Glow Thread Tutorial

Hello. My name is SS2 Sith Lord, but if you'd like to, call me Sith.
I understand that there is a need for a guide to help new tank owners get themselves set up. I hope to alleviate the stress involved by trying to simplify things into this guide. It may not answer all of your questions. If it does not, feel free to contact Angeni1 or Fred66 and they will try to help you.

Getting Started

The first thing you are going to want to do is to go to the Gaia Aquarium forum. There you will start a new thread and title it "Setting Up" or "Do Not Post" Something along those lines. Then after you have done that you will want to do one of two things:

*Reserve all 15 posts on the first page and delete all but one or two.

This method prevents lag for people with slower computers because there aren't multiple signatures and posts to load for the page, and it makes your thread look more organized.

Aquarium Tools

Now that you have your Glow Thread made (although your thread title should still read "Do not post" ) , It's time to introduce King Awesomolocity into your memory bank. This individual has made it possible for us to know when we are glowing and to even view statistics about our fish. This helps in a ton of ways. The two tools that I will go over are called Tank Analyzers and Glow Timers. Glow Timers are images telling you how many players you currently have and even how long you have been glowing, depending on which kind you use. Tank Analyzers are links that go offsite to sites that King Awesomolocity run. It is completely safe. It is where you can view your fish and their names, how long they have to live, and other useful information.
Here are the tools and underneath are the codes for the tools. Keep in mind, what ones you pick are entirely up to you. Some people choose one and others use both.

Aquarium User ID

So now you have lines of codes. But what is with the question marks? That is where you are going to have to plug in numbers. You will find these numbers by going to your signature and clicking the view aquarium link. Not the Aquarium tab from your My Gaia page, but from your most recent post in forums. Then you will look into the address bar of the window and see this group of numbers.

After you put those numbers into the code then you will be ready to put your tools where they need to go.

Codes for your Siggy

These are the places to put your codes. You will want two things in your signature. You will want a Glow Timer and a link leading to your Glow Thread you have created. To make a link to your Glow Thread you take this coding here:

Find this number in the address bar while viewing your new Glow Thread.

Codes for your Glow Thread

Another place you will want these tools is in that first post of your Glow Thread. So you will want at least one Glow Timer, at least one Analyzer, one Direct Link. WHAT? What's a Direct Link?
I'll tell you what it is. It's so people who have trouble getting into your glowing tank can go DIRECTLY to your tank in a seperate window. Almost like the way you normally play, but different. Trust me. People need these things. To get your Direct Link you will need to go back to your aquarium in your siggy ( Remember. Not your Aquarium tab) and copy everything in the address bar. And make a standard link titled direct link. That's it.

So you have a link leading to your Glow Thread in your siggy along with your Glow Timer.
And you have you're Glow Timer, Analyzer, and Direct Link in the first post of your Glow Thread.
One more thing before we get to finally name your thread. The Reply Box link.
Lots of people would rather be able to quickly post in your thread and then play your tank. Nothing wrong with that at all is there? And in many cases people use Reply Box links instead of just the normal link that leads to your thread. Remember the number that you found in the address bar of your Glow Thread? The one with the t. in front of it. Well plug it in here, without the t.

Make sure to leave out the "t."

Put that in your siggy instead of the regular link that leads to your thread if you want. Same thing with the first post of your Glow Thread. This is your thread. So use whatever you wish.

Name Your Thread

Now it's time to name your Glow Thread!
Pick a name that represents your tank well. This is your billboard that will get people's attention. You don't want to lie, that will upset people. But If you have some big fish, you want to advertise them. If you have item droppers, put that in the title. Make sure to go with your strengths.

GLOWING Mini Monsters
Dolphins and Monsters
Glowing Enki and Item Droppers

Please Bump

The last thing i want to talk about is proper bumping etiquette. You should only post in a glow thread if it is glowing. When you are glowing and people bump you, try to bump them when they are glowing. You should also play Booty Grab often. You want to expose your tank to other owners. Let them know that you are here and you are taking your tank seriously. That is pretty much all i can think of. If anybody has any questions at all feel free to contact Angeni1 or Fred66
