémon's shriek of terror came through crystal-clear. Terra was fortunate to have someone with quick reflexes rampaging through her new home, if one could be 'fortunate' in the midst of destruction of property. Arashi's bare toes were perhaps inches from where the tiny burmy lie cloaked in her surroundings, and in the middle of a swing at what appeared to be merely a mound of sand at his feet. At the sound, the eevee-child jarred the foot still on semi-solid ground, tilting his body just enough to miss the burmy playing a solo game of hide-and-seek. He stumbled a few steps, but caught himself from any danger of falling over.

He huffed a few times, adrenaline kicking him in the chest with the unexpected scream as he made certain his feet weren't moving anymore. Once he took note of everything, he spun back around to locate the mound of sand that just screeched at him, only to find the pokémon culprit behind it. It took him a moment, but gathering of thoughts seemed to fall short anyway and Arashi took hold of the situation with a shaken exclamation of, "You scared me half to death!" It didn't cross his expression, but as soon as the words left his mouth, he realized that the burmy could probably say the exact same thing. He sighed, a reaction to a strange mixture of relief and excessively heightened senses, before he plopped himself on the sandy floor to decrease the height distance between the two of them. "You okay?"

Shock, she was in a state of shock. She laid there, dumbfounded, words weren’t entering her brain and they certainly weren’t escaping her lips, or what passed for lips for a burmy. If anything, it was more of a beak, but that was neither here nor there, though for the first few moments, the same could be said of her and her blank, wide eyed stare. The initial moments of blank faced panic were soon usurped by sleepy time irritation. She had just lain down, for merely a moment, and already some ruffian had stampeded across her, almost literally across her. Was this what her new home had in store? Stampeding vagabonds that interrupt one’s rest? Wait, she thought as confusion flooded over her, what is that? He couldn’t be a pokemon, could he?

“I, I, um, I think I am ok?” she replied, looking at him curiously, then looking down at herself, checking to make sure she hadn’t been crushed. If she had been, she likely would have noticed it, but she was still quite tired, so she still felt the need to check. “Um, what are you?” she asked rather bluntly, before adding, as she assumed a defensive posture “You almost squished me! I could have been squished!” Before Arashi could respond, she yawned quite widely and leaned back, the defensiveness of her posture all but extinguished.

Arashi tilted his head slightly to the side as he watched the terrified burmy lie there in a frozen state of shock. With the length of time she stayed motionless, the boy was afraid he may have literally given her a heart attack. He was half-tempted to grab some driftwood and poke at her to make sure she was still alive, but his legs were locked in place and his mind was still frazzled after such a hard reboot to the system.

Luckily, she hopped back up, and seemed to be reacting to quite a large range of emotions. He supposed that was to be expected with a... near-maiming experience. He released a pent-up breath he was unaware he had been holding and looked the pokémon over once she stood upright, attempting to verify her statement. She did seem fine, if a bit fidgety, but with all that sand it was kind of hard to tell. "I thought I had missed you, but I wasn't a hundred-percent positive," he elaborated, poking at her side to determine with more accuracy, "Does this hurt?"

Leaning back, Arashi was taken aback by the burmy's question. He frowned and huffed, "I'm a pokémon, can't you tell? Or... at least I used to be..." Really, what was he? He had no idea how to react to a question like that anymore, and with the way his fur bristled, it may have been obvious that it was the source of his rampage moments earlier.

The tiny pokémon's polar opposite exclamations caused Arashi to stare incredulously in surprise before he started laughing at her sleepy yawn. He waved a hand as though to apologize for the laughter, but he couldn't stop himself soon enough, "Sorry, sorry. Um, yeah, I didn't see you there. What were you doing, sleeping on the beach when you're so camouflaged with the surroundings like that? It's dangerous!" As though that hadn't been established...

At his poke, Terra jumped so high that an observer would have been that certain she was a flying type. “Oww,” she exclaimed before realizing that it didn’t actually hurt, “I mean, hey, be careful.” Bending down, she quickly scooped up some sand to cover any hole, real or imagined, that his poke might have made in her protective outer coating. “No, it doesn’t really hurt,” she answered, with a bit of a delay and another yawn, “but this sand is new, it doesn’t want to stay on all that well.”

