What was she doing?
Hel took a moment to think about that as she stood at the end of the dock and peered towards the other, clutching onto her messenger bag tightly. Visiting a friend. That’s what she assured herself that she was doing. Hel pulled on the hem of her tank top, fretting. It was hot outside and she had ditched some of her usual layers. She was seeking the comfort of being around a friend because she was hurting again. She tried not to let some rather harsh words bounce around in her head as she swallowed a lump in her throat anxiously.
The reaper finally took a step onto the wooden planks, her boots thumping as she made her way down and towards the other end.
“…Hey there.”

Mac was standing in his boat, tying it back up to the dock when he heard footsteps. So few people came to this dock, whether it be because it was out of the way or simply because people were hesitant around water, so the sound of someone approaching was odd. He paused what he was doing, turning to look over his shoulder to see who it was, and surprise lit up his features when he saw her.
"Hel?" He questioned, still holding the end of rope he had been using to tie down the boat. "Hey." What else did you say? He didn't mean to feel awkward around her, but it was a surprise to see her here, again, of all places.

Okay, not bad. At least he wasn’t looking at her like he didn’t want her to be there. She felt pretty good with herself for not being awkward at prom…but it was certainly a different atmosphere than right now. Still, this was encouraging to her, and she managed to smile.
“You were right, again.” She informed the boil, and then paused, not sure what else to say at the moment, and her fingers tapped her bag a bit. Oh…wait, duh! Her bag! After a moment of silence, she followed up her statement. “Ah…are you hungry?” Okay, it was kind of random, but it was Hel. “I packed a lot of food that I would be happy to share.” Why had she packed a lot of food? Had she been planning this? Hmmm…

"I'm always right." He boasted again with a smirk, though his voice sounded a little...off. "Why now?" Did she come out here to talk again? He had seem her and Mot around Prom, everything seemed to be going okay, but...did something go awry again? The mention of food made him perk up, making a one minute gesture to let him finish up what he had been doing with the boat. Eventually he was back on the docks, taking a seat on the very end, leaving his precious tied to the side of the dock on his left. As he waited for her to join him, he realized that she had packed a lot of food. One didn't pack a lot of food to go to a dock for no reason.
"So then...you came here to find me?" He guessed, tilting his head to stare at her almost suspiciously. "It's poisoned, isn't it?" Nautrally, he was teasing...or was he?

“Ya…I am seeing that!” Her confidence was boosted again, even if his voice sounded off. As he went about settling his boat, Hel spoke. “You were right about not wanting to say a thing. I should have listened.” Her smile was a bit wry now, and once he settled on the end of the dock, she joined him, settling close to him. At his guess, the ghoul hummed thoughtfully before grinning lightly. “…Ya, okay. You caught me.” She then opened her bag, and started pulling out what she had packed.
First, she placed wrapped, roast beef sandwiches on Mac’s lap, and between them squeezed a container of sliced and seasoned potatoes, a container of pasta salad, a container of quiche, and a container of rice. Hel really likes to cook, what can she say. She also pulled out a pack of black cherry soda, and then looked back up at Mac. “…Heh. Now would be a bad time to say I am the apprentice to the school counselor, huh?” At his next question, Hel smiled a bit wider and went about unwrapping her own sandwiches. “You will find out tomorrow.”

"Yeah, well, what's done is done, not we just have to live with it." At least things with Lizzy had gotten considerably better since then. There were still a lot of harsh words, a few strained touches, but on the whole it was better than he expected. He watched her now, pondering what she meant; he supposed that she had told Mot, and that it didn't go well. Of course he wasn't surprised if that was the case, but at the same time it only made him feel worse. He didn't like Mot...he never really liked Mot, but he felt for him right now.
Instead of feeling bad for Mot (which made him feel all sorts of dirty), he watched as she pulled container after container out of her bag, including the sandwiched on his lap. Black eyes nearly bugged out of his head as he watched, wondering what part of this was too much; it was an understatement. It didn't look bad at all...and then the news came.
"Uh, yeah, that's a really bad time to say that." His nose wrinkled, clearly disgusted, and leaned back from the sandwich on his lap as if it stunk in a bad way. "Suddenly very much not hungry." Then, her warning. "...Definitely not hungry now." In fact, he dumped his sandwich, still in it's wrapper, onto her lap instead.

