The Backstory

After the death of the Mad King Galbatorix, a tentative peace settled over the land of Alagaesia, as the Varden, led by Nasuada, established themselves as the leaders of a free and just land. The last free Riders in the land, the first of their kind in over a hundred years, Eragon, Arya, and Murtagh, all of whom played a pivotal part in the end of the Mad King's reign, all went their separate paths after the end of the war. Arya, now queen of the elves and the first trainer for new Riders, took her rightful place on the throne in Ellesmera, the elven stronghold. Murtagh disappeared off to the north, to cleanse both him and Thorn of the Mad King's influence. Eragon, the first of the Riders, decided to leave Alagaesia forever, taking all but two of the remaining newly discovered dragon eggs with them, to a distant land in the east, now called Angarvunde, the dragon stronghold, where he has established a new, grand place of learning for new Riders and Acolytes alike.

This peace was only temporary. With the only Rider left in Alagaesia focused upon her duties as Elf Queen and instructor, the sanctity that Nasuada, and the leaders of the various races of Alagaesia dreamt of with the end of Galbatorix, now seemed as intangible as the void itself. An anti-Rider sentiment has spread through the land in the absence of Eragon and Saphira, the symbols of freedom. This sentiment threatens to destroy the world itself. Galbatorix's time may have come to an end, but the cruel, dark magic he wrought upon the land still remained, everlasting, unpredictable, and dangerous. Will the Dragon Riders prevail again, or will Alagaesia sink once more into the depths of despair?

The Current State of Affairs
Sixteen years have passed since the end of the war between Galbatorix and the Varden. Ismira has grown to be quite the fair maiden, attracting males from every corner of the town of Carvahall, rebuilt under the influence of her father, Earl Roran Stronghammer.

A Simplified Version of the Current State of Affairs
For all you readers who didn't get that. Basically, its the Legend of Korra. Didn't get that either? Okay, basically its sorta like the typical good versus bad sort of thing, except it happens in a different timeline and under different circumstances than the original Eragon storyline.
