The sun had already begun a laboring descent into the horizon long before Pariah finished churning the large square of earth, now combed into neat rows. A soil tiller sat idle behind the monochrome behemoth, about as useful as a rusting, over-sized paperweight when not devouring the physical exertion applied by its master. It had come with the land, a comfortable sized lot close enough to the forest's edge to appease the mountain born hermit, yet not so far from the nearest village that company was impossible to find. It suited Pariah well enough and had since he'd come to these new lands, though the brute often wondered how his mate was settling in to their new life.

He was well enough used to be being a stranger in a strange land. Anyone who was born in the frigid climate of slopes that scraped the heavens was likely not to feel entirely at home anywhere else. Diriel though, their old home had likely been the only one he'd ever known. Pariah could only hope the azure nymph was happy with the location as much as everything around it.

Giving the western woodland a sidelong glance beneath the edges of his bangs golden rays slithered between the branches where breaks in the greenery allowed the sun hidden behind their collective mass to peek through. A haze of wildfire hues kept the heavens bright for now, before long the sky would be dark. Where was his mate? Grunting to himself Pariah lifted the leather harness from his shoulders, exhaustion from a hard day's labor made the retired soldier move a little more slowly than he might have normally. Hanging the heavy layers of tack on one of the metal arms at the mouth end of the wedge shaped plow--he'd return the tool to the shed later, after the bath he sorely needed. Fur damp and laden with dirt from a day of straining against the terrain that had been so unyielding beneath his hooves. At least it was ready for planting, though deciding what would be grown upon the plot was entirely Diriel's domain.

As a yawn pried the predator's jaws wide, revealing scything fangs, Pariah left the empty landscape in favor of finding his lover. Long strides carried the weary brute towards a small cottage without any thought behind each step, unconsciously seeking out his beloved.

User ImageDiriel was still growing accustomed to these new lands, swept away by the natural beauty of it all. He had known what it meant to lose one's home. He had fled from his mother when he was but a colt, scorned and revolted for his tree-like appendages and his strange, stitched mouth. He did not know why he was born the way he was--but it had happened. Somehow, in the chaos of it all, struggling to survive on his own, he'd found Pariah. The stallion was rough, rugged, and not like anything he'd ever experienced before-but Diriel had fallen hopelessly in love before he could even realize what that all entailed.

This new life felt like the beginning that they needed. His elbows rested lightly on the window sill, gazing out at the woods with a faint, but pleased smile curling at his lips. He already loved it here. It was warm--always a plus for the temperature-sensitive Diriel--and it was beautiful. With luck, he would be able to begin planting crops soon and live off the land itself. It was a delightful thought, and his tail swished without thinking.

Right on cue, his ears caught sounds of his lover's heavy hooves, and he straightened with anticipation, pushing himself up onto his feet. He didn't hesitate to fling his arms around Pariah's neck, uncaring of the fact that he was hot and dirty and likely in need of a good bath. All he knew was that he was so very grateful to see his mate, and would never get enough of feeling him in his arms.

"I was just wondering where you were," He murmured against Pariah's chest, nuzzling affectionately there for a moment before he tilted his head up to beam up at his lover.

Approaching the sturdy, comfortably sized cabin with its ashen walls of solid Birch and smooth, flawlessly interwoven flagstone Pariah lifted his chin proudly despite the exhaustion that weighted down the rest of his immense frame. No more than a quarter of a mile away from the acre of tilled soil, that now formed neat, square plots raked with dozens of grooves for seeding rows of fruits and vegetables and whatever else Diriel fancied the idea of growing, long strides devoured the distance effortlessly. Cloven hooves caused the porch to bark as a bounding leap over the ascending stairwell brought Pariah to the front door. If not for the certainty that Diriel was lurking somewhere nearby, the scent of the pastel blue nymph heavy in his nostrils, the brute might have burst through the door with enough force to tear it from the hinges.

No need to go knocking his lover unconscious.

Snorting at the thought, the warrior-turned-farm boy was ultimately glad for his reserve, stoic visage warming with quiet affection to be greeted by Di as soon as he entered the domain they called their own. Swaddled in the warmth of a gentle embrace Pariah nearly closed his solid grip upon the supple frame of the tempting stallion, the motion remained half completed as a leery glance was cast upon filthy palms. Nearly as black with dirt as naturally sooty digits.

A reluctant sigh filled the air as he resisted touching his mate. No easy feat for certain, particularly with Diriel snuggled against his chest so irresistibly. Consoled only by the thought that there would be time later to compensate for opportunities lost in the current moment, a fond n** scraped the tip of the tapered nose buried against the fur that thinned as it descended the length of a torso solid as granite. Plowin's finished. Should head into town... maybe t'morrow. Pick out the seeds y'wanna plant. If you're up to it.

The last bit was added after a moment's pause, to be certain Diriel was aware he had a choice. An impassive wall of monochrome, Riah slipped from the circle of slender arms carefully, weaving his way into the kitchen to fill a pitcher of water. Pleasingly cool, the liquid slid easily down his throat in long, greedy gulps as thirst left the filthy beast breathless when dusky lips peeled back from the edge of the container. Empty once more.

Diriel rose up onto the tips of his hooves to better squeeze Pariah, a soft, wordless hum. It was like trying to hug a tree--so he wasn't the least bit worried about hurting his lover. "Yes," He said happily, beaming up at the older stallion. "Not sure what I want, yet. Somethin' we can harvest eventually." He knew Pariah was a carnivore through and through, but still. Maybe something he planted could benefit both of them. "I think about it. You think of anything good, tell me." It was their garden, that way, and the thought made his heart flutter a bit in a way that felt impossibly good.