“…Ya. You are right.” Couldn’t go back and change time, after all, but she still couldn’t help but lament as to how Mac got the better end of the stick than she did. It was her idea to do the right thing after the wrong thing, and it felt like she was the one who lost everything. Just her luck, she supposed.
Instead of being offended as Mac looked disgusted and then handed the food back to her, Hel looked amused, and shook her head a bit. “Ah, sorry. Bad time for a joke…I would never tamper with your food, Mac…that is underhanded, and I do not like underhanded tactics…” She sighed a bit, and placed the sandwich she had made for him on top of the containers between them. The ghoul finished unwrapping her sandwich and pulled at bits of it, nibbling at it that way. “The only thing he has taught me to do thus far is craft a glove that makes beings grow beards when I slap them anyways.”

"As always, yes. Yes I am." Mac chuckled, running his fingers through his hair, pushing up his hat for a moment or two. "Though sometimes, I don't want to be." When he was done he took his hat off, brushed back his hair and put it back on, fitting it properly over his head.
"True. You're the type to shoot first, ask questions later." He mused with a laugh, reaching over to take the wrapped up sandwich back, setting it back on his lap as though he had never moved it in the first place. As he started to unwrap the first one, he listened to her words, casting a sideglance at her. A glove...that grew beards? That was...that was something special.
"If you hit me with it, I'll throw you in the lake and hold you under until you dissipate." He warned, taking his first cautious bite of the sandwich.

Hel’s lips quirked up in amusement. “Goodness, Mac, it sounds like a very heavy burden, being right all the time. You have my sympathy.” And her sarcasm. The ghoul watched as he adjusted his hat, his hair, and then put his hat back on. “…It seems like every so often, you have a new hat!” She observed, her brows furrowing in thought for a moment before she grinned a bit. “…What do you do with your old ones? May I have one?”
She seemed pleased as well as he reclaimed the sandwich she had made for him. Honestly, Hel would have been pretty bummed if he hardly touched…any of the food she had made with him in mind. “Ah, that I am, that I am. I like to leap before I look.” She shredded some more bits from her sandwich, popping them into her mouth before snorting softly. “Aw, but Mac, you are working on growing some fuzz, and if I slapped you with my magical glove, I would save you the trouble of waiting…and you could trim it down however you liked.”

"Huge." Mac drawled. Yes, it was a very heavy, large burden. But it was one he suffered with for better or for worse. He seemed surprised when she brought up his hats, looking up to the one he was wearing now; yes, it was different! He almost wanted to thank her for noticing. Almost. "Uh, err...yeah. I like hats, I have a few of them." Understatemtnt of the year of course.
"...If you want? Lizzy got the hat I wore in my first year, since Charlie wanted my coat." He explained, scratching his jaw; the growing hair was so itchy! "You can have my last one, I guess." Lizzy could have his jacket, if she wanted it. She did seem somewhat disappointed she didn't get his year one coat, after all! Besides, the one he generally wore during his second year was more matching to her colours. Pink and Brown was nice.
"You will end up in the lake and held under until dissipation." He repeated again, nearly growling. He wanted to grow his own fuzz, thank you very much! A big bite was taken from the sandwich in an almost indignant manner.

Yes, she very much had a feeling he liked hats, since it was also a rare time she ever saw him without one on. As Mac seemed agreeable to giving her one though, the ghoul looked like Christmastival came early. She leaned towards the Psychopomp, and her eyes actually lit up a bit in excitement. “Really!?” She echoed. “I would love that so much!” The reaper cried, elated. She had seen Mac’s last hat too…it was pretty awesome.
The ghoul wiggled in her spot, now picking up her sandwich and biting into it as she hummed. Apparently just giving her an old hat put her in a fantastic mood, that even Mac’s re-statement of a threat didn’t deter. The wingless valkyrie was also getting a bit of her creep on and non so subtly glancing at Mac as he finally started to eat. Hel was silent for a moment, eating her sandwich. “…Ah, why are you not single?” She piped up after a moment with a bit of a grin. “Everything would be so much easier! Ah…or if I could clone you instead….” She tapped her chin for a moment and then took another bite of her food.