Learning forward, she asked, “Um, are you an eevee? Maybe a different type? You look kind of like an eevee, but they don’t normally walk around on two feet and wear clothes.” As much as she tended to try and avoid the contact of others, she couldn’t help but by curious at the oddity before her.

“It’s dangerous? You’re telling me!” Terra exclaimed in a moment of hyperactivity, at her current state of tiredness and adrenaline rushing, her mental state was flip flopping back and forth. “But I was just so sleepy, I needed some rest, and, until now, there was no one else around.”

Arashi's eyes went wide at the sandy burmy's initial reaction to his poke, afraid that he may have poked something that was actually sprained or broken. Or maybe he was just surprised at the air time, considering he couldn't very well see any definitive legs off of the pokémon that would hint at such springy abilities. After that brief moment of shock and verification that the burmy was not, indeed, actually hurt, Arashi whistled, impressed, "That was quite the leap! You an athlete or something?" He snickered, but it was partly out of relief for her response, "Sorry, I didn't mean anything by it. It's just sometimes you don't notice something hurts until something else forces it to hurt. Take it from someone who does it a lot." Blinking, Arashi tried examining the sand to figure out another way the burmy could keep the cloak on better, but honestly, he didn't know how she could at all. "Why not... use something other than sand?" he offered with a bit of a shrug.

While Terra's probing may have irritated and depressed him but seconds prior, the more questions she asked, the more he realized that maybe she had a point. Eevees were known for bizarre evolution cycles... maybe this was one of them? It didn't help that, when he had actually found the star that the jirachi had left for him, he didn't actually see it before the effects were already on board in his consciousness. "Umm... well, maybe it is? I'm not actually sure what happened, honestly," he noted, more light-hearted sounding now as he pondered it. He actually liked that possibility; it made him feel less of an outcast in the pokémon world he was so accustomed. "The clothing, however, was not by choice. They're really difficult to get used to," he stated with a grimace and a tug at his shirt.

The burmy's bipolar energy signatures were really amusing the eevee-boy as he watched her sway from lethargy to hyperactivity and back again. Mention that the beach was otherwise unoccupied prompted the child to survey the surrounding area and verify that she wasn't mistaken. He frowned, "Well that's weird... most people like taking a trip to the beach. Must be an off-season." He wasn't really up on the hype, but it didn't seem like it was too cold for a trip to the beach. Then again, he was used to being much too hot, so there was really no comparison he could rely on. "Nevertheless, it can get really busy around here. You should be careful where you sleep, or you could have experienced much worse," he almost seemed to lecture before he scanned the area again, "Not that... there's really much safer an area. Why were you way out here..?" While it was obvious that the burmy was new to the area, he didn't think she would just randomly opt to sleep in the middle of the beach unless she had found somewhere safer to stay. Or passed out from exhaustion, there was always that... "My name's Arashi, by the way. Are you hungry? I think I might still have some berries in my pocket..." he asked as he began digging. He hoped the random passing out wasn't a result of starvation, but wanted to be sure.

“An…athlete?” Terra asked, not realizing how high she had jumped. Shaking it off, she continued, “Well, if I used something other than sand, at least out here, it wouldn’t be very good camouflage. And anyways, it just isn’t sticking as well because it’s new, once it’s on for a while, it will stay better. But I just put it on before I fell asleep. It needs time to secure itself.”

“Hmm, I see,” Terra replied, in mock comprehension. She really had no idea how such a thing could happen. Then is hit her, like a freight train. “Oh! Wait! Are you around humans a lot? Don’t some eevees turn into things that are near them? Like eevees in the snow turn into glaceons, and eevees around trees and such turn into leafeons! Were you around a lot of humans? You could be an, um, humeeon?” It had to be it, at least it certainly made sense to her. At his grimace, her eyes drifted from his clothing to her cloak. It didn’t really seem all bad, wearing clothes that is.

“Berries?” Terra asked, her eyes widening, “Actually, when I, um, passed out, I had been looking for something to eat. I haven’t eaten for so long!” As if to emphasize her statement, her stomach began to growl. She almost felt like she could eat a whole berry bush! “Oh!” she exclaimed, remembering that he had said things other than talk of food, “And I am Terra!”