When he felt Ri beginning to move, he lightly stepped to the side, not wanting to impede the other's progress. He had no doubt that his mate was tired after working hard all day. Besides, getting to watch Pariah drink like that was a shameless bit of indulgence on his part, too. Of course, he couldn't watch for long though, eventually having to drop his gaze and busy himself elsewhere to try and stave off the color rushing to his cheeks.

"You'll need a bath," He murmured to himself, his tail twitching even as he folded his arms across his chest. "Seems like it's hot out today..."

Occasionally caught off guard by the reinforcement of Diriel's affectionate expressions, being embraced by a boy so endearingly sweet and remarkably innocent still put him ill-at-ease from time to time. How in all holy hell, the gods had ever saw it fit to bestow upon him, a beast of ill repute, such a gracious gift as Di's unwavering devotion was often beyond him. Back in the days when their love was still fumblingly awkward Pariah had often considered questions of a similar sort, only then he hadn't much cared what the answer was. Instead, he had thought of only grasping the mystical nymph with both, coveting hands in order to prevent the misfortune of losing what was quickly becoming his most prized possession.

Watching Diriel out of the corner of his eye, averting what had moments before been a gaze of unrestrained appreciation for--whatever it was he saw in the monochrome derelict, even now after so much time together Pariah still felt his emotions stir unbidden. Forcing them in check as he set the pitcher aside on the polished stone counter top, the only thing he didn't hide from the stunning masterpiece of beauty in masculine shape was the dangerously inappropriate edge that reflected off his fanged grin. Wholly due to the mention of what watery blue eyes must have observed as an impressively grimy physique. Granted they didn't seem to seek him now as if the suggestion in itself embarrassed him.

Maybe Diriel knew the intimate thoughts that flickered behind eerily disorienting hues which seemed to mirror the colors of its twin, inversely. A naturally rustic and gravely tone spilled across the distance between them huskily. Raw with an honest and unbridled hunger though his speech would ever out-duel the sophistication of an educated aristocrat. Not s'much as it could be...

Silent promise seeped from every word as a shaggy, scarred visage regarded Di with a leisurely roving, even admiring, gaze. Slow to close the distance between them least he cause the shy male to retreat from what could have easily been viewed as a predatory approach. Pariah always feared that someday his mate might flinch and flee from him should he ever become too hasty in his desire to show his heavy-handed version of fondness. As a result the brute often deliberately restricted his own actions and impulses in an effort not to startle or strike terror in his striking companion, torturous as it was not to act with the primitive and bestial wanton that was as much a part of his nature as to consume the flesh of lesser beasts. Bathe with me?

Eyes that failed at gentler expressions in most instances fell upon Diriel imploringly now, even if his tone suggested he would be hard pressed to accept no as an answer.

The almost lewd grin that Pariah offered him was enough to make color flush to his cheeks, and his tail squirmed and coiled in clear pleasure. Though Diriel might have learned how to conceal his emotions on his face, but his body was still all too ready to betray him. Pariah was a creature with an appetite, and though he still blushed if he thought too hard about it, Diriel had to admit that he rather enjoyed being the one to sate the beast.

"No?" He did manage to inquire without stuttering, something that pleased him greatly. It was all too easy to melt under the intensity of those brilliant hues, and the smaller stallion felt his breath catch in his throat even as his mate's eyes rolled over his form. He did feel very much like some small, weak creature even as Pariah stalked closer, but it wasn't fear that made his heart pound. For all of his mate's size and power, Diriel never even concerned that the brute would deliberately harm him. He loved Pariah, and he would bet his life that the feeling was mutual.

The question did make him smile even as he instinctively dropped his head to hide it, shifting his weight on his hooves as he did so. "Of course," He agreed, very nearly shy, and he closed the distance between them so he could take Pariah's much larger hand. He nuzzled tenderly at the digits there, instinctively flicking his tail so it could coil around Ri's without much difficulty.

"Now?" He didn't quite turn towards the door, still not releasing his mate's hand. If allowed, he'd hold it all the way there.

A river of sensation slid through the length of his whipcord tail, causing it to still immediately in its anticipated twitching. Quieting the beast. For a long moment Pariah simply stared down into sapphire eyes, mesmerized, lost in a moment of realization that stretched on as he fought to grasp the reality of it. This is real, isn't it?

As if Diriel could read his thoughts, in that infinitely intuitive way he had, the slide of softly furred digits touched his own. Sliding gently along the length of his own strong fingers in silent, unconscious reassurance. He was there and so very real. The warmth of him tantalizing in their closeness. Every breath its own sweet caress as Di nuzzled his enormous hand.

The soft purr of his mate's voice finally broke the spell as Pariah heard himself answer the question in a tone that surprised him. Eager. Boyish. Giddy.

As if nothing in the world would have delighted him more than lathering his beloved in a veil of white foam. Now.

Impatience set in just a quickly as it had fled, coupled with an urgency not to waste any more of their evening on idleness. Using the fingers curled around his own as a means to maneuver Diriel, spiraling effortlessly towards the door as his thumb brushed over the ridge of delicate knuckles. A doting gesture Pariah was certain his observant lover would notice, no matter how discreetly he attempted to show his affection. C'mon, night's wasting.

Bending to scoop up the basket near the entrance of their house--which contained wash rags, soap and all the necessities for bathing--it was quickly passed into Diriel's arms. Shouldering the wooden door open nearly in the same instant that it took him to sweep the vision of sweet serenity off his hooves and into the shelter of his arms. The pair of them bursting out into a hazy dusk of golden embers that licked at the edge of a forest shrouded in shadows. Giving way to a darkness dusted with stars. Even the heat was beginning to burn off with the change from solar to lunar light reigning the sky, leaving the air comfortably mild even as they closed in upon the steam swirled pool.