Hel leaned in, and Mac caught himself leaning away. No, no he wasn't going to do that; that was weird. He didn't want to act weird around Hel. He wanted everything to go back to the way it was before that night in his Aunt's house. A stable friendship, nothing more. "Then it's yours, when I remember to give it to you." The last part was an afterthought, dragging with it a small laugh.
Her question nearly made him choke on his food.
"Wh-what?!" He gasped out after he found his vocal cords again. It took a few hits to his chest with a fist, but it eventually happened. "Where the jack did that come from? ...Also the world can't handle two of me but seriously Hel, what the jack?!"

If she was bothered by the fact that he was leaning away from her, she didn’t show it at the time. Hel made a face at his words. “… Uh…Mac, that does not sound very promising…what if you forget?” The ghoul started a bit as Mac was suddenly sent into a coughing fit from choking on his food, and she thought she’d help by patting his back a bit, laughing as well. “ Well…one of the things that I really like about you is that you love to eat!” She grinned a bit. “ Do you know how refreshing that is? Especially when I love to cook?” She didn’t have to say who, exactly…but Mac was one of her few friends who loved eating, and that was, to Hel, a very appealing trait. She snorted with amusement, and seemed to recall something as she was suddenly digging out her phone. “ Oh, oh! You need to see what I did to Shun the other day…” She pulled out her phone and fiddled with it, going to her pictures and pulling up the last one she took. “ Look.”

"You'll remind me, that's all." Overall, he didn't seem to incredibly worried about it, and why should he? Hel was annoying in the most endearing way, and if she wanted something and he promised it to her, she'd likely be on him until he followed through. In the end, she'd get what she wanted, because he promised he'd give it.
"I need the extra FEAR, I do a lot of work!" Food wasn't a necessity in Halloween, but with all of the fear he spent rowing and working on various projects, he needed the supplement. Thus, food, to him, was the best. "You can keep doing it, if you want. Lizzy tries, but...most of it ends up burned. Getting better though." Burnt pancakes were actually starting to taste good to him. The whole conversation of his being single and cloning him was forgotten as Hel showed him a very, very interesting picture.
"...Pfff...." He snorted, choking again on his food and barely managing to swallow it before he burst into hysterical laughter. "Hel, you have to send me that!" Mac managed to get out between howls of laughter. Shun? In a full beard? Amazing.

“That I will!” Hel chirped. It’d be easy to do since he lived across from her more or less…and she had a feel she knew where she could find him if he wasn’t in his room. “Ah…ya…got ya.” Hel’s gaze shifted back over to his boat nearby. Mac was really into this…hobby? Passion? What was it exactly? Did it tie into anything he wanted to do in the future? “…Huh? Oh! YA! REALLY!?” Hel exclaimed loudly, snapping her attention back to the Psychopomp. “Okay! I would love to share the food I make with you!” Done deal.
Then Mac erupted into howling laughter, and Hel grinned, pleased to know she had made him laugh, and then paused as he asked her to send it. Okay. She actually thought about this. If Shun found out she had shared this…he would no doubt slit her throat. No doubt. That was only if he found out though…and she did trust Mac…Oh tough. She wanted to please Mac…but she didn’t want Shun to be displeased with her….uuuugh. The grin fell from Hel’s face as she fought the internal battle.
“….Err…okay. I will send it to you…but—“ Hel now leveled a serious look at the boil and poked him in the chest. “You can not share that OR tell Shun I gave it to you! Got it!? He will slit my throat if he found out.” Hel fiddled with her phone, and sent the picture to Mac’s phone before she tucked her phone away. The ghoul nibbled on her sandwich, her attention sliding back to his boat.
“…Oh…I wanted to ask you this for a while…do you know what career you want to pursue after Amity…?”