Arashi pondered on it for a bit longer, peering around behind the burmy. "Well what about... seaweed or something? That would work and be easier to work with, wouldn't it?" he offered, pointing to a sprig caught on a rock a little ways off. He scrunched his nose at it, realizing it looked like it might be a little itchy to wear for long periods of time, not to mention having to maintain it's moisture issues... "Eh, never mind; bad example," he conceded, even though sand seemed to be almost as big of a hassle to work with. Terra's explanation of how the cloak worked had the boy surprised and fascinated, "That's how it works? Wow, I was unaware. That's pretty cool!" Maybe it wasn't as bad of a disguise as he originally thought.

The burmy's rationale seemed rather sound to Arashi, for even though he was an eevee, he had no idea how the evolution cycle for them actually worked. Truthfully, if he had known, he probably would not have been carrying around his "good luck charm" so readily and constantly. "It's... very possible. That sounds about right. Hmm... it's just strange that I haven't heard of it happening before. I mean... there are a lot of eevees that live around humans. Maybe their environment makes them better suited to a different element, but still..," he thought aloud, scratching his head in confusion, "'Human' isn't really a... pokémon type." Even though he was trying to grasp for a different conclusion than the one that Terra had offered, he still found it to be the most logical thought up as of yet. It was certainly better than Havoc's insistence that he was bitten by a radioactive human and gained super powers...

Ah, Arashi had been afraid she would give him that answer. He knew the pocketful of berries wouldn't be enough for an appetite like that, but there was nothing more he could offer, at least immediately. Locating the berries he had mentioned, he pulled them off and picked the pocket lint off of the skins, offering the entire array, "Here you go, you need them more than I do. Take them all, then maybe we can look for something else for you to eat, eh?" He smiled at that, but really wasn't sure what they could find to eat on a beach... What did burmies eat, anyway? Other than the generic pokémon food, he had absolutely no idea. Regardless, he snickered, "Terra, huh? Sounds fitting, I like it!"

“Seeweed? That would itch and it would dry up. I don’t want to have to stay wet all the time… That wouldn’t be comfortable at all. That would be way worse than a cloak of leaves or garbage….” Just the thought of it made her feel all itchy and uncomfortable. “When we evolve, it actually becomes a permanent part of us, fusing with our bodies. Then we never have to worry about losing our camouflage!”

“Since you changed, have you learned any unusual moves? Maybe a poison type move?” Having seen the refuse left behind by humans, some wrapped around her trash cloaked kin, she could certainly see them as poison type. “With how they litter, maybe humans are poison type! Either that or normal….”

Upon being handed the berries, Terra couldn’t help but devour them. “Thank you,” she mumbled through a mouth full of food. After speedily devouring the berries, she licked her hands clean of juices. Looking up at Arashi, she asked, “You wanted to look for more food?”
PostPosted: Sun Aug 25, 2013 11:19 pm

Arashi snickered as Terra came to the same conclusions that the eevee-boy silently had moments prior. "I'd have thought the sand would be itchy as well, but you probably get used to it more if you're in it all the time, huh?" he contemplated. Growing more wide-eyed at the thought, he attempted to imagine how a fused sand-cloak would work in tandem with a living pokémon like that. He wasn't much for solving unposed riddles like that -- that was more Trace's department -- but the tawny child still found it fascinating nonetheless. "Now that would be exceptionally handy! Kind of sucks that it takes so long to be able to do that, though... but all things come to those who wait, am I right?" he grinned, nudging slightly at the sand around his feet, "So does the sand turn to rock when it does that, or what?"

It didn't take him long to deliberate on what moves he still had at his disposal, swiftly offering Terra a shake of his head. "No, I still know all the moves I knew before I evolved. And... that's it. I haven't really learned anything other than that," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. He wanted to change that fact, especially before running into Rei again, but at this point he didn't even know if she'd want to battle him again, looking like this. Oh heck, why was he concerned? Of course she would, she seemed to be out to prove some point or another, good enough excuse as any. He pulled his hand back out and started tallying off his moves per finger, "Tackle, Helping Hand, Sand-Attack, Growl... nothing really unusual." His ears twitched at the mention of being a poison type and cracked up, "Well wouldn't that be something if I was?"

Arashi hadn't been expecting Terra to eat all of the berries, let alone so fast. "Oh wow, you really were hungry!" he exclaimed, his hand free of occupation within a matter of seconds. There was a slight grin offered in return to the gratitude, "Heh, it was no problem, I'm just glad I had something to offer!" Scanning the area, mostly devoid of anything willingly edible, he sighed, "Well, I was just concerned what little I had wouldn't be enough to really fill you up. I'd help you find anything else to eat, if you wanted, but I'm... not really sure where else to look." Flicking his tail, he scrunched his nose in reaction to a hazarded thought, "...Fish? I don't know."

“Actually, the sand feels nice; it’s really comfortable! It really warms up nicely when I am in the sun!” Terra replied, smiling as she thought about her toasty sand cloak. “And well, it doesn’t really become rock, it just becomes part of my body….it is kind of hard to explain.” The fact that she wasn’t sure exactly how it happened made it even more difficult for her to explain.

Sniffing the air Terra commented, “Well I guess you don’t smell like a poison type….” The only poison types she had ever run into were a trio of trubbish, a muk, and a koffing, so, while it wasn’t always the case that they smelled, it certainly seemed that way to her. “Hmm, you know tackle? I know tackle as well! That and Bug bite and Protect; I don’t know 4 moves.”

“Fish? I’ve never fished before…. I wouldn’t even know how….” Looking down at herself, she added, “My sand might come off…” Looking around, she commented, “There has to be some berry bushes around here somewhere…”

In some strange, abstract way... Terra's sand cloak looked like it could be taken for a sweater. It still looked rather fluffy and comfy, even though Arashi was still unsure how the burmy kept the thing intact. "Hard to explain, and hard for everyone else to understand, it seems..." the eevee-boy considered, more amused than irritated. Eh, he was used to being left in the dark; at least she was trying! He shrugged, "Either way, it works! That's pretty ingenious to do, though. I would have never thought you could use sand like that."

Arashi blinked in surprise to Terra's observation, holding an arm up to his own nose to test the thought himself. "Well, I don't know what a poison-type normally smells like, but you make it sound like it's a good thing I don't smell like one. Eh, I'll figure out what I've become eventually. Probably," the boy mused with a snicker. It was probably for the best; it sounded like poison-types affected everyone around them in the worst ways possible. "Tackle is a great starting move!" the eevee cackled, hitting the air in front of him with a light fist jab, "It's alright you only have four moves so far, though. We all have to start somewhere! I didn't always have four, either." At least she had a variety of moves at her disposal in order to protect herself!

"You haven't had fish before?" the boy asked, "Oh... do you even eat meat? Or is it just because it would be kind of difficult to go fishing?" At the mention of her sandy cloak, it made sense that it would prove quite the feat not to lose it when it had been exposed to water. "Does it just... come off when you get wet at all?" he asked with a curious frown, "What if you fought a water-type? What if it rains?" It was starting to sound like a sand shell wasn't the best course to take in this area... Taking another glance toward the area past the beach, the child sighed, regarding the idea, "There might be some bushes that way, but I don't see any from here. Want to go take a look? I'll help out." He might even be able to spot something easier, with his height advantage.

“When I get bigger and evolve, though, it won’t ever come off,” Terra stated, “It will be permanent; I wouldn’t be able to replace it even if I wanted to.” After a moment she added, “Luckily, I really like it. Oh, and that is only because I am a girl. If I was a boy, I would lose my sand cloak completely and grow wings; I think I prefer things this way…”

“They smell really bad…really, really bad,” Terra confirmed, “Well maybe not the snake looking ones…but the gooey and gassy ones smell really bad…and the ones that look like garbage…” At his statement regarding tackle, Terra looked a bit shocked. “Really? Tackle is a great move? It seems like it would be better to strike from a distance or something. Like to shoot a ball of fire or something! Though, I would never be able to do that….”

Shaking her head, Terra stated, “No, I’ve never had meat… What is it like?” Looking down at her sand cloak, she replied, “It’s just that it is new; it takes a while to fully firm up. Once it is nice and solid, little bits will fall off, but it will pick up new sand at the same time, so the outer layers will keep falling off and getting replaced, but the rest will stay in place.” Looking as he gazed off, she confirmed, “We could try there.” Popping up, she began to creep in that direction. She really hoped there was some food there.
